Like I don’t understand how long are we looking at before this country fails! The cost of living and housing is mind-boggling!!! I moved here. It’s been three years. It’s been all struggles and trying to catch up and then prices rise again…i’m literally tied to work just like majority of the immigrants and majority of the middle class Canada…it’s the best country to live in if you’ve never ending amount of money…like can you imagine that you get one life and majority of it’s spent on work…wouldn’t it be amazing to have a normal job and get paid good and have reasonable time off and go to bed without worrying about finances? In my opinion, a country where teachers, nurses, and people running this country can’t find a house or live happily, that country is bound to fail…i’m planning to move to USA…i can’t do this anymore

I love how you said that the schools in Newfoundland and Labrador are good… the teachers are okay, but there are a LOT of drugs and shit passed around in schools around here. It’s honestly awful. But the picturesque part is true, along with the shitty weather. And downtown St John’s is pretty nice, although it’s filled with skeets (basically people that act like gangsters, that smoke weed, vape, etc etc. It’s only really bad on the west end of St John’s and Mount Pearl though, so you should be fine if you avoid those parts). As much shit as I may have talked here, I still love living here, and it’s certainly better than Manitoba\n\nPS: we newfies have a really wacky accent, that can be kind of hard to understand especially if we’re talking fast. Imagine Scottish, British and a Boston accent mashed together, but people speak 50x faster. So that may take awhile to get used to

I know Canada is not perfect and I find you’re a bit hard on the red maple leaf... just because you don’t find the same things as your native country. It’s like\nfrench people coming from France, going to Quebec province an complaining about the food, the weather etc... well we’re not France, sorry to say! But I can\ntry to understand your situation; it’s probably inevitable that the comparison between your country and Canada would show up eventually. I see regularly \nimmigrants moving here and it’s true that it’s not easy. (Some people will have to be cab drivers because they can’t find work in their field). But you have\nopportunities if you work hard. I have the example of a Russian truck driver who move here with his family (wife, two kids). The man started by working for\na general transport company, then was able to buy his own truck. Now he’s able to work with whoever he wants. So I think every experience is different.\nOne other thing I noticed is that for families coming here it will always be easier for kids (even teens) to adapt quicker then their parents. I live in the east\n(the maritimes) and there is not very large cities. Some immigrants that come here will stay for a while but then they would move to a larger city (like\nToronto) because that city must have the most ethnic diversity in Canada. For cultural differences true that Canadians are like Americans in the «none»\nfashion trending. It’s a different mentality then Europe because over there fashion is a statement; you are judge on your appearance. Here, not as much.\nIt shows you don’t like winter and if you don’t your not a real Canadian! :-) Don’t generalize, a lot of people here like winter. And for taxes I don’t have a clear\nexplanation other then we have a huge empty country that needs roads, infrastructures, etc. and someone has to pay for it! (fun fact, all the population\nof Canada could fit in a country like Poland... it shows how empty it is here). Finally, and I heard this many times, maybe the people or the part of the\ngovernment to blame is Immigration Canada. Maybe they give to much of an idealistic image of Canada! Nice summary of the main challenges. Reading some of these comments leads me to believe that if one is motivated solely by money, Canada is not a great choice for you as an immigrant. The number of commenters hoping to move to the US from Canada due to greater opportunities to make money while ignoring the real and substantial disadvantages of living south of the borders just emphasizes this. My family are immigrants from the US and we didn’t face the same challenges as immigrants from countries further afield but I do understand the differences between the two countries very well and can state unequivocally that moving to Canada was the best decision our family made. Lower crime, better health care (yes even with the wait times), a fairer system and a “boring” but sane political system more than compensate for the few extra dollars I would make south of the border. In terms of where better prospects going forward for children and grandchildren, with the looming threat of climate change, Canada wins hands down. Extra income means little if you have to spend all of it on personal security and health care deductibles. So if you are only motivated by top line items like gross annual salary, Canada might not be for you and you would be better off looking elsewhere and leaving that immigration spot open to someone who can appreciate the more balanced offering that a new life and future in Canada can offer.

Amazing explanations! Some travel agencies sell the idea about how wonderful Canada is and they make sense people can go to Canada, get a job, and get a lot of money. And everything is wonderful as a fairy tale! That's an illusion. Of course, Canada is an amazing country, but in each country, we need to understand the language, society, and culture. A major of people are not prepared to study these conditions. When I tell around a society that involves understanding the Canadian economy, how to prepare professionally you are, the climate and conditions to live there (in Canada). The people need to try do not to fall into the conversation of exchange courses and travel agencies that sell illusions, especially of agencies that work on Youtube to sell their travel packages.

