Thank you so much for this useful information. I don't understand why the housing crisis is happening in Canada and Australia as well. The population didn’t change too much compared to the pre-COVID. Where are those houses?

I'm Australian and moved to Canada on a WH. My standard of living was lower, I was paid less for the same job I worked in Australia, the benefits that Canadian workers get aren't as generous as in Australia and there isn't as much protection for workers. All in all a disappointing move and I ended up high tailing it back to Australia well before my Visa even expired This was before Covid though so not sure if things have gotten better or worse.

I quite agree with some of your points, although your understanding of Canada may be a bit naive. I am also a photographer and am studying for a master's degree in design. However, Australia plans to ruthlessly kick out graduates who are over 35 years old. This is why I have to consider finding a job in Canada after graduation. I also think Canada’s natural landscape is far better than Australia’s. The very decent deciduous trees are every visual worker’s dream.

I lived in Toronto from '95-2000, 2003-2004, and finally from 2010-2019, and watching its slide has been terrible. But I'm old enough to remember what it was like in the late '70s when it was still functional and people had no yet become miserable. It's astonishing what greed and stupidity can do. Having lived in Calgary and on both coasts as well as Australia and Japan (where I'm on my second stint) I now see Canada as no longer designed as a home for citizens but rather a holding pen for the fleecing of inmates.

I think these problems have come to plague almost all big cities in the developed countries in the last decade. Canada, like Australia, the UK,, USA, NZ, Netherlands etc is still cursed with the millstone of the failed political ideologies of the last forty or so years. These mitigate against the solutions: the end of mass immigration and a huge home building program. Expensive housing is the root of the problem.

I hope it worked out for you man… as a Canadian, I can say that as much as Canadians love to pretend like we’re super open and welcoming, that’s largely not the case. I’ve witnessed some really disgusting treatment of immigrants first hand, and I have a lot of friends/ coworkers who are immigrants from Latin America and the Middle East, and I’ve heard a lot from them about the micro aggressions that they get from Canadians everyday, the dirty looks they get when speaking their native languages in public, and the immense pressure to assimilate. Worked 1 year in the arctic in 1989 then was offered a job in Singapore in 1990 and never looked back. Singapore taxes are 1/4 of that in Canada plus there are no capital gains tax in Singapore. A country which is very similar to Canada is Australia. I wonder if Australia has the same problems for immigrants and locals that Canada has. I have been to both countries and honestly find no real difference between both countries except for the fact Canadians have a differenct accent and play and follow different sports like Ice Hockey etc. and of course the climate but other than that I find both countries very similar. My question is do both countries have identical problems?

If you earned $150k a year in Nova Scotia, you have to pay $47k tax. If you earned $150k anywhere in Australia, you only pay $40k tax.\n\nIn terms of income taxes, Australia system is much more competitive than Canada.

I used to work for CP Air in Sydney, Australia, in the 1970s and even as a white man I was subjected to raw, rampant racism from CP's Management class posted overseas from HQ in YVR. Promotions, and pay rises, were all granted to white Anglo-Saxons most of whom were grossly under-qualified. I went to YVR in the late 1990s, ironically to chair an IATA meeting of over 900 international attendees, and I fell to my knees in gratitude that I had not chosen to make my home in Canada.
