Great good news for a change…….maybe Canada should look for better immigrates who can provide Canada skills and not just labour…Canada isn’t the country to come to and live or even work…..

I'm a Brit who has lived here 13 years and my advice to any Brit thinking of moving here is not to. If you can live in a nice county and you have a decent job you are better off in the UK. There is a lot of decline in urban areas here, tweaking drug addicts and tent encampments the likes the UK has NEVER seen. It's incredibly expensive to rent if you want to live anywhere remotely interesting. The infrastructure is so bad, unless you have a vehicle or lots of money to keep flying, you will feel incredibly isolated here. Brits are lucky to have such a great network of public transport and close proximity to Europe and all the cheap flights to get you around there. The work life balance is not as good as the UK. Most jobs here will start you on 2 weeks a year and only increase as your service grows. So after 5 years of service you will get 3 weeks and so on. Don't expect 5 weeks vacation until you have put 20 years in with most jobs. Canada is boring, it really is and so are most Canadians who also seem to have no idea what a sense of humour is. I have found new immigrants to be the friendliest, especially those from China, India, Vietnam and the Philippines. Now to the wokeness of the place, oh gosh, it's so bad. The Alberta premier has just announced very sensible and much needed gender reforms which 95% of Canadians agree with. These reforms will protect young gay kids mostly. The left have completely lost their mind over this. Women here are in genuine fear of speaking out regarding their privacy and rights to single sex spaces and sports. In the UK , this is slowly improving I believe. I'm putting things in place so I can leave. I hope things improve once the liberal government are gone but it will take many years to get this country back on track.

Canada is a great country I have be here for over half a century raised my family. The culture has changed with the times with Govt Policies put the test resulting in skyrocketing COL like food rents housing costs etc and lack of it not making Canada desirable at this time. The Cap on Foreign Students represents a \nCooling Off period for Canada which will prove beneficial in the coming years. All Indian and Foreign Students have been productive constructive ambitious and disciplined who all made a positive contribution to Canada. Times have changed and Govts will also Change with time. Keep up the good work at BBC.

Toronto resident here. I do agree with everything that Alina pointed out. Those thing exist. But the only REAL problem is the high cost of rent. It now equals and even surpasses the cost of a mortgage. If the rent problem were resolved, and they can do this by simply building more housing (which they are now starting to do - with government programs and incentives), then most of these problems Alina reported on would recede or disappear completely. \n\nAlso, the homelessness is not visually worse than anywhere else I've visited. Homeless encampments are visible in every city I've been too. However, in Toronto, a LOT of homeless people come from other parts of Canada. \n\nThe violence that Alina referred to was just a snapshot in time. She made her video around 4 months ago, and at that time there were several truly shocking incidents on the subway (which even made international news). Those incidents have not continued. The subway system, and Toronto, is still a very, very safe city. We are the third largest city in North America, after LA and NYC, and we had something like 50 homicides last year. Chicago has like 500. Just by way of example. \n\nI love Toronto, even though it is very expensive to pay rent here. But there is so much to offer that I wouldn't consider living somewhere else. Not a chance. It's great that you can live somewhere else if you work remotely, but when you're not working, what do you do?...Toronto is safe, clean (except in tourist season), with limitless opportunities for career and lifestyle. Wouldn't live anywhere else.

Great video.skilled people should migrate to Australia but never canada..let me add 3 more reasons : canada is a non happy people, due to complex life, it's very hard to meet a Canadian happy. 2. Many sectors in business are dominated by people from a certain country and they will not anyone work in that field. For example, security guard, and warehouse jobs are only for India. Firefighting jobs are only for someone who's father or brother is a Firefighter. School manager is only Canadian of Europe origin...3. Canada is age eating place, meaning you come to canada young, but ur life will run so fast , that you get old and crippled very fast+not happy.

Yet, again, another “Boomer” success story! “Boomers”, including Trump and Biden, have turned the USA into an on-going circus act. I’ve lost hope in the selfish Boomers and lazy Americans. We need some new, hard-working citizens who can contribute to making America great again.

