I moved to Canada as a child with my parents 41 years ago. It isn't just inflation and cost of living that is the problem. It's the dramatically increasing racism and discrimination, even against people who have been living in this country longer than the racists discriminating against them. Seriously? This is not the Canada that I came to as a child, grew up in, or have lived and worked in for many decades. I made the mistake of working around the world for a short time and picking up an accent that wasn't even mine originally. I had a Canadian accent before finishing elementary school. To come back to be asked to go home or 'we don't want your sort here' is not just simple racism, but hatred that makes me regret ever having agreed to taking on Canadian citizenship. My kids and grandchildren have Canadian accents and were Canadians from birth. But should they leave and return to the same crap??? What disgusts me more is that the PM dares to include immigrants with refugees, under the banner that 30% of the population are immigrants. Under the law, refugees are temporary migrants and usually nothing more. To bundle immigrants who came to Canada through legal means of applications, brought hundreds of millions dollars into Canada with them of their own hard-earned money from their own countries, to have it taxed out of them, and their families deliberately put into poverty so Canada can fulfil its 19th century-PM Macdonald immigration policy of, and I quote from a Canadian federal government website, quoting PM Macdonald directly, about breeding out the Indigeneous people, is beyond sick! Canada is a great vast and beautiful land, but only a small percentage of it has any infrastructure, roads, or homes sufficient to house what is a decreasing fraction of society. Refugees take preference over immigrants and citizens alike. The lie about the homeless is getting bigger. Most homeless Canadians today are veterans, elderly, disabled, mentally ill, poor, and professionals and trades people, yet Canada brings in countless professionals, claiming that their education and experience will get them into the professions that they are coming from. It's all a scam! Canadian education is not the best and yet people with better educations and job experience are being forced to spend all their money to go back to university or college to get jobs that they rarely will be hired for. Canada is not short of doctors, just short of professionals who hire professionals without using discrimination, hatred and racism for their HR kit! Many taxi drivers are doctors, engineers, and so on. So, please stop lying to the world and tell the truth. And no doubt this entry will be taken down because it offends a Canadian who doesn't want the world to know the truth.

One doesn't need a house in Canada. You go rent an apartment and you may live. Of course, if you earn 2000.00 to 4000.00 CAD per month. Which is rather difficult for immigrants. Usually, your pay is 10.00 CAD per hour, which gives you 1600.00 CAD per month. Which is way too little for covering your bills. Government instead of building cheap communal blocks of flats is building condos. But the cheapest condominium costs 500K CAD and show me people who can afford it....? You buy and pay monthly rent, yeah 2500.00 4500.00 per month only to cover rent. Plus 186.00 for internet and TV, 30.00 for stationary phone, 45.00 for mobile, 600.00 for monthly food for 2, plus meds, dentist, cabbies, electricity, water, then you add toilette, laundry liquid, toilet paper, towel paper, cat food, dog food, then the bill goes over 6000.00 if you wanna live in the condo. You have always private sector housing where monthly rent is from 900.00 to 2500.00, which depends on the district and quality of the apartment. For the landlord, you must pay monthly and renew lease each year. If you have roaches or bed bags, it's a bigger problem for you. Not every landlord uses paste. They use spray, which is not a roach killer at all, and whole your apartment will stink for months. Private sector has thin ceilings and wooden floors, so loud noise of your neighbour's may disturb your night rest or cigarettes. Smoke may fill up your space. Beware when getting sick. Family doc is unavailable, usually if you have one or at all if you don't.

