Canada cannot be all things to all peoples. Immigrants have their own needs and priorities that they will seek other avenues/countries to satisfy. We should do what we can to get our own house in order. Once that is done, the decision to come to Canada will follow.

this is scary. we don’t even know who we’re letting into our own country. and with everything currently going on, who knows how many of them are sleeper agents or terrorists sent to destroy the country from within? especially with a vast majority of them being fighting age men? islamic extremists, terrorists, all people we’re letting cross into our country FREELY, and supporting and encouraging BETTER than our own citizens?!\n\nmany of them hate the very country, people, and values they’re illegally entering and eventually overpopulating and mass influencing. eventually these same people will hold positions of power, and the sheer number of them is absolutely overwhelming and can’t be ignored, with the number increasing each day our borders remain open, and security and stricter laws aren’t enforced. and with the constant display of weakness and incompetence from our “leaders”, they may just be emboldened. i’m afraid that one day, they may just rise up and commit mass terrorism. looting, murder, are all possibilities. and with the sheer number of them, we wouldn’t be able to do anything about it. they would be the ones in power now. thing is, our country supports and helps the illegals who hate them more than their own citizens. it’s absolutely treasonous. the longer our borders remain unprotected and wide open, their numbers will only increase, and so will their terrorism. \n\nnot only that, but the amount of illegals we constantly let in and those who are already in, are absolutely negatively impacting our country’s economy, living conditions, population is increasing, many of which are illegals and are a danger to our society, their numbers increasing by the day and taking over our country from within and them holding positions of power, homelessness and cost of living is rising, debt and inflation also keep rising, etc. it’s all bad. \n\nmass deportations must be enforced, but even then, im afraid that too many of them have already infiltrated the country. and considering how our own government hates us and spends billions on everything else BUT their own citizens. it’s not looking good and has huge potential to explode into something terrifying. \n\nthis is already a massive ongoing threat in america, and the possibility of it happening here in Canada becomes more likely the longer our borders are open, and the longer stricter laws and more protective and security measures aren’t being enforced. canada must be canada FIRST with the safety, security, and well-being of our citizens FIRST. \n\nthough with the constant numbers, and the continued ignorance, evil, and corruption in our government, i’m afraid they’re already here waiting for the right moment to strike us. \n\nthat’s why above all, we can’t rely on our leaders to do anything or bring us peace. the only one who can, is Jesus Christ. the one who gave His life for us and gave us the free gift of salvation. all we must do, is follow him, pick up our crosses, have faith in him, and have a relationship with him. \n\nwe must all repent of our sins and lovingly follow him. that is all that matters. I come from a very civilized country with a lot of education and history but awful economy. ?? I am myself educated but my country’s main salary is 700€/month and a descent one bedroom apt is the same price. There are no jobs no future if u don’t come from a rich fam. I am taking the brave decision to leave my country and loved ones and immigrate to Toronto. I Google ‘moving to Toronto’ and I only see videos that are pointing how awful is to leave in Toronto. I follow some UK based nurse Youtubers like Nanelle Griselda and some of them actually bought a house in the UK within one or two years of arriving as nurses or caregivers in the UK. The problem with the UK is that it takes too long to get papers. But these nurses that are recruited from Africa with working visas and jobs waiting are able to open a bank account, build credit and buy a house within a year. In Europe, language is a barrier that makes it hard for people to understand the system plus the immigration problem which makes it hard to make head way ?

