Canadian immigration is basically a ponzi scheme, they invite migrants, they end up spending all their savings and realising the life is unaffordable and leave.

We dont need immigrants we need to help the ppl already in here these kids have been lied to for there parents money whats messed up most will just ended up going back as a tims worker and its sad after all the money spent

As a African living in Canada, l can only say that life is hard everywhere however, there has been an influx of Africans coming here as visitors and then claiming refugee status. The system is overwhelmed and these people, if they have no money or familial support, will end on streets. Secondly, most immigrant go Toronto, they do not consider other provinces where resources are not as strained hence the homeless situation. Be smart, do your research and consider other regions, NWT, Nova Scotia, Saskachewan etc. Ontario is flooded!!

As many people has said in the comments section. Foreign countries are not easy especially for new immigrants. One has to have the right documentation to be able to live and work. People definitely has to do their research before paying those agents thousands of dollars and empty promises about Canada. Jobs are there but you have to be skilled, otherwise one will end up in factory Jobs where they pay minimum wages making it extremely difficult to make ends meet.

Moving blind ... I went to canada over 20 times in a course of several years. The key to make it in canada is to have the correct paper work. When i was ready to move to canada i got an immigration lawyer. I had funds and was willing to move. Lets say i didnt and ended up in europe. Canada is amazing country full of opportunities but with you the papers it will be a nighmare. There js more to this story about being stranded

Hi Lynn, this is a very interesting conversation. I moved to Canada in 2003 went to college and became a nurse. First of all it was not easy paying for college I was lucky that husband was supporting with the bills as I went to school. So I would say that I have skills that are very marketable. Our combined family income was over $100,000 CAN. We mortgaged our first home which was very basic for a LOT of money. We had our kids and we had to struggle with childcare as most young families do. By North American standard, we were doing good. We each had a good car ( loaned), we made trips to Kenya every so often but in 2016 we decided we wanted to move back home and we sold our home and we did. I HAVE NO REGRETS. There were several things that made us reach our decision. First, I truly believe that for the Canadian system to work as it does, it has to entrap its residents. Even after 10 years of work we did not have money in the bank. Everything we owned really belonged to the bank. The light bulb moment for me came when I evaluated my net worth. A primary school teacher in Kenya after 10 years of work with good financial management will own a plot, a simple house and will start to invest for retirement. After 10 years of work, there wasn't much in the account, our house would need 25 years to finish paying mortgage and to be honest there wasn't much to show for those years of work. Quality of life really sucks the amount of stress will definitely send you to the grave sooner. This is the case for most first generation immigrants. You might say you are sacrificing and building a future for your children but, my observation was since our diaspora children have not grown in Kenya to see the need for money and what life really looks like without the comforts they are used to, they do not have the same drive as the parents so they often do not excel they are just ordinary. There is also the struggle of growing up as a minority group. A lot of our children because they are seeking acceptance will struggle with self esteem, will have depression or will join the LGBTQ community where they get sense of belonging regardless of their colour. The morals are also different from their parents and they are shaped by the society they grow up in. When I looked at what my life would look like if we kept living there, lets say we eventually pay off our mortgage, when we are old and requiring care, our children will not be able to support themselves and support us because they have to work to sustain themselves so we would to move to assisted living or nursing homes. The cost of senior care is not covered by the government unless you have no money. so we have to sell out home which would be old and outdated but still very expensive and we would have to pay $5000-$10000 per month depending on the type of care we need. so as you can see if we ended in a nursing home for 5 years we will have depleted all the money we made from the sale of our home. So by the time we die, we would not have money to leave for our children. So we worked really hard, supported the economy, and die leaving not much at all for our children, we sacrificed our quality of life, and ended up with children who don't think much of themselves or have very distorted morals. I still remember in my mind as we drove to the airport on our way back to Kenya, I thought of the story of Lot. He was pretty successful in Sodom but I'm very sure on his death bed he had lots of regrets why he ever went there. I know its tough being in Kenya but if you have a job or any way to make ends meet, be like Abraham. God will bless you regardless of whether you are in the dessert.

