Seriously speaking i love this city but as you said it is very expensive to live in live in the midtown both my wife and myself are full time workers and we are managing the expenses, the declining ratio is for sure i blame the government, the bad thing is no matter what every other immigrant whether they lands in halifax or calgary they move to Gta or in toronto, the government should have a check and balance to those people who are nominated in other provinces and moved to Toronto, i dont blame the people it is the government they need to make the opportunity in every province and put a cap on the individual if you are landed in Saskatchewan you should stay in the same place for almost 5 years, if a person or a family live constantly for 5 years at one place they don’t even try to think to move any-other city unless they have some serious issues their, i am also an immigrant a landed PR from Pakistan Alhumdulillah i work hard my wife does the same Managing the expenses but it’s true it is not affordable for everyone now.

You are so very true. Generally, We are very anxious to go to foreign countries. But our India is much better than any other country. I also went UK sometimes for 3 months, sometimes for 2 months with my daughter since my husband is working there. Trying to realize whether me and my daughter can adjust there or not. But I saw their life is very hard. Everything I have to do alone without the help of anyone even when I am sick also. Another thing is that in foreign countries you can not get the comfort in mind to speak to others in a foreign language and always a feeling will be there that this is not my country. So, I came back and I am really happy here and I am continuing with a very comfortable life.

Ok, so I live near a border crossing so I’ve been over to shop on many occasions. (Never lived there though.) Here’s an example of a time I was over there, waiting in line at customer service at a store. There was a man in front of me. I patiently waited for him to finish and then went to step forward in his place. A woman behind me basically pushed me out of the way, literally cut me, and then started interacting with the employee like it was an everyday normal thing to do! I had to pick my jaw up off the floor. Manners are something you learn as a child. I had no idea how I’m inconsiderate and rude some people could be. (I have many other examples but of course when I see something like that, I really notice it.)\nNever mind the lack of respect for human life when you’re trying to drive on a Freeway with some. That’s actually terrifying.

I've had about 8 friends and 2 relatives who have tried life in the USA.\nOne cousin is still in Colorado after moving there with her 2nd husband, an American, over 10 years ago. The rest have come back to Canada and the biggest general impression I get is that it is simply a huge relief to get out of there. That is a huge contrast to the people I know who had tried life in Mexico, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Europe, Thailand, Japan, VietNam, Australia, and New Zealand: far fewer of them have come back to Canada because they are happy with life there. And the ones who have come back all have things they miss about the countries and most want to go back someday.\n\nMost of the people I know who have come back from the USA are highly critical of the utter lack of a decent health care system in the USA, but for them it was a solvable problem because they had decent jobs and insurance while they were in the USA. What gave them so much relief when they came back to Canada was that during their time in the USA they never felt safe. There is something fundamentally and brutally fucked up about a country where every bank has armed guards, the mall cops are armed, half of the people in your neighbourhood are armed, you're scared to send your children to school, and every time you turn around you see a cop with his hand on his gun.

One thing I don’t think that you have truly grasp Tyler is that you keep referring to how it’s not so bad having to pay for health care. They take it out of your pay or it’s only about 3000.00 to have a child.\nIn Canada, we pay NOTHING. No deductions from pay checks, no extra for medications in hospitals, no underlying charge for illness or childbirth. NOTHING!! So whether you only pay a little because it’s taken out of your income or you have an illness that requires extended intervention, you’ll still paying! Let me reiterate Tyler. We pay NOTHING!!! So quit saying, “Oh, it’s not that bad here.” How can you justify NOTHING compared to payments, co-pays, and payments for anything thats not standard care. Have I mentioned, NOTHING!! Quite trying to sugarcoat deficient health care.

I spent five years in Houston before I returned to Canada. I cut my hand and although I had good medical coverage, it cost 8 grand out of pocket for basically 7 stitches. I had an MRI in Canada and it cost three dollars for parking at the hospital. The religiousity in the US is everywhere. They pretend to be all about gods love, but believe that gun ownership is somehow a good thing. They are unkind to the poor and don’t want to help non whites. They are trying to ensure a next generation of poor minimum wagers but not allowing abortions because their invisible friend doesn’t like it.During flooding, a gigantic church refused to let people in using insurance concerns as an excuse and people STILL attended the church instead of calling it out and changing venues. At this point, I won’t even visit the US. It’s a ghastly place.