Hello, I am an Armenian and I am very much interested to live in Canada. I don't have expectation yet cause personally I am not familiar with the life there. I have been in India for a long time. I understand that working for a company, restaurant or a hotel is tough, especially finding one. \n1)What about if an immigrant has a kind of business skill or experience say in a fast food sector and has all that it takes to run a small fast food shop, which i think is better and more lucrative than trying to find a job elsewhere. A compelling documentary, thank you. Why is it that black people continue to be so demonised and de-humanised? It is such a shame that follow Asians and even American Natives play such a role in perpetuating racism against African descent people, but I guess they have their issues of identity. Real shame nonetheless, but one thing at the time, we still have a bigger hurdle to overcome.\n \nOf course, it is still not easy to be a black woman, man or child today. Sadly our mothers are still crying for their children being killed or overly punished by the police institution, our kids are still targeted if not simply despised for being beautiful, bright, talented, lively and brilliant beings with deeper skin tonalities, and hair that speaks for us otherwise. It is still dangerous because there is so much hatred across the world against us as we are coming to understand. And hatred is unpredictable. Truth is humans are prone to discrimination even for small things:\neven for fruit loops or M&M that have no difference in taste but just in color your brain will find a way to prefer a color to another;\nit's easy to live in this complex world if what looks similar to you is good and other is BAD so you don't have to try to comprehend complex things you can't understand.

From overwhelming amounts of bad experience: Generational abuse, damages, corruption, delusion, speaking and acting with certainty, even indisputable while other possibilities exist - creating more and more conflict and damages and time being wasted, is life in Canada. The Canadians who have taken power and control over and upon others and childrens lives, have sabotaged so many lives, have corrupted reasonableness, logic, and needed care. Many Canadian children have been and are still being tortured, trafficked, profited on, and poisoned. Victims are now disabled, expected to heal themselves often while still feeling tortured, and are largely left to continue to suffer while the majority basically looks the other way, works to party, play, go on vacations and such, and basically refuses to understand what went wrong, where it went wrong, and where it's going wrong, in childhood. This's why I think most don't get it and why Canada doesn't have smart people, and why people ask why from others instead of figuring it out or should already know the answer if so-called adults were competent and actually helpful. The ugly truth is that Canadians don't know how to raise children all that well - day after day, year after year, generation after generation. Emotional and physical damages are often permanent; one a child or a person is poison and traumatise, there's no coming back. Canada at large is still one of the worst human violators on this planet and there is really no end in sight for child abuse because it's not Canada's top priority.

I hate my POS country, govornment that couldn't care less about their population, only votes... They promise shit and never fallow through. I'm so done....\nCanada seems like a beautiful country, with similar climate to my own country and from what I understand the norms are also similar. Canada has been getting rich off all the Chinese immigrants for year's. Starting with Expo and the man that everyone loves Jim Pattison. Do your research. The growing Chinese population is rising and molding Canada to be a new version of China. The problem is that it's happening everywhere and the new problem is that it's become easier to play and flash the overused racist/discriminative card. If the government does not act now and recognize their manifestation of this major problem that is shifting Canada's true values and this will grow out of hand and it will be to late. Many Canadian's are already feeling the rage and soon someone's rage will explode causing a ripple. There has to be a conversation and although it appears it would be a late of a game play it still needs to be addressed and stop sweeping under rug. Canada is known for it's non confrontational image but someone will shake it up and it might be to late by then for the government to step in and of course not be accountable. They get a lot of money each year from the demographics and don't want to do much about the growing explosive problem. Housing is a key problem and the Chinese population has gravely diminished Canadian born lives and their families. Yes understandably their are many born Chinese immigrants but we are discussing the new blood with deceptive intentions.

Can we stop saying ‘undocumented?’ This is a man who in two separate occasions walked into a country illegally. I understand the plight, wanting to leave somewhere to give you and your family a better life. However, at what point do we sit here and realize that we need to either follow the process or improve the current process because we cannot have undocumented individuals living across North America.

To me, it looks like Vice is really trying to pull the emotional card to get people to sympathize with this man because he really is in a rough situation. But, he is in a situation of his own making. It sounds like he had not done any prior research about Canada before deciding to claim refugess status. Yes, Trudeau was not giving the full truth when he made those public announcements to the media. Yes, people (educated or not) can be swayed by words of leaders they respect. But, to think you can just enter another country and claim refugee status without understanding what that actually entails is very naive. Canada has very transparent laws that are easily accessable in a multitude of different languages. The provinces also have legal assistance for those who can not afford lawyers. So, the fact that this man was able to spent $15,000 when he is being portrayed as a low income earner makes me question his income, or if he was even aware that he could apply for legal assistance. And since he has a lawyer who has been working his case, I would like to assume that the lawyer would have said something about assistance.\n\nI really want to be sympathetic for this man and his family, because security uncertainty makes life extra hard. But, as I have had to live in more than one country due to the Canadian immigration system refusing my husband due to a very old DUI (which has set our life on a completely different plan than anticipated), I have a very hard time being sympathetic when I feel as though they did not reach out to educated themselves on the laws of another country. I am a Canadian who currently can't live in Canada with my husband of 3 years and I still don't hate my country. I respect the hell out of it (this is not to get into our historic treatment of BIPOC, which deserves it's own seperate time and is a bloody stain on our land's history.)