When you immigrate, to get any Govt service like a Driving License, School admission, and even a job, you need a social security/insurance number. That number is pegged on your entry visa. If you are a visitor, you have to convince the Govt why they should let you work? If you are a student, it is limited the number of hours you work. Any employer is obligated to employ only those with credentials. If you are coming for work, like Nurses do, employers will have done your paperwork. Green cards are one legal way to immigrate. If you have legal papers, you make your way around without issues. Cost of living varies on location. As for skills, you need them, get them over time. There are good and bad stories, even locals who mess up end up in crap like an illegal immigrant would.

It's hard if you move through the legal paths work or as a student. It's going to alot harder trying to immigrate as a tourist and trying to claim refugee status or converting to a work permit. I don't think people should blame Canada or the Canadian govt. if they are already breaking immigration laws. People need to do their due diligence. At the end of the day an agent is only interested in what's they are earning from you

Hi, I am also from Zimbabwe, and I have lived in both Australia and Canada. I left Australia 2009 because I felt the place was not an open society. In Canada job opportunities can also be tricky for immigrants. I moved back to Australia after 10 years in Canada. At the end of the day the choose is yours but the grass is not always greener on the other side. Calgary is just identical to Perth. I would advise you to live in Toronto. In Australia I live in Melbourne now.

Honestly, I think we should just end or vastly limit the H1B1 visas even more. We have companies using H1B1 to not hire blacks and latinos in the United States, especially in Tech. The rights to employment should be citizens first, and immigrants in a far far far far distant second.

US is far better for individuals who wants to grow and work on themselves. I lived in US for 2 years and I got the best education learned a lot and met one of the most ambitious people. I always was motivated to do more. US boosted my education and career. Unfortunately I couldn’t stay there due to immigration issues. I moved to Canada and I am here for almost 5 years now and I am still struggling just to make ends meet. Every day I am looking for ways to get out of here back to US or elsewhere. Legalization of drugs, prohibitably expensive housing, poor access to health care, lack of availability of well paying jobs, massive intake of immigrants, overtaxation and fewer businesses opportunities. Canada was great place to live back in 1990s and early 2000s. Everything is going downhill after 2018. Immediately they need to fix immigration, taxation, healthcare, housing, drugs, and support small businesses.Else, Canada will continue to be the place of broken dreams.

I'm a cosmetic surgeon living in Sydney Australia. I'll be totally honest. You can delete my post or you can except the truth.\nI've been too & have friend & colleagues who have migrated to Toronto from Sydney. Toronto is very similar to Sydney. It has some of the most exspensive housing in the world. Canada & Australia's economy is based on economic growth through mass immigration. The cost of this policy, means you also need to restrict development & zoning regulations to artificially keep properties high. Governments need make your population continually, working as slaves, to pay for basic costs, of a largely welfare dependent society. While your a debt slave, you don't spend your money on foreign products, as you have very little in the way of exsports, to pay for imports. The upside to this, you have many slaves to pay for the never ending welfare, as you have a policy of supporting refugees, single parents & the disabled, over self reliance & responsibility. Mental health issues are largly created by society, they are very rarely genetic. The high cost of living, means, you cant afford families. No strong family ties means, poor mental health issues. When you outsource, what familes once did, like help the the elderly, support your unemployed brother & have children. Replace all what families did with government welfare, instead of families helping each other, replace reproduction with mass immigration. You end up creating enormous problems in society. Problems with mental health & crime.\nNow for your modelling career. In Japan, your a novelty, as you have a different look to the Japanese. However in Canada, for your age what are your best features. You only have one. You have very good skin. However your face shape, is slightly disproportionate, basically, meaning your just an average shape face. You could also work on going to the gym, as your not toned. So basically as a whole, for your age group, your slightly above average, say a 6 out of 10, which is not all that good as 60% of Canada's population are overweight. Now as a model, you need to compete with people who are younger & better proportioned 7,8 & 9's. No such thing as a 10.

