Why is it so difficult to have reasonable conversations about this? Most of this video is completely true — but so many comments show love to that bike guy who was factually incorrect and pointlessly racist. But on the other hand, so many woke types don’t even want to admit the problem. They also don’t want to talk about how the government is complicit. Every nation has a right to define itself, and how much immigration it wants, and how that immigration happens. It is beyond ridiculous to not speak the primary language of the country you emigrate to. But why say weird shit like indians eat shit?? Or that 1.5 billion people are all the same? The rationale behind early immigration was to be very tough and selective about who enters and lives here. They welcomed students because it brought in a lot of revenue so that’s a win-win, but to LIVE they had to prove they were an asset to the community. Now the whole thing is manipulated. You don’t have proper vetting for the students because of fake colleges that just want to make money. You don’t have proper limits on immigration and criteria for jobs/skills because companies want to make money. Politicians just do whatever strategy gets votes. But for some reason people either only get woke about the positives of Indian immigrants or only negative, sometimes racist about them. It’s fair to acknowledge that rampant, unchecked immigration ruins the culture. Like Indian driving culture is fucking terrible. You don’t want to bring that shit over. You can also acknowledge that early immigrants and their kids are often completely American/Canadian, from their native language, accents, education, references etc. And that Indians are generally a low-crime, high-employment, high-tax-paying immigrant group. And we ALSO acknowledge that that’s changing because of the type/number of people coming in, and the financial and political incentives which support it. It causes valid resentment. These fucking human smuggling rings are real af. Wokies don’t ever talk about it. But I wish we could have this conversation without the racism.

I live in Brampton born and raised. Indians are generally nice people but this new generation of immigrants that came around covid time were different. Working at places like Walmart now feels like a job not meant for us Canadians. Entire work place blasting Punjabi music and speaking in another language. Imagine feeling foreign in your own country while trying to work.

As a Canada who speaks both French and English and who follows politics quite closely, I have to say that the headline and some of the reporting here is quite misleading. A reduction in immigration has broad support across Canada. I wouldn't say that notion is dividing the country in any significant way. You do have certain industry groups that disagree, but among the population these reductions have broad support. This is a historic change in public opinion in Canada, but it has been driven by the unprecedented increase in immigration under the last term of the Trudeau government. To put this in context, non-permanent residents in Canada numbered around 1.5 million on Q3 2023, but by Q3 2025, that number sat a just over 3 million. The previous government increased immigration targets by 3 or 4 times over what they had been for years, which caused a number of economic issues. Essentially, the volume was simply too high for the economy and society to support. This was unfair to both Canadians and new comers, many of which could not find employment or afford a decent place to live. The changes being suggested are largely bringing Canada back to what the targets were for over a decade before, though a bit lower to account for the sudden surge. Canada remains one of the most pro-immigration countries in the world. However, and this is where I think DW's reporting is misleading, there is a distinction to be made between policies at the federal level and policies at the provincial level. Immigration, per our constitution, is a federal matter, however, Quebec in particular is distinct from other provinces. I don't mean only culturally and linguistically, but also in the powers that have been devolved to it by the federal government. On the question of immigration, Quebec has more powers and more ability to set its immigration targets and programs than any of the other 9 provinces. The particular program discussed here, the Quebec Experience Program (PEQ), is a particular immigration stream that only existed in Quebec. So what is happening with that program cannot be labeled as a whole-of-Canada thing. Where the changes to the PEQ are controversial, unlike the general changes at the federal level, is that people who immigrated under that specific program were promised certain things. There was a multi-year time line to Permanent Residency and then Citizenship. Many of those people have been in Quebec for 5-8 years already. However, the changes made to the program were done in such a way where people who many years into the program, had gotten an education, started a career, had children, ect. are now being told they can't continue and must leave Canada. There are even stories of people who married Canadians, now have children, and the one parent who was under this program now faces the possibility of having to leave Canada and be separated from their family. All through no fault of their own. That is what many people see as unfair, and I agree, however limiting future applications under the program, to bring in less people, that is not controversial. Canada has no responsibility to bring in people who are not already in Canada, but Canada does have some responsibility towards people who uprooted their lives to move to Canada and built new lives here based on promises and representations made to them by the Canadian and Quebecois governments. We should no simply kick those people out of the country.

I’m grew up in Brampton, born here to immigrant parents who came in the 90s. The new generation of immigrants have really created a bad image for Indians here, I will encounter all kinds of racism online or in real life, and the hatred is real. I wish it wasn’t so, but Brampton and for that matter the GTA is not equipped to handle these many people. It’s a problem here in Canada. They aren’t heading to the USA basically all of them stay cause it’s just easy. Nobody would have a problem if they made an effort to assimilate and some do but the ones who don’t ruin the image for the rest of them. Other obvious problem is we’ve let in too many people in in general like more people have come than living units have been built making many problems just right there and then and it’s not really the people who immigrates fault it’s the government. I know restricting imagination and making the test to get in harder so they actually have to know something about Canadas history and our culture and realistically we need to apply more pressure on the expectation that immigrants eventually assimilate.