Canada should concentrate more on its economy and citizens than world issues, so can be independent and not relied on other countries. I prefer the states. \nI've lived in a couple as I've said before and honestly.. it is better down there. \nI live in literally the most expensive city and Provence In Canada. \nI'm born and raised here and sure Americans have there problems but overall it was better everywhere I've lived in the states.\nHere it's just hidden by a smile.. \nWe've been known as a better country and lots of us can't admit it's as bad as it is here. I lived in the US for 4 years. I was 12 when I moved with my parents. I had a teacher who expelled me from school on my first day. I refused to do a pledge to their flag. The teacher went nuts. I said I was not pledging anything yo a flag of another country. The teacher then tried to tell me that I was lying and that Canada was a state, not a country, so I had been pledging my whole life. This was a teacher, and I did not know Canada was not part of the US. He called me a traitor and that I should be charged, then had me expelled. When I came back to Canada, I had to take an extra year of school because my grade 11 from the US was so far behind. The US school system was bizarre. The had clubs where people dressed like the military and marched around. They were taught to fire guns, and it was all part of school. They spend more time learning about their history and never learn about so much of it. It was like an oxymoron. The teacher did not know about the War of 1812, did not know that Washington was still trying to stay with in the British Crown even months before the end of their insurrection, and that Canada was a major contributor to the US moon race. It was a very confusing tome for me. Thing I had learned in elementary school, where just being taught in middle school, and other things were so far a head I did not follow like things about their Presidents. They could not spell, yet I got makered wrong for it and I found the teacher were either very nice or true demons, and they knew nothing but their own subject. I also felt like I was treated not as a student but as a criminal who had just not commented on a crime yet. Very strange.

I feel the same way about my hometown of Halifax. It's impossible to live here, now. It's impossible to live anywhere in Nova Scotia. Nova Scotians are poor. We are a poor province. We cannot afford 1M+ dollars for a three bedroom house. Common Nova Scotians just don't have that kind of money. Regular folks cannot afford a 5K/month mortgage. I live with my family in an apartment, with a leaky roof and cockroaches, in a decent neighbourhood, and it's 2160.00/month and I know this is a good deal in this city. Crime is rising here, as well, because jobs are disappearing and wages aren't increasing. I think this is country wide. We have a huge homeless problem in Halifax, and it is not following the past statistics. Most of the people living in tents have full-time jobs and families. But, there are literally thousands of empty houses. New appartments and condos get built, and there are no vacancies before the building is open. And not a single person is living in them. They get bought by out of province and out of country investors to fortify their investment portfolios. This is ridiculous. What is happening?

Canada, Australia not sure of others follow a point based system for their immigration. Now, good people, mjuange, English test it’s also a must including UK, especially if you’re going as a student or worker. I came to America like 6 years ago and I can attest that as they say yuesi is a land of opportunities it truly is,I didn’t come with the right documents as they say I came through visit visa so I had to follow the procedures that were required and within a very short time I was able to stand on my feet and found a job that was providing well for my family and myself and when I mean provide I was able to educate my 3 kids through university and daystar university and still be able to acquire some property all this being said and done am not very educated so it’s not about education it’s just being given a chance to do what I can do.have seen very old people who understand very little English going to school and doing the exam in health care,they are given an option of bringing someone who will interpret for you with the language you understand better my friend did her exam in kikuyu na akapita and so many others so I can confidently say this is land of opportunities.

