We are less than two months into DJT's term, and I have to say it's turning out much worse than I expected (and I thought it would be pretty bad). As a European having lived in both Canada and the United States for prolonged times, my view is this: Canadians are basically the same as Americans but with Health Care. They have a common heritage and history and this is like a brother turning evil and hurting its siblings. Trump is smart? Hi, American citizen here. Please know that half of us are so, so embarrassed to be part of the United States and to have Trump as our president. I cannot put into words how upsetting it is to know that so many people elected him a second time.

The problem as I see it, is that responding in kind to Trump like this is possibly to invite an invasion, justified by Trump claiming that Canadian assets are essential to US national security. It's hard to parse the provocation from the US as anything less than a pretext to eventually try and annexe Canada. Maybe Russia will attack the Baltics at the same time.