I don't really understand one of experiences during my visit in Canada, I am a HongKonger and one time when I was visiting Toronto, some people with different ethnic background made a comment on my English, they said my English was good. But the fact that there are tons of Chinese/Hong Kong looking people living Toronto who speak perfect English or better than me. I really don't get this, those people who made comment are Indian, Russian, even Canadian born Chinese, they didn't even know I was just a visitor. I don't know much about the standard/definition of racism in Canada, is this incidence considered some kind of racism/stereotype? I am humbly asking for your perspectives on this.

Stop saying that Muslims need to go back to their Muslim countries, GREAT IDEA but first leave their countries alone first, stop causing wars, financial crisis and other issues in their countries and all of them will happily go back to their so called sharia law countries and guess what????? we will have a major problems in running many different systems in our amazing democratic countries such as the medical industry, just a fun fact..... most of our physicians and pharmacists are actually Muslims also they are the core to so many sectors in N-America and Europe...... The world still do not understand how cunning and shrewd muslims are. They will use your laws to takeover you and then implement their laws to deny you any rights. Govts will not help you, don't wait for world leaders to act, they can't. As individuals we need to stop respecting a community which is filled with hate towards others. Psychology student here. In the interest of accurate information, I would like to point out some flaws I find with some of the studies in this documentary and question the conclusions reached. I understand that CBC Marketplace are not personality psychologists and therefore cannot be expected to produce the same quality of work as a scientist. However, I think it is worthwhile to think critically about the information in the media that we consume. I am also open to anyone who wants to engage in debating the contents of this documentary.\n\n\nThe following are some notes I took while watching the documentary outlining the individual hypotheses of the studies I think are flawed and descriptions of their respective accompanying errors. \n\n\nThere are three possible research questions, and thereby dependent variables, being answered by the apartment hunting studies.\n1. If there is no discrimination between the white man and the first-nations man, then they should get equal treatment, including quotes and availability, when apartment hunting. \na. Could the gender of the landlord be a confounding variable (perhaps men are more discriminatory than women)? \n \n2. If there is no discrimination between the white man and the first-nations man between Toronto, Montreal, Regina, and Victoria, then they should get equal treatment, including quotes and availability, when apartment hunting. \na. Could total apartments visited be a confounding variable? (4 in Toronto, 3 in Montreal, Regina, and Victoria) \nb. Could the gender of the landlord be a confounding variable (perhaps men are more discriminatory than women)? \nc. They only showed the black man apartment hunting in some of the trials. I am considering him out of the study for consistency purposes. The first-nations man is the only one who got unfair treatment in the footage of apartment hunting. \n \n3. Possible hypothesis: If male landlords/agents are more discriminatory than female landlords/agents, then the white man and the first-nations man will get different treatment at different Canadian apartments in equally diverse cities. \na. Don’t know all the information about the genders of the landlords/agents, not all the footage is shown, but the ones where they get ripped off are male. The others shown are female. The remaining interactions are not shown.\n\n\nThere are also some factors that may have influenced the racial bias survey and, in my estimation, rendered it scientifically unreliable.\n\n\n1. The bias survey and accompanying tests at the CBC attributed the differences between the studies to unconscious racism. What if it was just due to familiarity with certain racial groups over others? \na. The black participants had no bias between European-American and African Americans, supposedly indicating no racism, while the white and first-nations participants did, supposedly indicating racism. Is it possible that another interpretation of this result is that bias is a function of familiarity: that we are comfortable with the majority demographic in the geographical location we live in, as well as our own kind. Therefore, the black guys are less biased against black people due to being both black and living in a white majority demographic? \nb. The participants took the survey knowing the objectives of the researchers was to study racial discrimination. They might have influenced the answers they gave \nc. Whether the participants agreed with identity politics or not was a confounding factor that was not controlled . You can only be racially unbiased biased if you think that racial identity is a means of accurately viewing the world. People who do not believe in the existence of identity politics may answer the questions quite differently, which could be a different reason for the results.\nd. I took the study myself. The words that participants were required to match were a mix of adjectives and nouns. It is known within psychology that nouns have higher levels of imagery. This was not properly controlled and therefore is another confounding variable. \n \nAll the other studies looked fine to me. I welcome any discussion on my observations.