I’m Canadian, my parents didn’t have $28k to give me to go to university. So I’m sorry these ppl think that going to school in Canada is some magic ticket to a successful career making great money, but why should Canadians feel bad for these ppl? Yes u were sold a lie, that North America is some magical land of hope, it’s not, there are millions of ppl in the west who can’t afford university, and have to work their entire lives as janitors and labourers with no savings for retirement, nothing to offer their children, I don’t feel bad thst these ppl are being mislead by Canadian universities, so are we, so many college and university programs are a scam,

This story is very true. I came to Canada when i was 10. Was raised in Canada and life was great. All that changed in the last 10 years. Everything is sooo expensive you have to cut back on leisure activities that you need to keep your mind healthy after a long work week. All i did was work long hours for the necessities for me and my family. After a long conversation about a year ago with my wife, we decided to move back to Portugal (I have dual citizenship). We moved this past summer and couldnt be happier. Life here is much more laid back and you are not charged to do the simple leisure activities like going to a provincial park. Food is cheaper, housing is cheaper, insurance is cheaper and weather is 100x better. No more having to hibernate at home in the winters. Only thing i found more expensive here was electronics and fuel. Something needs to change in Canada.

Great video and very helpful indeed for new comers, but my personal experience is, you can do much better in Canada if you burn the boats, you can not give it your 100 % specially when you keep thinking that you can always go back to where you come from. Most of us are not used to live independent hard working life and that’s a bottle neck and culture shock for most immigrants.

I am not Muslim but Canada is still a great country. A Muslim country will be a huge change and it does depend on the country. I lived in Morocco for 2 years and you are judged by your money. Really snobby people. They hate the poor and there are lots of poor people. Cost of Living has also increased. Lovely climate. No job opportunities for young people. I worked in Dubai for 6 months. All bling and only the 20 % have any proper say. Spent a holiday in Oman. Woman still kept back. Also might get caught up in Middle East conflict. Countries like Kuwait/Saudi etc very strict after freedom of Canada. Albania probably would not be strict enough for you. 60% percent Muslim. Had a holiday there about 10 yrs ago. Beautiful in summer and I believe still reasonable. Will be interested to see where you pick. I live in Ireland cost of living madly expensive!! I have cousins in Montreal. Have spent many vacations there. Why not try Vancouver for better weather? I just love Canada but all my immediate family are here. Will be in Canada again in September.\nReally living in a country just because of your religion in this day and age is not great. We now live in a Global World. If you have good family values that is all that matters. Anyway Good Luck but it is a big jump.

We’ve been here since more than a year now and we don’t have a car and we love the pollution free air here and the work life balance. If you live downtown, you don’t need a car as public transport is very convenient. If you don’t want to do things on your own and you definitely need the help from maids and so on, then Canada isn’t for you. It all depends on where you find a house. Very few people in downtown own cars. If you want to live a healthier life, Canada is a good place for that. We came in winters and settled with the help of relatives and thankfully it’s been good so far. Summers are amazing here. Job market is a struggle currently but it’s not permanent. And it is possible to find a job from India if you try for it. If you’re in IT, you don’t need to start from scratch. There are Indian stores almost everywhere and many Indian restaurants as well. You just need to find your place. And it’s an amazing place for plant based vegan people. Food quality is amazing and great safety restrictions. Healthcare also depends on where you live. If you find your people and friends and keep socializing with family, loneliness won’t be there. It’s better to move to a new country when you don’t have kids. \nAlso the accent gradually develops and there’s nothing to worry about. This place is very diverse and there are people with very different accents from all around the world. There is some struggle initially but it all depends on what your priorities are. Life here is very comfortable once you get used to the lifestyle here and the biggest thing is, work life balance and the quality of life. If you want to do things other than your job, this is a good place to do that. Kids also become much more independent here. Rest it all depends on what your goals in life are. Also one of the biggest factors is, if your partner/husband isn’t willing to help with housework or cooking, you can’t survive here. As simple as that. Many factors to consider.

While this is a great thing in general...\nIt doesn't benefit the country or the immigrants when things like housing and jobs and health care aren't in place to support this influx of people. \n\nThe thing is...Canada REFUSES to fix its own problems on its own. If the excuse is don't do this because of health care then when will the right time be? Canada's health care has been at dangerous levels for OVER 30 YEARS! Always working at or near peak with long wait times. Maybe in 30 more years this will be fixed?\n\nHousing is a problem because no one builds affordable housing. The system is fully corrupt. When you hear that 500k houses have been built...then odds are 99% of those were NOT affordable housing. Meanwhile well over 50% of Canadians REQUIRE affordable housing. So how many more years will it take to fix this problem when we're not even trying to address it?

