Simple really, in Maslow's hierarchy of needs a person who doesn't have security in their basic needs of food, shelter, and safety can't get beyond that point up the ladder to self actualization considering other aspects of fulfillment, if you and your fellow countrymen are suffering and can't secure necessities for even basic survival like housing then seeing others come in is a threat to what little resources are available and therefore a threat to you regardless of where they are from, threats are reacted to with anger as a survival mechanism often subconsciously and is a normal human response, it's not hatred towards immigrants it's justified anger, frustration, and fear about you and your family being out on the streets and of course it's also universally unfair and unjust to those who were already part of the country and have paid into it, competition for resources in other words, I'm not Canadian but it works the same way no matter where you are

So while people tend to equate your democrats to our liberals or our NDP , and equate your republicans to our conservatives. It’s just not accurate. If you throw our span of parties and American span of parties on the SAME spectrum /polarity line. You might be surprised to realize how shifted left our systems range politically is from the American one. \n\nThis hugely impacts the average normal expectation , what we clutch our pearls at hearing coming out of the mouths of the general public , and our range of what we expect to not hear or see ranted about unless they’re to our view , extremely right leaning politically /social values. \n\nFor us this means that actually genuinely , a lot of America does get experiences by us as bat shit crazy racist homophobic immigrant intolerant culturally and religiously ignorant , and somewhat backwards in larger or smaller amounts ? I know that’s not fun to hear but. Being the most diverse country based so much on immigration means. My parents were both born in the states and my older brother was born there but they moved up here when he was a baby. So nearly all my extended family lives down there and I’m a duelly. And my experiences discussing things with my cousins or visiting absolutely could be described as culture shock at times. The insane things that came out of my own cousins mouths when they hear our friends or partners of various cultures , our not understanding how big a deal and incredibly insulting apparently it is to have assumed someone American was lgbt lol the list goes on. Like I don’t think our most intolerant Pockets can hold a flame to even ur closet to middle a bit intolerant places and contexts in America. Everything has pesticides, hormones, and by the time fruit and vegies arrive here from the US all the nutrition have gone. A extremely high cancer rate, young and old, diabetes, depression and other mental disorders are rampant. Our children and grandchildren do not have a future so why bother going to school or work. The US will not assist Canada when a possible War 3 will occur, and we the people of Canada and the land are easy prey. If you do not believe me, just come visit RED Deer shelters and walk around on the trails, go to Vancouver but becareful because random assaults are happening every day, people living in tents, using the streets as toilets, drugs galore, even the police is unable to act nor arrest criminal activities caused by desperate people who need to survive. Canada's economy is about to collapse and fall into a recession. We have too many people coming in our country without checking their back ground and many criminals and terrorist groups are entering declaring refugee status whether it is true or not, we do not know. The people of Canada who work and pay highest taxes are used to house these newcomers and education, jobs, food and money. Our government take better care of these illegal people than their own people especially our youth. So please let us not pretend Canada is a land of opportunity and great. I'm a newcomer, and I agree with the points, and I see that people are blaming immigrants in general, but they don't think in the structural flaws that we have in the government system, I found a shame the public transportation in some of the biggest cities and in other public services, and I found that could be easier the validation of diplomos, we have doctors and engineers driving uber, because they can't work in their profession, and I feel that they are putting limits in the immigrants from one side, but they have no limits in refugees, I understand that they need help but should have a limit that the structure can hold.

Immigrants are being used, most people put everything they have to come here and start a new life, but most people only see us as numbers , most of us don't have access to those social securities or we try to avoid using them because they work different for immigrants, while refugees come with permanent residence, without even speaking the language, and they don't come alone, they come in large groups, complete families all with all the benefits, that to me seems really unfair

