Maritimer here: I remember going to a small town in Maine for my cousin's funeral a few years back (half my family is American), and when we were checking-in at the hotel, there was a couple taking their suitcases out of the trunk of their car. The man had a handgun tucked in the back of his pants, and I remember the feeling I got seeing it when he bent over. It was pure Fear. In my mind, this man could kill me or my family in an instance if he wanted to. To me, that was the scariest thought, it felt so wrong that it was normal to carry a weapon. \n\nMind you, we have guns in Canada, they are mainly used for hunting or gun ranges, and you need a licence, which you need to pass a test if you want to go hunting with it. I guess growing up in Canada made me think that guns are dangerous and should be kept away from people... so hearing about the children's safety concerns around guns.. is probably because to us, guns out in the public is inconceivable... even worse around children. \n\nWhen there's a shooting in Canada, it's not a feeling that is reserved for the town or city where it happened. The country in its entirety mourns, it becomes Our issue. Anyways, I know my response is months late, but I felt compelled to share. :P

You can delete my post or you can except the truth.\nI've been too & have friend & colleagues who have migrated to Toronto from Sydney. Toronto is very similar to Sydney. It has some of the most exspensive housing in the world. Canada & Australia's economy is based on economic growth through mass immigration. The cost of this policy, means you also need to restrict development & zoning regulations to artificially keep properties high. Governments need make your population continually, working as slaves, to pay for basic costs, of a largely welfare dependent society. While your a debt slave, you don't spend your money on foreign products, as you have very little in the way of exsports, to pay for imports. The upside to this, you have many slaves to pay for the never ending welfare, as you have a policy of supporting refugees, single parents & the disabled, over self reliance & responsibility. Mental health issues are largly created by society, they are very rarely genetic. The high cost of living, means, you cant afford families. No strong family ties means, poor mental health issues. When you outsource, what familes once did, like help the the elderly, support your unemployed brother & have children. Replace all what families did with government welfare, instead of families helping each other, replace reproduction with mass immigration. You end up creating enormous problems in society. Problems with mental health & crime.\nNow for your modelling career. In Japan, your a novelty, as you have a different look to the Japanese. However in Canada, for your age what are your best features. You only have one. You have very good skin. However your face shape, is slightly disproportionate, basically, meaning your just an average shape face. You could also work on going to the gym, as your not toned. So basically as a whole, for your age group, your slightly above average, say a 6 out of 10, which is not all that good as 60% of Canada's population are overweight. Now as a model, you need to compete with people who are younger & better proportioned 7,8 & 9's. No such thing as a 10.

The American people I just as responsible this if anybody. Because the majority of the people have not fiercely demanded, angrily protested for illegal immigration to stop. The way to help the homeless people \n\nCanadian people every year welcomed thousand refugees from abroad, and supported them with generous resources to settle down their lives in Canada. There’s no doubt Canadian would do same things to the homeless people in our society, but the same things are not needed by our homeless people.\n\nAs most us know, most our homeless people with mental illnesses and hard bad addictions. They are not capable to make right choices for themselves. But it’s not safe and right for making choices for our homeless people even with our good intentions. As in the past happened so many governments and metal health institutions abused their power over the venerable people.\n\nThe key is the whole country specially the federal government should determined with provincial and municipal governments and many social groups to solve the problems together. To provide the nice, attractive, safe environment places for the homeless people. It would cost more than supporting the refugees and without returning, the refugees after settling would pay back as tax payers. But it would cost much less than mental health institutions, prisons and the damages they cost to the communities. And providing better environment for the people, businesses and communities where the homeless people live now. Most importantly it is our responsibility for the homeless people and the communities where they live.

Many immigrants find the first few years difficult because of the job ethics. The job ethics here in Canada is quite different from Nigerian with a laidback background. In Canada you work for every cent and it has really worked for them and some of us. I have employed so many Africans especially Nigerians who thought I am mean because they have to work for every penny. You are not paid to come and have a chitchat at work or spend 5 hours on something that could take you 3 hours to do. I will say if you can't change your work ethics and try to integrate into the Canadian system please stay back in your country. I have also seen people who have been clouded with that high life they lived back home and find it difficult to Start at the bottom. Even if you are living a good life in Nigeria, Canada is a better place to live if you can unlearn some things and relearn other things.\nAnd is there systemic racism? The answer is YES. If our leaders treat us right, 80 percent of our people won't leave their country. Let's hold our government responsible not the north American government or their people.

