It would be a problem for the US but Canada is the richest country on earth that is the worst run. I used to dream of moving there but no thanks, owning a home is impossible, too many immigrants, shit wages compared to the US. And many more things.

Coming up to 10 years in Canada and as a whole the country has turned to shit. Working conditions are poor, healthcare is atrocious, Canadians are overworked, sick pay is nonexistent in a lot of industries, housing is objectively unaffordable across the country, cost of living is becoming unsustainable and whilst Canada has a beautiful landscapes, it simply cannot make up for how poorly the country is being run.

This man maybe right. But his circumstance is unique. Moreover, he traveled with a very high expectation, so once such expectation isn't realized maximally he'll surely frown at the situation. \nIn everything we do in life, we should learn to be grateful to every system that puts food on our table. \nIt's not easy anywhere. While some complain about Canada, others rejoice. So, intending immigrants should compare the realities of the country before traveling. \nFor me, I prefer Canada to Africa in general. \nNothing is working in Africa. They're running a dead system. Age is an important factor while considering immigration. For folks less than 30, Canada will offer you a great opportunity if you are focus and knows how to develop your skills or career. For Folks that have worked the better part of their lives in their home country, say from age 40, DO NOT sell all you have worked for back home and bring the money to Canada, the system here is designed to swallow all that money in a short time. For these group of people do not immigrate because you want a better life for your children, but your primary focus will be what can I do in a short possible time that can earn you money to survive this economy. Housing is the most important factor and do a lot of research on where to settle that will fit your income and provide better job. Also make sure you are re-trainable. Be prepared and that includes all members of your family. Wife and husband and all their adult children must be ready to hit the ground running and find whatever job within a short possible time. Paying bills become a less burden if all members of the family are contributing their own share. It is not like back home where the man is the brad winner and takes care of others responsibilities.

This may be accurate from presentation part, but see the actual reality, if canada is that much attractive for skilled immigrants, it should be world leader in technology or manufacturing but it is not as life is very harsh here. For most professional except IT your education is not valid or you have to go through very length process of validating your education and getting in main stream to get the job some time it takes years of continuous job like effort. Salary structure is garbage compared to USA. It is impossible to find an affordable house or apartment which you can rent, forget about buying.. Tax system is upto moon. Healthcare is broken and on top of that Black money is dumped from all over the world in real estate. Canada is a broken country and it heavily relying on international students and wealth immigrants to run their country. You are welcome here if you have shit load of money otherwise think 100 times before you come to this country.

Consumer borrow to buy property instead of using it for business \n- Long run no new business > Low job count available > Low Canada GDP \n- Due to Tax structure in Canada, most start up gets acquired by U.S or Foreign countries \n- Better pay in U.S, so by cross border you earn 33% more \n- Low R&R in canada , low capital invested into workers > low value yield per hour for workers \n- Competitiveness Index rank 14 = Low productive compared to smaller countries like Singapore (Rank 3) \n- Rank 11 in talent citizen but too bad most went to U.S instead. Earn 33% more.

Canadian (Albertan here) - yes, i don't think i'd move to the States unless it was reasonably close (maybe Montana) with fewer people - i'd like to identify as a Hermit :). I motorcycle and have travelled majority of the States, from coast to coast, and i really do like the country side and scenery, and history, that you run through. I do a 4000-6000 mile tripe every year or two - did Tennessee last year, and Colorado this summer. A lot of absolutely amazing country really, and yes some really great people as well. Have run into some real odd people as well and some places i wanted to get out of pretty quick. I do like the fact the US hasn't bought into this woke agenda and politically correctness - it's absolutely nuts up here. I like the gun laws in the States, too bad we're so screwed over that in Canada. Gotta love Trump - may be a bit of a bozo but hey - the guy lays it out and owns his shit, every other polititician plays the blame game and does everything politically correct... End of day, i'd prefer to stay in Canada, either Alberta or British Columbia.

