I was thinking to send my 8 years old niece to teach Trump how to do good trade. She does it so well (polite,respectful, considerate) to get treats (chocolates, food, etc.) from us.

As a u.s citzen I'm appalled and ashamed of my president. The elites got what they want but doesn't mean it will last they talk about exposing corruption but yet are doing some pretty corrupt things why do we only get 2 choices for a president and lesser of two evils why don't we pick someone with morals and that have the best interest for our country and people not just the rich cause I've been struggling before during and after trump maybe we need new congress and stop this dumbass blame game of pointing fingers when dems and rep come together we can be unstoppable why are people so stupid and selfish like we have it easier than most country's last I knew we don't eat cats or dogs so that tells me are economy not as bad as other places just seems like the rich are losing and this will help them stay rich. I don't like Biden or trump but my god does no one notice the segregation that's pushing us apart? we were all for Ukraine before and now plp wanna act differently without facts or knowledge kids family's they are dying cause putin is a prime example of a dictator.... praying and hoping we come together to fix this and show our next generation on what not to do.

Presumably the whole point of tariffs on Canada is to raise revenues to cover the tax cuts for the oligarchs that he hopes will keep his or his family permanently in power. From that point of view it makes sense to put the tariffs on the biggest trade partners. The tax breaks the oligarchs get will allow them to buy up and control the media on his behalf. Nothing to do with fentanyl. That's just a lie that US citizens are stupid enough to swallow.

Trump succeeded in getting Canada and Mexico to protect the US border, something the US couldn't do for decades. Claiming that drugs were flooding into the US from Canada is another Trump lie that the media promotes constantly. Trump is a dangerous fool, thinking he will buddy up with Russia and come out ahead. We all know it was never about DRUGS and Illegal immigrants anyone with a brain should know it was always about the MONEY, ITS ALWAYS ABOUT THE MONEY. Trump should of just told them honestly, no more FREE period instead of making these countries put resources at the border. Trump play a game to get 2 for 1 by making them secure the borders and making them pay tariffs all at the cost of the American people if Americans do stuffer. But I do again with the tariffs everyone should pay considering that all the factories run to these foreign countries for cheaper labor, and Americans are your biggest buyers. Any country who wants FREE should be ashamed of themselves. Maybe Canada should be free US and Canada had a good relationship. But Mexico and China NOT at all.

Maybe he should discuss the constant duty fees and border crossing fees for anything shipped from Canada to the USA that have been constantly rising for years; fees that his very own government sets. Maybe he should talk about Canada demanding that anyone that sells anything foodwise to anyone in Canada from the USA has to have a special Safe Food For Canadians Food License or the goods being shipped will be rejected at the US owners cost, seized by the border and held in storage at the US owners cost, and destroyed and billed to the US owner. A license that no one actually needs considering other legal and ethical controls are in place to prevent unsafe foods from crossing the border, but Canada reserves the right to make us pay for one or we suffer consequences. Maybe he should discuss how they left their borders open to migrants, making it much easier for criminal migrants to get into the US. Maybe he should understand that the US has always been bleeding money to Canada on a trade level for about half a century with it getting much worse in the last decade because Canada's government are greedy. Before any of you come at me, keep in mind I work in the food ingredient industry as an order processing, logistics and customs & border crossing and have done so for 15 years. These tariffs were a long time coming and if any of you are on the inside of trade in the manner I am, then you know what I'm saying is true. The US is constantly paying additional tariffs by way of duty fees, customs fees, certain applied taxes (like there is literally a blueberry tax to ship US grown blueberries into Canada to prevent US blueberries from taking over the Canadian blueberry market). The blueberry tax is about 25cents per lb. which drives the price per lb. up for the seller and buyer. You wanna know why Food costs so much? All of the above with a huge side helping of GREED.

As an American, i hope that the world does react to the United States as Canada has. And even worse. I think Trump is trying to put all his eggs into Russia. And Russia’s probably going to try to completely take over Ukraine to get their minerals. The US is probably going to start sending their support to Russia. Russia will then give those minerals to the US.

Agree with Trudeau here, and as a Canadian conservative, that’s not something I say easily. But let’s get real here. Trump is NOT a smart guy. He has cratered most businesses he’s started, he has no understanding of economics whatsoever and he speaks like a five-year old. Conversely, here in Canada and around the world (including many in the US who are voicing heir support here) we have A LOT of smart people and an enormous amount of good will, and we will persevere and overcome. This is very scary. Again, what Trump is doing makes no sense - there is no economic or political sense to it. So what is he doing it for ?? To reduce our trade deficit? We have a huge deficit with Canada because we import so much oil from them, which our refiners require. On top of that we get Canadian oil for first cheap when compared to the global price mark for oil. This keeps US petroleum prices LOW! So okay if this is the issue, why not just find ways to improve the economics of U.S. oil production instead of smacking all Canadian imports with a 25% hammer ??? He has ulterior motives and it’s to weaken the American spirit and sell what he has on American to Russia. And our Congress isn’t doing anything !!!

The problem is the US runs a deficit of 6% and piles up public debt although unemployment is extremely low , so instead of raising income tax or other social security contributions, the new administration tries to get money from tariffs, it will work like an increase of VAT . Cutting expenditure and increasing income to finance the federal budget through tariffs is another way to reduce deficits. The price however is to loose a lot of partners and the status of a super power.