I don't have any issues with Sikhs, but I'm aligned with them not getting allowed to carry kirpans in public places. Age is an important factor while considering immigration. For folks less than 30, Canada will offer you a great opportunity if you are focus and knows how to develop your skills or career. For Folks that have worked the better part of their lives in their home country, say from age 40, DO NOT sell all you have worked for back home and bring the money to Canada, the system here is designed to swallow all that money in a short time. For these group of people do not immigrate because you want a better life for your children, but your primary focus will be what can I do in a short possible time that can earn you money to survive this economy. Housing is the most important factor and do a lot of research on where to settle that will fit your income and provide better job. Also make sure you are re-trainable. Be prepared and that includes all members of your family. Wife and husband and all their adult children must be ready to hit the ground running and find whatever job within a short possible time. Paying bills become a less burden if all members of the family are contributing their own share. It is not like back home where the man is the brad winner and takes care of others responsibilities.

Great documentary, but in my opinion, it's terribly one-sided, portraying these colleges as villains and the students as poor, innocent victims. As a former international student from India myself, who had the privilege of attending a prestigious university in the UK, working there, and moving on, the workings of this situation are as clear as daylight and as old as the hills. \nIt wasn't any different back then in the UK 20 years ago, during the heady Blair days, when UK colleges significantly increased their intake of international students, aided by a lax visa regime. This was also in response to tighter visa restrictions in the US following 9/11. Students enrolling in such colleges, as well as the parents funding them, are well aware that these are degree mills. The sole aim here is to somehow navigate through college and stay long enough until permanent residency comes through. \nTears flow and protests erupt only when this unspoken but clearly understood agreement is broken, often with the media conveniently at hand. The reasons driving this insatiable urge are multifarious, but poverty and lack of opportunities in the country (in this case, India) do not really rank high on the list. Social prestige and an imagined better life in the 'West' certainly do, particularly among young people from states like Punjab, Haryana, and parts of Gujarat. \nNothing about this is illegal, and not to sound cynical, these are market forces at work. However, in my view, this represents a more accurate truth. It would be great to see Fifth Estate also report from this side

The problem with Canada? Too much socialism, regulation and taxation.\nAs the government fails at socialism (as all governments do) , they start to spend more, getting increasingly greedy for people's money. I am a Canadian and lived in the US from 1980-1992. I was a teenager and I enjoyed all the places I lived there. Mass shootings were not yet common though we did have a disgruntled employee with a gun on campus during my time in college. No one was actually shot.(This was in a very small town.) I did not get sick in the US. I have lived in Canada since then and enjoy it here too. I enjoy not having poisonous animals in the area where I live. I don't like the winters, and every winter I wish we could re-draw the border and make it go north and south! I have used the medical system up here and have been very thankful for it. The past couple of years with covid I have been especially glad to be in Canada because I preferred our response to the situation over that of the US. Most of the people in my workplace were not happy about it though and I believe 2 or 3 families actually moved to the US once the border re-opened. They like the feeling of having less governmental control in the US.

I’m a Canadian myself, and it’s very interesting to see your reaction to Canadian’s response to that question. I think what you said about being desensitizing is true, I think because the gun violence, the crazy politics, and the attacks on women’s and minority rights, these are things that have become so common in the US that American started to see these things as “normal”. And to a lot of Canadians, these are our core values. A lot of us are proud that we don’t have that (serious of) these issues here, so I am not surprised in any sense that majority if not all of those people in that subreddit said no.\n\nI used to travel to the US for a living, and I actually asked to change my job so I don’t have to do that anymore. I didn’t feel safe, I didn’t feel good when I travel there. You mentioned it’s depending on the cities, and you might be right, but I can tell you I have met A LOT of very crazy people during my years of travels, and they are all friend very different places: the east, the south, the west, big and small cities.

I’m a bit late to this discussion but I agree with the 99.9% of other responses. Although, I have enjoyed trips to beautiful areas of the US, & live close to the border where a day trip was a common occurrence. I now hesitate to even travel there as I do worry about gun violence, racism & honestly cannot understand the cult of followers who would even consider voting for an incompetent, narcissistic criminal to lead their country…. it’s mind blowing! You are desensitized regarding violence/school shootings… choose where you live? What’s the guarantee that this couldn’t happen anywhere in the US, even rural areas? On the topic of living in Canada, it’s beautiful with lots of country to see/enjoy from west coast to the east coast & we have healthcare, a government (although not perfect) elected by & working for the people. People travel with different mood swings and mindsets. Also with loss, emergency, fear and sitting for a long time in discomfort, and traveling with strangers next to them like that... Adding fuel to the fire someone (a child) kicking them from the back seat is too much. Parents should take responsibility to help their children learn to sit properly on the flight without creating any trouble for the co-passengers.