Hi Lynn. First of, I would like to say that I'm such a huge fan of yours. Since you started at Tuko and still following to date. You are an inspiration to me and so many people out there. I love and respect what you stand for and your work. I completely resonate with everything you are about. Second, I've lived in Canada for over 30 years now. I am Eritrean and was born in Kenya. Moved to Canada when I was about 9 and have lived here since with my family. I have to say that for us, Canada has been a God Send. It has helped us in so many ways, and we are so grateful for the opportunities and life it has given my family. From health care to schooling and job opportunities. We also cane here in 1989. So times and cost of living was very different than it is now. Of course, times have changed now, and the economy and standard of living have too. There are pros and cons to everywhere we live in the world. Everyone is different and has different experiences. There are various factors that may affect everyone's perspectives and experiences when they come to Canada, whether it was a long time ago or recently. Some factors could be, weather, economy, feeling lonely ( no family), language barriers, support...etc. Change is not easy at all and can affect t your whole emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. Social life here is also not like it us back home...just alot of factors. People here work and work to make it. My mom brought us here as a single widowed mom. My sister and I were very young. But she was determined to give us a better life and worked her whole life, and it has paid off. It depends on how you look at everything and what your goal is. My mother was determined and made it happen and has raised us on her own very successfully. She loves Canada and appreciates it for everything it has done for us. Everyone's experiences are different. You have to do your research before coming and come with an open mind. Overall... Canada for us has been a blessing. \n\nI hope that helps somehow. What I know is yes life in Canada is hard for Canadian. \nThey always complain why immigrants keep coming.\nCanada has enough people to work here they don’t need you to come from out to work. \nWorking in Canada need good skills and Canadian diploma.\nBut cause people will continue to come anyway let me tell you what to do. \n1 . Be a refuge and process a permanent resident when you still in Africa by using HCR that one is good\n2 . Family members ho live in Canada and working can bring you true government. \n\n3 . Know where you are going to work, know your host company, if you can’t find out by yourself, please ASK people who have been there, they can help you. \n2: Use appropriate agents (can you use eligible organizations instead of these one to one agent’s?) \n3: Make sure you follow the government procedures guys!!! (This keeps you on a safer place!!!!!!) many people skip this in the name of ‘janja janja’ just to get there. But if you follow the procedures and do the paperwork, guys huwezi tu kuenda mahali.\n4: KNOW YOUR HOST COMPANY! (Do research ? make sure it’s a legal company), UNDERSTAND YOUR CONTRACT before you choose to travel. Please this is very important. You can seek deep information about what you are going to do, information is everywhere guys. SEEK information. Sadly everything you shared is pretty accurate. I got got followed to my work place by a stranger I met in the TTC streetcar. He proceeded with attempted to assault me in the building of my workplace. This left me traumatized for months, thank goodness I overcame my fear of riding the TTC. On the question of rent, it’s insane it actually may force some people to stay in bad situations just so they can maintain the living conditions they are accustomed to like staying in toxic relationships or terrible roommate situations…etc. I did get very lucky, moving in 2022 from living with a roommate to living on my own in a bachelor same area and really nice area in Mimico by the Lake for a rent of only $1400. Simply because my landlords are an old couple not greedy at all who prioritize having a good tenant over making extra cash but having to deal with different tenants every few months just because people cannot sustain the increase of living in Toronto plus paying their bills and rent. So there is hope, if you can find a landlord that has these values you won the lottery. I’m hoping things change for the better in Toronto, there’s no reason why the city cannot tackle all these issues in a more efficient way. But like sometimes I think of moving to a smaller city and if it weren’t for my current rent which is very low for the time we’re in, I would have moved to a cheaper province a long time ago. Why is it when things get bad people just run away? Nothing will improve in this world if everyone is just running away from the problems. The solution is to stay put and do what you can to resolve the problem. Otherwise, the problems will just follow you and may even multiply.

We NEED to crack down on false requests for asylum grants. I've seen folks on Facebook basically suggesting people abroad hire a lawyer and apply to become a refugee. That shouldn't be as simple as that. People need to provide PROOF and an investigation must follow up

What you mentioned about in being in your 20s and trying to follow Bill Shatner down to Hollywood - very few actors strike the big time and that’s after a lot of work and if you’re ever on strike, your income wouldn’t last very long! Now you can be an independent content creator and reach more people than through the traditional path of moving to New York to get established in Broadway and then going to Los Angeles and hoping someone notices you and recruits you to a studio. About Toronto, it was once a gateway towards becoming Canadian. Not so much anymore. As a city it has all kinds of things to see, do, eat and be entertained yet its very expensive! Definitely not for the first time visitor and thanks for the overview of the financial and cultural capital of Canada!

We all need to understand this is all political between both countries. If the Governments would have wanted to fix it, it would have been fixed years and centuries ago. But nooooo, they won’t because they used it for political matters they don’t care about anyone. This is a never ending perennial controversy. I really cannot understand why he bothered to come to Canada, if things are so good at home. Many people send their children over without having to leave Nigeria (for example, politicians) Some people don't do their research or count the costs before they make the leap, the just follow the bandwagon. Canada is good if you are wise. I I share my take on this whole topic on my channel where I talk about moving back to Nigeria and the truth no one told me. To each his own.