Very true, I have only been here for few years and noticed it. Canada immigrants spin the wheel and big bosses just sit back make rules and live on the commission. They just focus on all these dues from the labor. Ridiculously high taxes, union dues, license fee, etc etc… and only few big businesses (whether bank or telecom) monopolizing whole country’s economic and running the government. Congratulations for all the hard work and research you 've done to compile so many data and provide a comprehensive explanation of the current situation. I'm an immigrant looking to get my PR, I have qualifications from one of the top universities in the world, experience as an international consultant and most important I do respect the Canadian culture and follow the rules. However, even for me it is uncertain what is going to happen? and/or if the government will make more changes and kick us out hahaha. I do believe that immigration has poured a lot of money into Canadian's pockets and most of them are not considering that, some of that money is going to go to another country who is willing to manage immigration with a better approach and provide a more certain perspective to new immigrants. The government allowed many bad actors (locals and foreigners) to take advantage of the system and those who are going to pay the bill are new immigrants due to political elections, and that is just sad. We will see who are they going to blame for mismanagement of public resources and the possible crash of several industries, that are currently relaying on foreign money, once there are no new immigrants to blame. I agree with most of the new rules regarding immigration, but I strongly disagree with the political approach of how the government is blaming immigrants for their lack of proper management. I still believe Canada is a great country no matter the outcome of my personal immigration process, wish you all the best of luck!

Immigration MAY play a role in rising prices... In fact, it's negligible. Private Equity and Corps are using the excuse of 'immigration' to intentionally drive up prices. Why have prices increased generally. The Gov't printed too much money to keep the Corps/Bay St Happy and share prices up. They should have just rode it out like the rest of the World (aside from Western Countries, You see the exact same thing happening... Rising costs, mass immigration, etc. coincidence? ?) . So in fact, it's not that things got more expensive... our currency deflated. Aside from US and EU at least... majority of our immigrants aren't illegals, refugees, people seeking asylum, etc. They actually can bring value to the economy (some would disagree... ?, besides that). As long as the Gov't ends the TFW BS... we'll be fine. Maybe... Doesn't help when Can Officials are sharing the bed with Sikh business Tycoons... Jagmeet, Danielle, etc. That's a story for another time.

It's happening in the US too. Given the state of affairs in Gaza, I predict that we will see a huge influx of Palestinians seeking asylum over the next decade. The irony being that the US is openly supporting the genocide happening there as we speak. The problem is neoliberalism and capitalism. The 2 main political parties are hand in glove with neoliberalism and capitalism. The real reasons for low productivity? 2 weeks of vacation, no sick days, low wage economy etc etc. People are stressed, exhausted and they see work no longer pays. Even those on 60k a year. India has 1.4 Billion people and Canada has 40 million. So Canada has less that 3% of India's population. A program where there is open unllimited immigration from India will completely wipe out Canadian civilization. Any intelligen person ought to be able to see this. Low skill and low wage might have been ok when costs were low - low food prices, low energy prices, low housing and rental costs, etc. Now that everything is incredibly expensive, Canada is stuck between a rock and a hard place. Either wages will go up (which have been fairly stagnant for the last 30-40 years) so that it goes above and beyond inflation, OR you will not be able to bring in low skill, low wage labor. Simply put, when rents are $3000 a month in Toronto, minimum wage of $15/hr is $2500/mth (before taxes). Add another $1000/mth for food, and $500/mth for other expeditures - and you can see that just to survive - a person in Toronto needs a minimum of $4500/mth to not be on the streets. And this is IFF they are not married and have kids which can easily drive expenses to $6000/mth\n\nSo... for someone to just live normally, they need a bare minimum of $30/hr for 2000hr/year - this is a salary of $60K before taxes!\n\nBut the median income in Canada is 35K to 40K (it's on your tax return which determines if you get extra help from the government).\n\nSo... with these prices - you will never get low wage workers here... period. You can't expect immigrants to work as slaves and then pull your country out of the mess you created by spending money on useless programs like a drunken sailor.\n\nCut costs, cut taxes, cut inflation (stop printing money), cut useless programs (ala DOGE in the US), allow housing to crash, diversify your economy, invest in start ups and entrepreneurs, increase salaries, scrap the carbon tax, etc. Notice - none of these have anything to do with immigration.

