Let them in, it’s a free world

1) Toronto is poor value. Getting housing of any kind (buying or renting) is stupidly expensive. And the quality you get for the price is lousy. Especially the newer builds, which are just thrown up as quickly as possible and sold to investors. Policy measures generally all seem to serve to just inflate the price of housing further. The occasional lip service given to affordability is amusing, but ultimately sad. There are lots of people who really do not want the housing bubble to pop. They will fight against it with all they have.\n\n2) It has become kind of boring. There is lots to do if you have money, but it’s harder to find entertainment on a budget. Even the free stuff like parks are filling up. Stuff like sporting events, eating out, going out is very costly across the board. Even the “cheaper” stuff is expensive. It seems like a lot of local culture is disappearing. Even the cool neighbourhoods are filling up with the same chains. I think the high commercial rent and bureaucracy is deflating a lot of would-be entrepreneurs. Most landowners seem to just be banking on cashing out their land for condos.\n\n3) Canada overall has a high cost of living compared to salaries. In the US you can find lower cost of living areas that still give you a real city experience. And in Europe you can be poor but still live a decent, if no frills, life. In Canada the basic necessities are all expensive. Phone bills, grocery bills, rent, insurance are through the roof. Domestic travel is expensive. And the dollar sucks if you want to travel abroad. Health care is free but good luck finding a family doctor or waiting 8 hours in the ER these days. It’s expensive to be poor, or even middle class.\n\n4) Most of the Greater Toronto Area, outside the core, is soulless suburbs with awful transit - very “American” except with worse traffic congestion. You will need a car, which is another huge cost. Row upon row of old cookie cutter suburbs with the same crappy houses. Good luck walking anywhere, and if you do you will need to walk down boring, treeless arterial roads with cars zooming past right beside you, and cross giant eight lane intersections that were never built for humans on foot. In a rainstorm or on a fall evening you have to be really careful not to be run over by aggressive drivers.\n\n5) It is hard to raise a family in an apartment here. You can do it but it’s not very easy, and also you are still kind of judged for it. Lots of young people are feeling stuck and are deferring or avoiding starting a family. Buying any type of house, even a basic townhouse, requires pledging your soul to a bank by taking a massive mortgage with eye watering debt in a volatile market. But few apartment buildings have the kind of sensible gentle density, the family unit sizes and the common amenities, like little courtyards with jungle gyms, that you might find in Europe. No one ever contemplated that anyone would ever desire to raise kids in an apartment. It’s just a cultural thing that has worked its way into how things are planned and designed.\n\n6) The transit system is ok by North American standards but awful by international standards. There are only two real subway lines, one stub line, one line that is permanently out of service after a derailment, and another line that was supposed to open a couple years ago but still has no date for opening. The subways go out of service frequently, sometimes for the dumbest reasons, and then it is a zoo of shuttle buses. The streetcars are nice but so slow. The buses are fine if you find yourself dreaming about riding a daily herky jerky rolling tin of sardines. They are building a lot of transit but it will take decades to get done.\n\n7) There is still a lot of cool multiculturalism and opportunities to experience different foods and cultures - one of the best things about Toronto. Increasingly though it seems to be losing the fun vibe of the 90s, when everyone celebrated each other’s backgrounds and was chill. It seems the immigration is not as broad based anymore and also people are importing a lot of their “old country” grievances here. The immigration system also kind of preys on people abroad by selling them a false fairy tale, so they end up dejected when they arrive and see how things really are.\n\n8) This one might be controversial but it’s kind of an ugly city. There’s nothing particularly of historical meaning or value. Some of the older neighbourhoods are kind of nice, but the last 25 years they have only built giant glass skyboxes, one after another. There aren’t the cool “missing middle” walkups like in NY, Chicago or Montreal (or even LA). There are very few buildings with much architectural character. Some of the buildings they deem “heritage” here are an embarrassment.\n\n9) For safety, honestly on this score I think Toronto is not bad. There are not too many real “ghettos” and it’s night and day compared to much of the US. With that said, there is more vagrancy and social issues these days, with tents and such. It’s very sad but the shelters are full, lots of homeless go into the libraries, parks and transit system. It does make it harder to enjoy these public amenities safely. It is nowhere close to Europe where you might let your kids run free around town. Canadian parents still helicopter their kids and the place again is not designed to really be safe for kids, in the same way as Europe.\n\n10) Finally, a bit of a double edged sword. Toronto had a lot of youthful energy - people coming here from all over. It is definitely not as sleepy as many parts of the world. With that said, it is becoming a bit of a transient place (minus the world class experiences like London or NY). If you are from elsewhere you might find it hard making and keeping friends. I’ve seen lots of people struggle because it’s is hard to build a strong social network. We have a very “shallow” culture here - people are extremely polite but not overly warm and hospitable. We treat one another kind of like neighbours - meaning we’d like to have a cordial, drama-free coexistence and otherwise kind of stick to ourselves.

