Trump isn’t a “smart guy”. He’s president because the average US voter is very, very stupid.

So much love and respect to Canada from an American that recognizes you are 100% correct. \nWould that we had such an articulate, empathetic, intelligent leader. \nHe is rising to the moment while ours drags us into the mafia thug abyss.

Everyone thinks that this is Canada standing up, but what this means is that the Canadians with our economy that is 1/10 that of the US will be taxed at 25% on our imports, this is going to hurt canadians way more than the retaliatory terrifs will hurt the americans. This may also lead to an escalated response from the US exacerbating the effect. Canada has alway had a tariff on US goods. Canada exports aprox 78% of their goods to the US, while the US exports aprox 17% to Canada. Canada will be crushed from this, but if that's what needs to happen to get them in line, then ok.

As a Canadian - Trumps 'brilliance' has done one thing for sure, it's aligned all of the provinces against our neighbor and former ally the United States. It's done something we ourselves have had difficulty with - gaining support from Quebec. The overwhelming vast majority of Canadians don't trust the US anymore, as the legal justification for the tariffs is absolute bull, and is a pretext for Trumps actions. My family has cancelled all US travel, in my case 2 trips this year worth 15K to the US. I will miss Vegas for my 60th. We used to shop in WA State weekly; last year I spent 11K in WA State, and routinely took in shows in Seattle. No more. \n\nCan anyone please explain why Trump is screwing over Americans? Seriously.

Thank you Prime Minister for speaking the truth and speaking directly to American citizens. Many of us in America continue to support our friends and allies and Canada is certainly our strongest.