I'm glad Tyler is more or less neutral in his findings. It's true, many Indian's have come to Canada and I'm sure many do wish for a better life. Canadians understand this, but the methods the government of Canada is doing to push the numbers too high and too quickly is what's surprising to many. It's the accountability of the government that should be under scrutiny. If immigration was moderate and consistent, the social issues would not be as rampant, but social media loves stir the pot. This is also happening while Canada's housing infrastructure is crumbling, healthcare is deteriorating and general cost of living in Canada has skyrocketed and priced many Canadians out of simple living and enjoyment. I live in the UK and there’s a lot of Indians over here. Indians are generally good people some might have issues but hey no one ain't perfect. Now the issue is I prefer migrants to assimilate e.g. I am a japanese migrant in canada so I decided to do things to be canadian speak English, Go skiing and live like everyone else Not building my own japan town or whatever. I've lived in Surrey BC for most of my life, I'm an avid outdoors enthusiast and like most Canadians respect and admire nature's beauty. Years ago they built a pond on an undeveloped lot next to my neighborhood. It was a beautiful addition to the town as it allowed wildlife a place to find shelter, while giving us a little nature loop within walking distance. On multiple occasions I have caught people dumping literal truckloads of their households' trash into this small forest on a backroad I frequent. When confronted they laugh it off, and generally don't appear to see that what they're doing is wrong. The pond itself is also filled with crap, despite the posted signs informing of the harm this causes the ecosystem. From my (and most people who live here) experience it is overwhelmingly a single demographic that is responsible for the uncleanness in our shared spaces. Any BC resident can tell you about the access to beautiful nature we are privileged to, and I hate more than anything to see it being desecrated in the way I have. Most people will not speak up about this.

After finishing the video you asked why, and still didn't have an answer. This is lazy of you. It is very easy to find the answer. The answer is economics, specifically capitalism and the welfare state. In order for capitalism to function the best for asset owners, the economy must continue to grow. Company revenues, stock prices, home prices, assets in general. Also, the welfare state needs to have more younger workers paying into the system to cover welfare services for the elderly retired population. Back in the 1950s, economists in Western countries realized their population demographics were inverting. Meaning, the elderly population was growing while the younger population growth rate was slowing down. This is the natural outcome of a wealthy educated society—the elderly live longer due to better healthcare and living conditions, and women tend to have fewer children as they spend more time in school and pursue a career, also families need fewer children compared to poor agrarian societies for various reasons. As such, these economists advised the politicians to increase immigration. This was the way to get more workers in your country to prevent a slow deflationary spiral by increasing consumption, and increase the tax base. Bonus if you bring in STEM workers as economies are becoming more dependent on tech. Anyway that's your answer.

I worked with a lot of refugees and asylum seekers. They are generally allowed to work hwhilst waiting on their claim to be processed. My experience was they are very hard working, smart and ambitious. Not settling for just collecting welfare or hwhat-not. They are net contributors to Canadian society. Fortunately, the ones I knew had their claims approved. But hwhat if they didn't? hWhat if they lied/exaggerated about the persecution back home. They're still productive members of society. hWhy send em back? Better yet: Don't make em lie in the first place! Let them live and work here indefinitely just because they want to.

The problem is not the immigrants. The problem is with Canadian leaders, and the Canadians who elected and reelected them to office. I lived in Nova Scotia for just over 2 decades. I attempted to have many discussions about these issues and was shocked by the generally vapid responses I'd get. Much more to say, but the main point is that Canadians have destroyed their own country's quality of life and from what I can see, Canada is not worthy of respect as a nation. I take ZERO pleasure in saying this. However, the country should have provided the United States with a up close example of what a well run social democratic nation looks like. Instead, Canada is a joke to the far right and in fact fuels the far right in the US. Now with the global south amassing on the US's northern border (visit Halifax, NS if you have any questions about this), I view Canada as a threat to the USA - which is a nation with more than enough problems. Personally as an Indian, I really feel bad about it. Unfortunately, we DO go to other countries for a chance at better life and dignity, but a lot us Indians then start to feel privileged and entitled and do not adapt to the culture of the country they are in, and force their own cultures and individual beliefs. This sucks, especially as a young guy who dreams of living in other countries, while respecting their cultures and planning to adapt to them. Even in India too, we don't really pay much taxes since we know its gonna go into corruption anyway, so the Immigrant residents in Brampton may have carried forward that practice as their habit. Canada needs to step back and reassess the plan for immigration and refugees. Housing, jobs, healthcare, education, cost of living, and in general all resources are already strained. We need to prioritize the application for citizenship of trained and educated workers that are needed and will benefit our economy.

