I was born in NYC but moved to Canada over 20 years ago, I now have dual citizenship. In the space of 1 year my retired father had a major stroke and my wife, pregnant with our first child had a full hemorrhage, was rushed to the hospital and gave birth to our premature son who required open heart surgery at 3 months of age. The quality of the health care was top notch, it didn't matter who I was or what I earned, we promptly received the best health care I can imagine. I was maxed out emotionally; I can't imagine worrying if I could afford the monies involved, was it covered under my current health care plan everything was 'just there'. There was no waiting for our legitimate emergencies. I don't know what the math would be on costs but I'm guessing I'd be broke for the rest of my life if this occurred in the States. \nOf course, what countries could afford universal health care except, maybe: Australia, Canada, France, Germany, United Kingdom, Sweden, Spain, Switzerland. Italy, Israel, Greece and 22 other countries. Why is almost every other country paying less for drugs developed by American companies?\nYou pay slightly lower taxes... but what would your income look like if your employer paid you what they are paying for your insurance premiums?\nI'd say the richest country on earth has a little catching up to do...

I lived in the US for 30 years. I hated every year, except for having my sons there. My American husband is a staunch NRA supporter. At the 30 year mark, when I gave him an ultimatum. I gave him 30 years down there, and the time had come where he needed to do 30 years in Canada. We've been in Canada for 6 years, and he doesn't ever want to go back.\nI feel for the new mothers, who only get 6 weeks maternity leave (8 weeks for C-Section).\nCanadian Mums get a full year. Nurturing your new baby is necessary for a well-balanced child. You can't bond in 6 weeks. \nYour health insurance is nuts. We paid $1500/mo. just for our family. Then you have a $5k deductible first! Just walking into the ER is $500 and THEN add on labs, x-rays, meds, etc. My son was in mental health treatment and our insurance capped mental health at $25k for life. \nThe biggest slap up my head, was when I found out I CAN'T collect my SSI. I paid a lot of taxes, since we made 6 figures/year. So, now I'm screwed, since they won't pay a former Permanent Resident. Had I been a citizen, I could get it. My husband is a PR in Canada, waiting to take his citizenship test. If he applies for SSI, he needs to go down to the States for 30 days and nights, annually. \nI'm from Toronto, born and raised and I am so happy to have my feet back in my own country. My boys are still there, as well as my grandchildren. Thankfully, they fly up twice a year. You couldn't pay me to move back.

My son grew up in Quebec, and they have a double everything. Double taxes (not that bad after the tax deductions and credits), but they also Double the safety net and services, compared to the rest of Canada. Not only was childbirth free, so were the pre-natal courses and everything else, AND we got around 1000$/mo in childcare benefits, until he turned 18, with full of tax credits per kid. Plus, daycare was 5$/day back then, it's 7$/day almost 20 years later.. Pretty citizen friendly. \nThings MIGHT be changing though. Our conservatives are taking their talking points from the US GOP since COVID, and they are all-in to please their Oil lobby overlords and donators out in our prairies region. I'm Canadian. I was born here, raised here, and have lived here all my life. However, my parents are American (they came during the Vietnam war), and I have full dual citizenship. I could cross the border into the U.S., get a job, start working and live there for the rest of my life if I ever chose to do so.\n\nHowever, I will never live in the U.S. Why? The cost of healthcare insurance and healthcare in general is definitely a part of that, but another huge factor is the socio-political atmosphere down there that is very unappealing to me. Everything from politics, the gun issue, much higher violence than we have in Canada, more racism issues, the media, and from what I have observed from decades of visits to the U.S.: there just seems to be a lot more people that are on edge and hostile than I am used to compared to Canada as well. For me, the general culture and mindset is just not something I want to live amongst.\n\nThere are some things I enjoy in the U.S., and there ARE wonderful people there too. I have several friends in the U.S. (born and raised), not to mention my entire extended family is American. But for me, the U.S. is a nice enough place to visit, but it's not somewhere I'd ever want to live.\n\nNo matter what kind of trip I take to the U.S., whenever I get back home to Canada it's always like a deep sigh of relief. I feel safer. I feel more relaxed. I feel at home. No matter how good my trip was, when I set foot back on Canadian soil again I always get a feeling of humble gratitude that I live here. For me, other than the warmer weather and some of the sights the U.S. has to offer, I'm much, much happier in Canada. I feel very fortunate to live here.\n\nAs a side note, I have never found our public healthcare system here in Canada to be lacking whatsoever. Any healthcare I, or anyone else I know that has received any, has always been prompt, of excellent quality, and reassuringly delivered in a professional manner.\n\nAs an example, in 1994, my father had a seizure and it was discovered that he had a benign brain tumour that had to be removed. Not even a week later, he was booked for his surgery and he had his procedure. He was operated on by one of the top two neurosurgeons in North America at the time, he spent three weeks in recovery at the hospital, and he had months of rehab afterward. About 2 weeks later, he had another seizure (the last one he ever had), he stayed in another hospital for an additional two weeks.\n\nHowever, all of what I just mentioned, and I mean ALL of it, was paid for by our public healthcare system. All he had to do was show his healthcare card and sign a release form for his surgery, and that was it. Nothing more. There were literally ZERO bills, no insurance companies, no paperwork, no phone calls, and ZERO hassle. Nothing.\n\nAnd no, our family was NOT rich or privileged either. Just an average middle class family. However, my dad's neurosurgeon told us his surgery and all the months of care he received afterward would have cost $180,000 (in 1994!), and our family would have been out on the street if it wasn't for our healthcare system. My dad also had a very minor heart attack in 2007 which didn't require surgery, and he didn't have to pay a dime or do anything else other than show his healthcare card for that either. Since those two events, my father has lived a healthy, normal life thanks to our public healthcare.\n\nIn Canada, EVERYONE receives that kind of care, regardless of if they are a billionaire or they are homeless. Because that's the moral and ethical thing to do, and is just one of the many reasons why I plan on staying here.

