BC, Ontario, Quebec are the 3 highest provinces regarding the Cost of Living , housing and Taxes. BC is the highest province for the Homeless and Tent Villages and death from Drugs!

They don't even speak 1 of the 2 official languages of Canada. As a French-Canadian born and raised in Quebec I miss my Canada

Some of the stats cited here are straight up wrong or... creatively employed, and there's a lot of contradictory information and the typical conservative 'the sky is falling' sensationalism and misattribution. That said, the bas supposition isn't wrong. The bubble we've been sitting on for 20 or so years has completely burst. As someone born and raised in the Toronto area, it's impossible for me to afford to own a house or apartment here on a teacher's salary. Even rent pushes me to the limit unless I want to live in a... less than nice area. I'm living hand to mouth and enjoying the benefits of living in a 'developed' country less. Here's why:\n\n1. Wages aren't really even close to keeping up with the cost of living. The first tick upwards a bit. The second just keeps rising on the back of housing, food, amenities, and inflation: the four horsemen.\n\n2. Our grocery cabal ruthlessly raise prices whenever we look away, and their lobbyists are all ensconced within the leadership of our three major parties, particularly the Conservatives (so if anyone thinks that electing them will help, they're in for a nasty surprise).\n\n3. We're experiencing 'labour shrinkflation': increasing duties are downloaded onto workers and more is expected: more productivity, more availability (almost 24/7 in some jobs), and higher qualifications. Meanwhile, real wages are decreasing relative to living cost, more positions are 'contract', which is basically a way for employers to not have to give you benefits, and job security is tenuous for a lot of people.\n\n4. Houses are being bought by investors and not owners. Foreign entities are money laundering. The wealthy upper crust of high population countries are moving here and buying property because Canada is (still) more safe and stable and less repressive than their home countries in most cases. \n\n5. There's a cycle beginning: as people are squeezed and forced to spend more on 'needs', they spend less on eating out, entertainment, and other 'wants'. These are significant drivers of the service economy and they're being hit hard. So, what can they do? They can let go of workers or lower product costs to remain profitable, but they their quality declines and, in a market where people are pinching every penny and looking for quality for their dollar, they're less likely to go back. They can raise their prices, of course, but then they price people out completely and their profits still tank. I went to a decent steakhouse for my dad's 60th last week. I can't remember the last time that I went to one before that. \n\n6. Our politicians and news cycles focus on the most niche and irrelevant stuff because it'll stoke anger and get tongues wagging. This carbon thing is almost a non-issue, but our conservative leader is harping on about it like it's singlehandedly the death of the Canadian economy when it's a drop in the bucket. Trudeau focuses on 'equity' measures, hoping for a bit of cheap good press, while his efforts are, for the most part, just window dressing and the issues, while meaningful, are often not of paramount importance or even applicable to the vast majority of the people who elected him. Meanwhile, the middle class is pretty much evaporating as he speaks. The NDP keep talking about this in a pretty real way, for what it's worth, but Jagmeet Singh is giving off an increasing vibe of just being another fat cat politician beneath his rhetoric these days. Also, third-party trolls and screeching conservatives try to bury him on social media whenever he speaks... a lot more than other leaders as well, oddly. I wonder why? Oh yeah, the Greens exist and there's Quebec and the conspiracy theory party.\n\n\nUltimately, what we're experiencing is the revenge of the feudal system. Instead of paying rents to your lord and doing labour on the land for him whenever commanded to, you pay rent to your landlord now and go to work even when you're sick or when work hours are over because you have no union protection or are working 'on contract'. Unless we want to live in the armpit of nowhere, 95% of us are going to be wage slaves living hand-to-mouth, not owning our own property, and working to please our corporate overlords if current trends continue unchecked. While some of Canada's problems are unique, I fear that most aren't. As for me, I'm headed to the 'armpit of nowhere' where I can at least have a ghost of a chance of affording life.

Its the Canadian Govt & Trudeau to be blamed for the entire mess. \nFor very long, Canada has become safe haven for terrorists from around the world, be it Khalistani or Srilankan Tamil tigers or terrorists from the middle east. The Canadian govt publicly acknowledges & supports the separatists' call for referendum, assasination etc, in the name of freedom of speech & expression.\n\nCan Indian govt too support liberation of Quebec from Canada? You cant just blame federal or JT for this issue. Provisional governments are equally responsible as well. They allowed mass international students due to their (provincial) going down economy for various factors. They made false promises to students that students can get PRI in less than a year, otherwise do you think students were willing to go to these cold areas to study without any benefits? You made a promise, now its time to fulfill.\n2. International students funds the college/school by paying fee 3 times more than a Canadian one. There was no check and balance from provincial governments on school/colleges, because they liked the inflow of $$$ within their provinces.\n3. Totally agree with you that fake students should not be getting any merci. But are all the fake students from India, not really. Both the federal and provincial governments were allowing more Indian students because they wanted to have more economic ties with Indian growing economy. \n4. Punjabi (including Sikhs) is one of the best marshal races to serve in army or security agencies. Our Canadian officials never hire personals without a proper security check. \n5. Khalistan's supporters are adapting a peaceful way for their freedom land. As far they are peaceful, we should not have any issue with their struggle. Just like we do not have issues with Quebec separatists. \n6. Remember, majority of Canadians are immigrants from various part of the globe including you as well, weather you are coming from 3rd, 4th or 5th generation. Its easy to spread hate compare to love. I love you and other my fellow Canadians even though I may not be a TRUE Canadian in your books. \n\nYou may be surprised that a Pakistani born (non-Punjabi) Canadian is supporting Indian students. I may dislike India for various and obvious reasons but I want to be on the right side of the history. Love & Peace!!!

