I was moving back to Edmonton in October 2023 and the vacancy rate was 0.0001% the apartment I got, if i did not take it (the area is so rough) I would have had to stay with a friend and hoped and prayed that in November more people were moving so something else could/would become available. \n\nThen I talked to everyone in this building. In the past 2 years - I have spent 3 months in Toronto, and last year, 3 months in Montreal...and it is like the Tale of Two Cities! In Toronto, I stayed at a friend's off the park that abuts Queens St, and Dundas St. on the far side. I barely got a good night's sleep - from the constant wailing of Sirens at ALL Hours of the night/early morning! I witnessed several incidents of random violence - including on the trolly cars, and many of them involving homeless Indigenous people ...who were historically shit-on by Canada! In comparison to US Cities - Toronto minded me of problem-plagued SF, Seattle, and Portland. The Density factor reminded me of NYC, minus the Positive Street savvy that New Yorkers have in spades! I did meet some very nice people, but overall - Torontonians were uptight, concerned about money all the time, and sometimes - just downright rude! Fast-Forward to Montreal. I stayed in Le Plateau...renting a room for 3 months. Lovely House-mates - One Turkish/Polish Woman, and an Iranian Man - both were quirky, and Delightful! My rent was very decent, and my Host showed me all the affordable places to eat, swim for free, free Yoga in the parks...within 2 days, I felt at Home! It was 3 days before I even noticed a siren! Drivers stoped for pedestrians, and as it was summer - the bike-lanes were full of bike riders! The Green Spaces were plentiful, and Parc Mount Royal is a Terrestrial Paradise! Were there some social issues? - of Course! French being the official language, the Quebecois are a VERY Proud, and defiant lot! That was difficult at first, and then...learning some history of Quebec, you begin to understand their irascible defenses! There was some homelessness (a Fraction of what I see in the US, and Toronto!), and prices are creeping-up (the common complaint!), and there was a lot of construction, and road repairs - as Quebec is NOT a wealthy part of Canada, overall. In short - I miss Montreal DEEPLY! Toronto? - I have a good friend there, and I hope to see a few of the folks I met there, Again. Travel Impressions are mainly subjective, but I know where my heart, and affection lie!

I wouldn't say my friends, but friend of friends also left Canada recently. Even earning 130k per year still left them a bit uncertain, having 2 kids, in the end of the month not so much is left, and when they looking on house prices they understand that they could afford one not even in foreseeable future

I really feel for students who are scammed. But being an international students myself, and as a young adult, I did my research on the rent, job market, living costs of the city I was going to: Vancouver. I knew it wasnt gonna be easy from the get go, I struggled but dedicated to school and to my part time job. My personal experience was that most of these students do not focus on their assignments and rely on others to do their part. It was 10x more stressful and, sadly, my strategy to survive (and my friends’) school was to avoid doing school projects with students from one particular country. And worst yet, professors would turn a blind eye to this systemic situation cause I guess everyone was paying their tuition fees.

It is not environmentally friendly to migrate to a cold country. This is because a person needs more fuel to survive (eg heating from minus 30 to 25 degrees needs far more energy than cooling from 50 degrees to 20 degrees. Also: in such hot countries, one can make use of sunshine to use cooling devices; but one cannot create heat from cold... Such migration to cold nations must come with a global tax..

I understand most of your reasons but if you don’t think there are no LGBTQ Muslims in Muslim places in the world too you are kidding yourself! You are preaching tolerance but your actions in this respect say otherwise. Queer people are about 1/10 around the world whether closeted because they fear your attitude or not. One day, a neighbour of yours or a friend or a relative will either avoid you or come out to you; then what will you do? You claim your hearts are open but they are not. Good Luck and Bon Voyage??

You say there is no Islamic environment in Canada. There are more than 50 Muslim countries in the world. You need to go and live in one of them. Better yet, take all your Muslim friends with you.

Grew up in Toronto in the 70s. It was lush with trees and flowers. Tons of rabbits, foxes, raccoons and squirrels roamed the streets. It was safe, quiet, clean, friendly, and when I went to uni, I lived in a 4 bedroom Georgian house I shared with 4 friends. I left in the 90s, and recently returned. Horrible! Little greenery, tons of ugly condo high rises everywhere. No one talks to anyone anymore. So sad.

