This US or Canadian Urban Sprawl, sort of started post WWII, when, to kickstart a post War economic boon, the building, automobile and materials industry lobby, promoted the suburban living homesteads.\nLand in the city perimeter was (and is) costly. So, pick up large tracts of land and build cheap single family homes. Promote the 'wonderful life of openness, safety', etc in the never ending sprawl of an unplanned growth.\nSoon enough, city planners figured out that this model is unsustainable (transport, connectivity, social life disconnect, etc), but it has morphed from low/middle income segment to uber rich gated communities. Canada is a land with great resources, great opportunity and potential, but for a place with so much supposedly smart people they do alot of dumb things. Been here 7 years now and I have seen so many issues that have obvious solutions but because of some weird culture or heritage or whatever they just keep doing the same thing until it hurts them. The real estate market is an absolute MESS and everybody knows. Money laundering, realtors colluding to set prices, blind auctions etc you name it. But they are just gonna keep doing the same thing until the country is in a major recession. Then everybody is going to be crying for bailouts. The health system is a MESS. Trying to find a doctor is like finding a needle in a haystack. They have them driving taxis instead, claiming that their qualifications arent as good. Yet they dont have enough doctors or nurses to support anything. Coworkers whose spouses work in those industries let me know they have to be working ridiculous shifts because there are not enough people. The taxes are ridiculous. I work in I.T. and taxes are like roughly half my salary. Many coworkers have told me all the illegal stuff they do to get around the taxes. Which I don't do because I wasn't raised like that. But people get taxed so much everyone is doing some thing to try to bypass it. And if you dont know the tricks or dont want to do them, you just get screwed. People don't talk about real issues here. There is alot of fake positivity and optimism because they dont want people to get sad and suicidal from the really long and harsh winter. I used to wonder why there were so many train delays until some one explained to me that many people commit suicides in winter by stepping in front of the trains. The only thing propping up this country is the constant influx of immigrant slave labour through the college system, (Like a ponzi scheme). But the immigrants are going to stop coming here if they cant even afford to live at all. Even the regular citizens cant afford it. So what will the country do after that, since there is an elderly population and not enough people to support the industries? Right now most of the immigrants come here and save up there money to go somewhere else or back home after they realize what a shitshow it is. I even have coworkers born and raised in Canada who are telling me they want to leave. Canada needs to stop patting itself on the back for doing stupid apologies and stuff like that, and actually do economically sound things to stop digging themselves into this hole. Great potential for this country but I don't know if it will ever be realized.

I'm all for blind recruitment in US colleges and the work place, it will be beneficial to the people who actually are willing to do the work necessary to succeed.

I didn't know blind recruitment was a real thing but is a thing I was going to do as a new business owner once I'm able to be able to have employees and not be the only worker I can't afford. As for why I was born with a heavy Spanish last name and don't speak any Spanish and when I married I took my existence last name a more western name and went from having no job and searching for mounths to having employment after a few weeks with multiple offers on the table with the same resume with a new last name

The tests with the three friends, I'm not saying the racism it exposed doesn't exist, but I'm curious if attractiveness or character plays a factor in this as well (or even more). Getting different rental prices is outrages. Being stalked in a store is just weird, but a couple of checks I wouldn't mind. If nothing ever happens that will stop. Being asked if you can be helped should not be an issue. Although I admit it can be annoying (I rather shop without interference), but as long as they ask politely, being offended by it is your own problem. As for the hiring part is this video, I believe there might be even more discrimination based on age. I like the idea of blind hiring when possible. Being rated on skills is in the best interest of any party. \n\nAs a society we're making good progress on a lot of levels. Introduce policies for double blind testing procedures since doing so would be a great first step. This helps to remove bias in certain fields and a great example is in orchestra's. Since it's implementation they've seen a rise in the diversification and equalization in general. This might be a good way to resolve the issue in education and employment which in turn could spread to the general society. It also helps to ensure that the most qualified individuals get the jobs and not those who happen to have connections.

I have been targeted for stealing at a large department store while a white girl with a large coat was stealing the store blind but was not followed at the register I told the person that I wasn't going to buy this stuff because of the store targeting me for my race and that they should be checking the young white lady who had a lot of things in her coat and left the store. I had just gotten payed and had a pocket full of money. It happens all the time in the USA.

I love this blind hiring idea. I like with my name being there and my face being seen. However, honestly while I can have as much confidence in my ethnicity as possible the amount of racism and judgements I receive are out of my control.

Let's face the reality. Discrimination is a fact of life whether it's legal or not. But it's not all about race. Anyone can be discriminated against because of the way they look, act, dress, even the way they walk and talk. You can have two people from the same ethnic group and they can have a totally different experience. For me, it's mostly positive. Not only it's positive, I felt I have an upper hand because of my race. If people like you, they will be color blind. If they don't, it doesn't matter what race you are. So please stop this type of racial dividing message. What you should promote is property etiquette in different cultures and help people become part of the melting pot and understand each other better so we can all get along.

God this documentary is so flawed. The symphony? Really? You are comparing the 50s from today? There were much less immigrants in Canada back then. There were less immigrants and ppl of color that played instruments. And those that did, less of them actually tried out for a symphony. And then the blind resume test totally proved no bias.
