Who said they don't want to go home? Canada invites international students with a promise to give them PR if they can finish school and qualify using one of the programs. I know because that's how I came to Canada. Unlike the US where it's hard to stay and you need a marriage, in Canada you can use a qualifying job. Usually people sponsored by family to get PR, as well as refugees, are put ahead of international students as well as those on work permits. \n\nIn the meantime, International students over-pay into post secondary, as well as working off campus and paying taxes, but are always last in line when it comes to being granted PR. The rules change so much so fast, it's easy to find yourself out of time and kicked out of the country. \n\nSo whoever watches this will be happy that International students are getting kicked out, but the problem with too much immigration won't be solved because the country is still taking in so many refugees. Right now it's international students getting the axe and are the scape goats in ths game. \n\nAlso, the reason why Canada takes in more immigrants beyond the obvious, is because they want to eventually do away with property rights. So while people can cheer kicking out international students, it doesn't prevent the inevitable from happening, because the politicians took in too many new people.. \n\nAnyway, good luck to everyone, from either side of this debate, it's bad news all around wharever the final outcome.

I am from India living in India now. Never lived or worked in Canada, but visited Canada multiple times as a tourist.\n\nThis situation is kinda tricky for everyone. While immigration is unavoidable for any nation of today, the way people immigrate to other countries really frustrates. Nations just go by whatever documents are submitted to the embassies to grant visit/student/work visas. Most of the time, the documents are cooked up or forged in order to secure entry into other countries. This is very common in India as well. \n\nIndia too have serious problem with the Canadian Govt, which openly backs & harbors terrorists from India such as Khalistanis. Of late, Canada has become safe haven for global terrorists, who need a safe shelter. I still wonder, what is stopping India from getting Canada declared a terrorist state.

Nobody pays 4-times the tuition of a domestic student just for a degree from Blablabla college. Of course almost everyone comes for PR, because Express Entry was a stable immigration system, but now the system allows fraudulent LMIA holders to go through, and the actual skilled workers are paying the price because NOBODY can score such high score in Express Entry (current draws). The current draw cut-off scores are unrealistic.\n\nThe government allowed 90k unskilled workers to get PR through the TR to PR program (was a mistake), but now have made it difficult for the actual Federal High Skilled applicants. Canadian immigration is now so messed up, it favors the junks of the world and ignores the real skilled people. I myself have a Master's degree in Canada from a top University, have Canadian work experience, have foreign work experience, scores highest possible in IELTS, still I cannot score 529 for express entry. Conversely, a mediocre asylum seeker or fraud LMIA holder easily gets PR. Express Entry is no longer a stable system for skilled workers, it's now a lottery.\n\nBefore blaming international students for everything, you need to understand the real problem. Whether everyone is entitled to PR, NO! But, the skilled workers with excellent CRS scores (490+) should be able to stay to benefit Canada & get a good career for themselves as well. Otherwise, Canada itself will suffer from skill shortages just in a few years.

We've turned our post-secondary institutions in Canada into diploma Mills where you know your VA and your you know postgraduate degrees or you know they're worthless. However the government and the education system grew into a very profitable industry grinding out worthless degree after worthless degree for foreign students who thought when they got these degrees with 50% of Canadians have. I have a fix for you Canada. Trash your social safety net, like Universial health care and lower your corporate taxes, so big companies from the US might use you guy's immigrates as cheap labor. Win win for everyone.

I beg to differ - yes, you can blame the immigrants, as they're the root of the housing affordability crisis both in Canada and in the United States. We seem to have mass immigration simply for the sake of having it. If we really needed cheap labor, we could have guest worker programs, or allow in only people who intend to do menial labor. Instead, everyone gets in, including a lot of criminals who reduce the quality of life, as well as others who are just taking up space and making life a hell of a lot more expensive for the rest of us.

When any system is overwhelmed by volume..due to poor planning, poor resource management, lack of or poor controls, you will have issues. Immigration is a system of processes. This system, along with cost, resources, and time, constitute a value stream. So, what Canada has is an ill defined value stream. It was designed for 100 people, yet it is now dealing with 10,000 people at eny given time. \n\nIt is time to go back and define the requirements. This means reining in the volume, cost, and related. This will mean difficult choices on ehere to put the money. It will mean trade-offs. We have already shown that universities and provinces can not manage this....only looking for money. \n\nIt is time to start looking at having a more robust input or immigration system. Yes, it will appear heavy, and it means saying 'NO' in certain situations. One can not be everything to everyone. \n\nDefine the guard rails of the processes. Make them clear and concrete. Make thrm known. The rigorously enforce them. It is a black and white input. \n\nAdditionally, regarding university and Canada, perhaps it is tome to take the right of allowing an international student to specify a specific university. Maybe they should be assigned based upon their chosen major and the load factor...the idea is all else being the same... even costs, their intake is assigned a priority, and the slot they get assigned to is based upon level loading and capacity of the system. They have no say as far as which university...just that they will have a coat effective, high quality, result.

