I am a Canadian with close family in the U.S. Unfortunately even if the tariffs are reversed and the rhetoric tones down I don't see Canadians trusting the U.S. again anytime soon. A fundamental connection has been broken.

We have been looking and still do look to Canada as a model quite a bit and love Canada and Canadians to pieces. We Michiganders especially in the central and eastern UP and Detroit and Ann Arbor area are friends, coworkers, and family of Canadians. Some are even dual citizens. I'm European, but I lived in Canada for a couple of months and actually got to see Trudeau speak live in Parliament. He gave a very different speech that day - a eulogy. I did not think then I would ever hear this man this very obviously pissed off. He's like one of those teachers that don't need to shout to show their students they are in big trouble. I don't know if I would vote for him if I was Canadian, but I would certainly be proud of him right now.

I'm a born Canadian and i'm BAFFLED at how you would turn around and impose tariffs on your closest ally. Canada and the US had a relationship that was built on trust co-operation and trillions of dollars and it means nothing to their current president. I used to be a fan of Trump, but the recent situation with Zelensky along with the tariffs i can see more and more that having him back in office was a huge mistake. Trump obviously doesn't care about how the tariffs affect his country and his people because he responded by threatening to raise the tariffs in retaliation to Canada's response.

The reason for this 'trade war' is not about 'trade'. It's about 'creating chaos' so that president Trump is the 'centre' of world attention. A malignant naracistic individual apparently cannot have anyone seemingly to be 'doing better' or being more successful than he is. Maybe its time for others in positions of authority in other institutions to step in and 'take control'. As a person who did not (!!!) vote for Mr. Trump, I am heartbroken to see our two countries in a trade war. My sympathies are for the American and Canadian families who will be sharply affected by this madness.

As an American, I stand 1 million percent with the Canadian people and their government. It's a bummer as our Toronto area Canadian extended family has cancelled their visits to see us. However, we're going to arrange to visit them and meet just over the border in Sarnia this year instead. Win for Canadian tourism loss for US and Michigan.

While I am going to financially suffer from this, I want to see our country start new deals with Europe and Asia.
