I'm not Canadian but I love Canada. Awesome people, awesome country. I'm 100% on your side. Trudeau rocks - he's smart, intelligent and honest. Please keep him as PM. Come to Europe, come to Australia & NZ. We love you guys, The tariffs are outrageous and disgusting and total kudos for standing up to the bully.

Canada responding puts Canada in a worse position. \n Canada not helping in the fight against fentanyl is obviously false, that being said the mass Immigration policy of Justen trued has made it easy for cartels' to smuggle in narcotics, not only that but the immigrants cause waves of crime, rippling from generation to generation. which hurts Canadians quite a bit. Immigration from the US to Canada would not hurt Canadians as much as from all the third world countries that they currently have their immigration system setup to accept. \nCanada's official statistics for narcotics coming in cannot be trusted. there is the fact that when someone is caught with narcotics they don't actually get to bring in those drugs. \nCanada's border is also entirely bypassed by plane so it doesn't matter how strong they make their borders.\nthe best response to the tariffs would be to remove all those god awful restrictions put in place on Canadian enterprise.

Trudeau and Carney ate the Trump of the left.... don't believe one word coming out of this guys mouth. He's been putting tariffs on his own citizens for almost a decade in the form of a Carbon Tax. And it's set to go up again soon. Fuck Trudeau. They've. prorogued government during the time we need them the most to avoid a vote of none confidence because they're cowards making back room deals to benefit them and not Canadians. I'm sorry our Canadian's fellows, this is not personal, it's just business. All this year the USA economy has been decreased because we buy (importing) more goods than selling (exporting). We are no in good shape economically to support other countries' economies. We need companies to come back to produce in the USA and those extra charges are an incentive to start producing again in the USA. After our economy is better, we can make new deals. \nAbout Fentanyl, it is funny that he said that it was all good and after that, saying just in the last months implemented all kinds of security measures. LOL \nHe speaks nice, but he is not a smart guy. Putting tariffs back to the USA makes it worse with Donald Trump. Donald Trump is a businessman, he can keep increasing the taxes and in the end, Canada will be hurt more than the USA. I suggest to peacefully open a negotiation with Trump, not to fight back at the same level... don't take it personally, it is just business.

I'm a Canadian. I am trying to wrap my head around why a President would start a trade war by imposing tariffs that hurt their allies and hurt his own people..!? I am not an economist nor an investor; However I found it interesting that the immediate result of this as they corresponded about this news is how the markets are taking a major dive. If I wanted to make money off the stock market and had no morals and had the power to cause it to crash, I would make sure it crashed hard by imposing tariffs. Then I would invest as many billions in the key stocks that will come back, and watch my billions turn into 10's or 100's of billions...\nThe other possible explanation could simply be that he wants all the critical minerals from Canada, Greenland, Ukraine for nothing. Taking those minerals for free and selling electric cars, miliatary equipment, etc. would be most profitable!\nBut greed seems to know no bounds for those who are wealthy, as long as it's at their gain and not at their expense!

Hey Canada/Trudeau if you don’t want the tariffs from President Trump then remove your limiting factors on American goods to equal the playing field! Maybe these tariffs and our President may finally get you to allow into Canada as much as we do into the USA! Trying to play a game of tariff against President Trump will not do Canadians any good. This is part of the reason you won’t be the tyrant dictator you once enjoyed being. Not to mention the Canadian government should be doing a lot better on stopping the cartels and their POS fentanyl from coming into their country as well as across into the US!

I support Trump and I support MAGA. However a president needs to keep his word and Trump appears to have broken his word here. He asked Canada to reign in illegal immigration to the US and Canada complied. He said do something about fetanyl and Canada did. Trump said the tariff's were because Canada was not acting on these but now they have and we imposed the tariff's anyway. We look like liars and cheats. \nEven with Mexico we threatened tariffs if they didn't help with crackdown on illegal immigration, fetanyl, and drug cartels. Mexico complied and is also helping us. And we still slapped tariffs on them. We lied to Mexico too. \nAnd now we want everyone to trust us to negotiate a peaceful end to the Ukraine war with Trump threatening more sanctions on China and the EU. What the heck should they trust us and believe us after what we just did. \nWhen it comes to defining your character your willingness to keep your word overrules absolutely everything else. Our president gave his word that if these countries took certain actions there would be no tariffs. They did and now he slapped them both in the face with sanctions anyway. He broke his word. This is a dishonorable action. I hope it does not escalate from there. \nIf it was about promoting or building domestic industries, I think the Canadians could have helped us with that but now.... good luck now that bridge has been burned.

