This is very telling and confims what we already knew. Many students are NOT here to study. Most are not. The student visas, which the liberals hand out like candy on Halloween, are simply an easily abused way of getting residency. And the liberals fell for it all hook line and sinker, letting in millions of students who will never leave, and who will then bring in their families as part of the liberal unification. This was their plan all along. Let's face it, Canada does not have an enviable education system. Why would an Indian student pay all that money to come to Canada to go to school, when they can easily get the same education for almost nothing in india? Back door immigration tactics. My kid just started college. His classes were of course stuffed full of international students on the first day or two. Now they don't come at all. They didn't come to Canada to study.

This isn't new. International students pay more to attend our universities, and always have. That's why universities prefer international students over Canadian citizens. As far as claiming asylum...big deal. That's been happening ever since Europeans came here, especially the white waves after WW's 1&2. Now, descendants of those people, are saying 'no more immigration'.

On what valid grounds that these students claim for asylum?or they just desperately to stay in Canada the fact that they are international students so it means they can afford the tuition fees and having good financial situations.?

They are not ‘international students’ they are illegal immigrants. When they applied for students visa in India or Bangladesh they did not have any reason for asylum.

Most of those international students applied refugee visas from india and they should deport them right way without even check their files.

Disgusting…. They are scamming the system. Asylum get 6000$ a month from our taxes. Take care of Canadians. International students just want a back door into Canada, they can’t even afford school or housing when they come and just claim refugee once they realize that. Miller said the student program is aiming for international excellence but he let in students of programs like hospitality, business diploma, hairdresser & beauty salon management, etc. International excellency my @SS this was all about money and a broken exploiting system.

As an international student, I claim most of these students come from 1 particular country. Just leave them be, and the freaking stupid trudeau system needs to stop caring about them; please take care of Canadians first!

If they were here under the International Student program, their assilum claim needs to be ignored completely.\nLooking into these fraudulent assilum claims would be a complete waste of resources in an already overburdened system.\nSend them home immediately. RELEASE THE COUNTRY DATA. I am so certain we will see just 2 countries taking the majority of these claims. Why punish all international students if thr problem seems to have 1 or 2 sources? Im sorry, but not every country is in a condition to where we can trust that the students aren't merely using study as a way to get to Canada. Until this issues are addressed back home or can be screened harder here, people from those countries should be banned from applying. Its so ridiculous. If the data shows its like a relatively even asylum application rate from like 10+ countries ok Ill shut up. If its like 1 or 2 countries. ban Ban Ban ffs.

Ofcourse if Canadian Govt. break many promises for international students, now they will apply for asylum seeker, this is the dark reality of this nation.

If the international students can afford to be an international student, then they are doing better than most Canadian students. Considering the fact that it cost international student three times as much for each course. They don't have the luxury to just live with their parents while going to school. International students are doing just fine. They should just go through the immigration system like everyone else. Don't cut in line.

Studying in canada is not a right but privilege, when you were coming here you said you will leave after school and how can you protest when they tell you to leave after school. These employers, along with immigration consultants, homeowners, and small business owners, perpetuate the narrative of a labor shortage to justify continued immigration for their profits but that immigration is tearing the values of our society apart. I fear, soon Canadian passports on the international airports will be treated like a third world country passport. This situation raises questions about the true necessity of immigration in Canada, especially when other countries do not seem to have the same demand. The influx of older international students, particularly from India, taking jobs that could go to Canadian youth, further fuels the debate.

Former Liberals Immigration minister Sean Fraser broke our immigration. Now 13k international students , ( probably 95 percent from India ) applied asylum status. These fake asylum applicants know our current immigration is a JOKE and they are taking advantage of the system. “Welcome to Trudeau Liberals broken Immigration”

International Students don't need asylums. Period

International students have no rights to protest other than study, which is why they come in the first place. Canada or US didn’t go to india and say please come. I think Canada should stop taking students through consultants in India. It is in India that people are selling false info and the students are blaming Canadian government. Even India has immigration rules and they are also strict in enforcing. Plus international students have to pay 10x more in Indian top colleges than local Indian. Rules are rules and should be followed or don’t come.

As an Indian immigrant and a former international student, I think its really important to follow the process. Make sure you complete your degree on time and get a work permit before your visa expires(so that you don't have an illegal presence), don't work cash jobs while you're going through your degree and respect the limitation of 20hrs/week. If your student visa expires and your work permit does not get approved, its best to go back. No matter which country is it, its really important to obey the laws. There is no point of going against the law and making unjustifiable demands.