I think everyone is missing the point here. I Don’t support Israel’s retaliation, but I wondered why the Arab world has not taken in a single refugee. Poland didn’t condone Russia’s attack by taking in hundreds of thousands Ukrainian refugees. If Egypt, jordan, Quatar, to name the immediate Arab Neighbors would rally together to get the women and children out of harms way, surely the outcome would be better for these poor people. \n\nSadly this is not the case and it appears as though this conflict will never find a solution, as long as both parties are not able to set aside their millennia aged quarrel, acknowledge each other’s deep roots and belonging to the same land, and accept that they both come from the exact same bloodline. My point with this overtly personal analogy is that both the Palestinian and the Israeli sides should be dragged off each there by their figurative ears pulled, sat down, scolded and reminded of their ancestrial ties to each other and to the very same land. \n\nBe honest with yourselves, some how amongst all this hate, vitriol, unnecessary death of innocent lives, are you, and those you rally with be truly ok with your opposing side coexisting harmoniously beside each other? If the answer to this question is no, the other side can not have any claim to this land and needs to be removed to god knows where, if not off the earth all together then it’s your people, not mine, that are doomed. We’ll still be chilling in North America, horrified at the unfolding events but chilling nonetheless. Although it somehow claims to not be doing so, the actions of Israel demonstrate a gruelling callousness towards Palestinian life or right to life, and the staunch calls of the constant pro Palestine protests, calling for the eradication of Israel, none absent of a deep, hate and disgust towards the Jewish people. Both are in need of serious internal reform. Honestly as a complete outsider, SHAME ON BOTH OF YOU. I don’t care who started it, or who said or did what, at this point it is imperil that this end immediately. And as an outsider, I think it’s is important that pressure be applied to both sides to put their weapons down. The dude complaining about the volunteers for social services work getting paid is redic. This is work and to maintain it getting done consistently and as often as needed you need to pay peers or employees for their time and work. Yes some people will hold to volunteer work, I do volunteer work myself. But if you're volunteering you're more likely to call out for silly reasons or not work as hard and then you end up short staffed and people not getting the help they need. I have worked in these encampments, got paid, but provided the camps with harm reduction supplies, food & water, and toiletries as well as helping people call Central Intake and references to medical support. That is still work, I would usually walk about 10km a day with a heavy bag on my back and I'm poor disabled person myself. \n\nAs well as addressing unhoused folks using substances, would you want to go to detox while not having a home? It feels absolutely horrible and getting sober when you don't have a bed to shower in, a toilet to use, a shower to clean yourself up in, is really f*cking hard. A lot of people start using substances like meth to help them survive as well, needing it to stay up at night so you don't get attacked at night sleeping. Don't shame substance use, but especially substance use with the unhoused.