What's it about? It's about money. It's about a gangster family in the Whitehouse, and oligarchs in the administration, all trying to make as much money as possible. There's no other explanation possible. That's the only explanation that comes close to making any sense. Now more than ever, even if these tariffs are short-lived, Canada needs to move away from U.S. trade. This is necessary for the long term survival and prosperity of Canada. We need to make every effort to increase trade with the pacific rim, Europe and South America. There may be some short-term pain, but it has to happen. Given the events of the last few years in the U.S., Canadians have to realize that things can get even worse, and will likely never be the same. There is very little reason to believe that the ties Canada has had with the U.S. will ever be what they were, or indeed any reason to believe that that is even desirable now.

Canada's Tariff applied to the United States will cause some price inflation, price increase, for a short time until the United states establish compaines to produce the same good and services that were tariffed. Once goods and service producted by the United States exceeds the Canadian goods and services that were tarriffed, the prices will come down. President Donald Trump did this to grow United States and Employment and cause price deflation over the long term. Hopefully Canada has the resources to do the same. I hope every body is blessed through Jesus Christ's name. Amen.

As a Canadian I am shocked that very few Americans seem to care at what Trump is doing to their country. It's not the tariffs on all of the US's former allies but that he has dumped its allies to appease Trumps good friend Putin. I am looking at dismay watching the US go from being the leader of the free world to just another dictatorship run by billionaires, America is Russia. Something I don't understand. If tariffs on goods coming into the US hurt US citizens. Wouldn't a tariff on things coming into Canada hurt Canadians? How does this help you? What harm does it bring to the president?

I heard a person on the Jake Tapper, C NN, this afternoon say all the companies are coming to the USA not Canada, he didn't mention that they come because they don't have to pay a lot of taxes. Us Canadians take great offense that the spawn of the devil wants to annex our country and he refers to our Prime Minister as governor. Canadian here. Wake up Canadians. Many people are praising Trudeau for this speech. Don't. He is out as Liberal leader within the week. He doesn't have to follow through on anything he said. Plus, he just stated that he's smart enough to suggest that Trump just put a 25% tax on Canadian goods for Americans but he also thinks that you are dumb enough not to realize that he just put a 25% tax on Canadians for American goods. Trudeau basically created the situation for these tariffs (open border to let anyone come here). He loves this as he gets to take the apparent moral high ground for the first time in his life and wants this speech to be the way he is remembered rather than years of failing Canada. Forget about the last 9 years and vote Liberal if you are a fool.

Canada has known for decades that we have put too many eggs in one basket - selling our resources primarily to the USA. We've had tariffs before and worked with them. Yet we still keep selling to the USA. This time is different. In conjunction with the tariffs, we have an American administration that is flat out insulting Canada. Saying we wouldn't exist economically if it wasn't for the USA. It's at a time when the USA won't promise not to use military force to annex land (Greenland) from a decades old ally. A time when clearly Putin is calling in his chips for whatever he has over Donald Trump. Canadians have had enough. We are directing our governments, provincial and federal, to finally, finally break from the north-south trade links. We need to establish stronger east-west trade links. The resources we have are wanted by many countries if the USA does not want them. It does mean much work within Canada. We need to get our AB-BC pipeline finished as well as the new sea terminal so we can ship our crude oil and natural gas to Japan and if need be, to China. We finally need to get out pipeline to the Atlantic coast finished so we can supply the UK and EU with our products. We need to double our rail capacity for shipping potash, uranium, rare minerals to Asia or Europe. Just as Trump hopes for a golden age of American companies coming home and building new plants in the USA, this will be a golden decade for Canada to create transportation corridors to get our resources to other buyers. America will have to look elsewhere for his raw materials. And we all know what that is - RUSSIA. They've already offered their rare minerals and crude oil. This is all clearly a well thought out scenario from the people working behind Trump to dismiss America's allies and trading partners - have us turn against the USA - as the excuse to open the door to Russian imports into the USA.

