Since the border is so vast, the method of deterrence has to be based on psychology. If the penalty for crossing the order illegally is horrendous, they will stop attempting to cross. Possible penalties:\n\n1. Automatic 2-10 years hard labor in confinement with no possibility of parole. No possibility of ever entering the US again legally after release, even as a tourist. Conditions of confinement must be necessarily strict and without recreational activities. \n2. Anyone with any sense would see this situation as a terrible breakdown of life in this city. Things have gotten progressively worse over the last four years. The leaders of the city, esp. the City Council president are truly despicable. Ordinary hard-working people, commuters, businessman, children, seniors are all being endangered by this influx of illegals. The CITY voted for Cuomo and then Hochul, the rest of the state did not, but the rest of the state is so rural that the population of the city outvote the entirety of the rest of the state. I used to think Pres. Trump was being too hard on Canada then I got a look at the tariffs they impose on our goods. Some as high as 250%. Trafficked immigrants are forced to work for the gangs or their families back in their home countries will be harmed. Because of sanctuary cities, law enforcement can't go after the gangs so the other illegal immigrants have no recourse.\n\nTLDR: Regulated, legal immigration creates opportunities for both immigrants and the host country.