Hello Sir, with due respect: i am an international student from INDIA, you are always welcome to stay in any of the 30 provinces in India! My question to you is, if an International student is spending 7000 cad each semester and completing a 2 yr program with total fee paid 28000 to 35000 CAD excluding the exorbitant rent like 1500 per month and grocery and personal tax, would definitely wish to get back some of the money they invested here in Canadian land, am i right? Would you be thinking the same way if you invest in India? Secondly, none of the employers are offering any white collar job or office job to these students unless otherwise they have Permanent Residency status here in Canada: the only way to get “PR” is to work for some pizza store or tim hortons- its not by choice, only jobs you have here in Canada for any students and now construction field too. So kindly don’t judge any international student from any part of the world on their skills. All we need is a way out by Planning our future. Lots of comments are on these kids: just imagine on a sports day or a national holiday or on a stormy day who will be serving you a double double? Who will do Uber… Please dont hate, just like any human we would love to be respected and we are not going to take back anything from Canada. Thank you

I'm an international student. I believe this dilemma could have been prevented by having an online interview with each temporary resident applicant, especially students and their spouses, before making an entry decision. I'm not criticizing what the immigration department has been doing, but proposing an effective way that only the right people are coming into the country. This could massively reduce the number of immigrants coming in. However, I believe it is unfair that students and their spouses are left hopeless after spending tons of money on Canadian education.

Of late, JT ( Liberal party) has become the whipping boy of Canada for all wrong reasons especially for the intake of a large number of international students and no one seems to be blaming the Conservative party that actually removed  the cap in 2014.  In 2014, in line with the International Education Strategy published by the  Government of Canada, the ruling dispensation decided to raise the number of international students from around 240,000 to over 450,000 by the year 2022. \n\nAccordingly in 2014, the then ruling dispensation (Conservative party) enhanced the number of international students visas to 327 thousand from the previous cap of 240 thousand.  In 2015, the figure went upto 352 thousand, representing almost a 47% increase  by CPC during their last 2 years in office .  As of 2023, there are over 1.5 million students holding study permits in Canada. \n\nIt is a known fact and no Canadian can sweep it under the carpet that the economic impact from the contribution by international students was felt across the entire country. From a mere $ 9 billion in 2014 it went to $12.8 billion in 2015 and it further enhanced to 15.5 billion in 2016. \n\nBy 2022, the Canadian government reported that the annual economic contribution of international students had increased to $22.3 billion, greater than exports of auto parts, lumber or aircraft. \n\nNow it is for the Canadians  to decide  as to who should be blamed  for  if Canadians feel that their country has become like a third world country- the international students who had contributed more than $22.3 billion to the exchequer of the govt  in the last 10 years or both the mainstream political parties namely Liberal Party and Conservative  Party  that failed the Canadians by opening up the flood gate to international students with  their eyes set only on the economic contribution  by international students  without  realising the after effect of huge unchecked  immigration of students. A myopic approach by the successive governments has brought in all sorts of chaos,  unrest, unemployment, shortage of houses, increase in cost of living etc..etc....to the Canadians. I can only sympathise with Canadins who are facing undue hardship and mental agony because of the wrongdoings of successive governments while worrying about the future of my ward who is pursuing  three years study program there.

My parents came to Canada around 1990, and I was born here in Canada. I support immigration but not at the cost to both Canadians and immigrants. Letting in immigrants without a cap is reckless and lead to consequences we face today. Now I believe we need to reduce the number of immigrants, temporary foreign workers and international students until our infrastructure can support Canadians and newcomers.

Well, I don't think so; Indian international students asap take advantage of PR because they hate extended visas. They are more jealous of Canada for PR. They must learn the study is done when they go to home in India. They don't want go to Indian because they are stubborn to stay in Canada. No excuse!!! They are done go to home in Indian....

I am an international student in Canada from the U.S. and intended on staying here after graduation, but after having learnt of the job shortages, the housing crisis, and inflation (due to the influx of immigrants), I've begun to consider returning to the States. It is unfair that your livelihoods are worsening because of foreigners taking advantage of the system (and this is also happening in the U.S.). I assimilate into Canadian culture and respect its laws, but I would hate to contribute to this population crisis.

International students are charged double the fees almost like $15,000 a year. I am sure alot of their fees are paying for the wages of Canadians that work at universities and colleges, so I guess that's not a problem but if international students take up low paying service jobs and pay taxes that is a problem. Yeap, it must be the international students from Punjab that are the problem but not the colleges/universities/government/corporations that are profiteering from this arrangement.

This is insane. International students replacing tax payers for a job opportunity. I do hope the government policy changes and not to grant them work permits. We need Canada back.

If you, as a post secondary institution, public or private, cannot house, the student’s you recruit or admit , independently on your own volition, then you should not be able to recruit at all. \n\nIn other words, if you recruit them , then you house them on your campus's. Not in the community. \n\nFor decade’s and decade’s, parent’s of gen Z and millennial have stated that their children have been unable to move out of the house. That their kid’s cannot afford the rent that is required. \n\nIf you’re competing with international student money, then finding an affordable apartment is next to impossible. \n\nThere is also the issue of wage suppression that also is a hinderance. There are argument’s being contrived in the opposite but, the evidence is clear. A mushroomed homeless population, children unable to leave home, renoviction’s, eviction’s . Despair and all the things that that despair leads to. \n\nPeople’s own love of humanity has been used against them, as a weapon. That isn’t anti immigrant , it’s self preservation, it’s survival. \n\nUse the “ data “ for the good of Canadian’s , and not for the bad. You the government(s) have the data, use it wisely.
