Current republican here. And although i dont usually see eye to eye with CNN's points of view. I'm here seeing what the 'other side' thinks on this topic. And I don't disagree with everything they said. Don't be too closed off to hear good ideas from someone you may not suspect to have them. Just listen and be willing to hear.

Well said. I love the USA, I have relatives who live there and in all the years of a beautiful relationship with the people of America I have never seen this situation. Mr. Trump you seem to want to conquer and divide relationships at any cost, even with people who care about you. You sabotage yourself and those who are loyal to you. I'm not sure if you understand the implications of your decisions. But I will say respectfully, there are no winners in a trade war, nor is it you that has the final say on the worlds outcome. This is God's world not yours and not ours. I'm really disappointed to see American people and Canadians hurting because of whatever the point of all of this means. But Canada is strong and we will stand up for our country. The American people are strong and they were strong before you became the President. Working together, we can take care of each other for our families and our country.

How is he defending Canadian jobs? The whole point of tarrifs is to make it unprofitable for American companies to use Canada for things like manufacturing, energy and other natural resources.\n\nThe liberal government is who made us weak where we depended on the trade deficit in our favour. If we looked at tapping our resources and finding other markets, we wouldn't be so far gone.\n\nTrudeau's answer? EI? More taxpayer debt?\n\nHe's trying to use this situation to garner support from the public. We're screwed.

Simple, to the point, factual, and brilliant speech. What the US is doing is starting a fight with the best neighbor you can possibly have, a neighbor who has always supported you. Trump is like Cesar setting fire in Rome.
|

That's a president. ? No, Trudeau brings up a good point. Canada should be very careful who they allow to buy their companies. I'd ban American corps from it entirely or you risk being taken over that way.

Shit we ain’t voting for this they are!!!!! We have no say in what the government does or we will just get shut out unless we raid out own capital to make a point

I hope that somebody in the administration who can make sure that the country doesn’t fall apart before the next four years is over, who knows what’s gonna happen at this point?

PM J Trudeau, you're on point and DJT would be wise to listen and take heed. DTJ you're wrong again.

I made it a point to buy Canadian Whiskey today in support of Canada and will continue to do so.

American here. I’m just in shock daily at this point. \nThis is not how we roll.

Any American business thinking about jumping into the Russian market is playing Russian roulette—except every chamber’s loaded. Putin’s already made it clear he’ll jail Americans whenever it suits him, and yet Trump seems determined to push U.S. interests into that trap.\n\nWhich brings me back to the bigger question—what exactly does Putin have on Trump? I get that Trump’s got the moral compass of a reptile hunting for its next meal, but even his own former foreign policy advisors—Bolton, Tillerson, Kelly—have all admitted they can’t quite explain his deference to Putin. I’m not one for conspiracy theories, but damn, at what point do we stop pretending this isn’t deeply suspicious?

You are missing a huge point. Canada needs to do their part to protect the border. They have had done enough!!!\n\nIf it was my daughter that was raped and murdered due to the illegal crossings; I would pay more. Put yourself in the place of the innocent girl killed. Imagine how her last moments were; yes I would pay more to stop that from ever happening again.

Just so it's known but America has never been self-sufficient. We have always been reliant on others with good trade and fairness towards each other. My grandparents went through ww2 and had to go through rations on everything from gas, oil to food and tires. You got a book for everything and had to tear them out to get your products. They said back 1943 they had to keep the farm and barely made it to vday. You all need to look at history and research things. These Republicans and president is gonna ruin farms and cost people to the point they will have to choose their meds or food. Never in my wildest imagination did I think we could have sunk so low and loosing allies and gaining a dictator that was a known Assassin and removed voting in Russia and here we have a guy in charge trying to imitate him. I guess criminals stick together

Awesome! There were NO making faces, bullying, yelling, or temper tantrums. NO pointing fingers around the room, NO lip or mouth contortions, NO squinting or snake eyes at people. This is someone in control and a secure, mature, intelligent leader. PM Trudeau did us all proud. THANK YOU. MERC!

Trudeau says tariffs against Canada products hurt American families, so on that point let me be crystal clear... \nIf tariffs are so bad for the American people, why are you doing the same thing and placing tariffs against American products, wouldn't that just hurt Canadian families?\nOh lets just look at the facts: You are lying and totally speaking out of your arse to get what you want. Boo hoo...

I'm proud to hear this from our PM. No appeasement. No concessions. We expect only a stupid response from a stupid, disgusting man. \nAll the Western leaders should band together to call out this disgusting, vile US leader & point out exactly what he is.
|

Michigander here. Canada's response is ON POINT. Good decision. Sad it had to be made.

