This could be the fall of the US ?? \nIf they do not dominate they lose to China simple as that.\nThey cannot dominate, by bullying long term friends and allies and cosying upto dictators.\nMaybe they have decided if you can’t beat them then join them!

Trump is an asset of Vladimir Putin. When you look at who ultimately benefits from all the craziness because of Trump, it’s Putin. He is the benefactor of everything Trump is doing. We knew this a long time ago, he didn’t even want to peacefully transfer power, caused a riotous assault on the US capital, he has now given Putin everything when it comes to Ukraine, made a pathetic adolescent attempt to demonize Zelensky, and yet he still sits as the leader of the most power country in the world. He should be rotting in jail for the rest of his life. He has betrayed everything free democracies stand for.

Wasn't he the one who locked people in their homes and oppressed them? I'm a bit ashamed to lecture others now. Canadians are smart, they've been wanting to get rid of you for a long time now

Can I be Canadian? :). In all seriousness, I wonder if these tariffs will last long. Perhaps Trump will cancel them in the near future and claim, incorrectly of course, that Canada and Mexico (maybe China) made some sort of concessions and that his tariffs worked... What a turnip of a leader, and that's being unkind to turnips...

We, the EU, stand with Canada. Only together we can stop dictators like Trump and Putin. Only together we will succeed. Long live the free democratic world.

Americans stay united. There will be short term pain for long term growth for Americans. Canada tax us more than we tax them and now we are taxing them the same they are crying. Most Americans stands with President Trump.

Riiiiight...Trump is dumb...says the man who has a 10% approval rating and may go down as the worst PM in Canadian history. He's genuinely one of the more incompetent world leaders we've seen in a long time....right there w FJB. These are dangerous men bc of their stupidity.

The reality is: the US has reached a record high trade deficit with Canada. This deficit has grown steadily since 1976 (today it is just shy of $100 billion - meaning the US purchases $100 billion more worth of goods from Canada than Canada does from the US). The US imposing tariffs on Canada is a tactic to incentivize US companies who import goods from Canada to move manufacturing/production sourcing back to American soil. This promotes investment and expansion into the US economy. It will also incentivize Canada to commit to investing in the US economy. This would be a negotiation move by Trudeau: we (Canada) will commit to purchasing $25 billion (for example) dollars more of goods from the US if you agree to reduce the tariffs you've imposed on us to blank (maybe 5%). This is likely the end goal Trump is aiming for in the long run.

Seems like trump wants to destroy America. Prepare for a long and difficult recession.

It is disheartening to see a long and beneficial relationship deteriorate and without any clear benefits anywhere. However, the media here in Sweden portrays your nation as filled with good persons uniting and supporting of one another. From the bottom of my heart, I truly wish you the very best, and I will support if any opportunity appears.

It's doesn't matter if we're not mad at American citizens. We shouldn't be looking at Americans as friends anymore. This is not the first time America's tried to take Can and it won't be the last. Americans are not trust worth long term allies. They fk'd over so many countries and there gov only gives a fk about itself.

Trump appears immune to criticism as long as there are no negative consequences to his policies.

As An American whose ancestors fought in the Revolutionary War, I am infuriated by the Russian puppet in our White House, and I hope that after we rid ourselves of the vile criminal Trump, we can restore our long happy friendship with our good neighbors in Canada. Please fight for democracy and stand with Ukraine.

I wonder how long it will take before even the biggest Maga Hillbilly realizes that Trump is driving their country to the brink?

As long as your President is sucking up to Putin, you have a lot more than a tariff problem.

Trudeau was rather unpopular not long ago. But thanks to Trump, he is now absolutely adored and comes across as a phenomenal leader.

Blacks, Mexicans,Arabs,Indians,Jews,Pakistanis,Any Asians, etc etc all suffer hate racist crime by only one race. They've been doing this for centuries now. The question is how long are we going to take this and not fight back guys?

We're screwed, our leaders only see short term political gains in setting policy and not long term solutions. A long slow decline will continue, perhaps for decades.

We have maintained a high level standard of living, when by all rights we should not have it. Many want to blame government, but one part of the problem is an over reliance as an exporter of raw natural resources and a reliance on generally a single market (USA) for our goods. Interestingly enough the problems have been reinforced by governments of every type. What annoys me most is that these issues have been known for a long time, and the various governments have been scared to do anything about it. And they never took Sir Donald's words seriously - either about the tarriffs or statehood. I have heard zero from any level of government looking for new markets for our goods, yet they have had since November to do something. Going to be a stressful ride for many of us. I am recently retired and wonder if I should be worred.

As a home owner (with a mortgage) and nearing retirement, my first reaction is that I want housing prices to remain high so I can get the most from my house when I downsize. \nHowever, my house sale is so I can downsize into a home that I can buy outright with the money I get from selling my bigger current house. If my house value goes down, I would be OK as long as the price that I would pay from a smaller home also goes down. I want to live in a home that would have no mortgage. I will only get the minimum income in retirement so I need to be in a home without a mortgage payment, if at all possible.

