I speak for myself and not on behalf of anyone.\n\nFirstly, in any such situation be it any religion, caste etc, before reacting, imagine if this was happening to your own son/daughter, your own brother/sister. \n\nSecondly what faith one chooses to practice and how they embrace it, be it wearing a kirpan, a burqa, or keeping a shika(choti), etc, especially opinions like what one can or cannot wear/do, lead to more harm than good. We don't live there, it's not our religion, it's not our life, then who are we to condemn and be opinionated about them.\n\nThirdly, whether the kirpan should be allowed inside an educational campus can only be determined by the campus authorities, the local police and the Sikh community representatives there.\n\nYes, he could have and should have worn it on the inside just like so many Brahmins wear the sacred white thread (yajnopavita).\n\nHe could have taken prior permission from the college authorities to freely wear it if possible and all this could have been avoided. If he is khalistani.... No comment. We see them as terrorists. If normal Sikh, then they should not carry that knife openly. That thing must not be revealed. We all know it's part of tradition but you never show it openly in public especially in non indian area. They have the right to assume, and investigate because of cultural differences. Peace. Taking Knife in campus is really stupidity, even if it is part of Sikh Community. I am Indian, and I belive if you are in India, Sikh can pretty much wear it where you can. But if you are in other country, you should abide by their law. Otherwise why the heck you are even traveling to other countries.

Even though I'm Indian and would want to side with the Sikh student, I can't. Kirpan along with other accessories were used by Sikhs for fighting against Mughals back in the old days. There's no reason for Sikhs to be holding all these accesories now, especially at a place of learning.

As an Indian I must say you can't perform or carry out your cultural things everywhere. Specially school, colleges & University. That knife(Kirpan) is a religion thing for Sikhs but you should take responsibility of your surroundings as well.

Keep your religion at home.anyway Sikhs are one of the religiously bigoted groups on earth.dont get carried away by the highly publicized free meals delivery to people by the Sikhs people.over 70 percent of the donors of those free foods distribute by the Sikhs actually comes from rich Indian Hindu businesses men.