Most of what was reported here is true but the housing market and rents have skyrocketed all over the world since the Chinese government F'd everyone with Covid-19. At first there were supply chain issues with all goods so businesses said we have to increase prices. Once supply issues were back to pre-Covid-19 levels businesses did not & will not lower their prices on goods because , we as a society do not take matters into our own hands and boycott products\\company's etc. Now obviously we cannot boycott all goods & services but the majority we could and that is the only thing that would cause action among companies to lower bank fees, fast food prices, grocery prices, cell plan costs etc.\n\nWith that said, you picked two of the highest and most sought after city's in CAN to rent & or try to buy a home. Although rent & home prices have really jumped all over the world in the past 3-4 years, more affordable (still not cheap) housing, compared to Toronto, Vancouver, can be found all across CAN. My sister & brother in law found an apartment to rent in Winnipeg without any difficulty or waiting. \nThey are immigrants and entered on her student Visa & he is a computer programmer. They are not struggling to eat but they have to follow a tight budget since she cannot work but 20 hours a week as a student and they have 1 kid, a car payment,utilities, cell plan, etc. They have filed for their PR and I suspect they will be approved since his job is in demand and she will graduate from College there in 4 months or so.\n\nOne thing I noticed, when my wife & I went up to get them settled in, is that the government (national & local) taxes you all pay out of the wazzoo on everything! I think the only thing that wasn't taxed was air. ? I know most of this is due to the healthcare system, because the money has to come from somewhere. Don't misunderstand, I like the CAN healthcare system better than the US's, because the insurance companies stick it to us as well, but both have their pluses and minuses.\n\nCAN does have a much easier system for immigration. If my sister & bro in law could have come here we would have been glad for them to stay with us and help them get started but the backlog is just so long to wait (10 + years). I also LOVE CAN because you uphold your laws and DEPORT illegal immigrants instead of letting them pour into the Country, by the millions each year, and the majority eventually trickle into the population illegally, who get jobs & pay no taxes (other than sales tax) no driver's licenses or vehicle insurance and get 100% free medical and hospital care anytime while legal US citizen's pay high premiums, into social security and their income taxes each year.

I think you missed one key important cause of all this, and one the liberal's biggest policy failures: unfettered immigration. Everyone on r/canada knows and talks about this. It's why housing is becoming more unaffordable, and why wages have stagnated. Canada can't support this huge influx of immigrants.

Canadian here. It is a gorgeous country, but it is insanely expensive in all major cities. No thanks to the lousy policies of Trudeau allowing anyone and everyone into the country just so Trudeau can get votes from new immigrants once they become citizens.

A Canadian here who moved to the USA back in the 1990's. Back then, and even more so today, it was pointless with the Canadian tax structure to work hard and make higher income. So I moved to the USA, worked my ass off in a progressive tax structure and am now in a place of happiness and freedom in retirement. I visit Canada often enjoying a great exchange rate. It's heartbreaking to see everyone either work like crazy to be left with almost nothing after taxes, or my unemployed friends get almost as much after-tax on welfare who complain about how the schools, taxes and government service are going to immigration. I hope Canada can start developing an identity and work towards something more positive than simply growing the government unions.

The common reasons why Brampton has so many Indians.\n1) Even in India there are 22 official languages, but unofficial 121 languages with over 700 different dialects. In Brampton, the majority are Punjabi and Gujarati. These names first come from the language they speak, later to the Indian State. Each language represents a culture. In India also everyone feels safe within their community because it is human nature to bully someone who doesn't look the same as them. So, they feel safe within the community. This new Woke culture calls it racism and hate, but I think it is a common human nature.\n2) Helping each other to settle in the same community. So, they prefer to land here first and somehow settle in. The government programs for newcomers are just a waste of taxpayers' money.\n3) Closer to the Airport and Public Transportation is not too bad.\n4) A lot of part-time work opportunities for the students and newcomers. (Not the same under Trudeau anymore)\n5) A lot of activities for parents of the immigrants because they can't learn English or Culture at this age.\n6) Indian Food and Grocery are easily available.\n\nIt was not that bad before, but the latest influx of unskilled immigrants and students with the absence of manners has taken it to an unrecoverable level.