I lived in Texas for 10 years and I met wonderful people. But I was absolutely thrilled to get back to Canada and it's a cultural thing. I found American culture focused on 'winning' rather than integrity, so that laws and businesses and banks are predatory, and everyone is on alert/stressed trying to not be victimized somewhere. Some great vacation spots, but it's no way to live.

The exact same thing happened to me in Laval, but in reverse. I was walking on the sidewalk on my street and some schmuck decides to park his car on the sidewalk directly in front of me. I asked him his intentions, if he plans to go forward and if I should wait for him to pass etc., He refused to decide one way or another and instead insulted me in French. When I tried to walk around his car, he put it in gear and tried to run me over.

I lived in the US for 4 years. I was 12 when I moved with my parents. I had a teacher who expelled me from school on my first day. I refused to do a pledge to their flag. The teacher went nuts. I said I was not pledging anything yo a flag of another country. The teacher then tried to tell me that I was lying and that Canada was a state, not a country, so I had been pledging my whole life. This was a teacher, and I did not know Canada was not part of the US. He called me a traitor and that I should be charged, then had me expelled. When I came back to Canada, I had to take an extra year of school because my grade 11 from the US was so far behind. The US school system was bizarre. The had clubs where people dressed like the military and marched around. They were taught to fire guns, and it was all part of school. They spend more time learning about their history and never learn about so much of it. It was like an oxymoron. The teacher did not know about the War of 1812, did not know that Washington was still trying to stay with in the British Crown even months before the end of their insurrection, and that Canada was a major contributor to the US moon race. It was a very confusing tome for me. Thing I had learned in elementary school, where just being taught in middle school, and other things were so far a head I did not follow like things about their Presidents. They could not spell, yet I got makered wrong for it and I found the teacher were either very nice or true demons, and they knew nothing but their own subject. I also felt like I was treated not as a student but as a criminal who had just not commented on a crime yet. Very strange.

THE BIRD FEEDER ANALOGY \n \nI bought a bird feeder. I hung it on my back porch and filled it with birdseed. What a beauty of a bird feeder it was, as I filled it lovingly with seed. Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free and easily accessible food. \n \nBut then the birds started building nests in the boards of the patio, above the table, and next to the barbecue. Then came the poop! It was everywhere, on the patio tile, the chairs, the table…everywhere! \n \nThen some of the birds turned mean. They would dive-bomb me and try to peck me even though I had fed them out of my own pocket. The other birds were boisterous and loud. They sat on the feeder and squawked and screamed at all hours of the day and night and demanded that I fill it when it got low on food. \n \nAfter a while, I could not even sit on my own back porch anymore. So I took down the bird feeder and in three days the birds were gone. I cleaned up their mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the patio. \n \nSoon, the backyard was back to like it used to be…quiet, serene, and no one demanding their rights to a free meal. \n \nNow let us see here… \n \nOur government gives out free food, subsidized housing, free medical care, and free education and allows anyone born here to be an automatic citizen. \n \nThen the illegals came by the tens and hundreds of thousands, millions. Suddenly our taxes went up to pay for free services; apartments are housing 5 families; you have to wait 6 hours to be seen by an emergency room doctor; your child’s 2nd grade class is behind other schools because half the class doesn’t speak English. Illegals squawking and screaming in the streets, demanding more rights and free liberties. When asked why they breed like cockroaches, the reply is that it is a cultural thing. \n \nIt's long overdue for the US government to take down the bird feeder. It’s not only refugees in the streets…During summer most homeless people choose to sleep in the parks coz the weather is good and then as the weather changes they go back to the shelters..\nThere has been a lot of refugees coming to the country..now imaging adding those number of refugees plus the homeless people trying to go back to shelters..it became overwhelming \nBut this is all part of an ecosystem..\nIt starts with the lack of housing in the city..there are more people than the city can hold..\nThis leads to the people who are in shelters not being able to move to their own apartments (which the government helps them pay for) and if they don’t move out they can’t be able to create space for the homeless to move into shelters.\n2. However since that second TikTok was shot (the one with the mayor talking). The government has released an additional $210 million to help with housing refugees and therefore I think the situation is getting better now

When I came here in Canada 33 years ago, I went do in legal process,My first employer offered me a job offer to come here in Canada,I went to whole legal process here,but I obeyCanadian law to have legal working visa ,and since day one paying taxes ,i earn my hard work after 30 years and receive early pension and still work in a full time job, My advice to illegal migrants follow what Canadian laws and go through legal process and crossing the right border to pass Not to way try find asylum to be free in every thing, in tax payers money.