So you came to Canada to reach your dreams… and now you want to go home. So Canada was able to support you in attaining your dreams. So does that mean the country you left didn’t give you the same opportunities? And people leave because the passport is so solid… so basically you are using the country to elevate yourself and to prosper yet you can not find the grace to understand and accept that all countries have issues and yet some are still better than most… Canada would be one of those countries. Your ingratitude is not healthy and perhaps you might stick around long enough to make the changes that you feel would make Canada a better country for all. If you are indeed a Canadian then this is your country too… so take some responsibility and help to make it better. Complaining is not the answer. \nOh btw … your work/life balance is your responsibility. Perhaps a change in consuming habits and setting priorities will help? I am Australian. I think you will find this to the common response globally. I would not move to the U.S. if they paid me to for all the reasons already mentioned. I feel sorry for people who live in the U.S. I couldn't imagine having to worry if my children will come home from school or not today. I am a 58 yr old male and I am totally against the government telling a woman what she can and can't do with her body. I could not live in a place where some fellow citizens were bankrupt because they got cancer. All U.S citizens are welcome to move to Australia, just slow down and turn the volume down a bit.

Was an absolute NO for me most of my life until Justin Trudeau came along and if the opportunity presented itself I would of jumped on it until Biden but if it came down to it I think I would move to USA. People here think the health care is great but it's not and it's getting worse and I've seen the care deteriorate over the decades. If you want true medical care you pay a private health practitioner. I actually like that Americans have the right to defend themselves and carry a firearm. Canadians today have been so gaslighted and I think that is the reason for a lot of the negative responses because when winter hits they flock in droves to the US.

So a lot came up about guns in the USA. I am Canadian, and I own firearms (and have my restricted licence), I love firearms, YET all responsible gun owners know someone who should not be allowed to own a gun who has one! And we have strict gun laws here, training and safety, and NO way would I want it made much easier for the people who should not own one to get one like the states!

I think the best reasons for people to want to live in Canada is for the safety. Laws of no violence and no weapons in public. Our rapid response of Police, Fire and medical (there are bills for the Ambulance and Fire response so we do get billed at times, which also can be brought to our judicial system and potentially the bill can be dropped). \nAll across the world people need safety for their families and Canada takes refugees in large quantities. Refugee families are given a sponsored house, vehicle, paid for bills (including medical and educational) and a paid food allowance to live in until they stabilize themselves with full time work and when they are ready they can make room for other refugee families in need. \nWe have a huge area of land that is underdeveloped and there are plenty of opportunities for work in the infrastructure field. \nCanada is known across the world to host friendliness amongst its free citizens. \nAlso we aid any country in need and are the first country to respond to any natural disaster world wide. \nWe have our flaws but we feel safe and cared for with those flaws.

Hey Tyler...ask the question in reverse...see how many Americans would move to Canada....and I have a question for you, Why should I have to make a choice where I live, directly in response to gun violence and mass shootings, lousy uber expensive health care , discrimination, racism, bigotry, and hatred?...like I said in my 1st post, I lived in Cali. and Arkansas in the mid 80's, as different as environments can be...yet all of the same issues, just some more pronounced than others ( surprisingly, I saw and HEARD a lot more racism in Southern California than I did in Arkansas)....but now, in the 21st Century, the fact that politicians are actively trying (and in a lot of cases succeeding) to return the U.S. to the 1900 ( taking the vote away from minorities, especially blacks and native Americans), making women bend the knee to what men say and want them to do ( the reversal of Roe v Wade, 100% total bans on reproductive rights, and the restrictive, totalitarian, Nazi/fascist bans on the rights to choose who you want to be, how you want to be addressed, LGBTQ people and lifestyles) when I see this, hear the right-wing racist, elitist,MAGA, B.S., I wonder how ANY people in their right minds could want to live in 2023 America, the Land of the Lost !

Most of these responses seemed to be from left-leaning people in Canada. British Columbia is NDP, socialist leaning, in other words. I'm from Alberta. We recently had an election here and made it abundantly clear we do not want the NDP running our province. We have a gun culture here and won't give up our arms. I didn't read one mention of the PM in Canada. Yet, walk around and all you hear about is the hatred people have of him and the division he has caused. The leader of the NDP sides with him. I actually have dual citizenship, so harbor no bad feelings to the US. I just don't go where there are a lot of left-leaning Dems/Liberals. Alberta to Texas is almost like not leaving Alberta, just going to the ranch down the way and visiting family.

Really unfortunate timing that Justin decided to read his ugly narcissistic larp for the last 8 years, my family has felt the effects and it will take millions of people making responsible sacrifices for the next decade to unfuck this country.

