Hey! Im a sikh that was born in canada, with my parents, grand father, great grand father also being in this beutiful country. I wanted to start of by saying a couple of things. My home was in brampton for a long time and I have personally seen the safety gone down, my family used to come back from trips with our garage open and everything would be completely fine. The long term sikhs and indians came and actually contributing positively and that can be seen with how good canada was pre 2020. Immigration too an extent was good, but mass immigration was never a good idea. In 2018-2019 the old time punjabi community was heavily against so many students coming in, so much so people that were indian had "no students" signs when renting their basements. It's sad to see people that came here running things so badly and ruining the effort and contributions made by many(I even face the consqeunces of things I have never done). Remeber don't be afraid to call out people for their bullshit, but also dont bash innocent people. Now many ppl came to canada and have done good like sikhs having the highest donors of blood, plasma, and platelets. We also giveway a lot in charity and food. A good news is Canada is cracking down on these bad people and quickly, and many good people who came are returning back home. It is also very hard when every single store; walmart; Fast food is all India. Other races will not be hired, so all we see are India taking over every taxi and every single job. They can tolerate having all their family live in one house, as they buy multiple homes. These homes are left empty, until enough house are bought to take over a lane or an entire neighbourhood. Thank you for summarizing these key changes! Many problems are actually the Canadian immigration system not learning from the mistakes of the US system and now it’s suffering the same consequences. If Canada cuts down on those selected immigrations but still takes in refugees, it’s only going to make anti-immigrant sentiment worse. Selected immigrants are allowed into Canada to help alleviate Canadian issues…or at least people who come through Express Entry are less likely to become a burden. On the other hand, refugees, given their unfortunate circumstances, really need to rely on a lot of social services and resources to help them resettle. The US has eliminated pretty much all non-humanitarian immigration that’s why immigrants are so demonized there. Americans only feel the drags of refugees and asylum seekers (even though ethically we need to protect them) and there is no selected immigration to balance that out. Yet this round of Canadian policy change is heading exactly that direction.\n\nIt used to be international students in Canada are not paying a lot more tuition than Canadian students. But Canadian universities saw how much money universities in the US are making so they asked the federal government to change the policy to enable them to charge international students several times the regular tuition (whereas in countries like France, international students actually pay less than citizens). So now Canadian universities rely too much on international students to operate and it becomes an exploitative relationship even before students step foot on the campus. The new PGWP eligibility is awful because students can make contributions in every field. It might (and that's a big if) address the pressing problems, but it won't help Canada grow.\n\nI thought the new language requirement was interesting. Some Canadians who immigrated decades ago when the bar was really low still speak English poorly and now they are saying people can’t come to Canada because their language skills are not sufficient. Another point about language is if you apply through Express Entry now, even if you scored the highest language score, given how competitive the pool is, you still won’t get selected. So it’s a given that you need to be fluent in one of the languages at least to get an invitation. Express Entry also selects only the top people, I saw the head of The Institute for Canadian Citizenship in interviews talking about those top-tier people only expect the best treatment/lifestyle when they come to Canada. That's why many of them leave after seeing these Canadian problems play out. But I believe a good Canadian life is not about living in a high rise in Vancouver and Toronto, driving an expensive car, or buying luxury items...it's about the communities, nature and middle-class comfort. So the system is giving PRs to the wrong kind of people (just like mismatched people when hiring that don't align with company values).\n\nThis brings me to the last frustrating issue. There were so many people who attended “fake” universities and bought “fake” jobs to earn points to get an Express Entry invitation. And it's clear that the government wasn't proactively catching these abuses. They are taking up spots from those who try to earn the points fair and square. If I understand correctly, Canada doesn’t send these people away if they are found out (since some of them were scammed). So they still take up immigration quotas.\n\nI have wanted to move to Canada for a long time. I have visited Canada many times, hiking trails through the coastline and fjords, climbing mountains and glaciers. I lived in Montreal for two months to improve my French and I was told by my homestay family that I was the first student they had who didn’t complain about the cold (I wish the winter never ends so I can skate or xc ski in the parks year-round). I have probably seen more Canada than many Canadians and I love every bit of it. But the opportunity for me to even get a shot to move there is pretty much nonexistent now. This is no longer Canada and by 2300 China and India will have carved out a 'New' Canada. Went through the pathway of studies-work-residency-citizenship\n\nLet me simplify the story for all of you guys here that lacks immigration intel. \n\n1) The quality of migrants you see here is not what Canada needs long term. It’s not a matter of ethnicity, but Canada needs to import talented and educated folks in medicine, engineering, trades etc. None of these individuals are interested in studying and are either attending 3rd grade colleges/universities to get a work permit and hoped to stay on. \n\n2) Shoddy sales tactics include lying or ‘avoiding stating the obvious’ that could make you lose the deal. This is exactly what the Canadian government did with these people. The Canadian dream was sold somewhat properly before 2017/2018 I would say. Post Covid there was a MASSIVE need of manpower in minimum wage jobs. The government could not afford increasing minimum wage at the time and international students would do exactly those jobs and bring in millions of dollars in tuition fees. The government opened the gates for these strip-mall colleges to take unprecedented numbers of students with allowances to work. These students were sold the exact same dream that a top quality University/college student is sold about Canada. They needed to be used at the time. And if they would’ve been told that their quality of students are only needed temporarily, they wouldn’t have come. The labour shortage at the time wouldn’t have been solved. So a CATCH 22 of the highest order. \n\n3) Canada CANNOT give in to such protests as it will set the worst example of migrant pandering for future generations. The best talent will refrain from entering Canada and more and more of these types of immigrants who do not want to assimilate to the Canadian culture will want to keep on coming.