I am absolutely outraged what Trump is doing. We the People of the United States as A Democrat never Voted for a Felon to the Whitehouse. Trump wanted to be President so he wouldn’t do Time. \nHe won’t even disclose what is in the Epstein Files because he was part of it. He had these young girls at Mar O Lago. \nI STAND WITH UKRAINE, PALESTINE, CANADA, MEXICO AND ALL EUROPEAN LEADERS TO STAND UP TO TRUMP AND HIS IDIOTIC VICE PRESIDENT WHO WAS NOTHING BUT A WAR PHOTOGRAPHER AND DID NO COMBAT FIGHTING HE OVER FLATED HIS MILITARY RECORD. AS A FORMER NAVY CORPSMAN DEPLOYED TO OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM AND OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOMS I SAW WHAT ROLE EVERYONE PLAYED. WE CAN PROTECT OURSELVES AND THE UNIT BY FIRING OUR WEAPONS BUT WILL NEED TO GIVE LIFE SAVING CARE. \nTrump Needs to see how he is treating leaders in these countries and I tell Canada Turn the Power off in New York and any other State to prove a point and charge leaders an exorbitant amount of money for using Fuel from Canada.
|

If you voted for trump, for whatever reason, at this point you should be ashamed. \n\nShame on you, you did this to your own country. Be better.

The problem with Trudeau is, he doesn't do the weave! He talks clearly, fluently, and he sticks to the point. He needs to drop a ton of bullshit in it all, like a real leader.

I maybe an ignorant on politics , but what happens when USA , well not USA but the Trump administrations has caused so much damage to the country to the point where other maybe most of his allies start taking responses such as that of Canada , and escalate to the point where perhaps USA lose most of his allies at least important allies such as Canada, the support of the global geopolitics , I Maine that scenario for a moment wouldn't that give Trump an excuse to align even more openly with Putin? I mean why would Trump want that at all who knows but he is certainly aligning with Russia just not openly at least that's what a lot of these decisions he has made recently seem to suggest I mean a lot of the consequences of those decisions and acting really seem to benefit someones agenda and to me a politics ignorant seems to be Putin ... Am I too crazy for thinking and feelings like that???

I really don’t want to live in the U.S. anymore. It’s just an embarrassment at this point and we basically have 3 Hitl3rs in office. SOS!!!
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
Of course, this will hurt the US and Canada... just like the threat of tariffs against the EU will hurt us even more and all of Europe... that's the point. It's great for Russia. And that's the total point. It's an attempt to align the US with Russia and weaken everyone else in the process. Trump and his stooges are betting the US economy can hold out while hurting everyone else to help good old Putin and his goals. It's always been about Russia.
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
The tariffs are meant to bankrupt Canada so they’ll be forced to join the US.. Pretty obvious at this point.
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
Yall are sheep. \nEvery country needs imports. But America relies on so many other countries to keep itself going is more than unhealthy. If China and the US went to war, yes, China would suffer. But look around your house, I bet most of it says - Made In China. That can NOT happen to the extent it is. \n\nFun Fact- when Russia, Ukraine war started, Russia couldn’t get Coke ( Soda ) now Russia has many knock offs that they say taste just like ours. Point is, Russia started making their own. Yes, the US will always need imports. But did you know over a dozen + countries already have & had tariffs on the US for a LONG time, some are even our “ Allies “. Do you know why they do it? To protect their economy. To protect domestic goods. The short term is always the hardest. But it’s been proven that the long run, tariffs actually help a country’s economy. Also, the US gets shafted when it comes down to a lot of trade deals. Yeah, okay, imports are great… ( If you are getting a good deal )

At this point it wouldn't surprise me if Donald Trump started Covid again.
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
At this point we need to repeal the amendment blocking trump to a third term and the pardon protecting hunter biden and we should throw him in jail
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
There will be a point of no return. When Canada no longer asks to have the tarriffs removed, and just pulls the electric plug -Proud Canadian

Another president pointing out how the US leader lies\n\nOh my God, save us

Bravo M. Trudeau pour ce discours. Je vais supporter une bataille à tout point de vue. Économique ou physique.
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
How I wish we had a sane decent leader. Who knows, maybe we'll have a military coup at this point. Thank you Canada for being sane and rational, hopefully we will recover and get a Biden type who cares about all citizens and our place in the world again...

He spoke so articulate and professional, his speech pin pointed the important issues at had. Well Done Prime Minister.

Are trump supporters that stupid? Like, really that stupid? At this point it should be a rally asking for Trump impeachment.
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
I must say even though he's had his flaws while in government, this speech was great! Right to the point, talking to Americans, the Donald and Canadian's. Stating the facts, what they have done as asked, and how Donald is trying to ruin the country with an illegal attack of unjustified tariffs.
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
I wish I were a Canadian. But then, I have wished that for the last 40 years of my life. Too bad I could never make the point score necessary to emigrate. I am ashamed to live in the US. Trump has to go, by any means.
|

turn the fuckin lights off, we deserve it at this point.