This present government makeing great mistake to bring huge amount of international students specially from south Asian poor country Reuther then rich country. More than 25% disappeared from the institute other 35 to 40 %study on line without attending in institute start looking job to manage their expenses and tuition fee and sending money to their parents in back home. Government need to thing very carefully to stop this type loophole before bringing international students in this country. This is malticultureal country bringing from all over world as a same ratio not specific few countries. Students work permit must be stop on mater any argument or requist ,questions . This all writing for immigration department for consideration please. \nP

Not only accepting too many international students but also too many people with zero ability and knowledge to communicate with others. Ton of people who came with work permits basically doing nothing. I know so many of them as soon as they got the work permits, left Canada and got back home. Our education system is not as efficient as before. Too many kids from those family with work permits are joining the schools every day so the number of kids in each class is way more than it should be.There is no idea behind bringing too many immigrants. Stop doing that. Canada is not a great country like before.

Hey Tyler i love your work. I am a savagely loyal Albertan. \nAlberta is the best province. Change my mind. \nBut if Alberta starts slipping to the Left with another NDP/Socialist government, i would move to the US no question. Not just anywhere though. The 2 coasts are dumpster fires. (No offense if you live there) Canada is messed up like the 2 coasts. Trudeaus MO has been to systematically dismantle this once great, thriving, proud country for 8 long years. With election fraud and more seats in the Maritime provinces than all the Western provinces, and the Federal government bribing those poorer provinces for votes, it may be a long time before the Liberals are removed. I guess no one will want to settle in a Western society as there is a lot of stress _ loans, no job fairness, cost of living, drugs, the cost of energy bills, the cost of housing, poor transportation as one has to travel great distances each day to work, no quality family time _ and the way emigrants are not able to carry over their valuable experience or qualifications. Now with social media we have woken up to reality _ home is better even if it is classified by tge Western nation as a developing country. Colonial mindser is hard to iron out?

Truth. Our once great country is a wreck. Our prime minister with the good hair is an idiot who has ruined Canada. I don't even recognize my home country anymore. Immigrants have been given everything that our Canadian forefathers worked so hard to give their families. It's beyond tragic. It's criminal. Housing and health care are in crisis to the point where anybody can become homeless or die waiting for hours in an ER for treatment. It's sick and sad and unforgivable that our government has set 4th and 5th generation Canadian individuals and families up for poverty and death.

I have spent my life time. Life was great in the 80s and 90s. Time to live, enjoy, lots of job opportunities and saving. One person working could feed the whole family and it was a family system with shows that focused on family and discipline. Now after 40 years, its just the opposite. Gov taxes, more taxes, and at the end you are living pay check to pay check. They want to train your kids, they want both the husband and wife to work and give them half the salary.

“Hit back”? Perhaps you find any question, no matter how relevant or reasonable, to deserve “hitting back”. Turkey is a great country but like many other nation has unqualified individuals working in the press.

The only thing I agreed with you is the price of housing in large cities. Canada is still a great country if one is willing to work. I maybe living in a cocoon, all my friends and my children’s friends are doing ok with their jobs and finances. The really uneducated and uninspired would suffered just like in any other country. Canada is not perfect, but I rather be here than anywhere else. Btw, I am 70 years old and have been here for 60 years.

You guys can consider Dubai as one of your options. It is so safe here. Awesome education for kids with islamic and Arabic subjects along with all the other modern curriculum. We Love dubai. Never had any problem in having halal food, zero security related issues, zero racism. Well balanced work and life, moderate inflation but you never really can feel it. In short, its an ideal place to live and raise your kids here. Alhamdulillah. We also decided long time back to move to Canada or New Zealand but the brought up of our kids was the biggest reason that we never did it. We are so greatful to Allah for making the right decision of staying in Dubai.