Here in India students are now going to Australia and other countries over canada a country that shelters terrorists who openly threatened to bomb our planes. This is good and honest review. You did not succeed because you did not go with that mindset. In my case, I was working in India as a Class I gazetted officer with Govt of India. When I got PR, I resigned from the job, just because I knew there is struggle in Canada. If I have an option, I would have definitely gone back. My Dad and my father-in-law, both Govt officers at that time, were upset with me for resigning. They were OK with me going to Canada, but did not like the idea of leaving such a good job. I did struggle initially and did survival jobs, like working in factories etc, but I DO NOT regret my decision at all. But again, it is individual's choice what is their goal. Mine was to give my kids world's perspective. Now they are free to go anywhere in the world, including India. My elder one 26 and younger one 22, have visited so many countries without taking a single penny from me. Their world view is very balanced ... they are very empathetic - thanks to Canadian education system - including school level.

Major difference is the quality of life which you live in countries like Canada is much better than in India, but it comes with being independent and managing your chores on your own. It’s definitely expensive but worth living if quality standards are well maintained. The most important factor where India lacks even today is salaried people are being looted on the name of taxes and still don’t get any benefits like good education or health care for free. Grass is greener on the other side so everywhere living has its on pros and cons and really depends on an individual how they want to live and manage their own world

This is a great video and so true.. but I have looked to escape the US, I am more than financially-free and no family in the states becaused they all died. I lived places for months at a time in the world, its also very lonely when you don't speak the local language or are not part of the culture. I lived on many parts of Europe and South America and traveled to 59 countries.. We are not a part of those cultures, it may make more sense to find communities in the US in rural areas that have co-living, co-working spaces..

This is just my little 2-cent opinion. Feel free to disagree with me or not, I don't care. But all this crap began to escalate since 2007 when smartphones became a thing, and then shifted into a speedrun around 2014 when all this woke social media activism bullshit came along. People stuck in their goddamn phones lost all social ques and etiquette and became more mentally ill. I'm not saying this is the only reason, but it is a large chunk of the problem. \nEdit: and this is not just for Toronto, but all around the world I'm seeing this.

Our Health Care system is broken. We have very bad doctors and insane wait times. Our Health Care is tax funded and it's impossible to sue the hospital if they misdiagnose or mistreat an illness. When you pay for your doctor you will get the best care. Not up here though. One thing per visit and you must see a medical clinic first, if you can get an appointment. My last 2 visits were 14h wait times, and that's at the biggest hospital in BC. \n\nWe don't have free speech. We heavily tax our poorest people. Our gas is over $2 a liter. Food is very expensive especially at fast food places and restaurants. \n\nOur internet is third world at best but with some of the highest data costs in the world. \n\nWe have a run on our borders and our infrastructure is bursting at the seams. We put the needs of other countries before our own. Could be a good thing but not when helping the world is making it harder and harder for those born here to actually live and thrive here.