Sad thing is, you guys are the forerunners of what is already coming in other places. \nI can say and confirm Sydney-Australia, is going down the EXACT SAME PATH. As a somewhat successful tech person who came from nothing, I refuse to move out of a city to a culturally or globally lacking city due to “budget”. I tried spending time in BC and Nova Scotia in the capital cities. I could not spend more than a week in Saskatchewan. I can assure you that someone with decent skills and lifestyle would not be able to sustain their social and personal life, and mental health anywhere in Canada other than Toronto. If I spoke decent French, I’d say Montreal is a decent option. Vancouver is too lopsided as an international real estate haven, even though beautiful. So the problem is that Toronto is honestly the only city someone like me (and most my friends) would consider living in Canada, and we are all unfortunately being forced to move to the US. We are in our very early 30s so it’s still not too late to have a big move but none of us wanted to try out NYC or SFO much later than now. I hope things improve and we are able to move back to Toronto. But right now, unless you make $300k+, it’s impossible. And we are only able to make that money in the US (most of us). Bhai, this is the usual problem with all western countries. They can not handle their inflation and welfare system is a burden that the politicians can not get rid off. Just like our reservation system in India which we can still tackle to some extent. But their welfare system includes students, disabled, elderlies, unemployed, rehabilitation of drugs, refugees intake every year. Besides, Chinese buyers are inflating the housing market everywhere in the world.\nAll my friends only want to invest in India and nowhere else lol. \nAnother thing I observed is that when people bring their parents overseas I do not see them happy. When I pass by them they stop for a second as if they are trying to talk to me. They have freedom in India to go to their friends and family but over here they just go for a walk around the mall, struggle to buy anything from supermarket and kids can't give them enough time.

What you mentioned about in being in your 20s and trying to follow Bill Shatner down to Hollywood - very few actors strike the big time and that’s after a lot of work and if you’re ever on strike, your income wouldn’t last very long! Now you can be an independent content creator and reach more people than through the traditional path of moving to New York to get established in Broadway and then going to Los Angeles and hoping someone notices you and recruits you to a studio. About Toronto, it was once a gateway towards becoming Canadian. Not so much anymore. As a city it has all kinds of things to see, do, eat and be entertained yet its very expensive! I used to live in Toronto and I left for different reasons 2.5 years ago. It is not the same place that I remember it to be. I understand that places change but it’s changing far too fast for me. I used to like going out to various independent shops (especially bookstores) and because of the condo boom a lot of these places can not exist anymore. I also liked going to places where the ttc struggles to go to (further out of the city) but having a car and dealing with traffic has gotten way worse. My other thing is the people. Years ago people would talk about fun things and now all they talk about is money, real estate, and traffic short cuts. I agree with the crime and the housing issues that you mentioned. It’s ok to visit but I try to get out of there (otherwise I’ll be spending all my money on parking)

This capitalism and worship of the Economy isn't working for most of us. Why aren't we trying to change it and find alternatives. Why do we all accept that things get more expensive each year (inflation) why do we accept that most of us work too hard to raise our kids, why do we accept that each year whatever you do is not enough and you have to do more, until when!? \nMultiple streams of income, investments, side hustles, 996, what is all this bullsh*t. I think one of the biggest things he didn’t mention is the gap between rich and poor in African countries is huge. People will always come to the west to try and make a ‘better’ life for themselves. The African countries I have been to are beautiful the people for the most part are welcoming but like the west there are many challenges and poverty and corruption is in Africa just as much as the US, Canada, Europe and the rest of the world. Wherever you live try to live the best way you can we are not on this earth forever

Many immigrants find the first few years difficult because of the job ethics. The job ethics here in Canada is quite different from Nigerian with a laidback background. In Canada you work for every cent and it has really worked for them and some of us. I have employed so many Africans especially Nigerians who thought I am mean because they have to work for every penny. You are not paid to come and have a chitchat at work or spend 5 hours on something that could take you 3 hours to do. I will say if you can't change your work ethics and try to integrate into the Canadian system please stay back in your country. I have also seen people who have been clouded with that high life they lived back home and find it difficult to Start at the bottom. Even if you are living a good life in Nigeria, Canada is a better place to live if you can unlearn some things and relearn other things.\nAnd is there systemic racism? The answer is YES. If our leaders treat us right, 80 percent of our people won't leave their country. Let's hold our government responsible not the north American government or their people.