I have been living in Nigeria since past 8 yrs.Things were really better uptil 2 yrs back ,when Ukraine Russia war broke,followed by planned devaluation of Nigerian currency which is almost 50 % of its value as a result of removal of parity between dollar rates .As if this wasn’t enough the government removed all the subsidies from the fuel suddenly citing various reasons.The salaries have not increased as per the inflation which is over 15 % and the saving is almost zero of common masses.Most of the businesses are suffering and people are confused what next is coming for them.

Beware of the single narrative. He’s speaking from his own experience, but it’s not the same as everybody’s. I’ve lived in Canada now for 4 years…got my citizenship this year. I lived in Nigeria for the 10 years prior to moving to Canada, and I also schooled and lived in the UK before that, so I speak with a wealth of diverse experiences. \n\nBefore you move to Canada or anywhere else for that matter, do the following:\n\n1. Research the country you’re moving to…what jobs are in demand, how that aligns with your qualifications…if you need to recertify or retrain in a different field. Many people move here thinking “oh I was a bank manager in Nigeria, so I’ll move here and become a bank manager”. It doesn’t work that way. The streets of Canada are littered with qualified medical doctors who drive Uber because they didn’t understand how difficult it would be to be certified to practice here.\n\n2. Find role models who are living the life you aspire to, or who have made similar moves and seek advice or guidance, and learn what they did right/wrong. Don’t just assume because your friend moved here, you can also move here and live the same life. You don’t share the same life experiences, history or have the same network.\n\n3. Before you immigrate physically, you have to immigrate mentally…be in the right mindset to live in a new country, understand their culture and learn to adapt. If you’re expecting to leave Nigeria and move to Canada to live a Nigerian lifestyle with “owambe” parties every weekend, or having 4 cars and 3 housemaids, then you’re still living in Nigeria mentally. Even Justin Trudeau does not drive 4 cars.\n\nI work in tech, so I knew that with God’s grace I’d find a way to succeed here. My wife worked in a Nigerian bank, and was able to transition to tech after we arrived here. Our combined annual income is roughly $500k, and we both work less than 40 hours a week, and I believe God will continue to bless us. I have easily 20 or 30 friends and colleagues who moved within a year or two of each other, and everyone is doing fine and working in tech jobs paying 6-figures. \n\nDon’t be discouraged by people’s failures and hardships. With the right planning and mindset, you can achieve your goals in any country. Reach out to people on LinkedIn, build a network and ask for advice (constructively)…many like us are more than willing to help.

Great documentary, but in my opinion, it's terribly one-sided, portraying these colleges as villains and the students as poor, innocent victims. As a former international student from India myself, who had the privilege of attending a prestigious university in the UK, working there, and moving on, the workings of this situation are as clear as daylight and as old as the hills. \nIt wasn't any different back then in the UK 20 years ago, during the heady Blair days, when UK colleges significantly increased their intake of international students, aided by a lax visa regime. This was also in response to tighter visa restrictions in the US following 9/11. Students enrolling in such colleges, as well as the parents funding them, are well aware that these are degree mills. The sole aim here is to somehow navigate through college and stay long enough until permanent residency comes through. \nTears flow and protests erupt only when this unspoken but clearly understood agreement is broken, often with the media conveniently at hand. The reasons driving this insatiable urge are multifarious, but poverty and lack of opportunities in the country (in this case, India) do not really rank high on the list. Social prestige and an imagined better life in the 'West' certainly do, particularly among young people from states like Punjab, Haryana, and parts of Gujarat. \nNothing about this is illegal, and not to sound cynical, these are market forces at work. However, in my view, this represents a more accurate truth. It would be great to see Fifth Estate also report from this side

There's so many negatives to Canada's system and its obvious Canada's insane increase in immigration is only lowering wages, increasing housing prices, importing ethnic tensions and propping up minimum wage jobs. Canada's TFW and foreign student programs don't follow our scoring system. And they're complete scams. Indians come here to study at DeVry college at a strip mall while working full time at Tim Hortons living 6 people to an apartment and they eventually get permanent residency. Canada has a rapidly declining quality of living.

