I have no problem with skin color or race. I do have a problem when I go to the doctor's office and cannot understand half of what the doctor is saying to me. I do have a problem when I call for technical service and cannot understand half of what the technician is saying. This is frustrating. If people with another first language want to work for American companies where communication is a big part of the job, I only wish they would speak more fluently. I had this very situation this morning. Called for service, could not understand through heavy accent. He was getting very frustrated with me. If I went to another country it would be up to me to learn to speak that language. I dealt with this in the hospital...and in this setting it can be critical. I spoke to the Chief of Residency because of a potentially harmful situation and was told the residents all meet their requirements for English. well, whoopdido...that did not help either of us when a patient was going south.

Canadians are bilingual. Americans barely speak one language

In my experience, what I've seen: anglophone Canada and Canadians are pretty much the same as the rest of the US. Francophone Canada: that's something different. People speak another language, they have a very different culture and they're more conscious about other countries and cultures.

If you are coming to America you 100% should take every effort to speak the language and conform to our culture just as it is in every other country. I thought it was bad that a year later in Canada, he still isn't speaking English whatsoever, but interviewed in his native tongue. Then I see that he was in the US for 15 freaking years, and didn't bother there either. I see he and his family has no intention of assimilating. How long before we have a little El Salvador, w/ all the crime they supposedly left. People that won't assimilate to us inevitably bring all their country's crap and woes w/ them. Also, this man who can't be bothered to speak our language is getting work in Alberta. Where native Albertans who do speak English are hard pressed for work. Racism is bad because you can't choose your race. If you speak your native language in the country you immigrated to or wear your native country's traditional clothing that is definitely your choice. If you don't assimilate, you're just a leech taking advantage of the economy of a successful country.

As a Mexican American I have faced all types of racism from people of different races, including my own. I lived in Mexico for a while when I was young and would get bullied by kids who knew I was born in the U.S. Teachers also treated me different; some treated me worse than they treated the other kids, and others favored me because I was American. When I moved to Philadelphia I attended a school that was predominantly black and asian. I was the only hispanic in my class. At the time Spanish was my main language and my English was “rusty,” which led to constant bullying from classmates. They would call me “dookie face,” tell me to “go back to my country,” and even had some girls put gum on my hair. I would cry every day. I later on moved to Chicago to an area that was mostly hispanic, and that didn’t stop the bullying, either. After I finally refined my English, I no longer wanted to speak Spanish unless it was to my parents. Yes, I guess the constant bullying pushed me to feel like I had to separate myself from my hispanic heritage. When my hispanic classmates spoke to me in Spanish I only responded in English, which would make them mad and they would think that I thought I was “better than them.” Anyway, that was long ago and now as an adult I can reflect on these things so that I don’t make the same mistakes. I get along with everyone and the only thing that changes how I feel about someone is their character, not their appearance.

His problem is he doesn’t speak the language. This is the biggest issue with imitation. If they can’t speak the language they need not apply. I’m almost at my end seeing almost everything in stores printed in Spanish. So wtf where’s the Chinese, French, Russian, and all the other Languages printed on everything in the stores? HMM is it because they were smart enough to learn the language before they came here?

Not enough resources to go after illegals?. What ticks me off is these folks can't speak the language and probably are unskilled. Yet I took in a student from Brazil, who spoke English and was very intelligent, he would have added to Canada not lived off welfare and yet the government wouldn't allow him to stay even though my husband and I wanted to sponsor him. If you want to be accepted in another country, first think you do is learn to speak their language. You can't expect a country to change their language to suit you. The Mexican illegals that used to work where I did had been here for over 15 years and still didn't speak the language, and made no effort to learn. On top of that, they couldn't read Spanish either. After mixing bleach with other cleaners and sending some of our customers to the hospital from the poisonous fumes, that was the end of them working for us.

I used to live in Brampton and this is the city where I first landed. No hatred for the city but people have ruined it. I'm a brown guy myself so I can't be racist against my own people and tbh, some of the best people I know in Canada are Sikhs but even they accept the fact that there is a large number of bad apples in their community. Sikhs have played a major part in both positive and negative way, to make and break this city.\n\nInsurance scams in Brampton cost their citizens to pay one of the highest premiums in the country. Generally, drivers in Brampton have no fuckin' idea how to drive because the licences were literally bought. \n\nA large number of people of our brown community always hell bent on abusing the system, wherever they go. We bring the same back home mindset here in Canada rather follow the system. \n\nThe only thing mostly brown community is focused on is how to make money and that's all. Don't try to learn the language, don't like to mix with people, don't care about the laws or anything. They only like to have nice big houses, show off their leased fancy cars and that's all.\n\nI left this city for good and don't regret my decision at all when I see numerous videos about the bad situation in Brampton. I'd love to move back to Ontario but cannot live in this city anymore. What does that say about the current situation? Asian Canadians tend to assimilate much better than other groups and it took a group of them a long time to do partially do so. When I lived in UK I was speaking with my brother in my own language and in the bus I was told by some old men to speak in english and he was looking at us all the time like I was a criminal and I am European.Why nobody protect my rights?.

But for me ain't you suppose to put at-least some effort into speaking the language you plan on living on? I mean if you've lived in the US for 15 years, even with little effort there will be a huge progress.

Go to a country that predominantly speaks your language. Or learn the language of the country you want to live in. Lazy.
