Hi Lynn, l live in Banbury, Oxfordshire. There is nothing in the west, Africans are better off in Africa. Life in England is like attending a top school where you have to work so hard to keep up. Theoretically in the west, the first 40% to 50% of your wages goes in taxes. This leaves you with half your income. Your half income will then cover your rent/mortgage and all other bills. Once you have paid eve body, your basically left with nothing. Our lifes are in forever debt spinning wheel. I am a Ugandan, lived in the UK for 33yrs. This is home and is l know. But l am sure many places are better than here. What is guaranteed is food and health. Food is very cheap in relation to people's income. Health services are free, kids education are free too. These are the things you can't guarantee in Africa. Could be the main reason many foreigners choose to settle in the UK. Thank you.

Hi Lynn, this is a very interesting conversation. I moved to Canada in 2003 went to college and became a nurse. First of all it was not easy paying for college I was lucky that husband was supporting with the bills as I went to school. So I would say that I have skills that are very marketable. Our combined family income was over $100,000 CAN. We mortgaged our first home which was very basic for a LOT of money. We had our kids and we had to struggle with childcare as most young families do. By North American standard, we were doing good. We each had a good car ( loaned), we made trips to Kenya every so often but in 2016 we decided we wanted to move back home and we sold our home and we did. I HAVE NO REGRETS. There were several things that made us reach our decision. First, I truly believe that for the Canadian system to work as it does, it has to entrap its residents. Even after 10 years of work we did not have money in the bank. Everything we owned really belonged to the bank. The light bulb moment for me came when I evaluated my net worth. A primary school teacher in Kenya after 10 years of work with good financial management will own a plot, a simple house and will start to invest for retirement. After 10 years of work, there wasn't much in the account, our house would need 25 years to finish paying mortgage and to be honest there wasn't much to show for those years of work. Quality of life really sucks the amount of stress will definitely send you to the grave sooner. This is the case for most first generation immigrants. You might say you are sacrificing and building a future for your children but, my observation was since our diaspora children have not grown in Kenya to see the need for money and what life really looks like without the comforts they are used to, they do not have the same drive as the parents so they often do not excel they are just ordinary. There is also the struggle of growing up as a minority group. A lot of our children because they are seeking acceptance will struggle with self esteem, will have depression or will join the LGBTQ community where they get sense of belonging regardless of their colour. The morals are also different from their parents and they are shaped by the society they grow up in. When I looked at what my life would look like if we kept living there, lets say we eventually pay off our mortgage, when we are old and requiring care, our children will not be able to support themselves and support us because they have to work to sustain themselves so we would to move to assisted living or nursing homes. The cost of senior care is not covered by the government unless you have no money. so we have to sell out home which would be old and outdated but still very expensive and we would have to pay $5000-$10000 per month depending on the type of care we need. so as you can see if we ended in a nursing home for 5 years we will have depleted all the money we made from the sale of our home. So by the time we die, we would not have money to leave for our children. So we worked really hard, supported the economy, and die leaving not much at all for our children, we sacrificed our quality of life, and ended up with children who don't think much of themselves or have very distorted morals. I still remember in my mind as we drove to the airport on our way back to Kenya, I thought of the story of Lot. He was pretty successful in Sodom but I'm very sure on his death bed he had lots of regrets why he ever went there. I know its tough being in Kenya but if you have a job or any way to make ends meet, be like Abraham. God will bless you regardless of whether you are in the dessert.

Toronto is horribly congested and only getting worse by the day. TO public transit has nothing to compare with major cities like London, NYC, Paris, Tokyo... just packing in more condos to make billionaires richer and the people left to struggle with 1960s infrastructure. Quality of life going downhill. Know many Toronto born children among our friends now reaching adulthood are leaving.

Young people need to leave GTA and YVR to start a life without debt. These cities are totally unaffordable to young families.

I agree with all of your points in this video. While I love this city and I’ve lived here all my life, there’s a lot of things I’m not happy to witness at all. Everything has gone downhill but it’s not making me want to leave T.O. I love almost everything about it but those social issues have just plagued it, even I’m not surprised so many people are moving out. I’d rather stay here and overcome those situations than move because everywhere else is so expensive Your opinions are transparent otherwise and yes, it might be the effects of post-covid. I wish things were a lot better than now but, it will just take time.

I get all the angst about how this city has changed, but I'm not ready to leave yet. It's worth noting that what is happening here is happening in major cities all through western civilisation to some extent (or will soon be), especially in similar cities like Sydney and Melbourne. I know that the Toronto I knew and loved is gone, but these problems are medium term issues. I don't think it's going to stay this way forever, and there are good things happening as well. Life is full of ups and downs and right now this is the down part.

