Well said, both US and Canada are all the same thing, it’s a circle. Start again and go back to school when you relocated to diasporas my dear. Not much difference until you get to a higher level like management in your career then a little change can occur.. Please keep enlighten our people at home so they will know the importance of building our home and prevent traveling abroad except going to school and return back home to use that knowledge learn to building their home country… There’s no place like home, we’re blessed in Africa but lack the knowledge of knowing what we have or to develop that country for generations to come….

The truth is that if Nigeria doesn’t get better, even the few that said they will return back home will never return. Cos if you plan to come back in your old age, have you forgotten that old age is a time when you desperately need good health care to ensure you live a healthy life? who will provide that good health care if you are in Nigeria? So I tell you people, if this country Nigeria don’t do better, no one will be returning. Cos you can’t work all your life in the US or Canada only to retire to a shit hole country to die, no one will do that. You Guys even have opportunity for a medical care. In Africa they are not sure of the medical care. They do not have money for the medical care and they ended up on self medication which is not good. Things are also hard. People dies for no good reason. Graduates does not have employment. We know that no place like home but it is only for the Home where System works, where life is respected and valued etc. Experience they said is the best Teacher. I rather advise people to have an experience. What worked for A may not work for B. What you people said is the same thing every where. If Africa become better by the grace of God, people will go back home. Home is where you found your Comfort.

Everything you have said resonates with a lot of people who live in many different countries around the world. That's because your observations make sense. Only thing, though, is that your reflections harken back to the beginning of time. People have always struggled to survive regardless of where they happened to live on planet earth. Life is tough. As you know, there isn't a perfect place to live. But, yes, by all means look for places where you'll likely find the lifestyle you want. Absolutely! What I have found is that you'll experience a lot of trade offs. For instance, instead of having to deal with cold, rainy weather, you can find a warm and sunny place, but there will be a constant threat of earthquakes or wild fires. Again, keep looking for that special place, and maybe that process, the process of dreaming and seeking, will be a way of experiencing your paradise (vicariously) -- as dreams can provide things that we can only hope for in reality. In any case, I wish you well!

First of all I'm guessing you are in Toronto or Vancouver or Calgary maybe Montreal, The most expensive places in Canada to Live for sure. I live in Manitoba where the cost of living is pretty close to the cheapest in Canada. Yes minimum wage is $11.95 and apparently going up shortly. She's switching companies soon since she found an even better opportunity elsewhere and is already making steps getting me on the team. She starts the hiring process in August.\n\nShe said I should fix a holiday visa and that if the company is still happy with me after 12 months they would most likely sponsor my stay. Do you need anything from us? And that was...an experience I never had before in my life. Oh this is how every Indian official gov workers behaves, at least 90% of them. While we don't know the full version here, I'll share mine.\nI've waited for hour outside the entrance door along with others where we don't have waiting chairs so had to sit on steps where people pass by even though we all came at the right time that was written on our papers. Then I had to wait about 3 more hours for my appointment chance and then they checked my docs and decided that I don't have two particular doc which isn't even that important these days, but he didn't say that at once, we got first doc and then he said I need another doc. so I had to wait for 3 more hours to get mine as (we had to go to school and get that doc) while all other people like those grandparents, job applicants and farmers got their passports and visas. *sighing*\nI still remember the attitude of that officer, It's like he was just there and I was just waiting his time, and he was just reminding me that his work time was about to be done and that he needs to go. \nI don't understand how the gov offices works, we have tons of population and of course tons of applications that needs to be done for work, yet the gov office working hours just 6-6.5 hours? I am a British Columbian who briefly lived in Quebec, when the army posted me there for basic, I have to say Quebec is horrible, outside of Montreal, if you do not speak French. So here is the thing about what you have said about retraining and going back to school over here in Canada..\nMy wife has spent ten years going to universities in BC becoming a counselor but now we have moved to BN they want her to spend another 4 years proving to someone in NB that she can do the job she has been doing for 15 years , oh and she is a Canadian!\nI have 20 years experience as a plumber even before I moved to Canada, I prove this to the canadain goverment I can do my job get my visa. Then you have to do this all over again because the unions are really in charge over here, they dont want people like me moving here from the UK taking their jobs as they put it...\nWhy say to someone that, hey you can come over as you are exactly what we need! then tell them they have to go back to Collage and sit more exams and do schooling all over again.. a lot can be said about your narrative. you failed to mention the age of immigration. That alone is THE single most important factor on the out come of the exercise . anyone over 40 should not immigrate. second the education and skill set you bring will be a major factor in the out come. Third there is systemic racism after a certain level which one can feel in very job. i strongly believe one should come to Canada, get top quality education and skill, work with top quality people/organizations which should not be more than 5-6 years, then go back home. the long term price of immigration is huge. This country needs hands to work and pay taxes so that their show should go on. Racism is more in the open now, I am a senior and really do not know what words they use to discriminate these days, however my husband and I were walking in Walmart one day, then in between the aisles a disabled youth was walking with his mother and was coming towards us, then he said look, look a cockroach and pointed at us. My husband looked at me and I looked at him, no one else around,we realized he was calling us cockroach, needless to say, we thought hmmm, that person could hardly walk and he is calling us cockroach. We walked out of the store totally shocked. I was later told young people are getting their info from the dark web. We called it ignorance and left it that.

I don't really understand one of experiences during my visit in Canada, I am a HongKonger and one time when I was visiting Toronto, some people with different ethnic background made a comment on my English, they said my English was good. But the fact that there are tons of Chinese/Hong Kong looking people living Toronto who speak perfect English or better than me. I really don't get this, those people who made comment are Indian, Russian, even Canadian born Chinese, they didn't even know I was just a visitor. I don't know much about the standard/definition of racism in Canada, is this incidence considered some kind of racism/stereotype? I am humbly asking for your perspectives on this.

A small step but really great . You would think we as human with our high intelligence could know how closely related we all are but for some strange reason we cannot understand. I remember working in Macy’s and one day I was talking to a co-worker and I was saying how science has proven at one point or another everyone came from Africa . She said maybe me but not her. This is so frustrating. I spent twelve years in the apartment industry and went through literally hundreds of hours of Fair Housing Training. I was given test shoppers on numerous occasions, just like every other property manager I knew and I always passed with flying colors because I stuck to a script and said everything the same way, even with the same tone of voice, every time. It didn't matter who was in front of me, my job was more important than anything else and that meant absolutely no possibility of discrimination. Here in the US, management companies and even the individuals onsite can be held monetarily responsible if testers find them to be discriminatory. It is very disappointing to see property staff making such bluntly poor choices. We all know better in that industry. This is the 21st century, we should be beyond this.

Many, many years ago my bf and I were in Shoppers Drug Mart. We are both black and was there to buy contraceptives. He was in one aisle and I was shopping in another. After we bought our items their security followed us down the mall, stopped us, grabbed his arm and started leading him back to the store. They brought us to the back. They accused him of stealing. Made him empty his pockets and bag. When she didnt find anything, she said sorry and let us go. We couldn't tell our parents because at the time they didnt know we were sexually active. The security officer's boss offered us a $25 gift certificate- we didnt take it. I still hate going into their store.
