I came to Calgary in 1983, and since then, I've seen Canada change for the better and worse. I moved back to my native country of Malaysia in 1997 and lived and worked there until 2012. I can honestly say that my native country is so much cheaper to live. I don't need to wait months to see a specialist and wait over an hour to see my family doctor despite already booking an appointment. Doctors just want to get you out of their office fast so they can see more patients. Got a second health concern, well, book another appointment. What a joke! In Malaysia, I can get full body check-ups, including x-ray, ECG, and blood work, including results the same day. What's the use of free health care if the service takes donkey months? I've decided to move back to Malaysia in about two year's time and enjoy the warm weather and cheaper cost of living. Canada is a GREAT country, but the elected government just screwed things up. Will miss the Calgary Stampede for sure.

Germany created their own problem in their flawed, points-based model of their government pension system. It is like we are paying backwards, where our money earned right now is taken away from us to pay for the pensions of retired people who earned those rights to a government pension years or decades ago during their working lives. We are then given points, with the hope that the next generations one day pay for our own pensions. See the problem?\n\nInstead, people’s hard earned monthly payments towards pension could have instead have been invested for them into actively-managed portfolios of bonds, equities and commodities. Thereby, each and every person currently on pension could have enjoyed the benefits of decades of compounding growth!\n\nNow we are here, as the video says, 2 workers are needed to cover the pension of 1 retired person. This is absolutely absurd and they will never be able to attract 400,000 new skilled workers every year with the current issues highlighted in this video.\n\nMy best advice - when you are working in Germany, seriously think about it to save and invest a portion of your net income and prepare yourself for a future where you cannot solely rely on your German pension!

I hate to say it but if it's Germany that needs the $400,000 workers then they need to be a little more friendly and they need to be a little more open to foreign languages. I do not think it's the only way around. If it's Germany that needs the mass immigration then beggars cannot be choosers

Many of my friends who studied Masters here in Germany are struggling to find a job and yet they say we need skilled workers. Where are the jobs.\nFor language issue why can't you work with companies and give conditional offer to employees that in 2-3 years you have to be fluent in German and give them an opportunity to learn the language and integrate.\nBut did we see this no and yet they say we want workers..Yes you will get people obviously the world is big but not the quality one and in some time your situation will become like of France and UK.\n\nAnd though I have finished my Master and working in a company for very less salary still i regret my decision to come here leaving my well paid job in my home country was the worst mistake. \nBut now i have to find a way out from here

Fo indian students waching this ..dont get fooled..they say they need workers but in reality there are no jobs here . Especially in IT . Dont spoil your life .i dont know why western countries making up these numbers repeatedly reality there are less jobs and more people. Same with USA as well from past 2 years.

Racisms is a big issue, apart from wages , language, & loss of direction; companies need workers, politicians say otherwise, immigrant wait till government takes a stand, but any way I am skilled worker, I don't want to get abused by right wings and racists. So good luck.

Everyone says Germany needs IT staff but I'm a computer programmer with 25 years experience, and I haven't found a job in the last year and a half.\n\nAs for the language I've gotten dyslexia and I've always had problems learning languages, I've been trying to learn German for several years and I'm still awful.\n\nAs for Government offices you always have to speak German when you register where you live, or when you sign on une0loyed, or anything, you always have to speak German in a government office.\n\nCompared to the UK where you are not allowed to discrinimate against someone who doesn't speak English. Every government office outsouces translation services to companies who translate 200 languages into English. So where you're adopting children, or signing on unemployed whatever interation you have with a government worker you can do it in one of 200 languages. These outsourced translation services are basically a telephone call centre with translators on hand to help.\n\nIn the UK most forms are written in multiple languages. The form for unemployment is written in about 40 languages, if you don't speak one of those it'snot a ptoblem the outsouced tranlation services can help you fill in the form.\n\nIn Germany you have to speak German.

I am a designer and artist who moved to Saxony to reunify with family. I can say, being here for 3 years, it is VERY difficult to find a job in your profession when you do not speak the language. I am not a blue card holder, but my partner is. Despite our financial situation not being a dire one, I still look forward to integrating well in the job market and contributing my expertise + passion in the local society. \n\nI spent around 1.5 year reaching B1 level German (+including the waiting time for german tests, orientation course test and test scores etc.) Even with this B1 knowledge, you cannot communicate in a professional setting, more is needed. I also spent another half year time contacting our local Agency for Work, and experienced discrimination from their consultation service, a long waiting time and no assistance at the end. \n\nIt has been quite a discouraging journey, especially for someone who has high motivation to work and contribute. My current options are looking for jobs in Berlin, English speaker environments like Burger King etc. In my personal case, it has largely affected my confidence and enthusiasm for living in this country.

This is crazy. I work with many Indian people and i can honestly say the majority are respectful, courteous, educated and very friendly. They're absolutely no threat to anyone. People need to look past their bias and actually observe their actions before judging them. This guy mocking his accent is a real p.o.s.

Tims hires immigrants because the typical “Canadian” minimum wage worker doesn’t show up to shifts, are late frequently, or have poor work ethics. Immigrants are reliable because they don’t have a plan b or anyone to fall back on if they don’t have money coming in.

