Being born and raised in a third world country, I would love to be the fuel of Canada's economic engine, no matter how bad the Canadian economy might be, I have lived my entire life in an unimaginably much worse one. ?❤

I did my postgrad in NYC (Columbia U) and in the years after I move back to Canada to start my career), I would go back multiple times each year. \n\nIf I could afford it (now that I'm retired), I'd love to live there again.\n\nBut is NYC REALLY part of the US, I wonder... What I liked (and like) about NYC is how walkable it is and (though this comes as a surprise to many Americans) how safe it is as a result.\n\nWith that exception, my answer would be the same as most of those you cite here.\n\nThat said, there are data on this: lots of (mostly young) Canadians do move south for employment, for the warmer weather (or because of a relationship) and many do stay there.\n\nThat population is likely to be very undersampled in your survey, I suspect.

I would never even consider it... any country that could elect Trump is not a place I could ever live. I refused to even visit while he was president. The gun culture is terrifying. The health care system seems unaffordable. I might visit again someday, but not to the southern states where women's rights seem to be going down the toilet...I love Canada!

Disappointing you rushed over a respondent's feeling about the abortion issue in the US as it is completely on point. Health care costs are one thing (actually huge) but when you're forced to carry a fetus to term against your will (would any man?) that alone is why no woman would put her hand up to head to your neck of the woods - for her own sake and for that of her daughter's and any other female for that matter (Canadians tend to care about other people not just themselves). If you want to know why someone WOULD leave Canada for the US, it would likely be for family; or warmer weather...but at this point you guys are on fire and family can come visit us here. We are blessed here for so many reasons (fresh water, beautiful country, health care, freedom to choose, freedom to be gay or straight or whatever you are) and while my mom was American and I have cousins and even a nephew in Florida, and I used to love visiting my grandparents in Vermont and New Jersey as a kid, the whole landscape of the US has changed to one of in your face racism, hatred against women, the LGBTQ and everyone who is not caucasian, not to mention the whole gun business. You guys have lost any appeal whatsoever no matter how hard you crow about how great your country is. Everyone knows the truth about your history and the politically driven obsession to cover it up by attacking everything from books and what can be taught in schools. Just enough.

No. Reproductive rights alone, would stop me. But my health issues and inability to work means the U.S would bankrupt/kill me. However lots of us Canadians accept that there are some really great people in the States and some truly beautiful places. I would love for things to be different, so that I could feel safe there.

Canadian here, born and raised, no Thank you. I like to visit the USA only 2 hours away from me however Canada is my Home forever and I would Never Ever think about moving to the US. It’s for no particular reason as I love my fellow Americans it’s just Canada is Home, it my heart, in my blood.

As an American, I'm sorry our private healthcare system has taken your doctors. What's even more scary about that statistic is many Americans can't even afford the doctors we have, so at least Canadians have equal healthcare opportunities even though they have to wait. Many Americans don't even get the luxury to wait. If only America caught up to public healthcare policies the global system would be more fair and we'd have people becoming doctors because they love it, not because it makes them rich.

I love the chutzpah of Americans! We had a FreeDumb CONvoy in 2022 where Canadians occupied Ottawa waving American flags, Confederate flags, and protesting vaccine mandates at the border. They would never make it in the US, where some self reliance is needed. The protesters were the biggest whiners ever! No Nanny state in America!

I'm Canadian and I would move to certain places in the US, but not all, the same as I think of places in Canada. I love and respect that the States are or were the beacon for democracy and freedom of religion and speech. The world has benefitted so much from the freedoms outlined in your constitution but which are now under such extreme pressure to collapse. Canadians on a whole are too lazy and comfortable to fight for what is right. So sad.