Back about 15 years ago I was down in Indiana on Ohio. In the people I met in the Midwest states. Great people laid back hard workers. America might have its problems, but so does Canada. Lot of similarities between both countries. And as for Canada's free health care. It's not so good right now. People are having hard time finding doctors. People wait hours to get into appointments. The only thing nice about free healthcare. Is it's free for some people and relatively affordable for other people. But it's not the best healthcare in the world. Like people said, least in America, you can go in and see a doctor and you're in and out pretty quick. But if you don't have free health care yet pay for it

I married my spouse and moved to the United States from Canada. Before, I didn't give the US much thought and merely loved travelling to a few of the locations. Having said that, even after spending five years there, I have never witnessed a country and a population as divided as the US. You proudly display your flag, yet you're so racist, illiterate, and a bible-thumper that it disgusts me. The United States is not the most free country in the world, despite what the public believes and thinks. In reality, it is also depressing to observe how the healthcare system handles people. The social safety net is completely missing, and by that I mean that most jobs don't pay for maternity leaves or vacations unless you work at a senior level or for a high-end company. The political system is so rigged that it is understandable why people are tired of voting every two years, and perhaps even every year. Most certainly, especially since your elections begin almost exactly when the previous one finished. I suppose I could go on forever, but I'll stop here. Although Canada is not perfect, is not free from controversy or problems, and is not the best at everything, we are able to concede defeat, acknowledge that someone was wrong or that we might have done better, work together with one another, and express that we are SORRY. Yes, it is a word that is never used in the US, and that is also the issue. I'm pleased to be back in Canada, where I belong, and I regret ever leaving. Yes, returning to Canada feels peaceful and inviting compared to travelling to the US, where every trip involves an interrogation to ensure that you don't remain too long. There is no need to worry because I won't be returning to stay, only visit, as previously.

The US is the only nation in the free world that does not have universal health care. The cost per person for health care is double in the US than it is in Canada..Big PhRma is ripping you off!

Hey there, you fine American... Just to let you understand, our system is FAR from perfect, but it's still easy access and quick service IF you don't need a rare specialist or a not so rare one). The thing is, it's ALL priority based, so if you wait, it's because someone needs your resources even MORE than you do. Sometimes, it ends up in a tragedy, but MOST times, it allows for the neediest to get it first. \nAs far as having children here, we have a NEGATIVE birthrate, so our government PAYS us to have children. My son grew up in Quebec, and they have a double everything. Double taxes (not that bad after the tax deductions and credits), but they also Double the safety net and services, compared to the rest of Canada. Not only was childbirth free, so were the pre-natal courses and everything else, AND we got around 1000$/mo in childcare benefits, until he turned 18, with full of tax credits per kid. Plus, daycare was 5$/day back then, it's 7$/day almost 20 years later.. Pretty citizen friendly. \nThings MIGHT be changing though. Our conservatives are taking their talking points from the US GOP since COVID, and they are all-in to please their Oil lobby overlords and donators out in our prairies region. The Alberta Premier is a far-right conspiracy nutcase and her new pet-project is Capitalist healthcare (among her trolley of lunacies). SAME place the far-right rednecks always come at us from. I live in Canada as a Kenyan and I have been here for sometime .I work as a HR/Payroll Specialist also certified in the field. The problem is not Canada , Canada is a very good county which I love and I am gland God gave me the Opportunity to Come and settle here with my family.. The problem with some people coming here is lacking of knowledge how Canada works .It’s system is very far from how things work in Dubai or Gulf countries. A lot people are thinking than you can just come and get any job even without proper papers or you can earn a lot of money and then build wealth quickly. Which is A BIG FAT LIE. The tax in Canada keeps you humble. That is how Canada funds it's high end life many admire and want to be part of. The more you work in Canada the more tax you pay and many don't know this, and it is one of the main reasons why a lot of people start to regrets, because they realize there effort of working hard is not paying as they hoped. Another thing in Canada is next to impossible to get jobs or rent a place without proper paper work, like work permit, It is not like USA where you can use someone else papers to work. the The main available jobs , easy to get , don’t pay much. And also the cost of living is very high in some provinces like Ontario and BC. They hardly recognize credentials from outside unless you came through a job offer. Also because a lot of things in Canada are paid by the government through taxes, like health care, education. Unless you are tax paper with (and I repeat) Paper work, you cant access the benefit, including thee free food available for the needy. \nMany people forget Canada is looking for people to work for them. Not to grow rich and leave. The system is meant to keep you working. Unless you understand how a system of a country works, one will continue to blame it. Let people get well informed and well educated first , before they jump in the river. And it’s not Canada a lone , but any country in the world. Also a lot of these media post about Canada are misleading. And there is also another trap called debt, a lot of people once they getting working, rush to but things they cant afford and it becomes a stress instead of a blessings.\nIf you want to live well and enjoy Canada . One of the top thing to do is, go back to school once you enter in it, get a good education and you will get a good job. Also give yourself time to adjust. REMEMBER you are starting from square one. You are not continuing where you left in Kenya or in the country you get from. Also, the general social climate is not as friendly as those in USA for example. Not many people are willing to help for free. The most jobs advertised in Canada are the lower end paying jobs, which a lot of people pay a lot of money to come for, just to realize the job they left behind was far much better than this, but no one told them that, just because it said $18 hrs and you converted it to your country and looked a lot, doesnt mean it carries the same wait once you earn in from here. The living expense are very different. The reality is, it is not where you are , but whom you are and determination knows no barrier. Anyone who will trust God for help, work hard/smart and be patience in life, they will make. It might take longer than they expect, but they will get their eventually.