If an African professional from Nigeria regrets coming to Canada you that you've come to frozen outhouse that simply won't give you the opportunity to make your dreams come true. European immigrants that come to Canada end up going back home because the cost of living will overwhelm your income and maintain you in poverty. Only immigrants from the most destitute countries want to remain, but once too many of them congregate in a place the social environment becomes just the same as the place they come from. Honestly the only thing i see needing to change is the weird country divide thing. We dont want to overflow our nation with immigrants as that would directly relate to higher housing costs (more people dividing the same number of houses makes costs go up) and it may not be 100% directly related but Canada's unemployment rate is about 150% higher than that of the US which could be due to the immigration, more research would need to be done. Lastly we have a big issue of illegal immigration and we need to get that under tighter control before we become top focused on fixing the other end. If you have a boat with a leak in it you should be more concerned with fixing the leak than if you have enough supplies for your trip.

Seriously are they coming to study or finding a loophole to gain immigration. Crying doesn't help all International students know before hand what they are ending up in, its a rat hole. 90% of the students do not even have money to support themselves then why do you come here. They enroll in colleges but are seen working either under the table cash jobs and sending money back home. We Canadian's have had enough of these sad stories. Please don't come to study. 85-90% of Canada’s immigration for the last 5 years have come from ONE country- INDIA. Diversity is a myth, it’s no longer a representation of global citizens, it’s basically Indian mass migration. This is all verified and public knowledge in census Canada, look it up. 2 million Indians immigrants NOT including “students” which bumps the number to 4.5 million Indians are now legal immigrants. In 10 years at this rate 35% of Canada’s population are Indians. Predominately HINDU and Sikhs. Please explain to me where is the diversity? I’m from a country that has 0.001% representation. I would have the same advice for anyone thinking about immigrating to America at this time. If you are somewhat stable where you are, stay there. The cost of living here is rising dramatically, and the crime rates seem to be as well. It's work, work, work, and at the end of the day there's no money remaining.

As an older person who migrated decades ago after protesting in my old country, I encourage young people below 45 to FIGHT for your countries. Fight bad goverments. 7 billion people on the planet cannot move to the few western countries that seem to work and appear attractive on the surface, it’s not possible. A pharmacist has to fill anything between 200 to 350 prescriptions, give a certain number of immunizations and see a certain No of patients per day. There is no time for niceties! A corporate professional May work remotely but has to deliver on so many projects he is up till 10pm and only gets up to eat. We have beautiful homes, drive nice cars etc but MUST work like the clock in an assembly line fashion! Most of us pay so much of our income as taxes we end up with less than 70% as paychecks! Things aren’t always what they seem!

As a second generation Nigerian immigrant (parents were born in Nigeria and I was born in the US). I 100% agree w/ his perspective. I’ve spent consider amount of time in Nigeria w/ my side of the family that’s doing well and the other side that aren’t. Aboard should only be for people who have no opportunity back home as in they have tried everything and nothing worked for them. If you are doing well in Nigeria, try and give birth to your kids in the US so they can retrieve citizenship. There is no reason a successful person back home should sell their things and move aboard even for kids as you can send them aboard to receive an education and help them gain citizenship and from their they can file for you. The amount of systemic racism, odd jobs you will have to work (God forbid you don’t have a degree and you move aboard for non degree purposes that’s when aboard will show you pepper), cost of surviving is expense here especially now as inflation is high. It’s just not benefiting especially if you were better off in Nigeria. However, this shouldn’t stop you from coming just know that the road isn’t easy and some places are worse than others. I’ve never been to Canada but have been to the UK and by far would advice anyone from back home to avoid UK at all cost. Not even sure how Nigerians are even making it there lol (it’s a never ending cycle of poverty plus citizenship is very difficult to gain and the discrimination in my opinion is much worse than the US. UK society has a class system and it only really empowers British people. The UK is so bad that they even discriminate against Eastern Europeans that should let you know a lot.) Also why do you think most Brits Nigerians come back to Naija hoping to secure job compared to American Nigerians and let me tell you it’s not because the UK is close to Nigeria, there is a true lack of opportunity. There are more opportunity in the US and possibly Canada compared to the Europe.