You're a good guy, Tyler...and very brave to take on such a dicey subject as comparisons between Canada and The United States. We are two distinctly different cultures. Currently, America is more than frightening. The political system has really become a total mess. A two-party system (basically YES or NO) does not cater to the many grey areas of politics. The choice right now seems to be Fascist or Liberal. That's it! It was not like that during most of my professional life. Thanks to my job, I had a Green Card. But, I also could travel with little difficulty...especially in the South and Mid-West. Why? Well, because I had blonde hair, blue eyes and pale skin. I never got used to states where everyone was walking around with a gun. It scared the hell out of me. As a commercial film director and writer, (unique services - hence the Green Card) I worked just about everywhere in the US. The North East is the most similar to Canada. But get down south, and people were literally walking around with holsters and revolvers on their hips. I never felt completely safe. But America is also a great country full of opportunities and if you are educated and a professional, the money is also great. All Canadians love their Healthcare and Social Safety Net. Generally, I think Canadians are more socially evolved and better educated. Your educational system is awful. And the Bible Belt States are anything but Christian. It's hate and fear-based. But the past 7 years have been the worst since the Trump Cult era began. Trump and his Mega Cult could destroy what was once a wonderful country.

we lived in the USA for 14 years and actually because citizens before we moved back to Canada, and to this day, maintain dual citizenship. The health care was the biggest difference. Fighting with health care providers to get them to pay their portion of a bill was the WORST. They automatically turn down every claim the first time around so you have to get on the phone and fight with them. In the USA, you can only see doctors within your health care provider, or you have to pay full on to see someone outside it. You also have to pay to see your family doctor even if its for a annual check up. NONE of that happens in Canada. Health care in Canada is provided by the government. Health care in America is a BUSINESS, and they are all fighting for your $$. Being self employed in the USA was an eye opener, with a $1100. a month premium, so that we had a reduced annual deductible. No deductible or monthly premiums in Canada. Americans should NOT HAVE TO DECLARE BANKRUPTCY just because they get sick. Otherwise, we loved living there. Great people, awesome Mexican food (you can't get that in Canada), beautiful beaches and excellent access to them. Amazing highway systems,. At the time we lived there, housing was affordable, food and clothing were cheaper than Canada. None of that is true these days. You guys pay as much as we do for food and shelter.

I live in Canada and the truth is ,working minimum wage jobs won’t make you rich unless you work 2 or 3 full time minimum wage jobs. Without the necessary skills and education you will struggle to get professional jobs that pay better. Canadian employers value Canadian education and Canadian work experience. It’s hard to get professional jobs . without that. A visitor visa does not allow you to work in Canada. Agents will give you visitors visa and leave you to hang dry without work permit.

In urban areas, owning a car can become optional with careful planning. So, the provocative title in Hindi that coming to Canada is stupid, is a terrible conclusion. You have to consider your personal assets (education, health, skills), and your liabilities. Then you can make an educated decision, whether coming to Canada (urban, vs. rural), is good for you, or India is best for you? I'm not sue what most of you are talking about Canada being safe ?? Gang shootings and killings everyday , car jackings. There are homeless camps everywhere. All the rest stops along hwy 1 in BC are full of people living in rv's and trailers, drug use everywhere. Our health care is free because its terrible. Every hospital is badly understaffed, patients have their beds in hallways. If you want anything done quickly you have to pay and get it done privately anyways. Oh cant forget our taxes. Gotta love the made up carbon tax. I pay 52% income tax. Food and gas prices are way higher because of all our tax. And last but not least real estate and rent cost. Average detached house in the greater Vancouver area is almost 1.3 million dollars and the average rent for a 2 bedroom in Vancouver is $3900. I was born and raised here this is not the same country I grew up in and was a proud citizen of. Our country has fallen.

Canada has been ridiculously good to me and for me, even as I appreciate that this is not the average experience. I came here 36 years ago, when there were jobs looking for people, and not the other way around. Back then we had the choice to skill up some more or go in full force in careers, which worked for many of us. I can see how tough it would be for new immigrants now, especially professionals who were already established back in Africa not wanting to get re-validated in order to practice here. That is a journey best played out by new engineers, doctors and other crucial professions where they have time on their side and not feel like they are giving up much to start from scratch. Canada is great but each person has to weigh their reason for wanting to be here. If the scales tip this way, then one has to fully commit to the move to make it work. Otherwise, truly look to make that success happen wherever you are ..... Africa, Asia or Australia. It IS possible!

There are just so many misinformation and misrepresentation from this video. \n\nFor example, for how long has the person you are interviewing reside in Canada to be able to come to those conclusion? Is the person working full time? He said he is a research student so how does he know what it is to work and not enjoy your money when he is just a research student who is not earning salary? \n\nEveryone will just come to Canada and be talking down on the country. Why not go to US, UK or Australia and go find out if people are faring better there.\n\nSalary will be better in Nigeria where you are not paying taxes on most things. Having 3 cars and driver means nothing in developed countries. \nWe all have hands to drive ourselves around. \n\nWhat majority of these people that give negative comments about Canada is experiencing is called Culture Shock.