Living in Canada for almost 3 decades, feel pretty safe & understand ppl in the street. But this few yrs, crime rate jump so much & I do not understand many ppl on the street. They not speak English. The hypothesis to be tested: Can people taken from the jungles of Africa and forced into slavery be fully integrated as citizens in a majority white population?\n\nThe whites were descendants of Europeans who had created a majestic civilization. The former slaves had been tribal peoples with no written language and virtually no intellectual achievements.\n\nActing on a policy that was not fair to either group, the government released newly freed African people into a white society that saw them as inferiors. America has struggled with racial discord ever since.\n\nDecade after decade the problems persisted but the experimenters never gave up. They insisted that if they could find the right formula the experiment would work, and concocted program after program to get the result they wanted.\n\nThey created the Freedman’s Bureau, passed civil rights laws, tried to build the Great Society, declared War on Poverty, ordered race preferences, built housing projects, and tried midnight basketball.\n\nTheir new laws intruded into people’s lives in ways that would have been otherwise unthinkable. They called in National Guard troops to enforce school integration. They outlawed freedom of association. Over the protests of parents, they put white children on buses and sent them to African schools and vice versa.\n\nThey tried with money, special programs, relaxed standards, and endless hand-wringing to close the “achievement gap.” To keep white backlash in check they began punishing public and even private statements on race.\n\nThey hung up Orwellian public banners that commanded whites to “Celebrate Diversity!” and “Say No To Racism.”\n\nNothing was off limits if it might salvage the experiment.\nSome thought that the Talented Tenth would lead the way for African people. A group of elite, educated Africans would knock down doors of opportunity and show the world what Africans were capable of. There is a Talented Tenth. They are the African Americans who have become entrepreneurs, lawyers, doctors and scientists. But ten percent is not enough. For the experiment to work, the ten percent has to be followed by a critical mass of people who can hold middle-class jobs and promote social stability. That is what is missing.\n\nThrough the years, too many African people continue to show an inability to function and prosper in a culture unsuited to them.\n\nDetroit is bankrupt, the south side of Chicago is a war zone, and majority-black cities all over America are beset by degeneracy and violence. And Africans rarely take responsibility for their failures. Instead, they lash out in anger and resentment. Across the generations and across the country, as we have seen in Detroit, Watts, Newark, Los Angeles, Cincinnati, and now Ferguson, rioting and looting are just one racial incident away.\n\nThe white elite would tell us that this doesn’t mean the experiment has failed. We just have to try harder. We need more money, more time, more understanding, more programs, more opportunities. Why do people want Canadian citizenship without living there? Still don’t understand that part

It be better if the face was not covered. Its creates undo fear. It creates security issues. It creates issues with ID. We live in a time of hyper sensitivity to any reference to men and women being different. Islam doesn't bend to social trends, and this upsets people. I just wish feminist and politians would let women choose for themselves. I wish people who passionately oppose Islam would equally try to understand Islam.

This video didn't do a good job of explaining to me why they want legal status in a country they have no interest in living in. Maybe I just don't have enough money to understand the motivations of the really rich people... does that help them in their business or something?

As a Muslim That has read the Quran 2 things my mom explained to me that Muslim women are truly held to a higher standard than men and that the hijab is a choice. I really don't know why people continue leaving their own countries. I am from México and I live quite well, Ive been in NY, Disneyland, San Diego etc, and many places around México beaches and all. I have job.offers I really dont understand why they go somewhere they are not appriciated :/

Dear video maker , it's nothing new in your life in Canada. Even people around the world including local people and local students are doing same . And it's nothing new to travel 2 or 3 hours in bus . People who stays in USA from ages are travelling same in car . Every students are expecting same life with them who are living in foreign from ages . Those people might had struggled more . Student has to understand before going on Student visa that with situations rather than keeping intrest in how to make money. 99 % students are interested in only money from day one .But foreign governments think that you have shown your financial documents, are enough for you to survive there even if you have no Job . And it's depends on the country, in which country you have gone and what is your qualification. If students go to UK or USA , thay might make little more money comparing to Canada, Australia or New Zealand. All students should understand before going to any country that only in USA AND UK country are the best to earn money and getting out money from there to india. Otherwise except these two countries none country is there in the world that you can make money there and send maximum money to india. Except these two countries other countries have made situation that whatever you earn there , you will have to spend in that country only. You can't save money to india for living good life in India. And it is good and thankful those countries where person after 18 years has go for job rather than being dependent on parents. And working in bakery with standing whole hours during job is not a new in those English country. They don't force to do that by law . This job is kind of that. Person has to understand job profile before joining the job . By English country law before you start job they will call you for induction and will explain what job you have to do . Life person is happy for that job , he / she can join the job . I think specially students has to look into positive things which in India students are not doing and thay have to do there in foreign countries. It is difficult to see these migrants as law breakers when you see a video like this; especially the little girl at the end. We forget that these are people like you and me; human beings with feelings. We can't identify with them because we've never had our freedom and safety tested. We've never had to flee our homeland to save our lives. It is difficult to understand but I am willing to try.