Getting ill causing a month long stay in the ICU left me homeless as living paycheck to paycheck causes once the cheques stop , I was placed in a Toronto homeless shelter 3 years ago and I can tell you that African refugees enter a shelter and no more than 3 weeks later are housed usually 5 at a time all Getting a fully paid market value 1 bedroom apartment average price $2,600 monthly that with a monthly welfare cheque and free food dental medical prescriptions clothing WIN WIN WIN the Canadian born homeless shelter residents get put on a 38,000 name waiting list for Ontario's drug infested housing ghettos the Africans are being housed under a kept secret program called COHB secret from us Canadian homeless that is and I've witnessed this now at 5 different shelters I've been in, having befriended one of the African migrants who is a little unstable drinking alcohol and smoking pot so he hasn't been housed but he has shown me the paper work that has been housing his fellow illegal immigrants and I say illegal because they all came as visitors only to claim asylum as soon as they land he also told me they all borrow the money for their plane tickets from a gang who once they land and start instantly getting welfare have to send half the proceeds back to this gang in Africa for the next two years , in this shelter donated clothing comes in everyday and two African shelter residents fold and sort the clothing taking all the name brand clothes what they didn't hand out to the other Africans they walk to the post office and ship it back to Africa I'm not making this shit up after we complained to staff which also happen to be made up from the Africans themselves yes they've hired wolves to watch over the other wolves so they now aren't walking out the front door everyday with garbage bags full of clothes at least not in front of our eyes DON'T CALL ME RACIST I know that's the go to word when this insanity is made public , what do you think is the first thing these Africans do when they walk into their free apartment? I’m surprised you never saw me. I’m homeless in a shelter and I hate this city.. well I hate all the cities like this. The people are heartless and sacred. The homeless are high and sad… I wander the streets like all day every day. When I have money I try to help the street people. Or I end up smoking weed on occasion. But there’s a lot of garbage and garbage people out there. I’m basically the rat king. I wander round doing anything I can. I’m pretty crazy tho I have bpd and doctors don’t really help anyone. I just live in the shelter and during the day I wander the streets trying to learn the city and help people. Sometimes I’m rude and angry and insane due to the state of the city and all I’ve seen. Immigrants to Canada leave for the U.S. because Canada prefers “high value” immigrants (e.g., physicians, engineers, scientists, entrepreneurs with excellent track records, occupations that are expensive to train and/or individually contribute a lot to the GDP) that the U.S. would also like to attract. Not only can many of these people make more money in the U.S., but they often encounter more help and/or less restrictions with professional licenses (e.g., most states have an industrial exemption for engineers, and do a better job at helping foreign doctors and nurses get their licenses to practice medicine). How many times have we heard of a foreign professional reduced to driving a taxi or becoming a housewife when they move to Canada because an immigration official didn’t properly inform the immigrant of the hoops they would have to jump through, and the provincial professional association offered minimal, if any, assistance? \n\nThis PhD student (and others with more academic than lucrative educations) may think he’ll have it made moving to the US but I think he overestimates his value. The small liberal arts colleges that may have hired someone with his background are decreasing in number or changing to a more technical focus (usually to computer science because it doesn’t require expensive labs needed in medicine or engineering). American students are now more critically examining what degrees, if any at all, will lead to better paying careers, and I doubt Myanmar is on their radar as a money-making opportunity.

I know we have our problems. The downside of Democracies are they are wasteful and inefficient. Governing political parties have fixed terms with one incoming party undoing everything the outgoing party set. Coming from Iran I can't believe how medical procedure is so complicated in West. I have lived in Italy for four years and I have cousins in Canada. In Iran despite all the difficulties the maximum time you spend for general doctor under insurance is one hour. As for specialists you usually have to wait for 1.5 hours except for gynecologists which usually takes 3-6 hours. And you can go to any doctor you want depending how busy the doctor is but on average you can book an appointment for a specialist within two to 3 days

I have myself experienced this. There were 3 young adults behind me. I reclined my seat, i usually never recline my seat, but the person ahead reclined fully and I had no option. To be clear, Canada does not pay for drug addicts to have their doses of drugs. They pay for them to have a safe injection site and free clean needles. If they don’t have any drugs and are at risk of dying sure to not having doses, or don’t want to be on drugs anymore, then they can get free doses of methadone which is a pharmaceutical used to help reduce dangerous withdrawal symptoms. I’d say this fact is much different than what you said. I do think there is a problem that needs addressing but you can’t expect right wing conservative givernwments to have a solution either since they usually just want to grease the palms of their rich friends.

I am a US citizen and think of moving to Canada. Gun violence, homeless on the street, and migrants are hazard to live here. I went to Montreal last summer, staying in Travelodge near Old Montreal. Two nights stay cost me over $500 USD. It is really outrageous as I spent the same amount for a whole week on cruise, including room and all meals 4 years ago. I understand the inflation, but this same hotel usually charged me $200 US dollars in the summer. Now, Canada becomes un affordable to us. ?

Immigrants who leave Canada do not have good job or income. They are not employed full time or simply underemployed (at minimum wage). Usually, they try for good job in other countries, such as GCC Countries or - come back to India and get involved in family business.

Isn't it usually the government's fault for impeding new housing projects? The free market would have responded to the increase in housing demand rapidly without the bureaucracy. Of course, although I say free market, building codes, safety regulations, and sustainability should still be followed. But the bottleneck to more housing is usually government control/special interest groups, and not engineering challenges, which have mostly been solved.
