you need a certain amount of money to live on for 2 years plus job prospect plus no criminal record a good edjucation to come here legally so Canadians that pay super high taxes do not need to worry about taking care of people that think they can just come here and exspect its people.to support them and there families .You cant get welfare for 2 years either.We need to keep Canada a.smart and wealthy country .Yes we can help some in very bad situations but we are.only as strong as our weakest people . So if he has been told that he is being deported, so he moves his family to Vancouver to hide them. This brings his case to the bottom of the line. He stayed in Edmonton & continues to work there underground not paying any taxes, while his family takes advantage of Canadian benefits hospitals, schools & welfare. It's a lie that refugees give back more than they take. Stats for 2011 show that immigrants take, on average, about $6K a year more than they pay in tax. The government mantra that immigrants pay Canadians social security checks after they have been here a while is bogus propaganda. Canadians may want to take people in knowing they will be a burden to taxpayers and that's one thing, we do have big hearts, but the truth should be told to the taxpayers who end up paying for it. Don't you think?

It's not perfect but I rather these people have a place to stay while they are processed then locked in cages. I rather get more tax payers in the long run. Most immigrants and refugees pay more tax and work harder then Canadian born citizens.

we have 70 seniors who died this month from neglect being left in apartments on their own with no AC during the heat wave but people who just illegally cross borders deserve better than our seniors who have spent their lives paying taxes and helped grow our country. It is the Canadian government that makes Canada sound like we are welcoming to all immigrants. That is not the stance of many citizens that own the government. It's like going to work and your boss paying you to tell him or her how to run their business. Canada is a pretend democracy that has governments who work toward their own agendas. They are a globalist bunch that spend your tax money on everything accept real Canadians.

I don't pay tax. I live here. and I am citizen of Canada. I never said I am Canadian. I always said proud to be foreigner. This land belong to INDIAN others all is foreigner.

I am senior, I have figured out a way to stop paying income tax, so I don't care what they spend your tax dollars on, Canadians are a bunch of fools!! And you voted for Trudope, serves you right!!

I feel bad for them but as a Canadian, do I want them to become Canadian (prob will not pay income tax cause they won’t make a lot of money, being near poverty line)(and will require lots of help from the government)? Or someone from a rich country that goes through investment method to gain PR card (injecting 100-200k into local companies in cash for pr card)(they will most likely buy expensive stuff from our local economy). There are many problems with anti-immigrant rhetoric and one of them is the classification who is and who isn't an immigrant and the question of when does a person stop becoming an immigrant and become a Canadian? A significant portion of people living in Canada are first/second/third generation Canadians and so, how do we classify these people, are they immigrants or are they not? And what of their parents/grandparents who immigrated, are they? It's very important to note that without their ancestor parents, all these first/second/third gen Canadians will not be here and they are now 'Canadians' today because we had pro-immigration laws. Also, the idea of accessing services is by itself, very problematic. I spent the first 4 years of my life here paying high tuition fees as well as tax that are used to subsidize fellow Canadians' tuition fees yet I'm not able to access any government services. Following graduation, I worked as a worker on visa where my tax was no less than an average Canadian yet government services were very much inaccessible to me. It was only after I became permanent resident, that somehow everything suddenly became available to me. I have been tax paying 6-7 years before I became a PR here yet all those years, I wasn't able to access a single thing yet somehow, after I became PR, I'm eligible for everything? The tax argument doesn't make sense at all. I will be eligible to apply for citizenship in like a year and does that mean now I am one of you, Canadians?

Facts much? Canada allows anyone to live in Canada for a year on the tax payers dime as long as they submit a refugee claim. The Canadian public is paying upwards of $60,000 CAD for each of these claimants living costs which is more than what many Canadians make in a year. Additionally if these claimants' claims are refused they simply leave for a day, come back and start the process all over again, again getting to live in Canada for a year on the tax payers back. What a great scam.

i hope these Muslim people are working really hard and looking after their family by their own money and not getting any benefits from Canadian government as child benefit or housing benefit like UK !!\nBecause in UK most of these people dont work and they dont pay tax ,plus each family got minimum 4 kids and the government have too look after them and pay for their house rents ...I dont understand why the UK government not stopping that!!! .

We live in N.Y. about 2 hrs from the border to Canada and we love to go to NOTL for a quick vacation whenever we can - usually 4 or 5 times a year! We find Canadians to be WAY more chill than Americans and we love visiting Canada. One thing I'll tell you is figure out the insurance because we've had employees who didn't bother to do this resulting in them having none. When that happens, and you file your income taxes, the IRS takes a fine out of your return. The first year it's like $100, but it goes up each year. After a few years they can fine you like $600. Depending on how much you earn you may be able to apply for assistance in paying your health care premium or may not have to pay at all. I would encourage you to do that before you start getting fined...and welcome to the USA lol!