The problem with Canadas economy is that the canadian government is 10000 percent dependant on running its economy using the IMPORTED money of so called immgrants from Asia and Middle east into Rear Estating, permanently creating hyper inflation in housing prices and ensuring the banking ponzi scheme does not collapse, as their money in real estate bails out Canadians and banks, via higher and higher and higher home prices. CUT THE CRAP AND LIES, this is 100 percent the economic policy and has been for years of Canadistan, the other is pouring 1000000 of so called foreign exchange students to pay 40000 for to attend one of the 1000s of crap fake colleges....to come to canada and get their prs and import and pend 100k ish per head in to the countrys economy.

I lived in Canada from 1983 to 2016 after I left the US Air Force in '83. I was born in the SF Bay area, and grew up there in the Hippie peace love/Viet Nam era in the 60's and 70's. I now live in Seattle. As we have travelled to San Fran, New Orleans, Nashville, Miami, Vancouver (Canada) and New York in the last 6 months, I kinda have a pretty good idea how it was on both sides of the border way back then, as well as right now. We have 2 rental homes, and I STILL have to work until I'm 70 to retire without worrying about losing it all because of the the high cost of health care. Your observation of race/political/religion relations are naive at best, you need to travel the country first hand to see it. Canada has it's far share of right wing crazies as well. They're mostly not armed, and most fights are 5 minute shouting matches. I know this because I work on construction sites. Canada doesn't have commercials for pharma or ambulance chasers. Because big pharma is kept in check, and with a population slightly smaller than California, frivolous lawsuits would clog the courts. If the PM killed some one on the corner of Yonge and Bloor in Toronto, he'd go to jail. You can get an abortion in Canada. There's a fraction of the Fentanyl crisis happening in Canada, and they have waaayy less homeless in the street. Canada has 2 weeks paid vacation AND paid holidays. The tax rate is higher in Canada, but many of the benefits make up the difference. It's cheaper to buy a house in Seattle than Vancouver. You can get a 30 year mortgage in Washington as well, instead of 5 or 10 years. Good and services tend to be cheaper and more plentiful Stateside. Mail service runs on weekends, it hasn't done that in Canada since the 80's. As it stands, I'm in Seattle right now because it isn't the typical US city by far. But I'm thinking when it comes to retiring, I'm putting Canada on the list. Being a dual citizen also makes me eligible for the other Commonwealth (universal health care) countries like Australia.

The problem with Canada's economy is simple. The problem even has a name, which is Justin Trudeau. Every moron that voted for him should take a good long look in the mirror and know that THEY are the reason Canada is imploding right now. Seriously... wtf did they think was going to happen when they voted for a person who's cumulative life experience was working as a drama teacher for 2 years before being forced to resign for having sex with a student. I still don't understand why people waste their prime years running after passport change . Focus on creating wealth instead. Living a below middle class life in Developed country is not great. Also, the actual reason on why these people were denied Australian citizenship is because their skillsets didn't add value to Australian economy. Admin manager is not a niche skillset. anyone can become that. Canada is in desperate need of people and hence they got the passport not really because Canada was in awe of how smart these folks are.

You say if you've in a small place your children are safe in school. Really?? Do you think the people living in Uvalde (population 15,000) feel safe after 19 children and 2 staff were slaughtered? You say that most people are 'ok' with health care as Americans are insured through their work Really? The States is wonderful in many ways, but the your private health care system is dreadful. People die because their HMOs tell Americans what diagnostic tests they can or cannot afford. I read that one in four US families go bankrupt because of huge medical bills NOT covered by their insurance. Also the gun situation would give most Canadians pause. In Canada, only hunters, trappers, remote forest workers and cops carry guns. Last but not least: the right wing MAGA goons terrorizing people for flying Pride flags freak me out. Canada is a free country. We have bigots and thugs here too — but they don’t run the show the way they do in so many places in the States.