He's complaining but not leaving. He's had more than enough time to return back home.\n\nContext is always important when taking advice. Canada like anywhere in the world isn't for everyone. Yet people are moving there from all over the world like US, India, UK, Asia etc. \n\nMany of us are not after money, we just want a working system and security, I don't want to live in a country with fear for my life.

Until you experience the horrors they have gone through don’t throw stones in glass houses the immigration system has been broken for years if people waited until it’s their time no one would realistically get through since there is a 20 year backlog and children who were brought here 20 years ago have been thrown out because they themselves were still not approved a decade or more later. Part of the issue is red state lax gun laws allowing cartels easy access to heavy machinery that can be taken back across the border. Do you really think corruption isn’t running all the way to the top and that the American government has not helped worsen the issues when any of these countries want control of their own fossil fuel. Consider how many rich people get to jump in line or border patrol on both sides being able to keep out legal crossings if you can’t pay their fees. If you fight the cartel military or government you will find yourself dead imprisoned and or tortured and if they are fleeing to save their family and willing to leave their whole life behind to go to a country whose language they don’t speak do you really think they can walk all the way to the border wait in a single file line hope they can request asylum and then wait 40 years to maybe get a call back for a hearing these ppl are forced into a rock and a hard place and for the majority of American politics most politicians have no interest on really figuring out a comprehensive and compassionate system to help get immigrants out of dangerous situations America barely cares about it’s homeless citizens veterans mentally or physically Ill every country is having serious issues because often leaders are really only looking out for themselves

I was born here and I feel sorry for those that leave their countries to come to Canada. Canada is basically a banana republic. If you travel out of the major cities in any direction 200 km, you will realize that Canada is 3rd world. Its people live a trailer park life. Canada is a scam.

The most depresssing factor of canada is it's weather...\nIntially i was not realizing it bt it just dawned on me that how important is sunlight for your body and also for your mental health especially in winters......yahan pe sirf 3 mahine hi suraj rehta hai..june july and August .... september se leke may mid tak.rarely you will get a glimpse of sunlight...\nI mean you wake-up every morming nd its always dark and gloomy outside from September end till april end....you dpnt feel like doing anything...especially in winter's you wake up at 9 o'clock and 4 oclock its dark.....you have no idea how much it effects your mental health...people get depressed mentally and also gets deficit of vitamin d...also government have legalized Marijuana and saying oh it will make your mind feel happy and you will not get stressed anymore...i mean how come...government is killing you softly..they dont want you to think higher..they want you to leave behind....i realized most of the people suffer from knee pain..joint pain bcoz they dont get enough sunlight ....\nI read somewhere that most of the suicide case happens inthe month of January bcoz this is the month when people get more depressed....i must say comparatively to canada india is the best place to stay ....you will get sunlight whole year... also in Toronto there is no such social life as india ...so much taxes by the government...houses are getting expensive.....all you r doing is just work , come home. Canada won't be my choice in leaving my country, the west even in consideration but leaving the country isn't mostly due to financial struggles, it has something to do with the future and avoidance of insecurities and restrains due to the government in Nigeria in particular. Nigeria looks like all hope is going to be lost and no one wants to get trapped when that time comes, when they see themselves with alot of potential ahead of them. Nigeria represents stagnation, lack of progress and a strong resistance to innovation.\n\nThe feeling of being mistreated in your own home, abandoned, restrained, suppressed and deprived of the basic necessities in life. I left Canada last year for these same reasons. Enjoying the best of life in Nigeria now. Life is too short to stay depressed and heavily billed in Canada. Most Canadians are leaving from paycheck to paycheck. Life is slow paced and easier here in Nigeria. Bye bye to Canadians bills, crazy mortgage and skyrocketing food prices.

Well, I moved to the UK because I wanted to live there. I guess I never really liked Nigeria and unlike many of my counterparts, I consider leaving Nigeria the best thing to have ever happened to me. What I have been able to do since living in the UK for 8yrs now, none of my counterparts have been able to achieve close. And don't get me started on the quality of life. Each to their own

I am suprised at how we down play the cost of our life options. Leaving Nigeria for Canada for the sake of your kids is huge and will come at a cost. Why make it sound like you are entitled to all you used to have while taking advantage of what the new life provides? In simple terms you can't eat your cake and have it. Relocation is an intentional decision and we all need to brace up for the differences it may bring to our lives. Prioritize what you value and proceed accordingly. Don't keep longing for Egypt when you are heading for your promised land. By the way we can reverse migrate if we so choose...no one is stoping you.

