Nice summary of the main challenges. Reading some of these comments leads me to believe that if one is motivated solely by money, Canada is not a great choice for you as an immigrant. The number of commenters hoping to move to the US from Canada due to greater opportunities to make money while ignoring the real and substantial disadvantages of living south of the borders just emphasizes this. My family are immigrants from the US and we didn’t face the same challenges as immigrants from countries further afield but I do understand the differences between the two countries very well and can state unequivocally that moving to Canada was the best decision our family made. Lower crime, better health care (yes even with the wait times), a fairer system and a “boring” but sane political system more than compensate for the few extra dollars I would make south of the border. In terms of where better prospects going forward for children and grandchildren, with the looming threat of climate change, Canada wins hands down. Extra income means little if you have to spend all of it on personal security and health care deductibles. So if you are only motivated by top line items like gross annual salary, Canada might not be for you and you would be better off looking elsewhere and leaving that immigration spot open to someone who can appreciate the more balanced offering that a new life and future in Canada can offer.

One of the best decision I made in my life was to immigrate to Canada. I completed 3 years in Canada and i am super happy here. From my experience if you are skilled to work in IT (web developer, software quality assurance, cloud architect, DevOps) you can definitely get a job without local experience.

I agree with all the points, but this situation is not only in Canada but everywhere. I will start from my home country India, Since graduation I was working as a part time teacher and I deadly love that profession. To qualify myself I did so many courses, internships, attended workshops, completed my B.Ed and M.Ed but everything went vain when I started searching a job. The amount of hardwork I did was not at all recognizable, salaries were so low but still I worked thinking may be later I will get an opportunity but to a disappointment it never happen. Later, I moved to UAE thinking maybe here atleast I will get what I expected, struggled for 5 months to get a job luckily I was on a family visa. I lowered my expectations, ready to work on the lowest salary but still I did no job. Finally I decided to go back to my home country but was still applying for the jobs thinking to not loose hope till the date of my flight and believe me the next day I got a call and got selected the same day with an average package not the lowest but still I was happy. So I think difficulties are everywhere it depends on how you are dealing with them and mostly being positive is the main key for success. Even I am deciding to immigrate Canada, have many friends their who are happy with their lives but it doesn't mean I should keep my hopes high but the best thing I can do is accepting whatever is coming to me and being grateful of whatever I have. (BTW teachers are underrated everywhere)

Lived there for 14 years on and off mostly bcoz had no choice to go back but all the time I was only hoping, praying when time will come that I will leave this country finally I’m out , thank God , truth is that there is too much hype about Canada in other parts of the world particularly in Asian countries , immigrating to other European countries is difficult now , the picture of Canada is being portrayed as the best place , it is a nice country to some extent but living comfortably is extremely hard , way too expensive , everything from groceries to education , it is completely out of reach for a new comer to buy a house in and around Toronto , way too cold , brutal winters , which are very depressing , problem is this country is mostly uninhabitable due to extreme cold weather , everyone is nestled in Toronto and it’s surroundings , very limited opportunities. \nCold Canadian behavior, I always used to call it Cold Hell. I can go on and on ….I’m happy I’m out from there. You can just struggle to survive , you can’t have future in Canada.

canada is great country to immigrate if you come from money. and your family can comfortably bankroll your stay there. but if you are going too canada thinking you'll make money, well lets just say you will be brutalised by life there. the best time to move to canada is whn doing an undergraduate degree since you get to start from the bottom in matters of work experience and build the social networks along the years. it is sad to hear cab drivers in canada most who are immigrants were doctors, some even surgeons back in their home country

I know it won’t be easy but, Toronto has a lot of resources for immigrants and even undocumented immigrants. I worked for a shelter and although it was the only one that takes undocumented families, you learn there are resources out there. \nIt’s about aligning yourself with the right community support Center, finding the people who will fight for you. There are so many people here who welcome and want to help all types of immigrants. No matter your background.\nThe people who work helping these communities they are ruthless in their fight for citizenship, or at least finding you a job and home, they will guide you through the system. Social workers, ones in community resource centres, not government centres, will be your best friend. They know where the red tape is and the resources available to you. \nYou could even go to a specific shelter to t all out your options and where you could go to get help.\nI understand this is not ideal. \nBut, if you want to be here, your best friends are non-profits, finding a center that aligns with your story, your background, because they will fight for you. We have people here from every country and resource centres geared towards your own language, religion etc.\nAnother big way to set yourself up for success. Churches, rich churches to be specific. \nMy mom works in a very rich church and it helps them feel better about themselves helping people, you could be nice enough to alleviate their guilt through their wallets, and connections. Under the table work, shelter, space for your family, set you up, they might even have the lawyers you need pro Bono in those rich churches. Church shopping, do not be above it if you don’t have resources. You don’t just get help, you build a community and support system through a common bond, the church. \nI know these aren’t revolutionary tips, but without specifics of your background it’s hard (for me specifically) to give specific advice online as to what services could be provided for you.\nIt’s kind of like a doctors appointment. actually, the best way to get them punished is to turn them into the Chinese authority. As long as they have the Chinese identity card, which in this case, most of the clients does, they will get a 3 YEAR or less JAIL TIME just by faking immigration stamps. That's a country with Death penalty still in application, folks. And according to local law, if you violate Chinese law in ANY country, as long as you are a citizen, you are subject to persecution, tough.

These people heard Trudeau speak about open arms at the height of the Syrian refugee crisis. I don't remember his exact words but I'm sure he didn't mean come one, come all, forever and ever. As a proud atheist, I find all religious costumes to be either degrading, or just plain hilarious. \nTheir minds are poisoned from the time they are born, and that's child abuse. \nWe should be asking why we are allowing so much immigration. The answer - families don't have as many kids. Why? Kids are expensive, and when your giving over half your salary to the government, having no kids may be your best option financially. So the government responds by keeping taxes high, and making up for smaller family sizes by recruiting immigrants from the Philippines, Nigeria, Sudan, etc.. The handful from Syria get all the attention, but they are a small fraction of the total. \nSo either start having more babies, or start preparing for the multicultural mosaic where the liberal values that made this country great will need to be protected, and I would say, promoted.

what we need is an enlightment movement with islam where the individual determines whats best for themselves rather than these literal interpretations. In the U.S. at my school many of the 3rd generation muslim kids my age are becoming integrated. Girls wear hats that conceal their hair and long sleeves that fit within their religions dress code instead of the burka and young men are very open to other people ideas such as alchohol use. The problem is when families control their children, as in any case really, and are less than open to change. As a son of an immigrant the most important step with integration is the elimination of your cultural identity, you leave your values in your own country because you are no longer in an enviorment where your opinion matters or is relevant. If muslims could adjust/conform their rules to fit the conscripts of western civilization everything would be dandy.
