If i look as a german guy , you can rent a house in calgary for 1200 € brand new , if you look here in germany you rent a appartment with 4 room's you pay 1300-1400 € (2338 CAD) without extra costs. I pay 3607 CAD only for energy for 4700 kWh for a year.

Let's get real here, these international students do not contribute significantly at all to Canada's economy. They are a drain on food banks that locals need for survival. They are a drain on our economy because 90% of them are sending most of their paycheques back to family in India. They are taking jobs away from young Canadians trying to enter the job market while Canada's unemployment rate is high right across the country. The schools mostly are fraudulent diploma mills that are not providing any real world job skills that are useful to Canada or Canadians and 90% of Indian international students who enroll in these colleges do not even attend. It should be very clear now, Canada and Canadians want all these Indians to leave Canada and return to India as stated in the temporary resident visa. If not they will be cut off and deported also incurring a 5 to 10 year ban from Canada.

Is Montreal's housing cost up 40% because of scarcity, or could some/ more of it be because of financial companies and investment companies buying up a much real estate that they can and setting prices high for records profits? I do think it's worth pointing out that the cheap labour reduces incentives for companies to invest in increasing productivity. I think the high real estate costs might be a problem too - too much of Canada's available capital is going towards expanding housing supply and not enough on better technology - software, equipment, etc. I think part of the stagnant productivity has been due to lack of investment in technology, rather than laziness of workers. It's also worth pointing out that a lot of the workforce has been in government, which has been spending more and more money while not having much to show for it, so productivity in the government is another issue too. Bureaucracy and red tape can also be detrimental to productivity in both governments and the private sector. Maybe Canada needs more competitiveness (ex with telecommunications). Lack of training could be an other obstacle to productivity, or for example... not speaking English properly. Sometimes when I get customer service with an Indian, I have to make him repeat 5 times because of his extremely thick accent. He might not be lazy and trying his best, but still not very productive. \n\nWith slavery in the US, the South has been rather inefficient with their labour because slaves were relatively cheap (still had to feed and house them). I immigrated to Canada in 1981 because I married a Canadian I should say French Canadian girl and it was just a better place for her to continue on with her background. We relocated to Ottawa which is bilingual and made it very easy for both of us to assimilate together. I moved back to the USA in 2006 to help my sick brother and move back again to Canada in 2016. I came back for many reasons. The political Edge in the united states, the guns out of control, the increased crime rate daily, in just too many people everywhere. Now I was living in the Tampa Bay area and a lot of the people come from out of state and out of country especially in the winter to spend their cold months in the sunshine. Some things I miss in the United States comes usually down to the cost of living. Unless you get sick. And I miss living by the Gulf of Mexico. Except during hurricane season. I prefer living in Canada only because it's a slower easier paced social environment. It has nowhere near the political stress that the United States has where it can almost be violent. Canada's social structure and environment supersedes the United States tenfold. And of course as we get older, Healthcare is a priority. Our Universities are heavily subsidized and Nurses and Doctors take advantage of this, If Trudeau/Pierre wants to stop our doctors and nurses who graduate going to the USA right after school, They should make them pay back the portion of their education that the taxpayers paid for and never received any healthcare from, It should be you have to work in Canada after graduating for 5 years before moving out of Canada, and if they do, then they pay around $150,000 to break the contract compounded with interest from when they started and finished university/college. I know someone who graduated Nursing in the 1990's, She went to a convention in Toronto, Where she was quickly swayed to move the USA, Its because Nursing here is a 3yr course in the USA its a 6 month course, they aren't educated nearly as much as Canadians, A Canadian nurse can be a GP in rural areas of the USA, Also the Nurse I know within a year was made head nurse of her ward, Bypassing USA Nurses that have been working at the hospital for 10+ years, due to the extra education, This is a big problem, we are educating Nurses and Doctors for the USA and other Nations funded by Taxpayers, Sure Nurses and Doctors do also pay some, but its closer to 1/3 of the actual cost, the other 2/3rd's is taxpayer funded. The average cost of rent in Canada is over 2000 CAD. This rental payment is roughly equivalent to paying for a 300,000 CAD mortgage. The system is broken. Period.

Low skill and low wage might have been ok when costs were low - low food prices, low energy prices, low housing and rental costs, etc. Now that everything is incredibly expensive, Canada is stuck between a rock and a hard place. Either wages will go up (which have been fairly stagnant for the last 30-40 years) so that it goes above and beyond inflation, OR you will not be able to bring in low skill, low wage labor. Simply put, when rents are $3000 a month in Toronto, minimum wage of $15/hr is $2500/mth (before taxes). Add another $1000/mth for food, and $500/mth for other expeditures - and you can see that just to survive - a person in Toronto needs a minimum of $4500/mth to not be on the streets. And this is IFF they are not married and have kids which can easily drive expenses to $6000/mth\n\nSo... for someone to just live normally, they need a bare minimum of $30/hr for 2000hr/year - this is a salary of $60K before taxes!\n\nBut the median income in Canada is 35K to 40K (it's on your tax return which determines if you get extra help from the government).\n\nSo... with these prices - you will never get low wage workers here... period. You can't expect immigrants to work as slaves and then pull your country out of the mess you created by spending money on useless programs like a drunken sailor.\n\nCut costs, cut taxes, cut inflation (stop printing money), cut useless programs (ala DOGE in the US), allow housing to crash, diversify your economy, invest in start ups and entrepreneurs, increase salaries, scrap the carbon tax, etc. Notice - none of these have anything to do with immigration.

Govt wants more people from developing nations, yet they don't want to build hosing, mass transit or any form of infrastructure, not even a protected bike lane. A couple of weeks ago 3 days before I am due for my first vacation in 8 years, I broke a tooth and tried to see a dentist, no appointments for 4 months. A week later, I am waiting to check into my hotel in Bangkok when I decided to break, and I went to the dentist had some X-rays taken, and 2 teeth pulled out took which less than an hour and cost $104.76. Do you see how the system can fail in many different ways?

As someone who had to take the English assessment to attain the PGWP, I complained so much because I didn't come to Canada not knowing English, and I certainly did not graduate without the ability to read, write, listen and even present business cases in English. It pissed me off at the time cause he costs hundreds of dollars for something I was assessed on before even coming to the country. Did they really think my English got poorer after 3 years in the country? \n\nBut I totally get your point why its needed now with the way things are. However, in the long run, I think reforms should be made at the student visa level. Canadian and other international students who worked hard to get into uni don't need a deadweight that cant speak the official language of the university and contribute meaningfully. Forget contributing to Canadian society, would the student himself learn anything?

FIRST i want to point out that MEXICO has a woman president and the US has a convicted felon rather than a woman (x 2)\n\nAlso, anyone who has taken finance or economy classes KNOWS that tariffs are going to negatively impact the everyday Joe and everyday Jane (the working poor aka the middle class) of the United States because it will INCREASE the costs of imported goods for US not the other country!!\n\n???

Canada isn’t against immigration. It is against too many low cost labour force immigrants from India.

What’s immigration like with nursing? I’ve been debating coming over from UK to Canada for 6 months, a year or 2 in a few years when I have more RN experience and have saved money, but with all the things I’ve been seeing online about the housing crisis, cost of living and immigration problems it’s really putting me off. \n\nAny nurses from Canada here got any views or advice on this? Is it difficult to find employment as a nurse in Canada? I thought there was a big shortage of Nurses in the country.\n\nMy other idea was Australia but they seem to be struggling with a housing crisis too ?. Also a lot further away from the UK than Canada. Pay and work-life balance seem better in Australia and so is the weather. Ahhhhh, who knows
