Just curious why so many support Canada as Americans? If you look at the spending and trade throughout the world, America and Americans have been footing the bill for a long time. What exactly is wrong with America putting America first and getting a fair deal with the rest of the world we do business with? It's our taxpayer dollars that fund this and we have been overpaying for decades now. Honest question.

I’m still lost at how Trump supporters rationalize this mess… like for the self proclaimed “patriots” they really know how to spit on the constitution, the sacrifices of our ancestors during the revolution all the way through the Cold War. Since we here in the USA created this mess and can't seem to deal with the orange buffoon and his narcissistic nonsense, I think it is up to Canada and Mexico and Europe to try reigning him in somehow. I don't think they can succeed, but we can hope. We're barely 6 weeks into this. It's going to be a long 4 years.

Maybe he should discuss the constant duty fees and border crossing fees for anything shipped from Canada to the USA that have been constantly rising for years; fees that his very own government sets. Maybe he should talk about Canada demanding that anyone that sells anything foodwise to anyone in Canada from the USA has to have a special Safe Food For Canadians Food License or the goods being shipped will be rejected at the US owners cost, seized by the border and held in storage at the US owners cost, and destroyed and billed to the US owner. A license that no one actually needs considering other legal and ethical controls are in place to prevent unsafe foods from crossing the border, but Canada reserves the right to make us pay for one or we suffer consequences. Maybe he should discuss how they left their borders open to migrants, making it much easier for criminal migrants to get into the US. Maybe he should understand that the US has always been bleeding money to Canada on a trade level for about half a century with it getting much worse in the last decade because Canada's government are greedy. Before any of you come at me, keep in mind I work in the food ingredient industry as an order processing, logistics and customs & border crossing and have done so for 15 years. These tariffs were a long time coming and if any of you are on the inside of trade in the manner I am, then you know what I'm saying is true. The US is constantly paying additional tariffs by way of duty fees, customs fees, certain applied taxes (like there is literally a blueberry tax to ship US grown blueberries into Canada to prevent US blueberries from taking over the Canadian blueberry market). The blueberry tax is about 25cents per lb. which drives the price per lb. up for the seller and buyer. You wanna know why Food costs so much? All of the above with a huge side helping of GREED.

The Trump-Musk-Vance triumvirate is stabbing all of America’s allies, except war criminal B. Netanyahu, and supporting long-time US challenger Putin.\n\nMake sense of that. This is all destroying America’s international capacities and only growing the strength Europeans’ ennemies.

These tariffs will pass. But the distrust that Trump has fomented will take years to overcome, long after Trump leaves office.

It’s business. Stop crying and get used to it. It’s time the US put up with short term pain for long term gain. VAT is in effect the same as a Tariff.

Trump should be impeached for failing to act in the best interest of America. How long will we wait? Will we wait until we have bread lines and gas lines? Or maybe we will wait until there is a total economic collapse.

A better idea would be perhaps to do some introspection into why your country has relied on the USA for so long for trade and military protection. Isn't it time to work on measures to make Canada more self-reliant?

As an American I totally support Canada who has been our long time friend and ally.

This is even more of a reason why the United States should not be dependent on any country. We need to build in this country. We need to manufacture in this country, but all businesses take the shortcut and go where it's cheapest and in the long run. It cost us, but this is typical Americans. Netherlands here: Trump HAS to impose tariffs because he promised it a zillion times during his campaign. As a major narcissist he cannot afford to say that he made a mistake, and therefor: tariffs. I predict however that this period will not last very long. Only as long as necessary to make it possible for Trump to say that they didn't work out as planned because of some reason.

Isn’t it fair that the US charge tariffs if Canada and Mexico charge tariffs? Yes, it is. What the hell is Trudeau even flapping his gums about? Perhaps all aid should be taken from Canada and Mexico for being ungrateful. You ever heard of the North American Union? It’s a thing. Look it up. Canada and America should work together. Trudeau is the only one talking about a trade war. Think about that... Trump imposed reciprocal tariffs on many countries who later came to the Whitehouse and invested billions to bring business here. Canada has enjoyed the American gravy train for long enough. Just look at the comparison between how much money goes into Canada and how much of that America actually sees a return on.

The American government agencies and institutions have been weakened, as well as their healthcare and educational systems. Their relationships with allies and friends, North and South, have been strained, global allies have grown skeptical of the United States, and everywhere the US has given away its soft power, a vacuum was created that will now be filled with China or Russian influence. Every enemy of the US longed for this moment, and Donald Trump and JD Vance handed them this unnecessary win. America is past the point of no return; No one will come to help and rescue their most vulnerable. As a Canadian who lives in (largely French-speaking) Quebec, I don't know if our gov't even NEEDS to tariff American consumer goods, the people here are already boycotting US goods and companies en masse. EVERYBODY is doing it - and the pace isn't going to recede anytime soon. Even after the Orange Turd is long gone, trust me, Canadians will remember this! The American state has proven it cannot be trusted. They have unilaterally broken the trade agreement (negotiated by the previous Donald J Chump administration) on the flimsiest of reasons, the 00.2 % of fentanyl that flows over the border into the US from Canada. That deal now obviously not worth the paper it was signed on.

Trump is 78 yrs old, has no possibility to run again and is adopting a scorched earth policy dictated by his massive ego. He doesn't care what the news is as long as he's the headline. From Germany: Trump wants as a benefit no taxes for companies in USA. The price for his household have to pay by duties from other countries. Drugs and so on are no real argue, he is saying only for his people at home. Now the inflation growing up all in the world and he wants to drop it, ha! Thats so silly! Or Moskau guided him.. All BS. We are in a trade deficit it with Canada. We haven’t been partners. Our leads in the past have catered and cost Americans future prosperity. Trump is equalizing the trade partnership. As a German, I can only say, great country. My son studied in Canada for a year. He was given such a warm welcome. Thank you. The import taxes are nonsense.