Beware of the single narrative. He’s speaking from his own experience, but it’s not the same as everybody’s. I’ve lived in Canada now for 4 years…got my citizenship this year. I lived in Nigeria for the 10 years prior to moving to Canada, and I also schooled and lived in the UK before that, so I speak with a wealth of diverse experiences. \n\nBefore you move to Canada or anywhere else for that matter, do the following:\n\n1. Research the country you’re moving to…what jobs are in demand, how that aligns with your qualifications…if you need to recertify or retrain in a different field. Many people move here thinking “oh I was a bank manager in Nigeria, so I’ll move here and become a bank manager”. It doesn’t work that way. The streets of Canada are littered with qualified medical doctors who drive Uber because they didn’t understand how difficult it would be to be certified to practice here.\n\n2. Find role models who are living the life you aspire to, or who have made similar moves and seek advice or guidance, and learn what they did right/wrong. Don’t just assume because your friend moved here, you can also move here and live the same life. You don’t share the same life experiences, history or have the same network.\n\n3. Before you immigrate physically, you have to immigrate mentally…be in the right mindset to live in a new country, understand their culture and learn to adapt. If you’re expecting to leave Nigeria and move to Canada to live a Nigerian lifestyle with “owambe” parties every weekend, or having 4 cars and 3 housemaids, then you’re still living in Nigeria mentally. Even Justin Trudeau does not drive 4 cars.\n\nI work in tech, so I knew that with God’s grace I’d find a way to succeed here. My wife worked in a Nigerian bank, and was able to transition to tech after we arrived here. Our combined annual income is roughly $500k, and we both work less than 40 hours a week, and I believe God will continue to bless us. I have easily 20 or 30 friends and colleagues who moved within a year or two of each other, and everyone is doing fine and working in tech jobs paying 6-figures. \n\nDon’t be discouraged by people’s failures and hardships. With the right planning and mindset, you can achieve your goals in any country. Reach out to people on LinkedIn, build a network and ask for advice (constructively)…many like us are more than willing to help.

Imagine being a doctor, lawyer, or engineer in your own country, living a comfortable life, earning a comfortable wage, and you naively leave all that because you think you'll move to Canada thinking you will live the Canadian dream of a better life. Almost all immigrants have a way better job in their country but they come to Canada still. It's so sad that immigrants believe these silly lies. Canada is hard to live in and it is expensive! Why leave your country??? Stay in your country and stop coming to Canada thinking it is easy, it is not easy, it is hard people are suffering and need to work 2-3 jobs to survive! Stay in your country!

Many immigrants find the first few years difficult because of the job ethics. The job ethics here in Canada is quite different from Nigerian with a laidback background. In Canada you work for every cent and it has really worked for them and some of us. I have employed so many Africans especially Nigerians who thought I am mean because they have to work for every penny. You are not paid to come and have a chitchat at work or spend 5 hours on something that could take you 3 hours to do. I will say if you can't change your work ethics and try to integrate into the Canadian system please stay back in your country. I have also seen people who have been clouded with that high life they lived back home and find it difficult to Start at the bottom. Even if you are living a good life in Nigeria, Canada is a better place to live if you can unlearn some things and relearn other things.\nAnd is there systemic racism? The answer is YES. If our leaders treat us right, 80 percent of our people won't leave their country. Let's hold our government responsible not the north American government or their people.

They want to enjoy the infrastructure, education, security in Canada without putting in the requisite hard work that make those things possible! \nThey want to behave like they do in Nigeria where a Doctor employed in a Teaching hospital will not report for work or report late and still take his full salary home at the end of the month. They divert patients to their private clinics and rip them off. And they won't even pay tax! \nCanada is so hard yet he wants to get a Canadian citizenship for himself and children, what an irony!\nWhy did he leave all the good life in Nigeria to relocate in the first place?why?

I moved to Canada last few months ago. \nLife changes from the moment you pick your bags yourself at the airport!\nLots of dua for you and your life here. \nBe very very strong! Thats what you need the most here. Your strongest. Rest leave it all on Allah!

Born and raised in Canada for 64 years, working middle class all my life has shown me that in the last 2 decades the middle class here keep moving towards poverty because of the increased cost of living and taxes. I will likely have to leave my own country when I retire soon and am resentful that all my years of hard work leads to that. Its a choice between living on the streets or moving away. Our government has catered to the wealthy and given false rhetoric about making sure the middle class working Canadians have a decent life. At $2800 for a 1 bedroom apartment, $2 a litre for gas, high car insurance rates, lower wages than other major cities. My tax dollars pay for public parks that now charge to park in them so only the rich can afford to go. That’s just one example of the poor and middle class getting screwed over.