Very nice conversation. Canada has opportunities for those who are capable to grab it. I was in real estate developments for 6 years during 2011-2018 started with $80k down payment. Until I build my 4000sqft home in Bluffs area in Toronto built few houses. It was a stressful time for many incidents. Dealing with City, contractors, finances is very delicate. All it needed patience and hard working to overcome the every challenges. When I ended up the trade after building my house during the pandamic using all the gains around $1.6m from the houses that I have built and sold. I realized I made $4m which is worth my mortgage free house. So, it is a journey from $80k to $4m in 8 years.. I witnessed many immigrants from South Asia got involved in the real estate construction and many has made few million dollars..\n\nTherefore, I would say to the new generation. Do not give up your hope but make sure you work hard and look for opportunities though it has become hard during these days..

The way they are desperately trying to get in is just sad. As a immigrant who has been a citizen for over a decade, I can only imagine the fear and stress they are having. Most of these people are coming with families, and it’s dangerous what they are doing here. Not entirely accurate. It's pro-wealthy immigration here in Canada absolutely. It's citizenship for sale. Not necessarily wealthy in terms of really wealthy (like Switzerland) but it's definitely citizenship for sale, so if you don't have money, don't bother. Newcomers with medical and engineering expertise can't get jobs here in Canada, in spite of our healthcare system being on the point of collapse and our supposed hi-tech push. Regulatory boards here have made it impossible. Estimates are around 175000 qualified, internationally trained doctors and nurses who gave up trying to practice here and moved into other careers. Ukrainian doctors, for eg, with extensive trauma experience and willing to staff our emergency departments have been told they have to requalify by going to Canadian medical school to retrain for at least 4 years. Same story in engineering. By IT, our government seems to mean low-paid call center IT work, moving the IT sweatshop racket from India onto Canadian soil. If you can afford to buy a business - I believe the total business investment was 500 000 pre-pandemic - that's another way in. Not sure if thats gone up now. So many of our franchise businesses are essentially being used as citizenship tickets. The big ticket item: If you can afford 4 years of postgraduate or undergrad university program, or 3 to 4 year college program - and if you don't have the cash, loan sharks in India will distribute debt across the whole family for decades so one student can go . There us a very good documentary by an Indian filmmaker on the Canadian college/University recruitment drive in India and its consequences. Several of our colleges have student enrollments at over 70% of the entire student body, direct entry from India. Additional problems like grade inflation, different education standards, and outright fraud on ESL testing also mean that Indian students are not well prepared for school here. Many do not have enough English to succeed in their studies. They either need to spend for additional tutoring, take a qualifying year or two ESL (on top of the 3 or 4 program), or fail courses. Universities and colleges keep the tuition though. Honestly our colleges and universities are staying afloat because of Indian students. They're being treated like cash cows - and Indian recruiters are scamming the system, taking fees on their end with unsuspecting students getting falsified documents, or being told they passed their ESL when they didn't. It's a national disgrace. I'm a prof here, I've seen all of this firsthand. Your data may be correct, but the narrative you've constructed for it is not the real picture.

House prices have increased because of businesses and law firms investing in the housing market. Ask your landlord who owns the house. They knew the market trend with the immigrants surging in. Brain drain comes from companies in Canada hiring immigrants with education, and accept lower wages. Americans work harder because they get paid more and know most of it does not go to tax. In Canada, its better to not work overtime because you get put into another tax bracket and you end getting pennies on the dollar. Nobody mentions the Colonial political system we have. This is very sad..... but honestly, we can't afford to support thousands of immigrants!! I believe in helping all, but this swelling of migrants can't be accepted. \nWe need consistent laws to avoid this \ndisruption. \nI don't agree with our current administration , we need order..\nI'm a third generation and find what's happening at the southern border must end .

