Basic math can tell you that if you invite 500K people here a year when you build 250K houses a year will result in homelessness. And if you don’t create 500K jobs a year that there will be mass unemployment. Our politicians can’t do basic math.

My friend from Thailand got married to a Canadian man and they lived in Canada for almost 12 years. However, due to the high inflation and cost of living in Canada, they decided to move back to Thailand. As a result, they sold their house in Canada.

I'm surprised by how much everyone promotes moving to Nova Scotia, given the housing shortage that has led to exorbitantly high rents, a one-bedroom apartment in an old building costs 1,600, and in new building costs 3,500 per month. And for three people I pay 85 dollars of electricity every two months. Internet is 105 dollars per month. Professional salaries barely cover rent, food, and car expenses, as they are quite low, often ranging between $50,000 and $60,000 for positions requiring 5 to 10 years of experience, and sometimes even lower. Before you even see your paycheck, expect at least 30% to be deducted for taxes, as calculated by a Nova Scotia tax calculator. The healthcare system is struggling; last year, joining a list to be assigned a family doctor was estimated to take up to three years. For those seeking care at walk-in clinics, you must arrive before 7 am and wait in line; they only see the first 15 people, typically just on Mondays. If you're last, you might wait until noon or later to be seen. After working for 40 years, the pension is approximately $1,200, or less if you haven't worked the full duration with salaries over 60,000. \n \nI forgot to mention that prices in stores are without an additional 15% tax, you should add that to every product or service you purchase. If you want to go to a restaurant, an economical one, and buy a lasagna and something to drink, it will cost you at least 70 dollars. McDonalds and Tim Hortons, for three people, may cost 40 dollars, but it is your health. \n \nThe government is investing millions to attract students and new immigrants, making labor significantly cheaper for large companies. Individuals with low wages can't even afford the cheapest rent, resulting in some living in tents across cities and towns in Nova Scotia. With an annual inflation rate of 15% to 25%—and the official rate reflecting only a detailed list of products deemed as basic food items by the government—only the minimum wage is legally required to increase when deemed appropriate by the government. Other wages increase only if the employer decides to do so. How often do they do this out of kindness to their employees? That's a good question. \n \nYour work experience in other countries does not count. They want people with Canadian experience, so it is better to think you will start with a 35,000 salary per year. A house cost between 450,000 to 2,500,000. When are you going to save to pay for a house? The cheapest ones can be 200 years old. A 100 m2 apartment, new, not very elegant but nice, can cost more than 2 million dollars in downtown Halifax. People say it is due to money laundry, and for sure is not because the medium class is buying them. \n \nI have many friends, who graduated from Canadian colleges and universities that haven't gotten a job in their career even after four years of graduation... and the list is longer. Please, be honest with people

India brings a complete opposite religion, language and ideology to foreign countries. It’s the Indian the does not participate in community activities, and integrate into a true Canadian national identity. This refusal has ultimately resulted in Indian being discouraged and quickly blaming others for the problem they have. If rent in downtown Vancouver on the 25th floor is to expensive, maybe try moving to more rural communities in Canada, where costs are different in living. If you come from a poor punjab province in India whereas you’ve sold the farm to come , then don’t expect a downtown Toronto sky rise , 1500 square foot 17th floor underground heated parking, to be the dream destination of your vision. It’s comparable to moving from the punjab to downtown Delhi and expecting the same cost comparisons to the punjab. Unfortunately it’s not sad to see the Indian people go. Hopefully Canada will begin immigration of more cultural like minded people and more people that have religious alliances, than some completely opposite ideology than a Canadian nationalist.

oh no! Canadian businesses, will lose their cheap, subsidized, foreign labor, and will have to educate and pay their own citizens. the Housing crisis is a result of corrupt local government, manipulating the housing market, with frivolous codes and regulations, plenty of land, just a lot of corruption

Biggest issue in Canada is infrastructure. Canadian infrastructure and urban planning is a copy of post war American suburbia abd the results are that it has made housing impossible as the current rules basically has abolished any construction of missing middle housing for the middle class in 90% of Canadian neighborhoods for housing. Infrastructure and services in medium and small cities are nowhere near major city hub making big city centers expensive not even mentioningthe terrible public transportation they have ( for a G7 nation is an embarrassment that their passenge rail service is 40 years behind Europe) . In addition foreign degrees even from English nations are not recognized and it takes years and resources to get accreditation.

The article claims that for decades, immigrants have fuelled Canada's ecomonic growth. Ok, but what about strengthening its culture, to ensure that in the long term, this country remains successful? No, from what i have seen, the breakneck rate of immigration has hollowed out Canada's culture. What I see around me are newcomers that are not being integrated, or that outright refuse to, or are openly hostile to the host culture. How any of these people believe that Canada can remain successful, and them also, as a result, is beyond me. To me, it seems obvious we need a pause and reset and I'm doubtful that this small decrease in applications will achieve anything.

Canada is a great country I have be here for over half a century raised my family. The culture has changed with the times with Govt Policies put the test resulting in skyrocketing COL like food rents housing costs etc and lack of it not making Canada desirable at this time. The Cap on Foreign Students represents a \nCooling Off period for Canada which will prove beneficial in the coming years. All Indian and Foreign Students have been productive constructive ambitious and disciplined who all made a positive contribution to Canada. Times have changed and Govts will also Change with time. Keep up the good work at BBC.

