I voted for Trump, but it's hard not to agree with Trudeau on this even though I find this guy to be extremely unpleasant. There's no reason to start trade wars all over the world and in particular with our neighbors. It's one thing to threaten tariffs and a very different thing to actually apply them. If you do it has to be accompanied by a lot of diplomacy so that the other country is not overreacting, but Trump has been super combative prompting our neighbors to respond in kind to save face. While past deals may not have been great for US, this is not the way to handle our differences. Billionaires like Trump and his friends will be fine, but the majority of ordinary folks in the US and Canada will suffer. Very dumb, indeed.

Our government in America is a disgrace. Apologies to our kind Canadian neighbors. ???

This man is what every head of state should be. There would be no more wars of any kind on earth. But today, many mentally ill people, demonstrating a certain form of stupidity, are at the head of the world.

Lets hope our nation serves as an example to other nations to be faithful in protecting your democracies or you will fall just as it seems we will here in American. Canada and Mexico need to protect their borders with vigilence not just for us but from us as well. Trump may well want to invade and controls all areas of our government and is gathering up vast amounts of money that he could use to do just that. As diabical as he is dont forget the kind of people he surrounds himself with and also the fear he can instill in those people when needed to do what they may disagree with.

Good job Justin. There's nothing else you could have said or done. The problem as I see it, is that responding in kind to Trump like this is possibly to invite an invasion, justified by Trump claiming that Canadian assets are essential to US national security. It's hard to parse the provocation from the US as anything less than a pretext to eventually try and annexe Canada. Maybe Russia will attack the Baltics at the same time. It's becoming increasingly obvious that the US Government is no longer a friend to the free world.

This is the kind of President we need, but definitely don't have one close like this. TRUMP IS AN EVIL BOZO. The fact that we elected him speaks volumes of the dumbing down of America. Trudeau is full of it. His domestic record does not align with this speech, nor does Canada’s economic record, over taxation, and censorship policies add up to the kind of Canadian utopia he describes. I won’t even get into the embarrassing behaviours on the world stage, hypocritical actions towards women, the endless scandals, corruption, and fallout from covid.

Within 2 months, this Drumph administration has set this entire continent up for failure. Who would want this kind of stupidity and self destruction? - only brainwashed fools and our enemies.

I have my quarrels with some policies enacted by my government, and I have my issues with Trudeau himself.. But this is leadership. Eloquent, passionate and reasonable. Oh! and in two languages. Admit it, Americans, you wish you had this kind of leadership.

It’s so funny the excuse that Trump uses to justify his actions against allies such as Canada when in reality there is far more drugs going from USA to Canada than there is the other way around. This has never been about drugs or anything other than a personal financial gain for Trump and his own buddies like Putin. I don't understand the comparison of housing debt to GDP ratio being relevant, other than as some kind of made up benchmark. GDP is an annual number, and mortgages last for decades. How is comparing these numbers directly a measure of anything other than the amount of money invested in mortgages has increased? I would think Household income to Household debt is a more useful measure, but then again, it doesn't capture the amount of capital people have in their homes.

Shame on that kind of mindset.

More to say that productivity is lower in Canada than the US because Canada's currency isn't the international mechanism of exchange . . .

CANADA MUST develop those more REMOTE areas of the nation. Its population is essentially present in an area that resembles the shape of Chile, leaving the majority of the nation extremely underdeveloped. These infrastructure issues are the kinds of things you hear about when discussing the DRC etc. Whatever one may say about the huge problems with Russia's infrastructure, AT LEAST they have developed those more remote areas and have settled population centers in some of the most difficult climatic environments on Earth

Brain drain is definitely a big issue. I heard from someone that if you're a US citizen you are required to pay US taxes even if you don't live there and honestly I kind of wish Canada would do the same. If this country raised you and educated you and gave you all the opportunities you've had in your life thus far, you shouldn't get to just up and leave without paying anything back.

Quick note for non-Canadians (or just Canadians who don't know). When he says a majority of the nation are homeowners that's kind of not what the data says. It defines homeowner as someone who lives in a house which is owner occupied. So for example, an adult child who can't afford to rent their own place and is stuck living in their parents basement is a homeowner. I can tell you right now they don't feel like a homeowner.

These kinds of people can only abuse workers. Try doing it to a normal guy, and you would start fearing God???
