I am a skilled worker (an engineer), I graduated from a master's in Germany and speak fluent german. Housing is one of the negative points I can mention. Another one is the waiting times for a document work at Ausländerbehörde. Here in Stuttgart it is the worst as far as I see. \nAnother thing I dont like is to pay so much to the health insurance and at the end you even cannot get an appointment when you have a tooth ache for instance. \nAnother rather cultural difficulty is that you cannot find a place in the society, Germans do not make friends and when you only make friends with expats then it does not feel you are a part of the society. At least from my understanding.\n\nPositively enough, I have not yet faced racism in my daily life etc. \n\nI would be thinking to leave Germany one day maybe, but for another german speaking country probably.

Germany is dying

Germany is very racist and the German media is always trying to demonize foreigners taxes are very high. If you are skilled go to Gulf countries or canada etc

The policy matters less, the ausländeramt matters way more. They are the first contact for immigrants but their inefficiency and unfriendly manner scare many off. I’ve been waiting 2 years just for a PR application, I called, phoned, emailed but no answers at all, now my current visa is expiring and I feel hopeless. The simple “Lebens in Deutschland” test takes more than 8 weeks to evaluate which makes no sense. When I lived in Australia, their immigration office offers more than 20 languages and everything’s online and easy to contact, I got my visa within 48 hours. Germany is too lagging behind, if they don’t upgrade the system and attitude, it doesn’t matter what the policy is.

But language barrier and mass layoffs(example: Lilium GmbH) and because of bureaucracy everyone leave Germany soon or later when they financially settled well.

Netherlands is better than Germany

I live in germany and grew up here. I know racism since school. Even I have a German passport and speak fluently german, I will still be an immigrant for them. I have problems to find a good job. They always choose germans with blond hair and blue eyes over me. We immigrants know that they treat us differently. As always. I want to move away from this country.

It wants skilled and experienced workers but you need to be Fluent in German LOL,,,,, like in Day 1,, instead of saying wanting to have skilled worker, why can't they just say, they want German speaking Workers- doesn't matter if your skilled or experienced LOL. Yes German is a must and fluency is developed in Time like 5 years minimum, while Hard skills such as Computer Programming, backing, Automotive mechanics, etc can be done on day 1 for most experienced job seekers in Germany.

Germany is no longer having shortage of skilled workers. Recently many big companies have fired thousands of workers because of losses in their respective business (Can be googled). Be careful if you are planning to go to Germany for work. You might end up mending streets or cleaning toilets or working as a nurse for old people. Because these are the jobs, which nobody wants to do in Germany.

My husband and I are engineers from the US and Mexico and have lived in Germany for 15 years. Both speak fluent German and have raised three kids here. Yes, many people are racist. But if you learn the language well it’s not that hard to integrate and then things get much better. Germans can be the best friends you’ve ever had, much better than superficial Americans, but it can be hard to break through the shell. We have always loved it here. But to be honest with the steadily declining economy, massive scarcity in housing, and no salary increases in years, we are considering leaving as well. The outlook isn’t good for the Automotive industry and we could make double or triple the salary elsewhere. It would be very difficult to pull up our roots now gs better get better quick or we won’t stay much longer.

Its quite confusing to me that there are surprised that they have to learn german... when they migrate to germany.

I have 15 years experience at mainframe and currently working for a big bank in Australia. I’m looking to move to Germany as my in laws family are living there. I have had no luck at job application for roles that is literally written for me. The 2 months on the role is still open.

It’s interesting how politically charge anti-immigrant sentiment is blurring the lines between legal and illegal immigration and tend to showcase ethnic minorities. I wouldn’t be too surprised that the issue eventually becomes so overblown to include all visible minorities whom might be American-born yet targeted by the have-nots in white-America. Where wil they be housed? Germany talks of needing Foreign Skilled Professionals. Where are the homes? The Country has acute shortage of Homes, something many people don't discuss. Not enough school places for immigrant with families, hostile bureaucracy & hostility from the Population towards immigrants. All these still adds up to worsen the toxic work place . Germany needs immigrants but doesn't want them.

Great video. I grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA in the 50s and 60s. Life was absolutely idyllic. I loved being young in America. Now, I cannot recognize my home town. I cannot recognize my country. I cannot recognize our political system. It's like the worst of humanity has taken over the country. But, it's everywhere - Germany, Sweden, the UK, the USA, Canada - they're gone. WTF happened?

Germany needs affordable energy.

I live in Germany for about 6 years, moving from Bosnia and didnt have any of those problems mentioned, excluding the bureaucratic hurdels. Granted, i do speak German natively since ive spent my early childhood years here. To be fair i do think that learning the language of the nation you are moving to as fluently as possible should be a no brainer.\nWhat people arround the world need to understand is that European countries are NOT the USA. These are nations that exist for thousands of years with clear cultural parameters born out of centuries of strugle, war and hardship. These are strongly embeded into the minds of the people living here. The jist of it is that Europeans have known this for a long time, literally knowing ´´what the others are like´´. So its much easier to adapt. Of course it helps that most European countries have simmilar religious and social values.

Salaries in Germany sucks, and cost of living are for instance higher than in Poland. In IT you earn exactly the same, as nurse it also could be more competitive to earn in Poland. And polish people don’t expect you to speak German, even in general less people in Poland speak English it is enough for imigrant to speak English

10 years ago I had been called by my company to work in Germany. First discrimination I had was when a government worker told me in english that she does not speak english and if I want anything I should get a translator or learn german! Since then I have been many times facing similar discrimination even after I learned the language. The sacrifice I make is for my children as I want them to have opportunities for higher education and a larger spectrum of careers. One thing I must ask germans: ist es so schwer anderen zu helfen, ohne sie herabzusetzen?

Germany can provide you with a very basic and safe life, but if you want to create a family, buy a house and build up a career, youre definitely at the wrong place. They will lay every possible stone in your way, to make sure you stay at the bottom.

Currently Poland or germany are the best the cheapest countries on the earth in relation to income.

History repeating itself. In the early days of the Third Reich, there were actually Jews who supported the Nazis. They thought that because their family had been in Germany for generations they were safe...that they were part of the establishment. They were wrong.

I came in Germany five years ago, learned the language perfectly, finished my Masters after dealing with unbelievable stress with Ausländeramt, got a job finally in a IT field, will receive my unlimited residence soon, and im looking forward to live in another country in Europe or in the world. Beyond good and evil, Germany (neither the state nor the people) will not reward you as an immigrant even if you do your best.

I have been working in Germany for a year. I have a Masters degree from the USA and I have a disability. I actually got hired immediately and I am “richer” here than I was in the USA.
