Canada been mooching off the usa for decades! Maybe Canada should volunteer to drop all the tariffs they have on us if they want to be friends. Why is it ok for them to have tariffs on us but we can't have tariffs on them? Canada started this terrific war years ago and the USA NEVER DEFENDED THEMSELVES! Why do we call them our ally when all they do is take? We have a hundred billion dollar trade deficit with them already. Canada funds their imaginary socialist utopia off the backs of Americans and it's time to stop the bleeding.

Canada and Mexico should get together in trade, excluding the US. Canada and Mexico can do great things with out the US.

Pull the camera back and look at the big picture. The US has been divided sharply down the middle of the political spectrum. Canada has been crumbling under stupid political and economic decisions. This trade war is uniting the common people both American and Canadian and supportive allies around the world. Trump is using US power to threaten countries for their rare earth minerals. If Ukraine falls to Russia, Trump loses the minerals, If Europe can stave off a Ukrainian defeat, Trump loses the minerals. Canada has threatened to use its mineral wealth in the upcoming trade war and Trump loses the minerals.\nTo America's shame it has the wealth to trade for these minerals without resorting to threats and belligerence.

As a US citizen, who voted for Trump three times, i never thought id agree with Trudeau. \nThe US cannot win a trade war, the US versus the world. It's simple mathematics, and in the geopolitical realm, What Trump is doing is going to push countries away from US influence. \nI'm all for putting the US first, I'm all for cutting the federal government fat, and I'm all for making sure we the people come first, but I'm also smart enough to know that anytime the US has gone into isolationism, it's led to global conflict.

So tariffs are his plan to put back into the US coffers what will not be going in from billionaire taxes. The Red Hat Club has been stupid enough to buy the tariffs have anything to do with immigration or drugs. It's so easy for Trump to use these trigger issues to commit his crimes and then excuse it. The cult never questions if they're told it has something to do with hating immigrants. Tariffs are paid for by the US citizen. The little guys. It allows the US government to become a middleman in every transaction. Getting a cut when it has done nothing to deserve it. It is the way Russia runs things. Trump is always using the Russia Playbook of how to dismantle a democracy. It is the opposite of free trade and capitalism

Let me explain the trading relationship briefly that occurs between Canada and the US for context. \n \nCanada Has a LOT of natural resources, more than our domestic manufacturing base needs (Uranium fuel, Lumber/paper products, Steel and other metals, Fertilizer for farms...etc). Therefore we sell those raw materials to the states where they are manufactured into goods, which we then buy back. a LOT of American service companies like tech, media (And yes, even banks)...etc also operates in Canada as well. (For the auto sector the parts flip back and forth across the border like 8 times) \n \nThis relationship alone has the American economy see a large trade surplus with Canada, however there is another element to it: Energy. \n \nCanada is also home to a LARGE amount of really cheap renewable hydro power in the east, and a LOT of oil in the west, due to a lack of infrastructure we really can only sell that oil to the states and therefore it is done at a discount. America refines this cheap oil into gas and is a large part of the reason why American gas is so cheap. They use this energy to power the same factories mentioned above. (Oh and also the NE states import a lot of that clean hydro electricity for the same reasons) \n \nThe US Buys SO MUCH of that cheap energy from us to power your industrial base, that it swings the numbers on the trade balance into a small deficit for the USA. (41 billion out of a TRILLION dollars total trade, or about -4.1% of total trade so literally a pretty small deficit) It also swing back and forth every year so \n \nThen comes Trump. He wants Canada as a 51st state and own the entire continent, therefore he manufactures an excurse that our border is leaky and that migrants and fentanyl are flowing over. (In actual case migrants and the flow of Fent is about 1% the amount that's crossing at the Mexico border but he needs an excuse) \n \nHe therefore puts 25% tariffs on us. Those tariffs will hit Canada harder than the 2008 financial crisis just for scale. \n \nOh and also for the most part American Refineries literally cant process any other oil than ours or Venezuela's because its thicker so tariffs on our oil will also really increase the priced of energy in the states by a huge amount just for the LOLs. As we've seen during the post covid recovery, since gas is priced in to the supply chain at every step (Manufacturing, transportation...etc), any increase at the pump will snowball into higher costs for everything at the store, on top of the extra cost of the tariffs on consumers. (Since every step will need to add it into their markup.)

When the US starts to hurt and their power is cut (if we proceed with that), I suspect that they will take military action against us. It will cease to be a trade war and become an actual war.

Canada should shut the lights out on the US north east and turn off the oil and gas pipelines. Just a day or two. The most recent trade agreement was negotiated and signed by Trump himself and he hailed it as the best trade deal ever.

This trade war has nothing to do with fentanyl, Trump is a turncoat aka treasonous person who has been working with Russia all along and is using any and all excuses to cause people to look at anything else but him as he lines the pockets of his billionaire buddies because America gave him that when they said a president can't be charged for anything they do while serving in the White house. As an American and stock investor, I firmly believe that Canada should just ban the export of goods, services and energy products to the US and increase their trade with other countries with the condition that trade will be unbanned once the entire GOP is removed from political power in all three branches of the US. They would be removed either willingly or not within days if not hours.

As an American I look forward to this trade war with Canada. I've never respected Trudeau as a leader and I don't respect him now after a speech. So please, teach me a lesson and I hope Trump retaliates further to teach you yours. This is your time to show us how wise or how foolish you are and I'm here for that. I voted for Trump, but it's hard not to agree with Trudeau on this even though I find this guy to be extremely unpleasant. There's no reason to start trade wars all over the world and in particular with our neighbors. It's one thing to threaten tariffs and a very different thing to actually apply them. If you do it has to be accompanied by a lot of diplomacy so that the other country is not overreacting, but Trump has been super combative prompting our neighbors to respond in kind to save face. While past deals may not have been great for US, this is not the way to handle our differences. Billionaires like Trump and his friends will be fine, but the majority of ordinary folks in the US and Canada will suffer. Very dumb, indeed.

The trade deficit is because of crude oil which the US buys cheaper from Canada btw and keeps their economy running. Fentanyl and the trade deficit are no good reasons to begin a trade war with Canada. I am beginning to think that he just wants to please Russia... or he is just dumb.

Canada was requested numerous times to help stop the flow of fentanyl which Mexican cartels trafficked that killed 200,000 Americans. Trudeau's reply is only 1% of fentanyl comes through Canada.. even though they don't properly secure the border and everyone knows the amount is significantly higher.\nTrudeau ran to Mexico to sweet talk THEM into mutual trade deals rather than assist the US stopping Mexican cartels.\n\nTrudeau should be arrested and tried by military tribunal for his participation in 200,000 deaths.

If the free world wants to put pressure on the US for this betrayal, trade in euros (not dollars) and avoid US products and services. There are plenty of options. The US is so exposed to China through its debt that it will need to back down from these policies or collapse economically.