Lack of affordable housing -- lack of housing in general -- is the main reason people already living here are being priced out and why so many refugees and immigrants cannot afford the cost when they move here. When these people come to Canada for a better life and/or to escape the suffering that they were living in, they cannot bring their homes with them. It is the government's responsibility at all levels to ensure that these newcomers have a place to go when they come here. A homeless shelter should not be the answer. Buy up office spaces and convert them (if safe to do so with whatever codes need to be met) into affordable housing units. For years we've been seeing hundreds of news articles about vacancies in office buildings being at all time highs, yet only a handful of them are being converted. 500,000 people a year entering a country where there isn't enough housing for them (let alone the people living here already) is irresponsible on the government's part. If this is your pledge, at least give these people a better life and not send them to shelters or onto the streets as soon as they arrive. If Canada is to truly be a safe haven for immigrants and refugees escaping their hardships, it's paramount that the government does what it can to make these people actually feel like their life will change for the better. I'm all for immigration since it helps the economy and knowing that Canada can put people in a better position for themselves and their families, but it's the lack of preparation from the governments that makes me question their pledge in this way.

We need to help Americans. Period. These people aren't our problem. They're just going to come gather up enough free stuff and go home rich. Make them go back to their country and take responsibility for changing things there.

All these reasonings are pretty tame ngl. It's just 1st world problems after 1st world problems. Even the speed limit thing. There's nothing wrong with 50 even if it should be 70. You know, I agree on that, that there are times when the road is so empty I want to go past the speed limit. But the thing is, that's just a luxury. I can stay on 50 and I'll lose at most 2 minutes on a 20 minute drive. Boo hoo.\n\nBut hey, you seem to like your new place a lot, so good for you. That's all that really matters. You think that people should be allowed to drink beer outside, but you only say that because you don't know what it was like when people drank beer outside. There's a reason that rule was made and it's because people aren't responsible to hold their own in that part of Canada that you lived in. And the part of Europe you're living in can have beer outside because they can hold their own and not get in trouble.\n\nRules don't just get made up, remember that. They're made because something happened to make that rule.

To keep them from paying their fair share in taxes. Education, infrastructure, investment, they do none of it they do not participate in our democracy they are all participating in socialism for the rich and mass greed. We can't afford a roof over our heads. We can't afford healthcare. We can't afford school. The rich are taking all of our money and lining their pockets, the corporstions pockets, the military complex, the police depts. Republicans and corporate dems have been rerouting our tax money away from public education and towards private charter rich people schools for the last 30 years. Our country is in trouble. Rich people are playing monopoly ruining our economy and our society.

Well canadian govt is responsible for all this mess, politics bringing people with no proper background check. The reason is very simple there is more crime more unrest this i have never seen in Canada. Canadian govt should do something. Why not we bring more educated professionals, scientists, doctors, engineers, skilled people.\nThanks to CBC to come out with gacts but there is so much nonsense happening need to come out in the public, in the disguise of students so many criminals are coming who are danger to our society our children families.

Start being more discriminatory as a group yourselves. Don't seek these people out anymore in attempts to be friendly, fit in or whatever. Until they have proven themselves to be friend and not foe, Don't Engage. Stick up for yourselves. Be prepared with your own retorts in response to their racial slurs. You will find that a lot of them can dish it out but they can't take it.

Biden and the democrats are responsible for all of the human trafficking, people murdered, sexually assaulted, killed and assaulted due to his policies regarding illegal immigration. Should of built the wall and allowed them to come in legally through proper channel to ensure Americans safety. All smoke and mirrors they just went down the street and crossed.

Discrimination operates in all directions. Channels and messages like these don’t help with the situation. I can understand why people of European descent are upset as they are being targeted and blamed for all the world’s evils. There is a point where enough is enough and people just need to stop blaming others for their own failures and take some personal responsibility. Fact is in North America, no one wants to look inwards and see their own failures, but rather look out wards to another group of people and blame them. I am so sick of this culture of racism and victim mentality.

⁠ it is not our responsibility to take care of these immigrants. They need to fix the issues in their own country before coming here to cause more issues in our country. These immigrants take jobs, they take housing, they take food, and 90% of them don’t pay a dime in taxes. That is unacceptable. I feel more compassion for my people who are struggling then people trying to illegally cross our borders.

This is going to continue to happen if Joe Biden stays in office. Sad but true.. this is America we need to take care of our own. We are not responsible for another country or the people.. we need to take care of our vets, homeless, elderly, and etc.. Trump 2024.