All I can say as a Canadian is why would anyone want to move to the USA.The more I learn the more I love where I live the USA is a hot mess and watching the kind of people that you elect is mind boggling . Why would anyone support a bottom feeder like Donald Trump to run their country. You don't have to be a scholar to realize this man is beyond corrupt and a really bad person. Who in the world other than a 12 year old, makes up names for people and whine all the time just watching this man perform is an eye opener and as a Canadian I'm embarrassed for Americans. This man is taken a once great country and making it a laughingstock. This man should be pushed aside and find someone better to represent the Republicans . I could only think of one thing while listening to Sanjay’s story. Why wouldn’t he just marry an American? Like it really is not that hard, im sure there are countless Americans who would be more than willing to do it as a favor, or maybe simply try falling in love? lol Like it’s not that big of a deal, just marry a friend from college or a hobo and divorce after getting the green card, or find an old person who’s lonely. I was born in Austria in 1950. We immigrated to Quebec in 1951, grew up in Ste Agathe des Monts, 1 hour north of MTL. Married a lovely American, two grown boys, have a wonderful life but would rather be living in Canada but my 72 year old life is here now !!

I'm British, and I would choose Canada over the U.S.A. But? There are good reasons many Brits I know, would pack to go to the U.S.A today if they could.(The flight cost is immense though.)\nWhy would they want to? Kinda the american dream. Bright lights, believed untapped opportunities, and most of all to gain some of that American infectious enthusiasm & non jaded openness. I consider Canadians as generally having the best traits of U.K & U.S people. When I left the Philippines for Europe in the eighties, I first went to the US to again visit relatives. They asked me if I considered staying. Much as I love my relatives I said NO. When I was working for an US airline in the 90s here in Europe would fly from Europe so very often for business and pleasure (sometimes just the weekend) and those trips really just cemented my decision not to move there despite relatives prodding. My single Aunt even offered me to be the sole heir to her entire fortune (over a million dollars) if I stayed there. I declined. My tolerance for ignorance, materialism and hypocrisy is very low.

Children getting shot is not a “touchy subject.” It’s an insane problem. And yes, there are children shot daily! Dude, there is no where on the planet where there are children and humans shot on anywhere CLOSE to the scale that it happens in the US.\n\nAnyway, move to the States? Not on your life! I used to like some vacations there, but the current insane right-wing, fascist politics, anti-vax and anti-mask and anti-science entrenched attitudes, and MOSTLY the pervasive threat of gun violence and the manic love affair with guns — UGH - all mean I am not interested in even vacationing there. There is a sane world outside the USA.\n\nNor would I want to live inside such an inward-looking, self-absorbed “we are the centre of the world” culture that truly believes itself superior to all others in the world. I don't know if money and fame would be enough to overcome my distaste for American politics, religion and guns to move there. I really don't have a reason to visit there anymore. I used to love it there growing up and later being able to bring my own kids, but it's not the country I used to know....Florida scares me.....cheers from Canada.

As a Canadian there looks like some great places to visit in the USA but i would never move to the US. The biggest issue in the US is Gun violence, there attachment to guns. Number two is health care, number three is weather volatility and more adverse weather conditions. Instead of one main government the US seems to have two which prevents any real change for the better. Money controls more government and political decisions than even in Canada which is already bad enough. The NRA controls more government and policing. They are seen as the bigger risk to American safety and security. I believe many Canadians believe the NRA are on the cusp of being the largest domestic terrorist organization and closure to a major cartel. Not even the military could control the NRA if the US decided to enforce new laws that the NRA felt would effect their financial, political or perceived control in the US. This is a big reason Canadians may not want to move to the US. To think there is a private military ready to go to war against their own people in the drop of a hat, reminding North Americans of the war between the North and South. There are beautiful places to see in the US, there are hard working and brave people in the US and i am sure there are more good people than bad but those with power, control and weapons have the great degree of balance. The US has a lot to be proud of and still so much possibility and ability to grow if it were not for those with the majority of power that is not being used for good or in the best interest of the majority of US citizens. Love the architecture and old districts and those trying to preserve the environment, farms, seed diversity and best of what made the US great.

