I am in the US. While it will hurt all concerned, I hope Canada and Mexico go to the mat on these tariffs. We have got to get people to turn against Trump and to attempt to teach him to stop this chaos . Impossible, I know.

As an American and a Trump supporter, I agree with these tariffs, but only equal to the tariffs other countries charge the United States on our imports. I do not agree with imposing this on our brothers and sisters to the north. I’m speaking of the good people of Canada. I have traveled to Canada and crossing the border was just like crossing into another state. Yes, there was a border gate which there should be, but I had absolutely no problem whatsoever. I hope our government can work this out very quickly and stop this foolishness. But to countries like China and Europe the United States should charge a reciprocal tariff as to what you charge us on our import. It’s only fair. Why are we paying an exuberant tariff for our goods entering your country and you expect to pay nothing with your goods entering ours. Most Americans, love Canada and love our Canadian brothers and sisters, we’ve always supported each other in world, wars, and other attacks against our respective countries. I pray this is resolved quickly, and then we can once again live United and in harmony.

Every single country has huge tariffs against our country. All Trump wants is for them to pay us the same we pay them. Why any taxpayer would be upset is against it is beyond me. Course Trudeau just said he was going to sacrifice his citizens in a forever war that is already lost. Thank God Trump will protect our citizens and just wants a even playing field. Canada has gotten away with robbing us long enough.

Good man Trudeau! The US agenda is bigger even than a trade war, this is a ruse that distracts from the US plan for Canada. Canada, join your allies in Europe, send your oil/gas and other resources to Europe tariff-free; Europe is a bigger market than the US.

As a Canadian who lives in (largely French-speaking) Quebec, I don't know if our gov't even NEEDS to tariff American consumer goods, the people here are already boycotting US goods and companies en masse. EVERYBODY is doing it - and the pace isn't going to recede anytime soon. Even after the Orange Turd is long gone, trust me, Canadians will remember this! The American state has proven it cannot be trusted. They have unilaterally broken the trade agreement (negotiated by the previous Donald J Chump administration) on the flimsiest of reasons, the 00.2 % of fentanyl that flows over the border into the US from Canada. That deal now obviously not worth the paper it was signed on.

So its ok for them to tariff us but if we fo it we are the bad guys ?

seems like a stupid idea to respond like this. why not instead react by removing the tariffs you already have on our country. that would end it immediately. this war was started long before trump took office. if you think were going to let you continue ripping us off then good luck with that.

The problem is the US runs a deficit of 6% and piles up public debt although unemployment is extremely low , so instead of raising income tax or other social security contributions, the new administration tries to get money from tariffs, it will work like an increase of VAT . Cutting expenditure and increasing income to finance the federal budget through tariffs is another way to reduce deficits. The price however is to loose a lot of partners and the status of a super power.

Well, I am from America and I never heard of such a bunch of whiny babies in my life. If you got an app to get her Mr. Trudeau and got the border tightened up instead of lying about us you wouldn’t have 25% tariff against you in the business we do a Canada as much it is in the billions it’s chunk change to us so young with the program and get it together and take a nap order in for you Europeans. What % of phentonol does the US say comes in from Canada? Canada say 1%. Tariffs are unjustified if it’s that low. I think it’s kick the small boy so bigger boys like the EU are more flexible. I actually am a fan of trump and I think he’s a strong person who will stand for the country, but what he is doing with these tariffs are gonna have long lasting effects on our country company’s will raise prices on products to make up for loss profits and that will harm who? I'm a born Canadian and i'm BAFFLED at how you would turn around and impose tariffs on your closest ally. Canada and the US had a relationship that was built on trust co-operation and trillions of dollars and it means nothing to their current president. I used to be a fan of Trump, but the recent situation with Zelensky along with the tariffs i can see more and more that having him back in office was a huge mistake. Trump obviously doesn't care about how the tariffs affect his country and his people because he responded by threatening to raise the tariffs in retaliation to Canada's response.

As a US citizen who voted for Trump, I have no idea why Trump impose tariffs on Canada. Why can’t Trump just ask Canada straight if he wants something done by Canada? Does he want to limit Chinese products through Canada?

Canada imports food from the US. So 25% tariffs on that food will hit Canadians big time. And there is no other place to get that food. I am afraid Trudeau is standing on glass legs.

I just watch mr trump speak with regards to tariff impose on canada mexico and china..he's proud in saying that a lot of foriegn companies will soon build factories and offices in the US. Providing billions of jobs and revenue. He said that if these companies would come to the United States where will be no tariff, lower taxes and easy life for the Americans. We asked for Canada to control the border, they did not. The tariff came after this request was denied. Canadians should be concerned about dangerous people coming through their country to get to the US. I hope your government shows more concern for your welfare as our president does for ours!???

Trump is NOT starting a trade war. He is equalizing the playing field. Canada was already imposing a 25% tariff on the US unfairly. Now they are charging 50% tariffs. Not fair at all!