Can you Canadians maybe ask your King to have his other countries put tariffs on us down here in the US? Most all the overseas US mfg might come home to moma. \nI would advise Trump to selectively wave tariffs on some items like lumber from Canada and food from mexico. As for oil from Canada I think Trump will let Chevron develop and buy heavy oil from Venezuela. If not might have to wave/reduce tariffs on Canadian diluted bitumen oil.

Canada should immediately order total blockade the border and reject all goods coming to Canada from USA and ask all Canadian not going to USA from now until further notice to force Trump Tariff to crack down! At the same time call each province to mobilize to prepare for actual war to star conscription because Trump may invade Canada like Hitler had done in Europe before! He is actually mad in mind now!

How does this make sense? Trump being the stupid ass he has always been, put tariffs on imported goods from Canada causing US citizens to pay more for goods from Canada. So PM Trudeau sets tariffs on goods coming in from the US causing CAnidian citizens to pay more for goods imported from the US.\nHaving said that, I do see that PM Trudeau will be causing Canadian citizens to stop buying imported US products, slapping Trump in the face and causing hardship to US manufacturers. 1/2: Myself and the saner half of the US that read, understood, and voted against Proj 2025 understands why they need to levy retaliatory tariffs especially as a Michigander who's lived less than 4 hours from Canada all her life, who has family in Quebec and Ontario, and is a job-seeking policy professional and international trade nerd who now cannot in good faith seek a job in the federal government. We have been looking and still do look to Canada as a model quite a bit and love Canada and Canadians to pieces. We Michiganders especially in the central and eastern UP and Detroit and Ann Arbor area are friends, coworkers, and family of Canadians. Some are even dual citizens. It is sad that it's come to this. \n\n2/2: I still personally just can't wrap my head around how a trade deal Trump put together himself and called the best (the USMCA in question) is all of a sudden so bad. Logic doesn't work with these types of people... I really want **someone!!** to ask him/ admin officials about the USMCA **to their face** and see what they say because I am so upset by this nonsensical and corrupt administration.

Maybe he should discuss the constant duty fees and border crossing fees for anything shipped from Canada to the USA that have been constantly rising for years; fees that his very own government sets. Maybe he should talk about Canada demanding that anyone that sells anything foodwise to anyone in Canada from the USA has to have a special Safe Food For Canadians Food License or the goods being shipped will be rejected at the US owners cost, seized by the border and held in storage at the US owners cost, and destroyed and billed to the US owner. A license that no one actually needs considering other legal and ethical controls are in place to prevent unsafe foods from crossing the border, but Canada reserves the right to make us pay for one or we suffer consequences. Maybe he should discuss how they left their borders open to migrants, making it much easier for criminal migrants to get into the US. Maybe he should understand that the US has always been bleeding money to Canada on a trade level for about half a century with it getting much worse in the last decade because Canada's government are greedy. Before any of you come at me, keep in mind I work in the food ingredient industry as an order processing, logistics and customs & border crossing and have done so for 15 years. These tariffs were a long time coming and if any of you are on the inside of trade in the manner I am, then you know what I'm saying is true. The US is constantly paying additional tariffs by way of duty fees, customs fees, certain applied taxes (like there is literally a blueberry tax to ship US grown blueberries into Canada to prevent US blueberries from taking over the Canadian blueberry market). The blueberry tax is about 25cents per lb. which drives the price per lb. up for the seller and buyer. You wanna know why Food costs so much? All of the above with a huge side helping of GREED.

While I don’t agree with Trumps tariffs, I understand why he’s doing them. As a Canadian citizen, please don’t glamorize Trudeau- hes a spoiled rotten brat of a former PM. Nothing more. We asked for Canada to control the border, they did not. The tariff came after this request was denied. Canadians should be concerned about dangerous people coming through their country to get to the US. I hope your government shows more concern for your welfare as our president does for ours!???