Trudeau already said this nonsense last month. Virtually the same tariffs. Same points. \n\nCanada’s economy is down too and has been for a long time. \nTheir stock market is low. \nTheir RE is too high for its citizens. \n \nThey can’t win a tariff war due to attrition. And Canadians can ban together to not shop American as they been doing already. \nAnd none of you on this platform can do anything about that either. \nY’all can stand with Canada as much as you like. That doesn’t dismiss the fact that their tariffs on America was higher than America’s tariffs on Canada prior to this “tariff war”. \nAlso ya’ll can’t denounce citizenship and migrate over to Canada. Because they will not accelerate their process for citizenship. And will not accept the infinite number of you all.

It's absolutely unfathomable that things have been allowed to escalate to this point. It is obvious that our country is being taken over by Russian agents in the WH. How else can you be so tone deaf to what this stupid tarrif position is going to do to our economy, unemployment people that are not wealthy. These rich people absolutely do not care about us regular people. Our forefathers would be livid to see what has become of our country. MAGAs have been duped with so many lies and exaggerations that have been generated by Russia into the social media consciousness that they have paved the way for a total take over designated to ruin our country. It's happening, and people are so duped ...... it's like a bad movie.
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
Every Democrat was making the point that only the host country pays for the tariffs that it puts on items. Why is Canada upset? If we have to pay the tariffs. And then canada's answer is to what make their own people pay tariffs, that doesn't make any sense. There market is so small that even if they thought they were doing a trade war, their economy will go bottom up in no time.
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
Do what you have to do Canada I'm American mango Mussolini is just stupid!!\n\nHe's a greedy evil racist narcissistic misogynist and blatant liar. Really all the tariffs are is a poor person's text is meant to hurt confused ? and there's no point in that? \n\nFentanyl is no more dangerous or available than any other drug that has ravaged America in the world. If the people don't take it there is no problem no one is forced. Go Canada go God bless.

I canceled our familly trip to US because of risks caused by erratic administration that can decide any dumb thing at any time thus jeopardizing our tour and money. One of our son is deeply disapointed but he understood that risk is way too high right now. We will redirect to a EU member state for better security ? Unless the current administration return to business as usual, there is no point into changing mind for the next four years... Way too risky?

its interesting how people now starting to praise trudeau when before literally bashing him to a point that he had to resign lol, people are weird.
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
Yet Canada hates him right now, Just as much as all of you hate Trump. Trump never said he sided with Russia and I really wish all of you dimwits would donate your personal money, or personally volunteer to step on the front lines. They have no manpower and y'all are idiots to think that it makes sense to give a country backing after they're the ones who threaten to join NATO and clearly most of y'all don't even know that NATO started this bullshit by going against their promises to Russia and they have added eight former Soviet countries to their union. At this point I'm okay with giving half of the US to the libtards So you guys can pay taxes to fund every other country but your own. Yuck.
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
I am very sorry for the damage and suffering that these tariffs and trade wars will cause to people in our two countries, as it is clear that many people are. It is obvious that Donald cares more about himself and his various fantasies than he cares about other people. Unfortunately, he is supported in this by his cabinet, congressional Republicans, and enough ill-intentioned voters to make this our new reality. I hope that there will be a point in the future when life will become friendly again.

The Globalists are playing musical chairs behind the scenes. Private interests, multinational corpoations re-aligning into new factions, Politicians are merely mouthpieces at this point. No worries tho, the meek shall inherit the earth. Let Babylon FALL!!!

Beautiful speech, direct, to the point and no BULLSH**T\nIt looks to me like Trump is moving to have the US no longer as the leader of the democratic world.\nI think the EU is looking to take up the mantle, though maybe a battle with Russia !

I am a canadian and half my family live in the US... we are not enemies but I am not alone in fearing what America is becoming and the direction it is taking in trade , geo politics and governing philosophy. \nthe people behind project 2025 are not rational old conservatives harking back to a by gone era, they are christian fundementalists enacting a plan to bring about the transformation of the US into a full blown christian theocracy. A christian version of the taliban. \nThe vast majority of Americans don't want this and I believe share my fears on the direction of the country... it'll be up to the corporate oligachs to decide how this gets settled and that should scare the crap out of everyone... because they just want chaos to make money, to profit and to self aggrandise and stride on the stage as power merchants ... they could not care less about the American people.\na time is coming that fits the orginal purpose of the second amendment ... let's just hope people are smart enough to know who to point them at...

All countries from this point forward should quit trading with the US in any way whatsoever let them survive on their own let them come up with their own chips let them come up with their own minerals let them come up with everything everybody else deal and trade with one another around the world and just let the states rot