This is my 13th year in Canada, I am so sad to see the change, I really hope it will become a better country again with Trudeau stepping down. But we also have to be fair that there are not many countries become better since COVID. Many of you leaving or planning to leave Canada are more like rich country retirees taking advantage of the wage and currency differences between rich and poor countries. So let’s put it this way, if many of you have not worked your whole life here in Canada, will you still have a quality of life in your home countries, such as Southeast Asia or South America? I doubt majority of the population there is make a good money and having great work life balance, and everyone there could afford a decent retirement life. what is more close to nowadays reality is people coming here and hoping they could have a better paid job and settle down here, but most of them found out they are struggling to even maintain their normal life in this country, so they left. For those who came years ago, they made a saving which may not be enough to support a good retirement life here, but is more than enough in other countries, they also choose to flee. Then those successful immigrants will stay here with the option to travel anywhere they want. My son's classmate's grandfather immigrated to Canada long time ago who later become a well known cardiologist and was rewarded as one of the top 25 immigrants Award, all three daughters are now specialists too. I really hope Canada could rise again!

I totally agree with your assessment, however this is my home and I will work to make it better. I’ve travelled to other parts of the world and completely understand that Toronto (and for that fact, Canada) is in a declining position, especially when compared to many emerging countries. It’s sad but I really think that the US Canada have peaked, many years ago. BUT will I move - no. I will travel and Toronto will always be my home. Great video btw.

Unfortunately I was born there and wasted 23 years of my life there...but I made up for it spending the last 24 in Japan. God works in mysterious ways. :D It's just fucked up that I own 13 homes in Japan and even if I sold ALL of them, I could probably barely afford a DUMP in Vancouver...or maybe just an old condo. But yet somehow propaganda says how expensive Japan is..and how great Canada is. Fuck that shit. The West's propaganda is just messed. Thank God I broke free from that. high cost of living it makes sense to leave Canada all together . You are taxed to death in Canada every thing cost more Canada is a great place if you all ready have lots of money . But if you don’t it’s hard. I find it so weird when they ask for Canadian experience when you just came to Canada I blame the employer they make it difficult for people to get hired and in return people leave to find a job in a different country I did the same thing came to Canada to look for work working in IT and I didn’t get IT job because I did t have any Canadian experience. After two years of working at a job that was not even what I studied I left Canada and found a job that I studied for I got a good job in America Long island New York and never looked back……. I get paid double then I would have if I had gotten a job in Canada any way ….. forget Canadian experience it’s not worth moving to Canada the country has changed. You pay more for everything in the states you get things for a lot less . Car insurance in Canada is so expensive……… do t get me started on the winter ?

Big decision, but so is the world. Have you considered what you would do for a living? I'm sorry I don't know much about your family. \nIf you can work from anywhere in the world, then you have a few choices. Someone suggested Malaysia. I think that is very good option. Its technically advanced, people are kind and warm, living expenses are very reasonable. I have only visited once, but I loved it. Felt completely comfortable (I don't wear the hijab). This was my experience from over 25years ago. \nIf you want to consider an Arab country, I would highly recommend checking out Oman, that is where I am from. I lived in the US for over 25 years, and now I love living in Oman. Its very calm, people are kind and welcoming. Winters are great here, but summers are very hot. Most foreigners who come here, never want to leave. The sense of serenity here is addictive. \nGood luck in your search.

It's a disgrace how Canada has been governed the last 8 years. Government debt is through the roof and that burden has been passed directly to the once so called middle class now the working poor. I am leaving Canada as I can only see life and standard of living dropping considerably. If they stop the idiot policies now, it will take a generation to recover, but i hardly see that happening. The climate activists, gender activists and health fear mongering is controlling policy and brainwashing children. Canadians will accpet things. They will suffer and just accept what leadership is lying about. it is sad. once a great country and a beacon of hope for many around the world, that has been corrupted.

Doomers be dooming. Canada is still one of the best countries to live anywhere. While income disparity continues to grow and there are several domestic issues that need addressing, and the political and social climate isn't great, you still have lots of work and skills training opportunities, robust, if decaying social support structures, pretty low crime rates, decent education. You're not being incarcerated or killed for no good reason, you're not being oppressed by the government, your children don't have to work in sweatshops and parents don't have to sell their children into prostitution. You children aren't being gangpressed into being child soldiers, you aren't being shot at when you vote... social media is being weaponized by manipulative cloutchasers and foreign actors.

I think People should have right expectations when they move abroad. \nThey watch Hindi Movies and think Vilayat is Heaven on Earth. ??\nThere will always be a darker side to even Developed countries. \nIn India Your Children face Reservation, Huge Population and competition, Over Pollution, bad infrastructure, poor healthcare facilities with very high costs, poor roads, low standards of living, less freedom etc.\nAlso Work Life Balance in Canada and Europe is fairly great compared to India.\nAlso the West a free and Quality Education and headquarters of many major MNCs Techgiants.\nThese factors attract Talent.

