At this point it would be smart for Canada (as well as Mexico) to enter a defence/arms deal with China and make China a strategic ally. Possibly extend the same deal to Russia. US under Trump is effectively an unreliable ally, doubling down on catastrophic mistake/decisions instead of making swift amends.

Some persons were just talking about their sentiments on their personal point of view but looking at US point of view, know that the US trade deficit (Deficit exists where US import from another nation to US exceeds US export to that nation from US) with Canada exceeded 58 billion dollars in 2024; with Mexico is more than 170 billion dollars in 2024; and with China is more than 295 billions dollars in 2024. These tariffs are not about policy differences. They appear to be personal. Trump is settling scores. All Trump has been asking for all along is for Canada & Mexico to DO THEIR PART in stemming the illegal immigration and Fentanyl from crossing into the United States. Nearly 100,000 Americans die each year from Fentanyl overdoses. The raw ingredients come from China and into their respective nations, where they are processed and made into Fentanyl, then brought into the U.S. Neither nation has taken Trump seriously and Biden didn't give a crap and actually assisted with bringing in more of everything. Remember, it's not just Canada that is responding to Trump. Mexico and China are also responding simultaneously to Trump's idiotic tariffs. Mexico, Canada, and China are America's biggest suppliers of materials crucial to the American economy and are huge markets for American goods. If Trump thinks he can fight all of these countries at once and not have America receive grievous damage, then he is more deluded than we thought.