For all the amazing things the US has to offer, right now we don't even want to visit there, let alone move there. We've talked about it a lot, but nope. In Canada, generally speaking (although there are exceptions to every rule) we have no idea what political leaning our neighbors favor. Political campaigns last no more than 51 days; they do not start the day after the last election and go on for years. This way, elected officials actually do some work instead of campaigning. Right now, the politics in the US, as well as the judiciary, are literally insane. Gun violence in the US is insane, as is the attitude towards guns. It shouldn't take a shooting that affects you personally to make you care about it, and it's not just at schools. The US has had 28 mass killings, with 140 victims, in 6 months... but the problem is that no one down there cares about that enough to stop it, or even discuss ways to stop it. The politics is so sold out to corporations that what is good for the people just doesn't matter. It is capitalism run amok. Environmental protections? They are an inconvenience, and most of them were rolled back a few years ago under the presidency of He Who Must Not Be Named. So politics, elections, shootings... but wait. There's more. I have a wonderful friend in the US who has amazing health care, and yet when he got cancer, he was screwed. We do pay a health care premium up here, but it is a drop in the bucket compared to what people in the US pay for private insurance. Yes, you have the best hospitals in the world, but it doesn't matter if you can't afford to walk in the door. Now dump the intolerance -- racism, homophobia, religious zealots, misogyny (yes, I am talking women's rights, equal pay, access to health care, etc) -- throw in the crazies with guns, and now ask the question again. I absolutely know that Canada is not perfect, and that the tolerances and attitudes towards all these subjects differs from region to region, but overall we are a country that tries to respect the rights and needs of others, that has empathy for others, that wants to help others, and that is a pretty firm foundation to make us want to stay here. (please don't interpret this as all Americans and all areas of the US have no respect etc... but the predominant issues of health care, politics, religion, corporate greed, and violence, now all supported by a bat-crap crazy SCOTUS, sadly spills and taints it all. I know there are amazing, generous, kind people all over the US, but I don't know where the crazies are or where they might pop up).

To put things into perspective Tyler, there have been 340 mass shootings in the States so far this year. That's more than one a day and is scarily close to 2 per day. Meanwhile in Canada there's been 2 (which also thankfully no one has died in and 'only' 4 were injured in each though ideally neither of these would have happened either of course). The year in Canada with the highest number of mass shootings ever was 2018 with 7. Since the year 2000, there have been 53 mass shooting in Canada. That means, in less than a year, the US has had more than 6x the amount Canada has had in the last 23 years combined. Almost all of Canada's mass shootings also tend to happen either directly in Toronto or just the GTA in general so, anyone who's worried about that in Canada can live basically anywhere else in the country.\n\nI have no doubt that the vast majority of Americans are at least decent human beings with a fair number of them being amazing people. However, if even 10% of Americans were considered crazy, that's basically the same number of people as the population of Canada. Canada has it's crazy people too of course but the chances of running into one is far less likely and it's much harder for those crazy people to become dangerous because it's harder to get firearms.

Tyler, with complete respect you DON'T get why we generally have no interest in moving to the US. You constantly talk about 'you just have to find the right place to live'. True of anywhere, but here the choice would be about preferences and afordability, NOT to avoid gun violence or shunning because of political views.\nThere is no where in Canada I could move to where gun violence would be a big factor to consider (we have rough places, and gun violence, but STRICT gun laws). Let me give you some perspective. In 2019 the USA had 37,038 gun related deaths. (No other causes of death- JUST all gun death). In Canada, in 2019, our death by illegal means (which does include suicide, as it is illegal) was 5,874. (That is for ALL types of homicide, not just guns). And the government was shocked by the increase that year and tightened gun restrictions further.\nYou talk about having certain States more Red or Blue. We aren't bi- partisan, so our politics are a melting pot. You might have people you disagree with everywhere you go, but you will also always find an equal group who thinks similar (unless your an extremist). And even the people who think different will generally agree to dis- agree. There is next to nowhere in Canada where your political views would get you run out of town. \n\nYou are USED to thinking like an American. (Fair, your American; I think like a Canadian) Trust me, as a Canadian, there are aspects of the accepted American culture (your country's way of life) that is boarderline terrifying to people here.