Someone was also funding a mass misinformation campaign telling poor ppl in Latin American countries that for a limited time our borders were fully open wo restrictions w citizenship for all who came. That was funded and perpetrated in the weeks leading up to Title 42 ending. Id absolutely LOVE to see who funded that misinformation campaign of TV and radio spots saying this. It would be sooooo enlightening to trace the chain of money used to pay for those radio and TV spots and caused the mass rush at our borders. The report on where that funding came from would be enlightening

Things I love about being Canadian-- our multiculturalism, our gun control, our availability of abortions, our laws against discrimination that include protecting the rights of the LGBTQ2S community, poutine (hey, it's a thing), that elections don't take two years and constant blathering, blood donors, and our libraries kinda rock. There is so much more. Like how we would not put babies in cages. We have our problems for sure! Some First Nations communities still don't have clean drinking water and we are being so slow about the truth and reconciliation process. Our taxes can be insane. But all in all, it would take a comet hurling straight for Ontario for me to even consider moving South.

I would consider immigrating to the U.S. for love. And I did consider it, but the romance did not work out. Otherwise I would be more likely to consider moving to Scandinavia. : ) I could have immigrated to England, but decided on Canada as my Top Choice of the two, mainly for the prices, and my family. UK Real Estate is very difficult to obtain.

I lived in the US for most of my adult life, so until around 10 years ago. I lived in the South, including Florida (which I loved at the time although the residents there had a crappy attitude). My husband was a refugee in the 70s and is a Canadian, so we moved up here after marrying. I would NOT consider moving back willingly. The politics, the racism, the anti-LGBTQ, anti-women, anti-intelligence, the lack of health care...it all just makes for a really ugly existence. That said, it's also getting tough to stay here due to housing prices.

Diversity and minorities acceptance is relatively better in Canada. As an immigrant, the US would have been a big yes had it been thr 1990s but sadly, the perception to US changed drastically after then and would not want to live in the US even if given a job offer in Boston ( a beautiful city i fell in love with). Just because of what is happening on the political scene. If I need to leave Canada, it would be for Europe where work/life balance, public transit and culture of enjoying life prevails. American corporate culture is depressing.

No, not anymore. The place has gone crazy.\nReason number one, way ahead of any other: Violence. Gun culture is out of control, with any Tom, Dick and Harry able to buy assault rifles. Then there is the political violence encouraged and stoked by Trump and his MAGA followers.\nThere is the absolute lunacy of conspiracy theories everywhere, such as QAnon.\nThere is ultra-conservatism and the religious right and what they are doing to human rights.\nThere is the matter of health care. I have a serious chronic condition which would make me uneligible for health insurance.\nI used to love going to the US. My last trip was over 20 years ago to New York City, which I love. I did not realize it a the time, but that was my last time crossing the border.

I pay 0$ per month for healthcare in Canada. I had 12 months of maternity leave for my son. I’m terrified that someone would ‘pew pew’ me or someone I love. And most importantly, people take their dirty af shoes off when they enter my home. Oh…and many American people are just not educated about the rest of the planet and this would drive me nuts.

I have a thought for you. Start a go fund me and do a cross country trip of both countries and experience the difference yourself. I’m sure your regular subscribers would love to see it too. I’ve lived in both countries and I’ve settled here in Canada. Not saying it’s something for everyone but do a tour and see

I’m a US/Canadian citizen and my entire family live in the US. They always ask me to move back. No Way, I love my home country but with the Health Care cost, crime, and political issues, just doesn’t compare. \n\nMy Step-Father, who was a retired US Marine, was denied much needed medical treatment for Myelodysplasia. When he passed, my mother lost everything, house, car, everything. Had to claim bankruptcy. This would not have happened in Canada.

I lived in the US; Virginia for 13 years. For the most part the people are lovely... just like a lot of places. If you treat people with kindness; they usually return that kindness. At least that is my experience. Mind you, I came home in 2006. When I lived there the political climate was completely different. I would absolutely NOT move back to the US. When I came home to Canada; I was so grateful because I had to endure 2 years without Healthcare when I really needed it. I lived on pain pills at that time. I was in a wheelchair by 2008 and so grateful that I was home where my country took care of me when I was unable to work, or even walk. \n\nPolitics has changed so much since then. It was always kind of poler, but when Donald Trump entered the scene; it has become just awful. Again, I love the Americans for the most part, however there is so much racism, homophobia and hate displayed in the country right now. I pray every day that Donald Trump does not become president again. I fear for the United States. I love her as a sister to Canada; she is. I want her people safe...

I have seen most of the states and would love to do it over again.