If you're thinking of coming to Canada. Think again.\n\nCanada is experiencing a housing and services crisis brought on by its open immigration policy. We didn't build out housing and services to meet the increased demand. This problem started in our three largest cities, but has since cascaded across the entire country.\n\nStudent? Expect to pay $400 USD a month to live in a basement room, shared in a 150 year old house in the worst part of the city with 8-14 other students. I help renovate these rooms and I've yet to see one that wasn't covered in mouse droppings.\n\nIf you're a professional, expect to room up. Canadian salaries lag well behind their US counterparts so prepare to pay out 60% of your monthly earnings on rent.\n\nNeed to go to the hospital? Wait times range from 5 hours to 48 hours. If you leave the waiting room because you need to.. I don't know... eat, then you forfit your spot.\n\nWant to buy a house? Good luck with that. You'll need either rich parents, two unusally high powered incomes, or preferably both.\n\nMany Canadians are starting to leave for the US or places like Columbia or Cambodia as they feel their quality of life is much better. You also don't experience four months of winter in these places.

Ladies, for all these reasons, every single one, I'm considering leaving - and I was born here and lived here my entire life.

Life expectancy in Canada is 87 years. Unfortunately, is it much lower in most of other country. Just thing about it before leaving!

Diversity and minorities acceptance is relatively better in Canada. As an immigrant, the US would have been a big yes had it been thr 1990s but sadly, the perception to US changed drastically after then and would not want to live in the US even if given a job offer in Boston ( a beautiful city i fell in love with). Just because of what is happening on the political scene. If I need to leave Canada, it would be for Europe where work/life balance, public transit and culture of enjoying life prevails. American corporate culture is depressing.

I have lived in different parts of Canada my whole life, but always seem to end up in majority conservative areas. I do not consider myself a conservative. Even though I don't agree with everyone's politics, I can still live here feeling relatively safe and accepted.\nWhen things get a bit much and I feel like maybe home doesn't feel safe or match my values, I never look at the USA as my exit plan. I have considered Sweden, and Finland before anywhere else. I also wonder if it's just the sheer volume of people that Canadians aren't used to when they visit the states. Your population is massive compared to ours, and it's hard to imagine the quality of life that I have here being easy to emulate down there without drastic changes.\nThen there's my vacation and sick time at work. Maternity leaves etc... so many quality of life things to consider. I look at the housing prices and really wish I could get over the other things. But as a Medical Laboratory Technologist, I could never work in your fee for service word. I know what hospital CEOs are doing to your healthcare from the diagnostic side - the shortcuts that are being made to make more money - and I could never do that with my ethics.\nI hope Canada wasn't too rough on you - we can be pretty shitty some times lol... and not even be sorry about it.

I would not consider moving to the US because I have a lot of health problems and I wouldn't be able to get coverage for my conditions. In Canada I've had 4 times when I've had to go in for emergency surgery and they get me into surgery in a few hours (basically the time it takes to do all the blood work and prep). I know people complain about long wait times, but that's only for non threatening illness/injuries. There can be a line of people waiting for hours with their minor injuries, but that's because people with serious problems get bumped to the front of the line. That has saved my life on multiple occasions. I've also had to wait 4 months for surgeries that weren't life threatening, so I know what that's like too, but I'd rather wait longer for something non life threatening knowing that it's because they leave room for emergencies. \nMy sister moved to the US a year ago for her husband's job and his job has benefits that cover everything. They seem to enjoy it (they live in one of those custom built communities in Florida that is basically a Country Club)

I don't know if you know this Tyler but America just hit its final hour, 250 years is the expiration date for empires and your United States just hit that mark. Plus have you seen the way Canadians have socialized systems that give us a high quality of life. Our current government is still capitalist but I currently can't be kicked out by federal mandate if I keep paying rent, the liberals have put this provision in place because the housing market is out of control. The liberals under Trudeau also helped the first nation's people more than ANY priminister to date and he dealt with the mass graves the best a light skinned priminister could. He's facing the same issues Biden is facing, the Koch brothers and Peter Thiel are pumping out propogada like transphobia, climate change, trickle down economics and poisoning the left by buying up publications with there infinite dark money.\n\n56 billion was spent last year on influence alone, That means 100,000 Americans saving ALL their money for 10 years would just match Koch influence powers they have in 1 year. \n\nYour housing market was destroyed by the Koch Brothers, they destroyed our water supplies up north fracking bitumen out of the land. \n\nThen when Koch wanted to leave the oil sands they made a propoganda piece pointing the blame at Trudeau.\n\nSo ya, no one wants to go to he country Koch brothers already control 100% were being fought over by Peter thiel who isn't any better.