I am an Indian immigrant living on GTA. If I was forced to live in Brampton, I would rather go back to India than live in Brampton. The problem with Brampton is a subset of Indians that are easily recognizable and do not assimilate. Most of these specific subset come here as students and through family sponsorship ( not regular immigration stream). The students get false documents for their language and educational credentials. The politicians are also to blame for pondering for their votes. If there is one ethnic group that has the capacity to destroy Canada further in the future to a point of no return, it is this subset. Unfortunately most Canadians do not know this, and Indians as a general group are seen as the problem. Next time just ask them where in India these people are from, and soon you will know for yourself.

I live in this general area and have recently retired. True, this area doesn't look like the area did, when I was a kid and since I worked in the technical field, I was in a real minority. So I've worked with many people of color and don't have a problem with that, or the religion, or culture they come from. That said, they are individuals and have faults like everyone else. Pure racism - that Portuguese guy is pretty much the same as Indian folks: non white, came in as immigrant, maintains his culture. This is not the immigration problem - this is economy. I understand the culture clash; I lived in Abbotsford, BC, moving there in 2005 and staying for nearly 10 years, and the Sikh/Indian population was very prevalent there. They had a reputation of not "joining in" until the third generation and a bad habit of only dealing with other Indians, not even bothering to try and learn English, and being a bit of a nuisance in the SevenOaks Mall. I have memories of them complaining when the employees didn't know any Punjabi, trying to haggle prices in the stores (sometimes aggressively), and harassing female staff. By the third generation they generally had adopted fully into Canadian culture and, oddly enough, the most violent clashes were between first generation and third generation Indians because the first generation was "behaving badly".

Im a Canadian and honestly I've NEVER had a problem finding a job, I don't even have my highschool... I think it has to do with *which* jobs they are applying for. I get that theres an "immigration" problem, the refusal to adapt and assimilate feels like a slap in the face especially when the same few will talk I'll of the same system they benefit from. Are the ones saying they can't find work willing to work in trades? General laborers making $25-$30+++ No experience required. Tradespeople are glad to teach people willing to work hard and learn.. What about warehouse work? Apply to your 5 closest warehouses, I guarantee youll get in 1.. ALSO the government IS willing to help Canadians get little certifications like forklift, smartserve, CPR.. Career colleges can help with training (e.g - computer) as well as soft skills. Culture is a tricky thing. Is it not a known fact that one may not be all that interested in their culture and religion in their country of origin, but once immigrated to a different land, these same people become more attached to their original culture and religion, even more orthodox in their beliefs. They try to recreate what is familar. Why are we surprised most are not assimilating? It takes, for most, many generations. And even then. Immigrants will always, in one way or another affect change in the general culture. Think of different cuisine, the arts, influences on our beliefs, etc. What is a Canadian anyways? One who lives here? Who pays taxes here? How long of roots do you need to have before you are no longer called an immigrant? We have a very large country and from one community to another there is a difference in the culture. Perhaps we need to be clearer on what is in fact our highest Canadian values and communicate them more effectively. I would also like to add that there is suffering in not being able to pass on your culture. Watching your children and grandchildren speaking a different language, not having them understand yours enough for you to enjoy signing traditional songs to, not being able to guide them in your religious beliefs, etc., in the name of them becoming assimilated. I am experiencing these and my roots go back over 400 years on this land.

We have maintained a high level standard of living, when by all rights we should not have it. Many want to blame government, but one part of the problem is an over reliance as an exporter of raw natural resources and a reliance on generally a single market (USA) for our goods. Interestingly enough the problems have been reinforced by governments of every type. What annoys me most is that these issues have been known for a long time, and the various governments have been scared to do anything about it. And they never took Sir Donald's words seriously - either about the tarriffs or statehood. I have heard zero from any level of government looking for new markets for our goods, yet they have had since November to do something. Going to be a stressful ride for many of us. I am recently retired and wonder if I should be worred.

Lived in Canada for almost 40 years. Worked in USA for 5 years 25 years ago. I did make a lot more money in USA then, luckily, I was in my 20s and almost never seen a doctor in my 5 years in the USA. \nThank God I didn't get into any accident while there. \n\nIn general, I observed many people in the USA are not good neighbors. Simple observation, ex you drive and merge into a lane in a busy SF Bay Highway you need to fight hard to get into a lane. In BC, Canada, merging lanes is very orderly, each vehicle takes turn merging into a lane one entering from one lane and then another vehicle from another lane with respect and consideration. \nIn the USA, I think it is this brutal mentality translates into policy in health care and education, you are not responsible to help your community in any way and take while you can for yourself.

The more you rely on the others for visas, the more likely they are to refuse you.