I'm an immigrant and my immigrant friends and I were talking about exactly this just the other day. I'd like to add some context on why so few international students stay: they can't. Schools prey on this very fact. In international recruiting, these schools use the promise of thriving local industries and trot out graduates working locally as major draws to these expensive programs. Then once students are in Canada, many of these schools couldn't care less: they offer little or sometimes no housing support, no immigration advice (or in my case and many of my friends' cases: they give straight-up false immigration advice that can screw you over or even get you in trouble). There absolutely needs to be regulation and accountability for these predatory schools; I think a good starting point would be capping the number of visas they can apply for based on the number of housing units available (either on-campus or via local development subsidy and homestays). Tons of students come to Canada completely unprepared due to false promises made by these schools, and then get spit out into an egregiously inefficient and broken work visa system.\nMy immigrant friends and I are all highly skilled in our specific field. There are only a handful of people in the world (let alone in Canada) who can do what I do at the level I do it, so I would be incredibly difficult to replace if I left Canada. Despite that, and despite being Canadian-educated (Canadian resources invested in me that you'd want to keep in Canada), remaining in Canada has been a massive struggle for me and my friends. We individually spend hundreds and even thousands of dollars every year to apply for permits that have to be renewed annually, but take the government 6+ months to process. Because the government is so backed up, we have to apply for *extra* permits to bridge that gap (more money, and more work added to IRCC's already-long line of applications). I'm in limbo for the majority of the year where I can't switch employers, can't leave the country, etc. It's horrible. \nBut I have it better than most. Of the international students in my year, only I and one other student are still in Canada because the transition to work permits is so needlessly long and difficult. Even a graduate who does manage to get a work permit might have to sit unemployed for 6 months or more before that permit is active. How is a student supposed to survive without work for that long? In order for employers to even apply to sponsor a graduate, they often have to do a lengthy labor market impact assessment, and so these graduates are stuck in a holding pattern, and they're the lucky ones. Immigration is absolutely vital to Canada and I hate how quickly these stories turn to xenophobic rhetoric, but we have to make space in the conversation to take a look at how schools are exploiting students and policy loopholes, and why they're doing it, and address those problems. The current system isn't fair to anyone.

We’ve been here since more than a year now and we don’t have a car and we love the pollution free air here and the work life balance. If you live downtown, you don’t need a car as public transport is very convenient. If you don’t want to do things on your own and you definitely need the help from maids and so on, then Canada isn’t for you. It all depends on where you find a house. Very few people in downtown own cars. If you want to live a healthier life, Canada is a good place for that. We came in winters and settled with the help of relatives and thankfully it’s been good so far. Summers are amazing here. Job market is a struggle currently but it’s not permanent. And it is possible to find a job from India if you try for it. If you’re in IT, you don’t need to start from scratch. There are Indian stores almost everywhere and many Indian restaurants as well. You just need to find your place. And it’s an amazing place for plant based vegan people. Food quality is amazing and great safety restrictions. Healthcare also depends on where you live. If you find your people and friends and keep socializing with family, loneliness won’t be there. It’s better to move to a new country when you don’t have kids. \nAlso the accent gradually develops and there’s nothing to worry about. This place is very diverse and there are people with very different accents from all around the world. There is some struggle initially but it all depends on what your priorities are. Life here is very comfortable once you get used to the lifestyle here and the biggest thing is, work life balance and the quality of life. If you want to do things other than your job, this is a good place to do that. Kids also become much more independent here. Rest it all depends on what your goals in life are. Also one of the biggest factors is, if your partner/husband isn’t willing to help with housework or cooking, you can’t survive here. As simple as that. Many factors to consider.