Why is it such a problem for people to want to move somewhere else I feel like the whole world should be free to go where they want when they want as long as they are doing no harm to anyone else I mean they want to come and live here and get jobs and suffer like the rest of us then why is that a bad problem.

If our educational programs for third world country allies is so bad, just eliminate the free grants and visas for those students. You make it sound as though the outcome is terrible. As a first gen Chinese American, and to be fair to the US, please remember (1) US has a border with Mexico, which means illegal immigration is so much bigger than legal ones that it sucks up much of the government immigration resources. (2l when the US population is as small as Canada's today, US was not only letting in people from all over the world but also giving them free land (google the homestead acts).

Tyler why would anyone want to move to America? America is a 3rd world country in respect of the provision of basic human rights for its citizens. Healthcare, affordable housing, education, workers' rights, and work-life balance also mass shootings. Here in the Uk, we changed the law in 1996 after the Dunblane Massacre and have not had a mass shooting since in Australia they did the same after Port Arthur with the same result.The 2nd amendment can be changed clue is in the title it's an amendment. Each countries have their pros and cons. Yes guns and religions are a big turn off but in Canada we're not as free as in USA. \nHere, in Canada, i can't defend myself or my home, i have to way for the police to show up (and it take enough time for the cops to find a corps) if i do and do arm or kill the offenderl, i end up in jail which leaves Canadians with 2 choices. I’ve lived in both countries in small towns and big cities Hell No Thanks and I would have great insurance. I remember in preschool having to do active shooter drills in the US nope. If you look at stats on gun violence and mass shootings it’s crazy. The US leads by an astronomical amount. Tyler says the US has more access to guns and although I have no idea where to get a gun I think people could get one pretty easily but we don’t need them. I can walk in the dark and not fear for my safety and Canada has only had 3 mass shootings in its whole history. Of course medical, dental, education, women’s rights, maternity and paternity leave, unemployment, help when Covid lockdown happened, clean free water in homes, housing, … on and on. America the “free” is antiquated and no longer true. Education has slid to 30 something in world rankings and Canada is in the top 3. Cost of education, daycare, child benefits ect. I could write paragraphs. Also it’s hilarious when you hear American say oh we’ll just moved to Canada like they can just drive here and settle down?!?there’s a border and you can’t illegally just move here and get a job. If you’ve lived in both countries you’d know the difference. I don’t even want to vacation there anymore since about 10 years or so ago.

Health care is a huge one. Most western nations have remarkable healthcare systems in place. The U.S. healthcare will bankrupt any individual or family in a crisis situation. The second is the amount of violence in America. The U.S. is THE most violent first world nation on the planet. There are more mass shootings pet month than some nations have seen in their entire history. Having armed guards at schools or teaching children how to duck and weave when escaping a school shooter is not normal under any circumstances. There is a compliance in the U.S. with regards to day-to-day violence and even the NRA takes no responsibility. If you were a typical American your country would be one of the best places in the free world instead of one of the worst.