I’m a Canadian living in Asia. Canada is a great place if you have money and a good job and house. If you’re an ordinary person it’s not so good. You’ll be working about 50 weeks a year and living paycheck to paycheck. Vacation? Savings? Buy a house? Probably not

So great you are thinking of your children. Come to Mill Valley , CA and great Mosque with generations of support. Asylum work we do and happy to help you pro bono as we welcome amazing Muslims as you are ! We are Catholic , but know we are all from God.

Failing , that’s the right word. Canada keeps taking new immigrants ( mostly undocumented & refugees) over staying tourists. Not deporting. Lack of affordable housing/ apartments. Cost of living is too high & taxes. Minimum wage don’t match reality. Highly educated or degree holders are great & still don’t appreciate how lucky they are. No matter how successful & achieved a good job professionally when you retire, they put you back below poverty as senior. Max government pension is about $1,600 . How can you afford decently & independently to live alone. Not enough to rent a bachelor apartment. Government housing nowadays gives priorities to new / refugees / non documented immigrants than real average Canadian citizen who works hard for years. Long waiting lists for affordable housing Thank God & to myself alone , I started early & fought for my well deserved affordable housing after I retired otherwise, no way I cannot live decently as a senior like others who didn’t contribute much during their early years to the government. Give priority to our own Canadian citizen regardless of their ethnicity before giving to new undocumented immigrants. \n?❤️??

Main difference between Singapore and Canada is the latter has been trying to suppress wages of the working class effectively turning the working class into the working poor. \n\nThis, based on idiotic economic theories coming from central bank economists who think profiting private banks which produce nothing and creating a slave labor force in perpetual debt is good for the economy.\n\nIn Singapore, the govt has done the opposite. i.e. enabled purchasing power of the average citizen to rise along with standards of living. Its created the belief that hard work, innovation and enterprise on the part of the individual actually leads to personal success. \n\nThat dream has faded away in Canada and the young people see a bleak future. Its sad to even have to write this.\n\nWhen central bankers, govt..etc. step in to steal the productive output of the working class, it destroys Capitalism and suplants it with Crony Capitalism. FIRE (Financial, Insurance, Real Estate) speculation prospers while the working class producing real goods and services is financially destroyed.\n\nThe real estate prices are deliberately kept high by artificially restricting supply of housing through all kinds of bureaucratic means. Its main objective is to keep people in debt and working to pay off mortgage debt. A fall in housing prices would undo a lot of the leveraged bets that depend on housing prices staying high -- as happened in 2008 in the US. Main losers of that are banks.\n\nYou can then understand why Canada keeps pushing for more and more immigrants. All pyramid schemes (in this case a debt pyramid scheme) has to expand their base or collapse. It also serves the purpose of wage suppression of the working class so they remain in debt.\n\n\nI don't understand why you came from a prosperous country like Singapore to a lower standard of living in Canada. I've also lived in Vancouver for 3 years, Toronto for 5 years, returned to Montreal for another 3 years, and have now been in Quebec City for 15 years.\n\nAs a Quebec City resident and business owner, I find the city amazing. During the pandemic, there were many programs and subsidies available. I even wrote to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau regarding the CEBA program for businesses, suggesting some changes to the eligibility criteria. They followed through, and Federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau sent a detailed response, signed by him but likely written by his staff, explaining the revised criteria and suggesting other potential programs. Provincially, my MP's staff guided me through various programs. Ultimately, I received nearly everything I needed to survive and potentially thrive through the pandemic (to be confirmed in 2024).\n\nTaxes are high, but I feel safe in Quebec City. Crime rates are low, and I've experienced little racism, possibly due to my fluency in French. Starting a business here has been easy, with minimal costs and bureaucracy.\n\nAs a gay man, I've never felt endangered. I can comfortably express affection for my spouse in public without feeling judged.\n\nHealthcare, including access to medication and doctor consultations, is extremely affordable. Super Clinics offer next-day appointments at no cost.\n\nI own a commercial condo for my business, which cost significantly less than it would have in Toronto or Vancouver. My rent for a one-bedroom apartment is CAD 755, and electricity bills are remarkably low.\n\nWith the shift to online business, I've accessed international markets while benefiting from a low-cost, safe environment.