I'm usually reasonable enough to realize that while I may disagree with many policy decisions, there's usually a relatively coherent line of thought to back said actions up. The problem here is that there’s no clear logic behind using tariffs as a tool to curb fentanyl trafficking or immigration. I'm not going to speak on the issue of immigration at the Canadian border because there simply is none. Yes, there are illegals from Canada, but almost 100% of them are from overstaying visas rather than crossing the border unlawfully. So let's talk about fentanyl. \n\nMost fentanyl in the US originates from China, often in precursor form, and is then processed in Mexico before being smuggled into the states. But it's typically trafficked in small, high potency quantities, often hidden in legitimate shipments or through mail, and only on very rare occasions is it being brought in by individuals crossing the border. It has _never_ been documented to have shipped in as part of large scale commercial imports, so a 25% tariff on legal trade with Canada and Mexico doesn’t directly target the black market supply chain at all.\n\nIf we take Trump’s reasoning at face value, the argument seems to be that he wants to exert economic pressure on Mexico and Canada as a means of having them crack down harder on drug trafficking networks. But the issue is that fentanyl simply isn’t coming in through mass import channels, so all this looks like is a punitive measure without a clear mechanism to actually achieve its stated goal. And the implications? Drastically higher costs for consumers in the US, Canada, and Mexico, with absolutely nothing to show for it.

Most Americans despise what Europe has turned into….a woke, globalist cesspool controlled by people like Soros and institutions like the WHO, WEF, ICC, and NATO. Their ultimate goal is for people to have zero national identity and to not be able to live without a welfare state. \n\nSome Canadian was crying online about tariffs saying good luck on your own against China. Canada has the winning hand. Canada has resources that USA needs to survive. USA has nothing to offer to Canada to survive. If Canada should cut energy to USA, let’s see who is the boss. For say, Canada is the biggest producer for potash, a fertilizer needed for the American fields. Canada will suffer from these tariffs but USA will cash down harder. Hell will come down on USA unfortunately hurting our American friends and relatives south of Canadian border.

Trudeau doesn’t even have to announce tariffs on American good, we the people of Canada are boycotting American good. And we might no just be do this for the next 4 years but for generations of Canadians to come. Go scream at Trump and Vance not us, you did this when you voted for Trump.

Why does he continue to provoke the US president? He resigned and rather step down with dignity, he chooses cause as much damage before he leaves. Justin Trudeau bears full responsibility for the burdens Canadians now face. He imposed and continually increased the carbon tax, draining the pockets of hardworking citizens while offering little in return. He neglected Canada’s NATO commitments, failing to uphold our obligations on the world stage. His tenure has been marred by repeated ethical scandals, each one a testament to his disregard for integrity in leadership. \n\nNow, as the weight of his missteps comes full circle, he faces the consequences of his own policies. The economic strain he placed on his own people is now mirrored in the tariffs and pressures from the United States—a reckoning of his own making. And even in his resignation, rather than stepping aside with dignity, he continues to provoke President Trump with baseless rhetoric, further endangering Canada’s relationship with its greatest ally. \n\nTrudeau’s legacy will not be one of progress, but of division, economic hardship, and lost opportunities. And now, he reaps what he has sown.

We Canadians are suckers if we're giving billions more to Ukraine. Trudeau needs to go now. As for the tariff, I think we need to strike back hard, and continue the boycott of US goods. If we could, would be great do cut off all energy going to the States, but thanks to Trudeau, we don't have cross country pipelines to do that. BTW, Canada is not responsible for what comes into your country, we're responsible to keep things out we don't want in. That's the way these things are supposed to work, we're not East Berlin.

The reason real estate prices have gone 300% but incomes only 100% is because of low interest rates. If you factor in carrying costs, the numbers aren't as extreme. The challenge now is that interest rates have increased to stave off inflation generated primarily during the covid years. While this has somewhat abated, real estate carrying costs remain elevated and price growth has stagnated, while the Canadian dollar has fallen, effectively resulting in reduced housing valuations (in US dollar terms). Can we ride this out until incomes catch up? Will productivity increases promised by leading political challengers (election coming this year) move the needle? Are tariffs and 51st state rhetoric just a negotiating tactic and bluster, or something real? Nobody knows, but we will find out..

What a crock of crap! The USA has the problem of weak borders, so they need to step up their border patrol. Canada is securing their borders because of the frequent and much more abundant cases of drugs and guns being smuggled into Canada! The stepped up Canadian border enforcement was already well underway months before Trump made his tariff threats. \nThink about it, the 43lbs of fentanyl that was smuggled in from Canada, at the US border, is a drop in the bucket in comparison to the flow of it that comes in through the ports. Also think about when you cross a border, it’s the country you are crossing into that checks you out. Classic case of Trump blaming others for US failure.