The fact that Canada was introduced as the 51st state in this video just made me laugh. Like if we all joke about it long enough, it will come true.

Slowing down productivity seems to ruin countries productivity. How would've thought??? Aggressive investment in it can be hard to keep up with over the long term. How can countries find a balance?

If my country doesn't get housing costs under control they're in serious trouble. The average house in the town I live in is something like 900K and there's basically no local economy. With costs so high I can't afford to start a family. If we keep gaining old folks needing healthcare while keeping housing expenses high and wages low taxes will have to keep going up.\n\nI am not going to continue to pay huge portions of my income for the benefit of the elderly while I can't afford a decent lifestyle. I don't want to but it seems moving to the US or elsewhere is the only option if things continue this way. At list point the local governments are so invested in denying housing permits and abusing zoning laws to prevent housing being built that the only way to fix it would be to strip the provinces and cities of the right to decide their own zoning bylaws. \n\nI want to see a change in the constitution that makes zoning bylaws illegal. There are too many people thinking of their self interest and not of the Nations interest. We deserve to lose the right to decide what can be built in our neighborhoods. We have been abusing this right for too long

As a Canadian I would do anything to become the 51st state\n\nThe country has failed the younger generation and is by far the worst country in G7, by a LONG shot\n\n(Since i want to leave so bad: migrating to the US LEGALLY is actually kind of difficult)

As a Canadian from one of the best educational programs in the country, that produces the countries smartest engineers, and CS grads. I can say most of my friends plan to leave Canada in the long term or after Graduation.

The difference between Canada and Spain is that they don’t have a sovereign currency. With debt dominated in the Euro they couldn’t as easily print their way out of the problem. I’d be willing to bet that the government inflates the dollar away before they allow a major housing crash or long term decline. Either way we’re cooked ?

Hey: I think you’ve seen me comment a lot here because I have my opinions and I really appreciate your blog.(is that what it’s called?). Anyway, I’m gonna tell you about my cancer story.\nTwo years ago at the age of about 53-54, I realize that I hadn’t had a mammogram in a long time because I’ve moved cities so I was on the list but in another city. So I decided I need to go get a mammogram. I contacted my GP and he gave me a referral within a couple of weeks. I had my mammogram. They didn’t like it within a week. They did it again. They didn’t like it. They decided to do an ultrasound. And still, they found areas that they were not happy with. So within another week, they did two biopsies. And they came back as cancer cells that had not gotten together yet to create a tumor. So it’s called stage zero cancer. Within two weeks I was in surgery where they took out everything they needed to and I was told that I have good margins. I then had six weeks of radiation. Five days a week for six weeks.\n\nSo about nine months after that and that healing, I had a referral to a plastic surgeon. She reduced my other breast so that I was even. That was about eight months ago. And this week I had a further reduction, call it a fine-tuning, to further ensure that I was even.\n\nThis was all done in Montreal Quebec Canada. \nI paid zero dollars, except a few times I may have paid six bucks for parking. \n\nI am cancer free. I’ve gone from a double D to a B, which you know is better than dying. I am so happy that I live here.

Kudus to you for trying to report as factual as possible. Im also an immigrant (45 years ago). I have long since been assimilated and consider myself as Canadian as anyone. I don't defend or condone your arguments as many of them are spot on but what i do have to say is we as humans are grossly flawed and i don't see improvement only decline. However there is still good left in this world. I believe we should treat each other with respect and judge on an individual basis as opposed to stereotyping. I still deal with stereotyping every day of my life. The real issue is not race it is cultural or rather the unwillingness to assimilate.

Dear Canada,\nI hope you fix the employment problems and stop employers from hiring non-resident under contract for below minimum wage rather than a resident or a local before you start implementing new streams for said non-residents and new immigrants. A lot of you locals are struggling to land employment because of the fact. Employers are taking advantage of this loophole for to lower cost of employments. And it's unfair for us locals and residents. \nIt's just unfair you see, it's not right that employers prioritize non-residents just because they can lowball them and this individuals won't have any issue with or say any word since they are given employment. Employments should be fair. \nThe labor law should have more stricter rules on such things because employers are taking advantage of this very lax rule. And should have a law that supports employees too against abusive employers or employers who just don't care as long as they profit. \n\nSincerely,

it's going to work. Canada wont go to sell in EU or China it's over seas way to long and most of the times still has to go thru the US lol it's to costly for one, and EU just wont cover all the cost, forget the logistic nightmare. US is like a 2 hour drive away!! big big difference. So simple, trumps tariffs will make Canadien companies sell there product higher so they dont lose to much profits. what does that do? US wont buy! then companies shut down, people loose their jobs. very simple. Many go on welfare for a year, when they run out older one or less educated one cant find jobs etc...Trump will kill Canada plain and simple. that's it that's all. He want our resources and will do it, we are done for. this will also kill truck drivers and many many many side workers. until we are part of the US.