I think the best reasons for people to want to live in Canada is for the safety. Laws of no violence and no weapons in public. Our rapid response of Police, Fire and medical (there are bills for the Ambulance and Fire response so we do get billed at times, which also can be brought to our judicial system and potentially the bill can be dropped). \nAll across the world people need safety for their families and Canada takes refugees in large quantities. Refugee families are given a sponsored house, vehicle, paid for bills (including medical and educational) and a paid food allowance to live in until they stabilize themselves with full time work and when they are ready they can make room for other refugee families in need. \nWe have a huge area of land that is underdeveloped and there are plenty of opportunities for work in the infrastructure field. \nCanada is known across the world to host friendliness amongst its free citizens. \nAlso we aid any country in need and are the first country to respond to any natural disaster world wide. \nWe have our flaws but we feel safe and cared for with those flaws.

I was once asked by a American colleague why did I not immigrated to the USA, the answer is: it was not even in the list of possible countries. In fact it is on my top list of places not to move to. \n\nYou have a good insurance through your job? That only means you have one more reason to fear losing it or stay on a particularly bad one if you don’t have anything lined up, if you have a chronic health condition, then you are straight out hostage to your employer. Even if you do have good insurance your bills may one day go beyond the maximum and you still risk bankruptcy. \n\nIf you do go bankrupt, in any civilized country you can’t go to jail for debt, in the USA you can, the country with the highest incarcerated population in the world in absolute numbers and relative too. To add salt to the injury it is a country that did not completely make slave work illegal, it is still legal if you are not a free citizen and your prison system exploit that.\n\nSo it is a country that you can become slave because you got sick.\n\nThen there are the guns… the fact you think you are exempt of school shootings says it all, if you live in a small city it would not affect you? Are you really saying mass shootings never occur in small cities?! We have amusement parks too and FYI, healthcare is totally free, we don't have to pay for it, not ever, not any procedure, period. Gun violence, need I say more. I like that there is the second amendment and that you can carry firearms BUT there has t be a better way of implementing it, too much gun violence, school shootings, mass shootings, it's just too scary to live there. I go to the US and I am always shocked by how people treat the service industry, waiters, waitresses, anyone that is in a position of service are treated like CRAP (for the most part), customers don't say please or thank you, they are not polite ay all, never got that, entitled people everywhere. The attitude that America is the greatest country in the world, where do they get off? America is the only free country? I think not. Abortion issue, the new bullcrap happening with TRANS and LGTBQXYZ and I have to play along with their mental disorders and fantasies, no thank you. I do not want to walk down the street in fear of my life, why in GOD's name would I want to live in a country that is the equivalent of a school bully.

The world is a free for all these days, they’ll make their way over anyways we all know it, and which ever one’s come over on a visa overstay anyways, and it’s our job as real Americans to pay for it lmao what a fucking joke the world is, gunna find somewhere in life and build a cabin to stay away from the world

I think your video is well done. I used to love visiting the US especially the west and have fond memories of our travels .Now we don't travel to the US because of the gun violence and so many guns. Most Canadians don't want guns and think gun control should be very strict. I am very content with the way things are in Canada. We have high taxes but we have so many benefits, like maternity leave of 12 months or more. We have free healthcare with no premiums to pay. We have at least 2 government pensions , one we help contribute to and one is totally government funded plus a guarantee supplement if needed . Most people also have a company or union \npension . Most people retire between 60 to 65 years , but its certainly not compulsory. Canada is hoping to have a 4 day work week soon. Our federal government is generous helping with supplements for food etc. We welcome newcomers and we have a very diverse population. I have traveled to different parts of the world and I am very content here.

Canadas Future as a Free World Retirement Nation. Highest Taxes in all the world if you want to come live here, & the Refugees coming will serve & produce as needed.