This is unfair, I waited and spent a lot of money and followed the rules to migrate here from the Philippines. My relatives, who are nurses and teachers, wanted to migrate here to the US, too, but it's hard to do it. Yet they let these people who have no background check will be freeloader and can't speak English, yet they Government let them in. Why choose this kind of people instead of people who will contribute to the economy rather than freeloaders. I don't get it.

God I pray for those people. They look desperate and without direction. I pray that Venezuela repents and follows Jesus.

I’m a bit late to this discussion but I agree with the 99.9% of other responses. Although, I have enjoyed trips to beautiful areas of the US, & live close to the border where a day trip was a common occurrence. I now hesitate to even travel there as I do worry about gun violence, racism & honestly cannot understand the cult of followers who would even consider voting for an incompetent, narcissistic criminal to lead their country…. it’s mind blowing! You are desensitized regarding violence/school shootings… choose where you live? What’s the guarantee that this couldn’t happen anywhere in the US, even rural areas? On the topic of living in Canada, it’s beautiful with lots of country to see/enjoy from west coast to the east coast & we have healthcare, a government (although not perfect) elected by & working for the people. I’m proud to be Canadian, wouldn’t move for anything! We’re your neighbour but as it happens sometimes we just can’t believe what’s going on next door.

8:15 there’s a reason for this. It’s a melting pot in America. Bringing all these different cultures together… but if too many from one country show up, they’ll make a community too large that they don’t need to melt with the population. There are Chinatowns and Little Italys and whole Mexican communities, but ultimately everyone has to interact with everyone else. Allowing 300,000 Indians to get green cards every year and only 1,000 Norwegians would lead to the Norwegians merging well with the country, while the Indians would all move to one or two cities and make entire sections of the cities like small versions of their own country. Which is the last thing we want. Once an immigrant community gets enough power to be a voting block, things are scary, but once it has enough power that they start getting their own representatives and passing laws for the rest of us? Laws the look like laws they had back in their own countries… that led them to run from their countries in the first place? It’s a concern. We want people to adapt to the USA and not try to adapt the USA to them. Over time, the US does change due to the growing voting blocs. But that’s after generations of those immigrant populations getting larger, and their children being born and raised in the country they’ve adapted to. When I see a protest of Muslim immigrants burning pride flags, or Chinese and Spanish-speaking Hispanic immigrants who never bothered to learn English, I see problems with our immigration system. But the kids of the Arab immigrants will be more tolerant, and the Hispanic kids will have grown up in American schools. Most Chinese-American kids might speak some Chinese at home with their parents, but they’re worse at it, and their first language is English. It takes second Generation immigrants to really start meshing with America. But if entire school districts are all Indian, and every store, restaurant, and business in a whole town is Indian, then those kids won’t adapt to America. They won’t get bits of their home culture from their time at home and with their neighbors, while also getting bits of American culture from their classmates and other people around them. Nope. They’ll only be exposed to the first Generation who completely took over the area- IF, we allowed for unfettered immigration from the largest countries. It’s a fact that immigrant communities like to stick together. But if not enough people are in that community that you need to reach out to others around you, it helps expose you to the rest of America… Anyway! There are a ton of shows that indirectly show this phenomena. Fresh Off the Boat. The Sopranos. Even Brooklyn 99. We see as traditional and hard-to-adapt parents have to deal with kids in the next generation who are more American, don’t follow the same customs and traditions as their parents, and overall just left more of their old culture behind. No one is asking that immigrants abandon their cultural ties, but if you come to America, there are things that people need to change and accept if they’re going to live here.

people following a religion in todays time have to think why and when and for what reason particular dress or other so called religious things were carried. We should not be a blind believer

Americans are in the crapper. Many of us live on the streets. We need to be more like Japan as to border policy, and treat us first. I don’t know why it’s a big deal, many other countries have the same border policy. America isn’t inconsiderate for having them, it’s just the government already doesn’t help us live. They already take our money and force us on streets. If more immigrants came in, none of us would have a home. Economy would skyrocket greatly but in the wrong ways. More crime because I’m sure there are immigrants who really need help, but among them are also the ones who don’t follow laws. Which is why we have legal immigration, to weed out the criminals from people who need salvation.