The only thing I agreed with you is the price of housing in large cities. Canada is still a great country if one is willing to work. I maybe living in a cocoon, all my friends and my children’s friends are doing ok with their jobs and finances. The really uneducated and uninspired would suffered just like in any other country. As a canadian i never thoughg of living anywhere else vanxouver is so beautiful. Growing up govrnmebt started cutting programs and services in schools ans public resources. We use to be able to go to the beach on a weekday in spring and there was no one. Now its packes. To get to the bathroom was almost a block long. The bathrooms are small. Goos for population we has in the early 90s. We need somethings 4x larger now. \n\nIm ok with new comers but if they create a new community in the rural areas. We have so many areas up north no one moves to.\n\nOr lots of space to build new communities up north, not deatroy the current communities that already exist. \n\nWith all the new apartments there is not enough space for cara, no parking and no room on public transportation.\n\nSimply, the city cannot support anymore people. Its unrealistic. \nI worked with a girk who shares a 1 bedroom apartment with 5 other people and she still paid 1500 a month for rent.\n\nThis will soon be like america - run down, extreme poverty & homelessness. I am an American of Quebec descent. My pepere came to the US in 1900.Growing up French-Canadien lets me say that while Canadians as a whole may be friendly, Quebecquois are definitely not. Your workplace will be toxic, you'll work long hours for a boss that treats you like crap and pays you less than you're worth. You'll be underpaid, and not valued or appreciated. You'll wake up in the dark to go to work in the freezing cold and come home in the dark, in the freezing cold. You'll live in an expensive tiny box in the sky with disrespectful neighbours (and their barking dogs). The 'unhoused' and addicts will hang outside of your building, begging you for money and smoking crack/weed. The stench of urine and poop on a hot summer's day (the 3 months of it that there is) will make you want to heave.\n\nAnyone thinking of moving to Toronto should seriously think twice and do LOTS of research. There are so many BETTER cities in the world - choose wisely. Don't choose Canada.

This is a good example of what differentiates a Canadian from a person who holds Canadian citizenship. Not that you're wrong about the state of our morally bankrupt secular culture and government, but that's something that I'm going to fight against. I'm not going to run away, because this is my country that my ancestors spilled their blood for, and it's still worth fighting for, at least to me. I and every other Canadian have no other home to flee to. As far as Canada not being Muslim-friendly enough, why should it be. This is a Christian country founded on Christian morality and Christian-based law. I appreciate the way you present the reality. One way to cope with salaries and taxes is to open you own enterprise. This is the canadian way of growing fron a wealth point of view. As a person leaving from a salary, it is still possible to grow depending on your skills. But beggining your own business to exploit your skills will make you 'fly' to the next level, which is the actual way of growing. It took me a lot of years to realice this. Just think about it, provinces allow medecins to incorporate what means that they will pay less taxes and become richer sooner. I visit Canada regularly since the late 90th. I saw a steady decline in the last years. Get rid of Trudeau and his bad politics. The sad thing is that this happens to many western countries. Currently I live in Germany. The loss of wealth and confidence due to damage done to the economy by the current government is mind blowing. People are angry. Canadian born here.. Yes, this country has become difficult for everyone except the Rich and the very Poor. Many of my Canadian born friends have nothing after years of work. Unless you've bought real estate 10 yrs ago, you're Fd.. No one can afford to live here.

As a westerner (Australian) I have lived in 4 different Islamic countries in one of those countries although they were devout muslims they were welcoming and friendly. That country was Oman the other countries I wont name but I will say that at no time did I ever feel completely welcome or safe. There were definately people in all them who were tolerant of westerners but there were plenty more who were not. Oman is a wonderful country its full of history including the Arab wotlds oldest Souk located in Muscat and as a bonus its only a 2 hour drive over to Dubai and the Emirates it does get quite hot in summer but for us it was a nice place to live.

Bro it's impossible to make friends here. For context, Im IndoCanadian, born in Vancouver, and whichever friends one makes from grade school are the only ones that stay. Now, within my situation, I've noticed people who are not IndoCanadian are hesitant to talk with IndoCanadians because of the influx of Indian people from India, which most of whom do not speak fluent English. Its hard to differentiate between IndoCanadians who were born here with Indians who have arrived recently. Which means people are hesitant to talk with IndoCanadians since it's assumed that we do not speak fluent English/live with foreign etiquette. But whatever ?.
