Canada is already heading into an economic crisis, and what Trudeau just did might be the final nail in the coffin. This is his last big mistake — and he’ll soon blame Trump’s policies to cover up his own failures.\n\nLet’s be clear: Trump’s tariff policies aren’t some random attack — they’re based on a simple reality: The U.S. doesn’t need Canada. Here’s why:\n\nEconomy Size Comparison:\n\nU.S. GDP (2024): Over $28 trillion\nCanada GDP (2024): Around $2.3 trillion\nThe U.S. economy is more than 12 times larger than Canada’s — the leverage is completely one-sided.\nTrade Imbalance:\n\n75% of Canadian exports go straight to the U.S. — Canada’s economy depends on the American market to survive.\nMeanwhile, only around 12-15% of U.S. exports go to Canada. The U.S. can replace Canadian goods easily through Mexico, Europe, or Asia, but Canada has no backup plan for losing U.S. access.\nPopulation and Consumer Base:\n\nU.S. population: Over 330 million\nCanada: Around 40 million\nThe U.S. is 8 times the market size, meaning American businesses would always prioritize the U.S. market over Canada.\nNatural Resources & Energy:\n\nCanada’s oil, gas, and timber exports rely heavily on U.S. buyers.\nThe U.S. is already the world’s top producer of oil and gas thanks to its shale industry — it can easily survive without Canadian energy.\nCanada, on the other hand, would struggle to find new customers fast enough to avoid collapse.\n\nDefense & Global Influence:\nThe U.S. holds dozens of trade agreements with major powers like the EU, Japan, South Korea, and Mexico.\nCanada’s economy relies heavily on U.S. investment, which could be cut off or redirected if necessary.\nBottom line: Trudeau is dragging Canada into a crisis of his own making. He’s gambling with his country’s economic future, knowing full well that in any economic war with the U.S., Canada loses — fast. When the fallout hits, Trudeau will shift the blame to Trump, but the facts are clear: Canada needs the U.S. far more than the U.S. needs Canada.

It's almost as if Trudeau doesn't even know who Donald Trump is! Speaking to him directly and addressing him as Donald instead of President Trump is a blatant show of disrespect. \n\nGuess what Canada. We don't need you for ANYTHING! I already boycott Canadian Club. Not for political reasons, but I don't like drinking bever piss. And I'll start buying my maple syrup from Vermont. So, you keep your shit, we'll keep our shit, and good luck to you.

Before Trudeau starts acting the fool he should get himself a globe or a good map, and he will notice that the ONLY thing that is separating Canada from Russia is Alaskan !!! He needs to pray for wisdom from our Loving God !!!

And a American. I'm with Canada. There's no going back once the goods are up in price. ?

Canada is the best, they are doing such a good thing. Wrong, Trudeau is stupid for increasing tariffs, Trump will just increase them likewise...

As an American and a Trump supporter, I agree with these tariffs, but only equal to the tariffs other countries charge the United States on our imports. I do not agree with imposing this on our brothers and sisters to the north. I’m speaking of the good people of Canada. I have traveled to Canada and crossing the border was just like crossing into another state. Yes, there was a border gate which there should be, but I had absolutely no problem whatsoever. I hope our government can work this out very quickly and stop this foolishness. But to countries like China and Europe the United States should charge a reciprocal tariff as to what you charge us on our import. It’s only fair. Why are we paying an exuberant tariff for our goods entering your country and you expect to pay nothing with your goods entering ours. Most Americans, love Canada and love our Canadian brothers and sisters, we’ve always supported each other in world, wars, and other attacks against our respective countries. I pray this is resolved quickly, and then we can once again live United and in harmony.