Thank you for summarizing these key changes! Many problems are actually the Canadian immigration system not learning from the mistakes of the US system and now it’s suffering the same consequences. If Canada cuts down on those selected immigrations but still takes in refugees, it’s only going to make anti-immigrant sentiment worse. Selected immigrants are allowed into Canada to help alleviate Canadian issues…or at least people who come through Express Entry are less likely to become a burden. On the other hand, refugees, given their unfortunate circumstances, really need to rely on a lot of social services and resources to help them resettle. The US has eliminated pretty much all non-humanitarian immigration that’s why immigrants are so demonized there. Americans only feel the drags of refugees and asylum seekers (even though ethically we need to protect them) and there is no selected immigration to balance that out. Yet this round of Canadian policy change is heading exactly that direction.\n\nIt used to be international students in Canada are not paying a lot more tuition than Canadian students. But Canadian universities saw how much money universities in the US are making so they asked the federal government to change the policy to enable them to charge international students several times the regular tuition (whereas in countries like France, international students actually pay less than citizens). So now Canadian universities rely too much on international students to operate and it becomes an exploitative relationship even before students step foot on the campus. The new PGWP eligibility is awful because students can make contributions in every field. It might (and that's a big if) address the pressing problems, but it won't help Canada grow.\n\nI thought the new language requirement was interesting. Some Canadians who immigrated decades ago when the bar was really low still speak English poorly and now they are saying people can’t come to Canada because their language skills are not sufficient. Another point about language is if you apply through Express Entry now, even if you scored the highest language score, given how competitive the pool is, you still won’t get selected. So it’s a given that you need to be fluent in one of the languages at least to get an invitation. Express Entry also selects only the top people, I saw the head of The Institute for Canadian Citizenship in interviews talking about those top-tier people only expect the best treatment/lifestyle when they come to Canada. That's why many of them leave after seeing these Canadian problems play out. But I believe a good Canadian life is not about living in a high rise in Vancouver and Toronto, driving an expensive car, or buying luxury items...it's about the communities, nature and middle-class comfort. So the system is giving PRs to the wrong kind of people (just like mismatched people when hiring that don't align with company values).\n\nThis brings me to the last frustrating issue. There were so many people who attended “fake” universities and bought “fake” jobs to earn points to get an Express Entry invitation. And it's clear that the government wasn't proactively catching these abuses. They are taking up spots from those who try to earn the points fair and square. If I understand correctly, Canada doesn’t send these people away if they are found out (since some of them were scammed). So they still take up immigration quotas.\n\nI have wanted to move to Canada for a long time. I have visited Canada many times, hiking trails through the coastline and fjords, climbing mountains and glaciers. I lived in Montreal for two months to improve my French and I was told by my homestay family that I was the first student they had who didn’t complain about the cold (I wish the winter never ends so I can skate or xc ski in the parks year-round). I have probably seen more Canada than many Canadians and I love every bit of it. But the opportunity for me to even get a shot to move there is pretty much nonexistent now. Hello Anna and Anastasia your channel is truly a hidden gem full of useful information and insight. I am an international student myself and I agree with all your points in the video, Canada used immigration to fix a deeper problem and that is its difficulty to incentivize the economy by having a heavily regulated environment, high taxes and low productivity. It will definitely alleviate some of the pressure on the system but, the real cause is still there. The first sector that is going to be affected will be the education as colleges and universities became over reliant with the revenue coming from Int. Students (which is not particularly small) and institution will need to adapt. When I first came here I fell in love with the country and I really feel fortunate to enjoy this beautiful place and doing everything to assimilate and integrate myself into the culture. I think here you can have a sense of hope of things improving in the future (something that is not the case in my home country) but if they do not fix the underlying problem it does not matter how much immigration they reduce, Canadians will not see a significant improvement. Paying hefty taxes, integrating with culture, following the law of land just to see this country turning into a mess! this is literally just a negotiating tactic of imposing tariffs to get the border countries to stop the flow of immigration and drugs/cartel gang activity from there own side and for them to pay for it with there own money while we do what is needed on our side of border and then there will be no tariffs imposed on Mexico or Canada if you can't see this then you shouldn't be concerning yourself with politics or business as it will be too much for you to understand

As an Alaskan, I have a lot of relationships with my Canadian brethren to my south, both personal and business. While supply chain problems, housing crisis, poor wages, cost of living, and immigration, are all huge issues in Canada, but in my experience, by far, the absolute worst problem I have both witnessed and been a victim of, is the extreme level of crime. Especially organied crime. \n\nIn many rural areas the RCMP is literally run by organized crime, and it caused the justice system to resemble something you'd expect from a third world military dictatorship. I never hear western media discuss it, but the crime in Canada is probably some of the worst on the planet. I saw with my own eyes in New Brunswick for example, is completely controlled by organized crime. This has a very significant impact on the overall functionality of the system. \n\nIf you travel around the world, you will see just how aweful Canada is. I feel really bad for the people there.