Let's compare the average immigrant to the Average white Canadian in expertise, education, salary, or even IQ. You guys didn't open the borders and immigration has always been heavily selective. I’m one of those new immigrants, originally from China. I’d like to share my point of view on this subject. For immigrants, sometimes the number one reason to move to another country is the harshness of their home country. In my case, China is not a pleasant place to live - everywhere is overcrowded, housing is insanely expensive, and job opportunities are mostly concentrated on big cities. So, if a young person like myself stayed in China, my only option to make a living is to join the rat race with another million people, work 60 hours a week, all for a 2-bedroom apartment. The minimum wage in China is the equivalent of $4 Canada dollars per hour. I don’t earn the minimum wage, but this should tell you how underpaid workers are over there. I’m ok with working hard and I have worked hard my entire life, got two degrees before 25 while studying as a non-English speaker, but I can’t bear the thought of not being fairly compensated for my work. In a freer and more transparent society, at least worker’s rights are protected. I could have chosen other countries to migrate to, but Canada seemed to have the fastest processing time and highest chance of accepting at the time, so I took the opportunity. I’m sorry for the Canadians who got caught up in a poorly managed immigration system. All I am saying is, if you are in my shoes, you would rather take this chance to move here - this could be the one of a lifetime window of opportunity.

Nobody pays 4-times the tuition of a domestic student just for a degree from Blablabla college. Of course almost everyone comes for PR, because Express Entry was a stable immigration system, but now the system allows fraudulent LMIA holders to go through, and the actual skilled workers are paying the price because NOBODY can score such high score in Express Entry (current draws). The current draw cut-off scores are unrealistic.\n\nThe government allowed 90k unskilled workers to get PR through the TR to PR program (was a mistake), but now have made it difficult for the actual Federal High Skilled applicants. Canadian immigration is now so messed up, it favors the junks of the world and ignores the real skilled people. I myself have a Master's degree in Canada from a top University, have Canadian work experience, have foreign work experience, scores highest possible in IELTS, still I cannot score 529 for express entry. Conversely, a mediocre asylum seeker or fraud LMIA holder easily gets PR. Express Entry is no longer a stable system for skilled workers, it's now a lottery.\n\nBefore blaming international students for everything, you need to understand the real problem. Whether everyone is entitled to PR, NO! But, the skilled workers with excellent CRS scores (490+) should be able to stay to benefit Canada & get a good career for themselves as well. Otherwise, Canada itself will suffer from skill shortages just in a few years.