I lived in Ottawa all my life...maybe 2015, they started coming in so fast, I've never really seen so many Indians...now they're all over the place. Not saying it's a bad thing. Just what I've noticed. And lately I have been seeing them in Gatineau but knowing Quebec has new French rule, this may not want them to go live in QC. I think Vancouver has a lot of Chinese and Indians. Just the way it is. They say white people had it too easy and just demanded more from the government whereas Asians will come here for a better life, possibly doing labor work and not complain, so is this is the government is accepting of them? Are they helping with the economy? I am not sure where where all these numbers are coming from.

Please my advice as Canadian that grew up in Canada since baby age. Canada it’s getting worsen nothing it’s improving Now I’m in my 40 years please and please return back to Singapore or somewhere else Singapore are wayyyy better and beautiful place greener than Canada. Cost living are high, cellular service are crazy expensive for only one service , highly competition in the workforces, weather it’s long brutal cold , summer it’s not summer it’s humid and dry spring a better but only last 2 months then dry summer , no social life , city are dead quiet environment only Quebec alone the research from a newspaper local said there’s 50% are mentally sick after seeing this data few month later I’ll pack my bag and never ever looking back !

Yes, Justin is a nightmare, but the alternative of a Conservative government is even worse! Like in the US, UK and other countries, we have no great options for good leadership. I wish the NDP would get their shit together. Also, you failed to mention the Bloc's dangerous impact in Quebec. They sap much of the Fed vote in our second most populated province. They should not be allowed to be a Federal party when they only have representation in one province. EVERY Federal election is won or lost by blowing Quebec.

I am a Canadian catholic born in Quebec, now live in Mississauga Ontario. I support everything you have said. I do not know why people can't mind there own business and let others go on living there own lives and beliefs, what is it to them. I also think that most religions do have some things in common.

Lack of competitiveness of native Canadians who use government jobs to keep themselves secure. Military jobs which invite their wives and husbands to work, and all kind of discrimination and segregation towards non-Canadians and immigrants. Law 101 of french language in Quebec, etc. Canadians are in general very discriminative towards immigration, and that has a cost.

i am from quebec city and when i read papernews it have always a kill in the school of the us every weeks and we are another one in the US it is normal for us to see US have mass murder in school, in canada it is not common

It’s crazy the way people forget that Canada doesn’t end at the end of Quebec. I hate to break it to you, but there are still affordable places to live in this country, They’re just mostly not in the urban centres of Ontario, Quebec, BC or Alberta. If you actually choose to acknowledge the existence of the other six provinces, you can have a pretty good life in this country! with that being said, I also have a good friend who’s making $100k a year fresh out of university in downtown Calgary. Everyone saying salaries are too low, there are no opportunities in this country, I’m curious to know what opportunities we’ve actually lost? Just because they aren’t being afforded to you doesn’t mean they don’t exist, maybe this should spur some self-reflection. You do have to work hard to succeed after all! \n\nLife is hard, always has been. If you actually talk to your parents instead of trusting what others on the internet say, who also weren’t alive during that time, you might realize that things really aren’t that different now. Despite what the internet will tell you, a minimum wage job was not enough to afford a house and a car 40 years ago. The French Canadian in Quebec is declining big time in population.. I assume he's frustrated with the illegal immigration. And they don't speak a word of French either. And they won't try to speak any French. The English in Quebec are snobs. And they think they're better. They can always move to Ontario or the other english speaking provinces. The issue is not only in Brampton. The same thing is happening in some parts of Quebec where there's a massive influx of undisarable immigrants, specially from Arabic and Maghreb regions as a result that crimes skyrocketed, inflation went out of control and there's a vibe and a culture of imposition. Canada, unlike the US, was always more of a salad than a melting pot. Many separate ingredients in one bowl. It wasn't that long ago that Canada was dealing with the Quebecois issue. Beyond that, there are issue with First Nations relations. To expect Canada to be a melting pot is too much. It's a country primarily of English speakers, a large number of French speakers mainly concentrated in Quebec, First Nations people, and then European immigrants who in a generation or two become more basic English-speaking Canadians. You can't expect more than that form Canada. This is not even addressing how Chinese Vancouver is. That's another ball of wax.

Many people might ask how the Liberal government issued so many study and work visas to young Indians, who don't have any particularly outstanding qualifications. It is because they allowed colleges to accept students and some of these colleges were created for the sole purpose of collecting high tuition fees, which wealthy Indians gladly paid for as it gave them a chance to live in Canada and apply for permanent residency. Trudeau (like Harper, incidentally) wanted to win Brampton and the surrounding areas so as to be able to form a government. These ridings could easily flip to Conservative, unlike others in Quebec or BC. Voters in these battleground areas were believed to be willing to vote Liberal, if they could have some representation in Ottawa, especially in cabinet. Even as a member of this diaspora, I think courting this population like this was a huge mistake. \n\nIn the post-war II period, the immigrants that came from Canada, were highly qualified, scientists, engineers, architects -- you name it, that had jobs waiting for them at universities and tech firms. If they were students, they came into Ph.D. programs fully supported with stipends. This generation helped Canada tremendously and made Canada a leader in crop science and microbiology research, just to name an example. Today, many here on student visas are working at Tim's or delivering Amazon packages, or even driving trucks without proper training.