Forget parents, even many immigrants are unhappy in Canada. Every time I run into an Indian who has studied or lived in US he is frustrated. 2 people in my team received their Canadian citizenship and have started trying for positions in US. 3 white Canadians in our company moved to US in last 2 year itself.\nCanada is not a great country from parents. It's cold, white and depressing throughout. Many parents can stay for relatively longer in California or Texas where there is vibrant community and weather is very much like India. I lived for 10 years of life in snow before moving to Canada - Massachusetts, North Carolina and Virginia. I just 2 winters, I feel depressed in Canada as it's white for 4 to 5 months.

We are so litigious (side eye to John Edwards ) that doctors practice defensive medicine and carry high limit malpractice insurance (guess who pays for that?). Every decision is driven by avoiding lawsuits, not proper patient care.\n\nPost Obamacare, US health care is an unmitigated disaster at every level. We’re short on doctors, too. Many quit and students are losing interest—medicine won’t pay enough anymore to justify $500K in loans.\n\nWe could repeal every bit of Obamacare tomorrow and still not be able to fix it. The leviathan grew tentacles that released toxins into every nook and cranny of the system. Now that they have buried themselves in critical layers, it would be impossible to yank them out.\n\nI have a good PCP who is booked 6-8 weeks out. Specialists? Hah. GI, neuro, and derm? Four to six month wait post referral.\n\nI never thought I would say such a thing but I would probably swap the Serial Sexual Predator occupying the WH for your Little Lord Fauntleroy.\n\nCan Canada compete with us in corruption? Again, look to the US. It’s nothing even close to what the make believe media caterwauls about. If white supremacists are behind every tree, where is the evidence? The cuts were targeted to preserve wealth for the middle and lower classes.\n\nI could go on for another 100 pages but you get the idea and I get crabby writing for free.\n\nI will leave you with the caution that it’s best if you doubt and question any data and any stats coming from our government. Those are seldom legit. If the data comes from a study, always look to see who paid for it. And how large the sample size was; how were the participants selected? The UK is pretty much like Canada, now. There is only room for the 5% who are rich (the capitalists & rentiers) and the 35% of people on Benefits (the 35% of population who live off welfare paid for by the State using the hard-working tax payer's money). The honest, hard-working middle-class (about 50 to 60% of society) are absolutely screwed and doomed, because all they can now do is keep working their guts out till they drop dead, and never hope to have a decent life. The culture of state-funded Welfare has now gotten so bad that I now live in a street where some 30% of the people who live off Welfare have been given State funded houses, and those houses which are bigger and better than mine (all paid for using my tax money). And I have slogged my entire life (I am 65 now) to pay off a large mortgage on a house that eventually has lower value than the houses that people on Welfare are given on the same Street! Worse still, now that I am approaching the stage where I might need to go into a Care Home, my house (which I worked for my entire life to attain) will have to be sold off to pay for my Care Home costs. While my neighbours who never worked a single day in their life (and whose life was subsidized using my tax money) will again get free state-funded Care Home facility too! It utterly beggars belief. \n\nWhen state-funded Welfare gets to a point that doing an honest day's work actually penalizes you, because all you are doing is funding the lifestyles of the other half of society who wish to sponge off State Welfare (due to the high taxes the Government is forced to impose on the working middle-class to support the 35% on State benefits), then that society can never prosper, firstly because it removes the motivation to work hard, and secondly because some day the Government will run out of money to continuing funding the lavish lifestyles of people on State Welfare. And that is very much now the state of affairs in countries like Canada, the UK, and much of EU. It is an unsustainable model. \n\nBy contrast, in countries like the US, China, India, etc. there is a much greater correlation between hard work and reward. Choosing to not go to work and sponging off Governmental welfare is simply not an option. And that is precisely why countries like these will continue to prosper in the coming years - because they have some form of Meritocracy. Unfortunately, I think countries like the UK, Canada, and most western EU countries are looking at a downward spiral, and there are no easy solutions, because their Welfare model has already created these huge segments of society which depend on it and will not allow it to be demolished - but the day is fast approaching where they will all soon run out of money to continue funding it (most of these countries are already facing huge Debt-GDP ratios, and there is no conceivable way of them coming out of it).