Indian here, I applied for a Canada PR and just missed the PR score cut off by a few points, I am from one of the top universities in India, have a computer science bachelors and masters in economics, I am opening my own tech startup here and would have loved to open it in Canada and drive Canada's GDP. \n\nBut you know who get the highest score for PR? Low skilled people who do fake degrees(which are so easy to get it is lame, by the way I can also do it, but it will spoil by education reputation). The immigration system of Canada is a joke, It treats all degrees, jobs and universities as equal. Best of all I was offered to pay $20k by someone to get a Canadian PR. Again I can pay that much but do I want to immigrate to a country whose citizenship is being sold this cheap?\n\nTrust me when I say it Canada is getting the most average and at times the worst people from India. Indian government though should thank Canada for taking all these low skilled people from India that send Canadian Dollars back to India. They take away the middle class jobs, housing, etc in Canada and worse for Canada send back money to India leading to pressure on Canadian currency and reserves.\n\nThe simplest solution is to halt whatever nonsense immigration policy Canada has and only allow three kinds of immigration, people who secure high paying jobs in recognised companies, entrepreneurs that get funding from investors Canadian government recognises and count university scores only from top tier universities. Finally make it super easy for these high skilled people and difficult for anyone else.

I’ve been in Canada for over 24 years and I have never seen it like this in my life!\nThe main cause of the majority of issues is the housing crisis.\n\nWhat a lot of you might not be aware of is that we have not been building homes to keep up with the demand for over two decades. That’s why the price for housing has increased astronomically. And then our government decided to basically allow unfettered immigration in order to take advantage of the new immigrants’ money so they can use it to fund the Canadian Pension Plan.\n\nJust an FYI, the way CPP is funded is that the current group of working people are paying for the current group of retired seniors. And due to the lack of childbirths and people living longer, the CPP can no longer afford to take care of all the seniors in its system. Thus, the government devised a plan to have more people coming here so as to milk the money they have. Actually, they’ve even gone to the extent to basically allow seniors to be willingly euthanized… it’s absolutely bonkers.\n\nBut anyway, I digress… so then with housing at astronomical prices, you’re now pushing out the poor people onto the streets, causing homelessness. \n\nAnd when people are homeless, the average person will do drugs to escape reality and commit crimes to survive. Which is why it’s now increasingly dangerous in public spaces. \n\nThen, the transportation also never accounted for such a massive increase in population. At least not in Toronto. Which is also causing major inconvenience to go anywhere. \n\nIt used to be that if you lived in the suburbs, you could drive into Toronto pretty quickly but now, it takes like an hour and a half to two hours, making it extremely difficult to get around. And also, hard to take advantage of the “lower” housing prices in the suburbs.\n\nBut that’s not all. Part of the issue is that the Trudeau government wants to no longer have Canada use our oil and gas overnight, which is causing the increase in gas prices. Many Canadians still rely on gas because electric cars are not efficient in Canadian weather and are simply too expensive for your average person. And yet they cut off our supply of oil and gas which causes the price inflation of transport and anything that requires to be moved such as groceries and supplies.\n\nAnd don’t get me started on how our healthcare system is falling apart… even though we pay some of the highest taxes in the world…

i am from hamilton and we are still very diverse here. yes brampton is quiet loaded with indians. i think what has failed is the requirements for immigration has dropped. i mean we use to have highly educated people come in but now the standards have dropped. so anyone with low standards can come walk in. pubjabi votes for jagmeet or trudeau and they are the group with highest crimes in india the state of punjab and there is a big drug and drinking culture that comes here. the minute our standards grow up with immigration requirements then we will get more educated bunch coming in. when we have greedy power hungry people run the country this is what happens. now people are fed up. the other day i was at freshco and some white guys started to lecture me and he openly admitted he is a racist. i pulled out my camera and started to record. he backed off but he could have done anything. he rude and stupid. i was also quiet upset. people were not like this and were more accepting. i can understand his frustration but he said openly he was racist and called me Fxxxxxxx indian etc... this is out of line. i also gave him a mouth full. i told him i have been here 35 years and his mood changed but its quiet disappointing how people react. its not safe or respectful. not sure where we are headed in canada.

