This is about more than the fentanyl. This is about Canada not pulling their own weight when it comes to defensive spending, this is about getting them to allow Us manufacturered cars into their markets, this is about convincing Canadian companies to build factories in the US… etc Trumps tariffs are creating hundreds of billions, soon to be trillions of dollars worth of investments into our market. We hold the largest market in the world. We hold the power here, not Canada. And bitching about relations with our allies isn’t going to sway conservative voters come the next election. When we win this “trade war” something tells me CNN will whine about how we won it instead of giving credit to the current administration for doing better by our citizens.

I live in Maine on the border with Canada and im absolutely ashamed at what trump is doing. Canada is an incredible country and a great ally to the US, and this entire thing that trump is doing is reprehensible. It would be an improvement to have a leader like Trudeau who can actually get a point across.

It's great that the fentanyl problem is being attacked at the border. What about Canada inside the borders? Why did it take Trump to impose tariffs for Canada to respond to the drug problem? And what about dealing with China? Most of the chemical compounds have been brought in from there...thousands of kids have died and Canada has not addressed China's conspiracy with this. I am so sorry Canada, truly. I'm embarrassed that our president would do this. It's shameful. Please know that even though the majority of votes put Trump into office, it wasn't a landslide. Something like 40% of us did NOT vote him in. Therefore, there are many, many Americans who did not want him, do not want his politics and are seriously sorry for his actions.

I love Canada. Canada will always be our ally, but there appears to be some “one sided-ness”. I believe the biggest issue being drugs coming across our border. \nAs someone who lives on the border, we see many Canadian cars coming to the US to shop. They even wear clothes that they throw away in dumpsters so they can wear their new clothes back to Canada without having to pay tax. \nI wish they wld accommodate to our requests.\n\nP.S. Canada sells the US 42% of US imported aluminum. Lumber. Fertilizer. Canada has rare minerals. Canada provides electricity to two northern states and northern NY. Among many other things.