40 to 50 hours a week? I work that in Australia as an Australian. Indian universities aren't necessarily recognised overseas. Even then I've worked with many as engineers and got uber rides from many just as an example. Different cultural system. This is just my personal experience. \n\nYou have to remember that India has been studied as on of the most intolerant countries in the world. I've never got that impression from the majority of other nationalities I've worked with. I was going to say the immigrant only thing is one thing on TOP of the INSANE pricing... you gotta be a girl working and can't have ANY vice or plan on having ANY kind of life or freedom even though you pay to live there, even working a full time job you will be struggling and majority of these lower rent places were great and usually always been for students no matter what your sex or where you are from to which if you are getting government money to attend school you can only work a certain amount of hours with that funding for school being BARELY enough to get by and forget about it if you have disability you get slightly more but NO landlord wants you if you have disability.... This journalist seems to forget that immigration is not a right but a privilege. Why politicians say we need more immigrants. When there are far more people already in big cities like Toronto and Vancouver. I would say enough is enough just limit any new immigrants to big cities and send to other parts of Canada.

Listen I feel for migrants and refugees, but it’s also not the job of other countries to take them on. Most countries are already struggling to provide for their own people. This is why I understand why leaders like Trump say he wants to send back illegal immigrants. So much resources have to provided to refugees and migrants. It’s important for people to also push back and reform their own countries. If they are seeking refuge due to circumstances beyond any control, then it’s somewhat understandable…however, many factors need to be considered before taking them on. I am an Indian and every day I see ads from Canadian universities promising me work visas and top quality education. I also get calls from agents time to time saying my alma matter is more than enough to land me a job there and they just need a certain amount of money to send me to canada with work permit without any college enrollment.

I mean, show the numbers and ratio of people we've been letting in in the past few years to anyone and they'd say we're insane. We live in a time where someone saying we need to go back to reasonable numbers is a brave and bold statement when it should be the norm for any country.

I have been (mostly) a life long Liberal living in Toronto. I can honestly say, the Trudeau Liberal government has been the worst government at any level I have lived under - including Mike Harris and Bob Rae. Justin Trudeau likes to cut ribbons and make big announcements and spend time on the completely wrong priorities for Canadians. We need a government focused on the economy and the things it takes to build a thriving 21st century economy. Yes, it takes immigrants and those people will need the basics: a job, food, shelter and services. Instead we get dental care, pharm care, daycare - all these things we can't afford and that do very little to build out a thriving economy we need. We have lost decades due to poor planning of our governments and now we all must suffer. It will take generation to fix this, meanwhile our competing countries will all pass us. I will rue Justin Trudeau and his incompetent Ministers and enablers for the rest of my life.

As a Filipino watching the economy of USA from afar, I think that no other politician has shown significant concern to help its economy except for Trump. He's pretty bold and not scared to voice out issues that make the democrats uncomfortable. It is not for me to decide who others will vote. However, I see a leader in Trump and he's not afraid to fight back. It's only a matter of time for the Chinese to create its own microchips that are of novelty and prestige. Their economy is of course stagnant as of the moment because many foreign companies pulled out from China. Nevertheless, do you think it's going to be forever? They will cope and soon establish theirs given their population and government financial backing. Trump was right to put trade war against them to regulate foreign trade as it did with Japan. All countries will suffer when the dollar loses the international prestige. It is fastly losing it's international reputation as of these days. If this won't halt, imagine a future where the Chinese RMB will be the basis of international trade. You don't know the real plan of the Silk Road guys. Americans are conquerors and we have adjusted with their ways already. And, the Chinese are conquerors as well. Their goal is to really surpass the USA. The rise of China has benefited every ASEAN member, but greatly the former than the latter. We can adjust with their ways. However, America and Europe may not be that ready to adjust their ways for them should they surpass USA. The USA has become complacent and too liberal where individual rights, although important, have gone too far-fetched. This has created entitled individuals who think they own the world. Now, look at the Chinese. While most young Americans are busy dancing in TikTok and the likes of wasting time for entertainment, most young Chinese are studying hard and upskilling. Let's remember that America became great because of its inventions and extremely the nuclear power. Without great minds, minds that are feebled by drugs and misguided philosophies, a society will crumble. USA can use its weapons and influences against other countries, but can it hold the progress of it's rival economy for the rest of the years? You guys need a leader who is competitive and won't back down from a fight. As of these days, given only two political candidates to choose for presidency, I dare say that Trump has a higher bidding for the goodness of USA. Of course he wasn't able to accomplish his plan before after you guys impeached him. How the hell can a leader complete its plan after being halted unprecedentedly amid his administration? Kamala Harris looks promising but not convincing. Aura, although unquantifiable, do speak something. Choose your leader and it will choose your fate. Let's hear what the two sides will share this upcoming debate. If I'm American, whoever wins that debate, wins my heart. As easy as that. You see, if someone can be defeated so easily in his or her country through debate, do you think that whoever that someone who wins will be able to compete globally? Manning the border is an easy problem to fix, we spent 800 billion on the military last year and each alphabet agency’s budget ranges from 1-15 billion. Needless to say there should be no shortage of resources and manpower in the executive arm of the government. Now many of them may not be excited about pay-cuts while being forced to field work and eternal guard duty for the rest of their careers but that’s something they need to reconcile with themselves as it was always a known possibility of happening to anyone living in a country with stressed borders.

Many years ago, I was an international student in Canada. I got rejected by US for a visitor visa to attend a scientific conference in US which I needed to present my paper. Instead, only my supervisor could go to the conference. What can I say?!