All I can say...Live and let live. You will never be able to stop people moving around even if you tell them your own life experience. We always think we'll do thing differently. I myself been moving around and living in different Western countries, and despite the difficulties, I don't regret anything. There is no such thing like a perfect country and even if it's your country of birth....Just try to be satisfied with what you have....But now it's true the golden age of immigration to western countries is gone. Unless you are qualified, it's a serious gamble to immigrate to try your luck.....

As a second generation Nigerian immigrant (parents were born in Nigeria and I was born in the US). I 100% agree w/ his perspective. I’ve spent consider amount of time in Nigeria w/ my side of the family that’s doing well and the other side that aren’t. Aboard should only be for people who have no opportunity back home as in they have tried everything and nothing worked for them. If you are doing well in Nigeria, try and give birth to your kids in the US so they can retrieve citizenship. There is no reason a successful person back home should sell their things and move aboard even for kids as you can send them aboard to receive an education and help them gain citizenship and from their they can file for you. The amount of systemic racism, odd jobs you will have to work (God forbid you don’t have a degree and you move aboard for non degree purposes that’s when aboard will show you pepper), cost of surviving is expense here especially now as inflation is high. It’s just not benefiting especially if you were better off in Nigeria. However, this shouldn’t stop you from coming just know that the road isn’t easy and some places are worse than others. I’ve never been to Canada but have been to the UK and by far would advice anyone from back home to avoid UK at all cost. Not even sure how Nigerians are even making it there lol (it’s a never ending cycle of poverty plus citizenship is very difficult to gain and the discrimination in my opinion is much worse than the US. UK society has a class system and it only really empowers British people. The UK is so bad that they even discriminate against Eastern Europeans that should let you know a lot.) Also why do you think most Brits Nigerians come back to Naija hoping to secure job compared to American Nigerians and let me tell you it’s not because the UK is close to Nigeria, there is a true lack of opportunity. There are more opportunity in the US and possibly Canada compared to the Europe.

So all these people are trying to enter the United States with just the clothes on their backs. They want the American dream. The problem here is everybody is blaming these poor people that want to come over for a better life and opportunity to get away from a corrupt government that has them in poverty, with no hope of prospering! But we look at it in this country as troublemakers coming across the border and that’s not the case not to say that there’s not people that won’t make for trouble who are in that crowd but overall just good, hard-working people who are getting ready to probably be treated very poorly once they get here And if that’s not enough, but you can never fault someone for picking up a job. Americans won’t do and trying to make their way under the most heinous of circumstances. Maybe we are the ones that need a heart check❤ there are things that people have had to go through to be in this country for a normal life like floating on a raft for over a week or walking through 100° desert ? mountainous, terrain with children, risking their lives, or having to cross tumultuous rivers, Some will never know the hardships and the desperation, that others have had to endure in this life just for a hope of the better tomorrow less the sorrow ?❤ we take things for granted in this country not realizing that we truly are the Promised Land that everyone is seeking ❤

The arbitrary aspect of the immigration system is the most depressing aspect of living here in the US. I guess when the system was implemented it may have had some use (such as being impartial to everyone by employing a lottery system) but these systems are pretty outdated at this point and only a leverage for political parties to throw gang signs at each other talking about how bad immigration is. I also don’t think anyone wants to solve immigration problems really, I mean even some of the nicest local people I know throw their hands up like “I don’t know” and I think it’s because immigration suffers from the same thing that many other problems suffer from and that is a lack of focus. Illegal immigration takes up so much time and space that fixing legal immigration seems like a daunting challenge and not at all worth trying. If I were a betting person I would never hedge my bets on immigration, I just need to have the time to digest and understand a lot of knowledge about how immigration helps me and my country. It’s honestly up to the Government imo to give it the proper fix it deserves but, again, why bother if it doesn’t help?

I love how theyre literally dying to come to a free market capitalist society mean while you have these dumbass people on the left trying to turn this into the same thing theyre dying to get away from...a socialist, communist, Marxist country. We should just trade them for all the people who want Communism.

Wish I saw this earlier. The sad thing is there are forces in Canada trying to mess things up (e.g. those pushing for more private health care) but thankfully people are pushing back. Oh and to answer the question, NFW would I ever move to the USA. No offence intended of course : )

I couldn’t agree more with the latter half of the video. As a person with a computer science degree, who has worked for a few years in Canada, I am very frequently thinking about trying to get a job somewhere in the US… I also can’t stand the long winters but that’s another thing entirely

I think one thing this video fails to mention is to why the system is the way it is. Saying 'broken' doesn't mean anything. It's really this was as an attempt (maybe a poor one) to make things more fair. There are so many people trying to come to America it's almost impossible to make it happen for everyone. And taking in only highly skilled people is also not an answer.