As a Canadian who lives in (largely French-speaking) Quebec, I don't know if our gov't even NEEDS to tariff American consumer goods, the people here are already boycotting US goods and companies en masse. EVERYBODY is doing it - and the pace isn't going to recede anytime soon. Even after the Orange Turd is long gone, trust me, Canadians will remember this! The American state has proven it cannot be trusted. They have unilaterally broken the trade agreement (negotiated by the previous Donald J Chump administration) on the flimsiest of reasons, the 00.2 % of fentanyl that flows over the border into the US from Canada. That deal now obviously not worth the paper it was signed on.

Good man Trudeau! The US agenda is bigger even than a trade war, this is a ruse that distracts from the US plan for Canada. Canada, join your allies in Europe, send your oil/gas and other resources to Europe tariff-free; Europe is a bigger market than the US.

I wonder why King Charles has chosen to give Trump a State Visit when Trump has declared economic war on part of his 'commonwealth'? Trump should remember that King Charles is also de-facto head of the Canadian state - Trudeau is the King's 'Prime Minister'. As a Brit, I stand with Canada and will boycott American goods for the rest of my life - no forgiveness!

I am horrified by trump and his treatment of our good friend canada and his outrageous treatment of Ukraine

I'm Danish - we have a big movement in Denmark to boycot American goods. The US has failed in so many ways. They will learn - perhaps to late - what the price is. In the mean time I urge people around the world who supports Ukraine, Mexico, Canada and Europe - who supports the right to freedom - to buy goods from each other. Lets join together with Japan, Australia, South Korea etc - let's show the US that YES, they were important - yes they WERE the leaders of the free world - but they lost the right to that title the moment they selected Trump for president again. Let's show them what real bravery is and what real freedom is!

It's not a trade war, he did it because canada allowed illegal immigrants over the US border. He knows what he did was wrong and the borders are there for a reason. He fucked up, not America. And good luck canada, your gonna suffer because of these counter tariffs.

As an American I just want to point out that not all Americans are at fault for this. MAGAts are to blame, and we're looking to deport them in 4 years time, so it's good that Canada is investing in their border controls.

Good speech but it is better to address the rightful concerns expressed by Trump and his Commerce Secretary, in an indoor meeting and adjust Canada’s policies where it can be done easily in partnership with U.S. Diplomacy and honesty is needed, not posturing! \n\nTrump is here to stay for 4 years with full powers and working with him after initial show off of resistance is the key to reduce pain for both sides.

The American people who voted for Trump ought to be totally ashamed - he is only interested with his good friend Putin and wants to strip Ukraine of his precious minerals. Stay strong Canada and play him at his own game.

I’m an American from Georgia ….this is just sad! I am just ashamed of our government. Good for Canada…. Don’t back down, stand firm. Very well spoken.

So, Trudy, has his panties in a bunch. WTF did he think was going to happen, he has ZERO leverage in a trade battle. The Canadian auto industry will collapse. Canada does not have a car line; the entire Canadian auto industry is to supply the American auto makers. If those goods and services are now 25% more those jobs will be brought back to the US. But hey Canada voted for this socialist, he just and into a much better and smarter capitalist.

Well 25% tariffs from Mexico and 25 % from Canada, You Americans, for your own good and for democracy better impeach your president and his people.

Trump's Import Tariffs Are To Combat a Non-Existing Problem
\n
\nThe import tariffs that US President Donald Trump has imposed on Mexico, Canada and China are meant to combat a non-existent problem, economics editor Jonathan Witteman recently analysed. Trump sees the structural trade deficit (the difference between the export and import of goods and services) that the United States has with almost all of its trading partners as a sign of weakness. Contrary to almost all political left-wing and also right-wing economists, he believes that a trade deficit is bad for a country's economy and believes that the US is being cheated by countries that export more to the US than they import.
\n
\n'I have said that the EU must make up for its enormous deficit with the US by purchasing our oil and gas on a large scale. If not, punitive tariffs will follow', Trump said last December, for example, about the trade balance between the US and the European Union.
\n
\nA connection between a bad economy and having a trade deficit cannot be found, political economy professor Andres Freytag concludes in the analysis. There are many countries in the world, such as Germany, with a trade surplus but a poorly performing economy. The opposite is more likely to be true: in countries with a trade surplus, more people are unemployed. This was shown by the Peterson Institute.
\n
\nTrump's tariffs are more dangerous for the economy, because they reduce imports and exports, partly because other countries in turn impose punitive tariffs in response. Trump's announced import tariffs during his first term even led to a larger trade deficit and to 7.2 billion dollars in welfare losses in the US.

