One of my sons moved to the US about 5 years ago for work. Great opportunity that simply didn't exist here in Canada. But he is counting the days until he can move back. The dysfunctional politics, the absurd partisanship on every issue, the unaffordable health care, the heat (he lives in Texas) and climate change denial. It is all just too disheartening.

I wouldn't count on America's demise anytime soon. Although they are presently going through some sort of self inflicted psychosis, they undoubtedly have the best constitution and system of government in the world. Add to that their military might and the fact that they hold the world's reserve currency and you have a pretty strong argument for continued success.

The problem with counting the percentage of immigrants in the us is a large majority of illegal immigrants are not tabulated in the statistics. I do believe the percent is much higher than 14% -source, I was a 2020 census worker

The financial sector is not a good barometer of the economy of a country. I know, it sounds crazy. But, it's true. There are many large businesses from other countries reaping massive profits from Canada which count into the progress of Canada until they decide to leave the country with the money. Also, large companies currently worldwide are more in the mode of pleasing their share holders. Thus, consolidating their businesses and firing hundreds or thousands at a time in those consolidations. The financial sector rarely trickles down their profits at the proper level to keep up with inflation and overall cost of living. This leaves the middle class and poor sinking into an economic abyss as each year passes. Which then leads to less purchasing power by the masses and inevitable economic declines.

The school shooting thing is HUGE. From 2009 to 2018 the US had 288 school shootings. In the same time Canada has had only 2! Like you said any number of shootings in schools is unacceptable, but that number is just insane to us. That’s an average of 32 shootings PER YEAR and not even counting the number of deaths.

No way. One thing people failed to mention is how often citizen's voting rights are suppressed. The whole system is politicized, gerrymandering is real. \n\nNot to mention the politics in the judicial system that extends all the way to the Supreme Court. Id say America spends lots money why not just pay every Canadian 1 million dollars and buy Canada LOL. Id say that's the only way some would move to the united states. Ita true about the mass shooting though.i just Google mass shootings in the US in this year. Although there is not always a large body count there have been like 387 mass shooting in America this year. Definitley desensitized by lack of choice regarding the school shootings. I remember the first time it truly shcoked me, when I realized (forget the year/time now) that there had beeen more school shootings in the US in ONE WEEK, than there had been in Canada in DECADES (I think I can count all of what we've had on one hand). Kids here grow up barely knowing (if at all until they are older) that it's even a thing.

For professionals instead of focusing on getting another degree I would advise to work on a professional designation. You may need to do few extra courses before taking the exam but most professional bodies recognize degrees from other countries so there is no need to re-do everything. While advanced degrees are highly valuable in many countries they don't count for much here.

Hello black women living in Leduc Alberta for over 20 year's . I'm from Toronto born in Jamaica . Now look nowhere is perfect there is racism everywhere, i found more in Toronto then Alberta.