You may have Disney Land (and World) but I live in the original Disney Land which is Huron County, Ontario, Canada as Walt and Roy's dad and grandfather were originally from Bluevale, now Morris-Turnberry Township here in Huron County. Elias Disney went to school in Goderich, my home town (which is now the building housing the Huron County Museum) and Walt Disney confirms this in an interview on CBC Television and so does the Disney Family Museum in California and our Huron County Museum. 24 years ago this summer (July 30, 2023 being the date of this comment) Disney's parade made its way through our town's streets, I was 14 then. The Disney family even has some connected history with our salt mine, the largest operating salt mine on the planet with hoist shafts as deep as the CN tower is tall (roughly 553 m or half a kilometre or less than 1/3 of a Mile) and also had a sawmill, probably close to my first home as a kid outside of Holmesville, Ontario, but I digress.\n\nAs I have stated, I'm Canadian and while I admire some things about your country, I wouldn't live there due to the lack of regulations on firearms (I don't mind people owning guns but they should be qualified and certified with a licence of owning, storing and using them and prohibitions on assault rifles and even semi-automatic weapons) and the lack of universal healthcare. Canada could be doing better as we have those in government trying to privatize our system further and breaking the laws doing it but the Feds aren't really doing anything either. At least we do have healthcare but there are still private systems in place, particularly for optical, dental, pharma and other systems. I also don't care for the American's lack of serious training for police, private prisons and the fact that slavery is alive and well there as well as your politicians' and citizens' insistence on keeping and maintaining capital punishment.

8:15 there’s a reason for this. It’s a melting pot in America. Bringing all these different cultures together… but if too many from one country show up, they’ll make a community too large that they don’t need to melt with the population. There are Chinatowns and Little Italys and whole Mexican communities, but ultimately everyone has to interact with everyone else. Allowing 300,000 Indians to get green cards every year and only 1,000 Norwegians would lead to the Norwegians merging well with the country, while the Indians would all move to one or two cities and make entire sections of the cities like small versions of their own country. Which is the last thing we want. Once an immigrant community gets enough power to be a voting block, things are scary, but once it has enough power that they start getting their own representatives and passing laws for the rest of us? Laws the look like laws they had back in their own countries… that led them to run from their countries in the first place? It’s a concern. We want people to adapt to the USA and not try to adapt the USA to them. Over time, the US does change due to the growing voting blocs. But that’s after generations of those immigrant populations getting larger, and their children being born and raised in the country they’ve adapted to. When I see a protest of Muslim immigrants burning pride flags, or Chinese and Spanish-speaking Hispanic immigrants who never bothered to learn English, I see problems with our immigration system. But the kids of the Arab immigrants will be more tolerant, and the Hispanic kids will have grown up in American schools. Most Chinese-American kids might speak some Chinese at home with their parents, but they’re worse at it, and their first language is English. It takes second Generation immigrants to really start meshing with America. But if entire school districts are all Indian, and every store, restaurant, and business in a whole town is Indian, then those kids won’t adapt to America. They won’t get bits of their home culture from their time at home and with their neighbors, while also getting bits of American culture from their classmates and other people around them. Nope. They’ll only be exposed to the first Generation who completely took over the area- IF, we allowed for unfettered immigration from the largest countries. It’s a fact that immigrant communities like to stick together. But if not enough people are in that community that you need to reach out to others around you, it helps expose you to the rest of America… Anyway! There are a ton of shows that indirectly show this phenomena. Fresh Off the Boat. The Sopranos. Even Brooklyn 99. We see as traditional and hard-to-adapt parents have to deal with kids in the next generation who are more American, don’t follow the same customs and traditions as their parents, and overall just left more of their old culture behind. No one is asking that immigrants abandon their cultural ties, but if you come to America, there are things that people need to change and accept if they’re going to live here.

I could only think of one thing while listening to Sanjay’s story. Why wouldn’t he just marry an American? Like it really is not that hard, im sure there are countless Americans who would be more than willing to do it as a favor, or maybe simply try falling in love? lol Like it’s not that big of a deal, just marry a friend from college or a hobo and divorce after getting the green card, or find an old person who’s lonely. This is partly joking, but honestly is not a terrible option