I'm not an immigration expert or an economist, but the problem with Canada isn't our immigration system, but WHAT the immigrants do afterwards. Sure, we take in hundreds of thousands of them...but for what jobs? Is Canada, for example, a truly dynamic tech hub? At one point yes, but only briefly and it seems like that process has stalled out considerably since the pandemic.\nDo we have the infrastructure for all of these people or are we adding hundreds of thousands of new competitors for housing? We have population growth, but the wages are so uncompetitive that it increasingly feels like Canada is inviting immigrants in to build the country...but Canadians have to create things for them to build or else, this doesn't really work, and these highly mobile, educated people will end up leaving (which is already a problem).

Canada has another problem that you forgot to cover. Canada isn't an entrepreneurial nation like America. Canadians are less risk taking compared to Americans which means you can have an influx of immigrants but less jobs for them therefore they will leave back to their own countries again. Most of the top employers of engineers in Canada are foreign companies, not local. Salaries in America are high due to the immense labor competition for engineers as there are more startups and entrepreneurial people. \n\nThen in Canada they require certain Canadian certifications especially for doctors which isn't as bad as in the US. So you have some engineers or doctors that end up working low paid jobs since they would have to repeat school in Canada from an accredited Canadian university. I don't see this as a problem for the US at all because these immigrants aren't going to create new companies and are merely looking for a job. Canadians not being as entrepreneurial and not starting companies to compete for the talents of these professionals will just result in these professionals working out of the Canadian offices of American and Asian tech companies.\n\nOverall not a win or loss for America. Even if these guys end up working in the Canadian division of American companies, American companies will still have the benefit of their talent which is a win at a lower cost for the US companies.

Sometimes I wish you were more direct about addressing motives of policies.\n\nWhen regarding the percentages of family to company-sponsored immigrants, you stated boldly an assumption about keeping immigrant families together as the US motive, while burying the point ,of trying to bring in wealthy immigrants (like Elon Musk) to the exclusion of the poors, right at the end without fanfare and straight into the sponsorship.

50,000 canadians leave the country for the United States every year. Canada has become a neoliberal nightmare - We are inclusive and tolerant, however immigrants are primarily here for cheap labour. Your considerable credentials will grant you express entry to these ends, and nothing more. Its a scam.

Lemme skip to the end and take a guess as to what's actually happening.\n\nIndians go to Canada first so they can get to their final destination, America, faster. Once they're Canadian citizens, they can apply for US green card and travel easily to America in the meantime. They can work and bide their time in Canada while working in America only having to return to Canada every six months or so instead of back to India.\nBottom line:\nEvery foreigner who goes through the trouble to become a US citizen (clearly worth all that trouble) should be absolutely against ALL illegal immigrants who just walk across the southern border and demand to stay.

I will just say, after our pop increased by 1mil last year due to immigration (including foreign students that still drive up housing as they need to be housed), I can tell that the approval of our current immigration rates are a bit too generous. Maybe the survey was taken only in downtown areas of Toronto or Vancouver, so its really only asking other immigrants if immigration is chill, but that isnt the consensus of the nation. We dont make more than Americans, but we are taxed more (aka why we want more immigrants to get more tax $), and everything costs more here: from housing to food to energy. Its driven up by the current unsustainable immigration quotas. I myself an am immigrant, but when my family and I immigrated 23 years ago, we only took in 20 000 people a year. I wouldnt have an issue on this at all if we were building enough. Enough housing and transit for everyone. enough good paying jobs for all these newcomers. But these people (with excellent degrees) are lied to at the border with a false promise of prosperity, and just end up being uber drivers to make ends meet. Its a truly broken system. If you arent making 150k/year, you are very much considered lower--middle class.