Sell out good to Canadian ppl a lbs lower the price lol. Trudeau give your head a shake! And Canada should join with Russia too?
|

All Canada have to do is put a 25% export tariff on a America then everything will be equal apart from the poor consumer who will have to pay a whopping 50% rise in goods..?
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
So are we pretending that Canada hasn't already had enormous tariffs on American goods?

I am from Denmark and stand with you Canada, i will boycott products from the United States and i will instead buy products from Canada and other countries, but certainly not from the United States. Canada, i wish you good luck with your fight against Donald Trumps and the MAGA insanity. Please Canada, spread some list of good Canadian goods on the internet so we exactly know what to buy to support you.

?Trudeau is a bad joke and worse, a liar. Trump demands secure borders to protect our citizens. Trump is establishing RECIPROCAL tariffs to improve our economy in a fair and just manner. Trudeau says Canada is “polite,” but the hockey game between us proved otherwise. Canada is a neighbor we can live without. \nHopefully Canada will return to sanity, common sense and decency under new leadership and we can resume previously held good relations with our Northern neighbors.

Thank goodness there are heroes like Trudeau taking a prominent stance on the world stage. It gives me hope that our allies have not gone mad, even if some of my countrymen have. We admire you and support you, Canada. Thanks for telling the truth, boldly. We love you, Trudeau.

Everyone on here is missing the fact that Canada is already charging 25% taiffs. Canada is not the good guy here. This all could end if Canada just drops their 25% tariff then we would be back to good business. Trump is exposing all the corruption around the world!

Getting a good speech writer doesn't make you smart person. He has done nothing for Canada. \nHeadline hogs

Putting higher tariffs on Canada, China, and Mexico will not make America great again. This will cause higher prices in goods and services and may result in unemployment.
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
Whether you agree with his politics or not, aTHIS IS HOW A TRUE LEADER deals with something that affects their country. He’s not screaming, crying, and throwing a tantrum while laying on the floor. Good for Canada! I say don’t cut off the power but put a 100% surcharge on it. Give the extra cash to your people to help with any negative financial issues they may face.

Good speech. Now let’s also look at what has gone on last 9 years in Canada. Mr. Trudeau It was dumb to divide the provinces. It was dumb for you to shut down every project that Alberta had to work with other provinces and trade with other parts of the world. It was dumb for you to continually suck up to Quebec while ignoring the rest of the country. The corruption we know of that your party created such as We Charity and Arrivecan app is just the tip of the iceberg of billions of dollars you have robbed from Canadian taxpayers that could have fixed health care and provided much needed tax relief to all Canadians. While you are speaking about dumb I pray that Canadians realize and understand what the Liberal and NDP parties have done to our country the last 9 years and vote your party out. Canadians need to stop being dumb with who we have in power. We cannot keep going like this.

Canada MAY be our friends but Trudeau is leading them down a bad path. We don’t need ANY of your products. We will produce our own or do without before being scammed or paying up front for goods to ‘be rendered,.Let them rot on the docks or in the fields. Maybe China will buy them at half price

How about Canada annex Wisconsin? Healthcare, affordable drugs, sane leadership sounds good to me! Got milk, Canada? You could have all the milk, cheese and beer that Wisconsin has to offer ?

Lol this Communist clown talked to Trump face-to-face many times, and he still got a 25% tariff jammed up Canada's keister. I'm sure one televised speech hyped to the skies by CNN and Canadian media will bring America's greatest president to his knees in no time. Good luck, Canada! Sincerely, a Canadian.
