So for those with partners who are undocumented, you can expect one day that partner simply won't return home. Prepare for the worst. It is now a reality. Your partner leaves the house, goes to work at a factory or whatever job and the location gets raided. Even if that person is latino and 'legal', it will take time to sort out the confusion. That person may not be carrying documents showing permanent residency. It won't matter. Once you're on a truck, headed to some undisclosed location as an 'illegal', that's it. Anyone reading this that is planning on crossing the border. I'm gonna be frank with ya. And if you get out of that, you still have to somehow get warm again. But let's say you avoid that, what then? Well, we have these really cold biting winds that make the -30 temps feel like -40 or worse. But you came prepared, so let's say you can handle that for a bit. Well, you sweat. You will get damp, then wet, over time. Then your fancy clothing doesn't do much for you anymore. Ya dig?\n\nOh but wait, there's more. So we have this wildlife eh', and it likes to do this thing that wild life does... and it eats you. Coyotes are one such kind of wildlife. Bears are another. Both are prolific in certain areas, all the way down to the border in some cases. \n\nGranted, coyotes usually aren't a huge problem for us up here, but that's cause we know how to deal with them usually. Bears are another issue, that even we have problems with at times. You'll probably run into a black bear if you run into one. Grizzlies tend to be further north and to the west. You're gone too far somehow if you find Polar bears. \n\nThere are other critters to mention, but they're more active in the summer, like rattle snakes. (Yes, we have them)\n\nOkay, so you got past the border, and you actually somehow managed to survive the winter temps in your trek to some sort of civilization. Now you have to somehow find a place to live. This is of course assuming you decided to try to bypass all our border security of course. You could go to an embassy and declare asylum I guess. But right now, you're more likely to be given a ticket back to where you came from initially. So that's not something in the game plan for you. What then?\n\nWelcome to being homeless. Oh, and you're still having to deal with our winter temperatures. \n\nSuffice to say, right now is not a good time to be trying to ignore our laws just to do whatever you want. So many people disconnected with the fact that while not all illegal citizens commit crimes, some of the ones who do aren't being held accountable. Many of them are residing in Sanctuary cities which protects them. In these sanctuary cities, when they commit a crime, sure they get arrested because that's a police officer's job, but then these criminals are immediately released. Montrealer here. You can send your kids to any school you can afford. If they're destined to be part of the elite (because you have a lot of money, or whatever), they'll fit right in. Just make sure you can afford all the years it'll take for them to graduate. Otherwise, the switch could be a bit rough on them.\n\nIf you drive, invest in winter tires, even if the province you're in don't make them mandatory. You have to give your body a chance to acclimate itself to the lower temperature. \n\nWhen buying clothes for winter, the secret to being warm is NOTHING TIGHT. Get a loose jacket, and boots you can move your toes in, with a good sole (no thin cute leather boots please, they are not for winter, just for show), and wear them with fluffy socks, no tight bands. Also, get mittens instead of gloves, much much warmer. And a loose tuque, or ear muffs with the hood of your jacket.\n\nAnd get a pair of ice cleats, for those days when everything is covered in ice.