Oh my goodness...Canada seems to have run out of red carpets...Canada has problems. It has racism. It has sexism, yet with only high school four of my sisters became bank management and executives...and we have a blue-collar mixed-race heritage. But despite that Canada has a tiny tiny economy compared to its immediate neighbour and still delivers an impressively comparable lifestyle...plus a health care system that struggles to find a way to be universal in our post-pandemic world...that actually saved my American-immigrant husband's life. If you can understand the sheer competitiveness of trying to get a job in this marketplace then you might understand that despite Canada's best efforts it's not the land of Oz. If other countries are better sorted and have your dream jobs waiting by all means have that good life where you can. If you want to work towards building a future in a relatively safe and free nation...and that will mean taking part in ironing out age old problems...maybe Canada is for you.

Under Trudeau Canada has 1.3 trillion in debt since 2015 . Under a Conservative government in 2014 we had a 600 billion surplus. There are too many selfish idiots in this country who want to get rich quick through property investing. As a result of this everyone is mortgaged up to their eyeballs in debt. People think that owning investment properties means you're some sort of god. If we didn't have any resources our entire economy would be focussed on building homes. The thing is, the houses that builders build in this country are terrible. They don't insulate well, the materials used are crap, the workmanship is poor. People on average now take out mortgages 6-7x their income. To keep property booming we open the floodgates for immigrants. The societal landscape of our country is changing for the worse. Looking around Melbourne and Sydney, most people are either Chinese or Indian now. These people run away from their countries (which they think are crap compared to the West) and then they buy houses here resulting in people born in Australia losing out.\n\nThe entire thing is a god damn ponzi scheme.

If the western provinces (Saskatchewan, Alberta, BC) seperated from Canada and became our own country we would be one of the best and wealthiest countries. I came to Canada 2months back with a job with an above average salary but already figured I can't stay here for too long as it's not a place to settle down unless you are a factory/construction labour. It's a beautiful beautiful country with so many amazing people. But people who are running this country are not passionate or caring about Canada rather to their capitalist masters. For every problem I hear that it's not clear whose responsibility it is, fed, state or city or district etc. If you love Canada why would it be so difficult to figure that out as it is not a country created 2 years back. And housing prices can't be fixed till a decade at least, as you can't expect to devalue the assets by half suddenly, so you have to wait till the inflation normalizes it.

Canada’s biggest problem is it’s socialistic policies of the Liberal governments. Don’t confuse things: social programs like education and healthcare are not an exclusive marker of socialism. The balance of government interference in the economy IS. Nobody in their right mind would start a business in Canada today. \n\nSecondly, running a business means buy and resell, manufacture and sell leaving a profit. But the business of running Canada is losing money. The formula of running the country doesn’t work. We go deeper into debt every year, now to the point where it’s impossible to grow out of debt. As we allow massive immigration to counteract an aging, non-productive population, because of that negative formula, we just keep going deeper and deeper into debt. But it seems that most Canadians want that because we keep voting in the ‘robbers’. It’s time for Canadians to understand that soon a death tax will come in where all your asset value in taxes will go to the government. We're polite and nice until we're taken advantage of or treated like an idiot! Kindness is important, but doing what's morally right is more important to me personally! So if that means me speaking up or calling out bs when I see it, I will! I do believe in giving each person their own clean slate. I adjust according to the person!