Never lived in the US but have visited a lot. I do have family in Washington state and I really enjoy visiting that part of the country. I didn't like New York and California only because of the sheer amount of people. Way too many people for my liking. Walking down the streets I felt like I was being shoulder checked with every step. In some smaller areas, absolutely loved the people and communities. Very friendly, and I find Americans to be very patriotic which I absolutely love! Health care and gun violence would be enough to keep me away though. Now in 2023, I find America becoming political polarized. Just watching the news is enough to raise my blood pressure (which I don't even have). If I got a chance to leave the snow behind, I think I would choose overseas on a island somewhere. Also at the age where I want peace and quiet. Raised kids already so more on the downlow and quite beach life. Thanks for your videos Tyler you are definitely one of my favorite Americans. I have spina bifida and I’ve had 20+ surgeries. I’m not leaving a country that kept me out of bankruptcy and death and kept me from getting shot. I’m white, but I’m not playing Russian Roulette with my life. I just in the last few years discovered cannabis as relief for my chronic pain. I know there are some places where it’s legal, but it isn’t worth the risk for me. I remember visiting LA when I was 12 and hearing about how cool and hip Beverly Hills was. When I got there, it looked worse than the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver, which is one of the poorest, most crime filled places in Canada. It was scary. That’s not the kind of “freedom” I’m looking for. You can’t exercise any freedom when you’re 6 feet under.

I would consider living in the USA but I would lose many of my Canadian veterans benefits and services that I currently receive. My grandparents are from North Dakota. I could use that to get citizenship through derivation… but then there would be the requirement to file income taxes in both countries. Any tax free benefits I get as a Canadian vet, would loose their tax free status and become taxable if I claimed my citizenship… so I have decided not too. If these issues were not in play, I would consider moving to northern Minnesota or Montana or Vermont. Somewhere close to the Canadian border, close to family but in a better climate zone. I like growing my own food and a longer growing season with nicer forests would be awesome. The climate in Manitoba is not the greatest for growing a variety of trees… and the trees do not get very big. I love Orlando and spend about 6 weeks a year there… but I could not see myself living there full time. Sometimes I will drive the 3600 km south to Orlando and I get a really good view of the wealth disparity in the USA… So that alone, I am happier in Canada… knowing that there is a better safety net for us should a situation in life happen that would leave you broke and homeless in the USA

So true , I had the same experience when I went to UK. I had to leave my job for the sake of my granddaughter 's birth. Went to UK as my daughter was not keeping well . Now we are staying in London for last 5months at our Daughter's home as she had expecting to deliver in March 2023. Here Government work to make life of the citizens easy and in India Government work to make the life of citizens miserable. Here road, transport, cleaning is managed properly, but in India total mismagement. We have everything in India. Good climate, good food, mountains, rivers, sea, Ice, but due to polytitics and corruption we have made India to live unbearable and our new generation doesn't find future and leaving India for best future for themselves and their children, but that don't understand that though they get British citizenship they are not British they are outsiders. You wanted freedom from British so you fought for freedom and now when you got your freedom you are leaving India and want to settle in their Country and want British Citizenship.

I live in canada and am starting my final year of high-school in the fall. I have a lot of friends my age, none of us are planning to stay. All of us are going to the States or Europe. We're not leaving because we don't like Canada, we're being forced out because its too expensive to survive. The last two years have been a slow realization that the options for people my age are A) live on the support of your parents for the rest of your foreseeable life, B) become homeless, or C) leave.\n\nIts especially painful because a lot of people here came from immigrant families who worked hard to come here for a better life for their kids, just to have their kids leave for elsewhere or even return to their country of origin.

I’m desperately trying to leave Ontario. Grew up in southern Ontario my whole life very close to Toronto. It’s been going downhill for years now and although most people don’t tend to notice, we have a very bad overpopulation problem here which makes living and working here a living hell especially if you have to drive everyday.

There is more opportunities, because more companies choose the USA. We have a higher population so even thought there is more job opportunities in the USA, it is also very competitive. Your video gave a point to Canada for vacation and maternity leave rather than innovation and job opportunities. A lawyer in the USA has a better chance of practicing law than a Canadian lawyer.