What’s missing is that, in Canada, foreign credentials and eduction are not recognized. Furthermore, it’s is extremely difficult to get into a university here. \n\nMost immigrants come as professionals from their previous home nation and end up driving Uber and running gas stations tills. Besides that, the video pretends Canada is this amazingly superior place when it comes to immigration when the left wing government wants to bring people in in the hopes that they will mainly vote liberal. In America in the 2020 election which way certain states went (such as Pennsylvania) came down to immigration. People have done studies and found if they threw citizenship at certain people they'd be voting around 70% Democrat. Where the government sets these people up also determines election outcomes. I don't want to live in a country where the government values immigrants for voting purposes more than the native population. That is a subversion of democracy. Imagine being born in America and living there your entire life. There are politicians that feel no obligation to change your mind and win your vote. Instead they look at you and those like you as people that are to have to their votes negated/canceled out by forcing another amnesty of illegal immigrants. They would rather reward criminals for their crimes to win an election than actually make a case for electing them to law abiding American citizens.

As someone who works within the immigration system in Canada, I feel you did a good job on this and presented this in a simple way that is consumable for most people. Obviously our system has its flaws and it is quite difficult for some people however at the end of the day it is a much more transparent and fair system.

Unfortunately the canadian feds dont provice the cities like toronto with enough funds to actually build new housing/infastructure for all the new immigrants because most of them end up here so things just get more $$$, just saw the polls at the end and they make me happy but I get the feeling this will soon change as lack of investment into infastructure and high prices gets worse

If/when the global immigration tides move away from America, a generational opportunity will have been lost. My path started with the J-1 visa, which has different nuts and bolts but in the end is largely similar to what you described (and did it SO well), plus a few more restrictions. One thing I would like to note is that Canada is not welcoming in only highly skilled workers. If you can work at a Tim Horton's you qualify. This has lead to a flood of new workers who HAVE to have a job in order to stay at a time where the existing labour pool is refusing work due to pay lagging far behind inflation for two decades. Those salaries discrepancies you listed are not exclusive to the tech sector, they are economy wide. Often you'll here talk of a labour shortage in Canada, but ask for the number of applicants to jobs and you quickly find out the reason no one accepted is because the full-time job offered requires a part-time job to barely make ends meet. \n\nAnother factor is that housing happens to be the bread and butter of ~40% of our MP's. Hell our Minister of Housing himself owns properties that have appreciated massively due to the lack of supply and high demand. He then goes on national TV and says high immigration will solve the housing crisis despite Canada already having over 4% of our entire labour force already in the construction industries (America is a little over 3%) and the men and women who build our houses being unable to afford the homes they build ($22.07/hr CAD average or ~$16.66 USD. compared to $22.29/hr USD). 14% of our national GDP is housing. 14% of our entire economy is just money changing hands internally with nothing of value made. \n\nThen you have the combo of landlords benefiting from the immigration programs who try and evict the tenants on their properties to replace them with immigrant labour. They then take the cost of rent right out of their salaries. The workers can't quit their jobs because if they don't have a job they are at risk of being deported and also loosing their homes so they end up shacking 8 to an apartment to try and make ends meet. This becomes the standard the rest of the economy has to meet. \n\nIt is a rare sight to see someone who is anti-immigrant in Canada, but the majority of people here understand that immigration is a problem the way it is currently run. You have people who come here hoping for a new life being forced to sleep outside under bridges because while they may have a job they don't have a home and the shelters are already 200% capacity. Tent cities are the norm in any major urban centre now. There are crack dens in Toronto that are the same price as Castles in the UK. And this problem is only going to get worse.

The thing is, Canada really isn't that big, given that almost the entire population lives in a tiny sliver of the geography, and Toronto and Vancouver have insane housing prices already. Expansive immigration policy without a similar plan for housing means thise immigrants will eventually end up in the US. And I am an immigrant from Canada to the US.
