Just follow and respect the rules of the country your in. Carrying a knife in the open is allowed in your country because it's the culture they understand. Don't be foolish and get agitated if other cultures are not aware of yours especially if your carrying a weapon in the open . you know how many students have gone on a killing spree in their own campus . This is clearly a safety issue and you my friend were wrong to carry a weapon in your campus

Whe you're in a different country, the responsibility is yours to know or find out what the laws of the land are. You cannot expect a whole nation of others to suddenly become educated about your religious practices and make way for you . If they do, that great, but it's not their responsibility. Also, having a weapon on you in an environment where others don't will put them at unease and also give you the advantage over them, in case of an altercation. How do they know if you are mentally sane or not and that you will not suddenly use it on them. Most Sikhs are wonderful and very caring people and I'm even sitting with one as I write this, but it's best we keep our religious practices to ourselves and not be in anyone's face with it, especially in a country where people are not so aware of other cultures. If he had to wear it for religious purposes, its his responsibility to have informed the university( which he may have) , but also to insist that they inform everyone else and the police of it, so as to not raise any tensions.

To all the people sayimg that university is not a ppace to carry knives , should learn about sikhism and sikh faith. Firstly, Learn one thing that american law allows sikhs(baptised sikhs only) to wear kirpan everywhere, evem the Uk and canada have the same laws for sikhs! 100% I was born here and lived in the US growing up. And its alot to give up for a better healthcare system. The healthcare system is honestly so good by comparison that I'd say this keeps Canadians here. But it is not far or equitable in any way. And with the pandemic it has accelerated this inflation people have felt... but are now fully aware of that impact our lives in meaningful ways every 5 years. We are now like ten years or more in the future on what that impact looks like.\n\nI don't want to work because there is no point. I am working but I don't care like I used to. I don't care about advancement anymore. I don't care about what it might mean for my future in the workforce when there is always a reason to ensure thst my money goes nowhere for me.\n\nThis winter is going to be very hard.

When I tell Africans not to go to Canada they never listen. Canada is a really cool country. There's no doubt about that but in winter the weather gets really cold, dull, grey and depressing. Instead of moving always to The UK, US or Canada, why not try the Caribbean and some central American countries. These countries are very colorful, lively and bright with climate similar to ours. There are lots of folks over there that look like us as well except that you may have to learn a little Spanish which shouldn't be a problem at all. \nI'm a Nigerian too.\nI also dreamt of moving to Canada 15 years ago. I was so crazy in love with the country at first but because I was aware of how depressing winters can be I had to switch my dream destination to the Caribbean. I choose Panama because of the large Afro Panamanian community over there. Secondly because Panama looks like a more developed version of My country, Nigeria with beautiful beaches and a nice tropical weather. It's one of those few Caribbean nations with a free world class universal healthcare system like most countries in Europe.

This video may aimed to build awareness on fact about Canada as you both saw it but researching things about why things are the way they are would have been more informative than what sound basic and speculative and not absolutely hung on facts like when Canada provide World class infrastructure at bear minimum cost is directly the trade off on earnings. Certain service oriented employment are not big earners and for immigrants that are non professionals it is not the right country to migrate to after you did so now you are doing the first work after you find yourself there. Pls research and inform immigrants of a well paying jobs in Canada and you just got yourself a winner.

The stories of people moving here and then realizing their credentials aren't as valuable and have to go back to school....should have researched this and made proper plans based on this. The same for Canadians moving overseas. Most people are aware your degree here may not be acknowledged in a new country and its up to the person to found out before moving.

I went to Montreal and Quebec city 6 1/2 years ago with my family, both cities are wonderful, quiet, and peaceful. I am 17 and I plan to move from Romania to Canada somewhere around 27 years old. I'm not aware of a US based media network doing an investigation like this. Fox news definitely wouldn't educate their viewers like this. Is that the difference between USA and Canada? Is Canada trying a little harder to be more self aware? I'm a US citizen (half white, half Filipino) and I am trying to be more aware of my racial biases and I've caught myself a few times. I think this is good and healthy. It's like working out a muscle to become stronger. Let's work on noticing our hidden biases.

Very well done! In Canada we are not really patriotic, we love being canadian but we ca speak more freely against it then in the US. We are more free in general because of the global safety. The culture is not only related to money. And lastly we are more aware or interested in the rest of the world. We all have unconscious bias. It is hard wired in. All humans are biased to people who do not look like them. I try to deliberately overcome this by being aware of it.

Coming from Germany we are used to high taxes. If I’d earn 100k CAD here I would get only 55k...but health insurance is already covered.\nBe aware when you start working in Canada but you’re not considered a permanent resident in that tax year. You have to pay a higher tax rate since you’re not a permanent resident. So if they hire you as a permanent resident (what they usually do cause they don’t know) you need to pay extra after submitting your tax return ;-)

To me, it looks like Vice is really trying to pull the emotional card to get people to sympathize with this man because he really is in a rough situation. But, he is in a situation of his own making. It sounds like he had not done any prior research about Canada before deciding to claim refugess status. Yes, Trudeau was not giving the full truth when he made those public announcements to the media. Yes, people (educated or not) can be swayed by words of leaders they respect. But, to think you can just enter another country and claim refugee status without understanding what that actually entails is very naive. Canada has very transparent laws that are easily accessable in a multitude of different languages. The provinces also have legal assistance for those who can not afford lawyers. So, the fact that this man was able to spent $15,000 when he is being portrayed as a low income earner makes me question his income, or if he was even aware that he could apply for legal assistance. And since he has a lawyer who has been working his case, I would like to assume that the lawyer would have said something about assistance.\n\nI really want to be sympathetic for this man and his family, because security uncertainty makes life extra hard. But, as I have had to live in more than one country due to the Canadian immigration system refusing my husband due to a very old DUI (which has set our life on a completely different plan than anticipated), I have a very hard time being sympathetic when I feel as though they did not reach out to educated themselves on the laws of another country. I am a Canadian who currently can't live in Canada with my husband of 3 years and I still don't hate my country. I respect the hell out of it (this is not to get into our historic treatment of BIPOC, which deserves it's own seperate time and is a bloody stain on our land's history.)