You're free to judge but I have not seen any Indian/ Asian/ Latino immigrant homeless. Indians bring high skill in IT, banking and medicine which Canada desperately needs. Latino/ European ethnic immigrants also work very hard (construction/ farms etc.) and support their families and children. These basic skills keeps Canada running. Immigrant children are the highest number of graduate degree holders. Students line up in hundreds because they are willing to work and make a mark. They stand in freezing weather for hours just to try their luck. That's dedication. The only homeless I have seen are Canadians/ Native Americans even when the govt. pays millions in welfare and development programs to get their life back on track. Also, all these immigrants pay thousands of dollars to come to Canada (Visa fees, plane tickets, moving expenses) so that they can pay taxes to Canadians. Why are you crying all the time just they are not into cold pasta?

Despite healthcare system problems, the average life expectancy in Canada is one of the highest in the world. Despite the poor public transportation, Canadian society does not want to actively invest in it and give up cars. Despite the expensive education in Canada, only few immigrants will send their children to their old country to study at a university, while hundreds of thousands of students come to study in Canada every year with the desire to remain in the country by all means, and that despite the harsh climate, relatively high unemployment, not very efficient healthcare, enormously expensive housing and poor public transport. Australia is suffering the exact same problems no housing, price of everything rising, immigrants complaining. Canada's Student population doubled in 3 years and Canada went from 7th highest Foreign Student Population per capita to 2nd, so the Canadian Student housing situation worsened quickly. So the Trudeau Government put a cap on Foreign Students and offered low interest loans to Universities to immediately expand Student housing. Canada has seen NO drop in citizen applications and still refuses far more applications then it approves. So with even Canada's low birth rate still combined with immigration Canada's population is the fastest growing per capita of Western Democracies at an annual population increase of over 1 million people a year. So the Headline about Citizen applications which had nothing to do with the story of Foreign Students.\nAlso I want to add they stated that the gentleman had set up a business to bring home students from Canada when in the interview he stated that Canada was only one of the Countries but stating it the true way is less dramatic and doesnt fit their Narrative. Also the story was clipped from India a Nation that has been ata diplomatic war with Canada for a year after their Government Murdered a Canadian Landed Citizen. So their Governement put out a warning for their Citizens going their amongst other revenge moves. So the story has so many outside bias to be sensible.

Even if you are for immigration... there is another issue with this... Canada already has one of the highest rates of post secondary education in it's own population (something like 40% now) and with immigrants coming through other economic categories. It needs low-skilled workers far more than it needs university graduates due to is massively low birth rate.

This is pretty funny. I'm Canadian and my best friend is an economist working for the government on demographic issues full time. Just has an FYI canada has seen its highest immigration rate in the past 50 years last year. I can also see and feel all the immigrants moving in the job market. I'm not so sure why those videos keep being produced. This country is not perfect but it's better than many other places in the world. For example, canada is barely affected by climate change because we already have resilient infrastructure. When it comes to housing it's not so much that the governement does not allow for more building than the fact that it's hard to build affordable homes because the homes in canada require a lot of work due to the nature of the climate. (Has a trained carpenter and GC I know.) It's also very far from all of the world's chaos. All those emerging wars will affect Europe directly but all we get are some small economic backlashes. Anyhow, I've been living here for my whole 31 years of life and I've enjoyed the place and its peace. What I dislike is the cold and the lack of sun. I hope this message helps people having a fairer POV.

Last 10+ years india has risen so much and these so called first world countries have fallen down. So the gap between US/Canada and india has been narrowed down. Illegal immigration, high taxes, crime etc are on highest right now in US and Canada. That is why india is a better choice right now!

Nobody cares if new or old immigrants are leaving Canada. It doesn’t matter nor does it show the real importance to our cost of living crisis.