Canada has gone from an absolutely amazing country where life was really good I to an absolute shit hole, where guns have become an issue, immigration has run riot, housing is totally unaffordable and prices on basic groceries a total joke! Not too far from me is a shelter. Once a gigantic Toronto Hydro building now just a gigantic building that houses immigrants.The immigrants in this shelter all originating from Africa. I have yet to see, white, asian or brown exit this building. It houses both women and men. No families with kids..that ive noticed yet. They seem to be treated very well. Everyone looks happy, healthy and full. They enter and exit freely and usually have their best clothes on like they are about to go to church. Food is is delivered to them everyday. Fully cooked meals ready to be eaten.. and im sure brought in multiple times a day. Incredibly gross of Canada

Everyone complaining should ask themselves a few questions. These Indians and by extent all immigrants have significant barriers. I'll refer to only indians here. They have names which are hard to pronounce. Some of them have a look only a mother can love. They cant speak as well as we do. We cannot understand them. Majority of them come here w nothing. Yet...yet...they have become THE Richest diaspora in America and they are not doing too badly here in Canada as well. Now you have to ask yourself why is this the case. They start frombthe bottom and in 20 years or less they end up at the top. I think most rational sane ppl will know the answer, other immigrants will know the answer. The answer is: they work hard at educating themselves and then they work hard at their jobs. Some of you will say they get tax breaks and child tax subsidies etc. But those things are handouts...its not designed for you to become rich from, just to keep from drowning. So its not handouts. They literally work hard all their lives. Do you see any of them at the ball game? Or out partying? Or out having a grand time. The same ones delivering your uber eats in 20 years will be richer than you. Even with all the barriers I mentioned before. I am an Eastern European national whos been here for the past 40 years.

They even brought the worst quality of immigrants and compromised on the reputation of Canadian education. I would like to provide a background to all the native Canadians who are wondering why the East Indian population is growing in Canada they are lot of education consultants back in India who market Canada as a lucrative country to immigrate brownie points for studying to get PR free healthcare free education till grade 12 so everyone is trying their best to come to Canada on a student visa.Once students come on a student visa they need to work 20 hours a week which they are legally allowed to work on international student visa so locals feel they are taking their jobs In US international students are only allowed to work on campus despite so many job opportunities.Colleges in Canada charge 4-5 times tuition which is profitable to the education industry and provincial government.Once these students Graduate they get open work permit where they can gain Canadian work experience and apply for PR and citizenship eventually.All this benefits the government and the educational institutions overall in terms of taxes and revenue..

The Indians 'living well' are being funded from India to be able to pay for school, they are also living too many in a house to minimize costs. They are not on the government dole. \n\nThis report is the bare minimum and didn't delve any deeper into any of the issues. \n\nThe government isn't helping anyone, the Canadians on drugs and destitution aren't in that state because of the Indians going to school. The Indians are subsidizing the institutions of higher learning in Ontario because they have to pay more than the locals. \n\nIt will all come crashing down, in the future, even the Indians will be destitute as will everyone else in Canada if the W E F plans go through. I grew up in Malton (borders Brampton) in the 1980's and it was all Western European and Canadian folks and it was great. Such a sense of community and everyone knew everyone. Us kids would stay out until the street lights came on and played in Parks. It was really safe. We moved away in 2006 because the area had gone such down hill by 1999 and the crime was horrible. Stolen cars, alcohol and drug abusing Punjabi folks and the domestic partner violence of the Indian men beating the crap out of their wives was insane. (I had a friend that was a Peel Region Police officer who ended up leaving because she couldn't take seeing it any longer). I have nothing against Immigration, because my dad was an immigrant, but I do have a problem with the amount of any one country we let in, and the types of people that we let in that contribute to crime and area degradation. It's so sad the slums that have become in Brampton and Malton since we left. I'm glad we got the heck out of there when we did. I feel sorry for all those that are stuck there still. Furthermore with such an influx of immigrants into one area it has driven the house prices and rent through the roof because the pace of immigration was nowhere near the housing starts, and cities think that everyone needs to be packed in like sardines and when you have that many people living in close proximity and you have such expensive living costs it's a disaster waiting to happen and it brings along with it tons of crime and drugs. The Trudeau government really messed up this country and the GTA Cities like Brampton are a shining example of that. It's sick that we pay as much as we do for government at all levels that are this idiotic. It's time we protested in the street and made the government at all levels fear the public again or it's never going to change.

I'm Australian and a few months back had a debate with a Canadian on reddit who visited Australia and remarked how shocked he was at how ethnically segregated Australia is and was preaching about how in Canada everyone mixes and that Australia should learn from Canada how to integrate immigrants. Well as someone who did a working holiday in Canada he was spouting bs, you have cities like Surrey, Richmond, Burnaby, Brampton and Markham that have become mini India and Chinas in Canada. Australia might have neighbourhoods that are segregated but we sure as hell don't have cities with 300k+ people that cater to one ethnicity. I love Canadians don't get me wrong but a lot of you really need to stop with this holier than thou attitude thinking your poo don't stink.