I think it is the quality of the immigrants that come to Canada that needs to be analysed. If too many low skilled or people with unemployable skills are granted visas, then any country, let alone Canada, would seem like a tough country to settle and earn. Canadian govt seems to be lenient in allowing too many unemployable ppl to get into the country. This has resulted in an imbalance. It just needs a strong govt which Canada lacks at this point in time. 90% of the problems can be solved within 4 to 5 years if govt stops or regulates visas.

As a person living for around twenty years in Canada, the real problem is too much supply of human resources from outside Canada especially from India. This is around 35% and trying to concentrate in certain areas of Canada. This has caused too much burden on Health care, Transportation, housing, and other public services in those areas. Unlike the time I migrated to Canada, all places are now overcrowded. There are not enough job opportunities due to the large influx of students. Thousands of applicants for one job from the day they arrive here. You can get some idea of how many applied on the job site Indeed. This has resulted in companies and job agencies exploiting students by paying low wages and firing them indiscriminately. Therefore, both the Canadian government and the Indian government have a role to play and Students too should be aware of the real situation here.

350 million Legislation Biden Administration to Begin Awarding $350 Million of Your Money to House, Feed, and Transport Illegal Aliens\nBiden Administration to Begin Awarding $350 Million of Your Money to House, Feed, and Transport Illegal Aliens\nShare This Article:\nMarch 3, 2023\nFEMA office, Emergency Food, Biden\nFair - no staff photo available\nWill Riley\nFAIR Take | March 2023\n\nOn February 28, in another brazen move to prioritize illegal aliens over hardworking Americans, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced it will begin awarding $350 million of taxpayer money to “help local communities around the country better manage the costs of noncitizen arrivals in their communities.” The award is for illegal aliens “provisionally released from DHS custody pending the outcome of their immigration court proceedings.” It’s the first allocation from a new $800 million slush fund for illegal aliens created by the $1.7 trillion Fiscal Year 2023 omnibus spending bill, which President Biden signed December 29 while vacationing at taxpayer expense in the Virgin Islands. Per guidance cited in the department’s press release, the latest grant may fund month-long hotel stays and plane tickets up to $700 per illegal alien, among other things. This comes as everyday Americans suffer from record inflation, crime, and deadly fentanyl poisoning their communities as a result of these financial incentives for mass illegal migration.\n\nThe $350 million grant supports the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP), which is overseen by a National Board chaired by a representative of DHS’ Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The other six board members represent woke open-borders charities and religious organizations, including Catholic Charities USA, which has drawn Congressional scrutiny for allegedly “violating federal law and regulation, placing migrants and American communities at risk, and subjecting local communities to unreasonable burdens” by “facilitating the movement of illegal immigrants across our border.”\n\nLocalities and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) can apply for reimbursement – or, in some cases, advance funding – for a variety of activities to “support” illegal aliens. In addition to the aforementioned hotel stays and plane tickets, taxpayer money may go towards “legal aid” to help aliens get around our immigration laws, “translation services” so aliens don’t have to even bother learning the language of the country they’ve illegally invaded, “mental health” (a vague term that could encompass a wide range of expenses), up to $5,000 of reimbursement for big-ticket purchases like cars or A/C units, and/or payroll expenses for staff – including overtime.

The degenration of Canada and other countries is the result of zi,onist lobby's that want to kill society and the economy of the country. Look at the prime minister of Canada or the president of the USA or the prime ministers of European country's, all are pro zi,onist, and corrupted or blackmailed by them and m,ossad agents. Zi,onist lobby's have gained so much power and influence that they scarily control the world and it's leaders. Fortunately, many people are waking up but still many people do not realize how these evil worshippers are sabotaging people's lives.

Secondly, I read somewhere that as a pharmacist I'm supposed to evaluate my result using pharmacist evaluation board in Canada I.e PEBC and not WES. How true is it and what are the advantages and disadvantages. \nThirdly, I did my CRS and I got 563, compared to others I'm seeing around, mine is looking outrageous. If you push for the safety and security of the ISRAELIS the safety and security of the Palestinians will be a natural result of that. Israel didn't invitee the Arab League to refuse to recognize, refuse to negotiate or refuse to have peace with israel. Remember that Israel didn't ask for the1967 war, the 1973 war, the ruthless joyful killing of innocents on Oct 7 2023. Before the earlier wars the West Bank was part of Jordan and Gaza belonged to Egypt. Israel didn't ask for bus bombings or bombings at pizza parlors or wedding halls. They didn't give the Palestinians all of Gaza just to have rockets lobbed from Gaza at Israeli civilians for 18 years. You want peace for the Gazans and all Palestinians... demand peace for the Israelis as well; actually first. The peace will follow.

What a surprising rule in Canada. You let your people take drugs in account of liberty. But you never allow a foreign student to see their answers sheets in case they have attempted all the questions, but the student declared failed in results. Look into it.
2024-01-20 0
The reliance on tuition dollars to cover basic operational costs is an inevitable result of decades of government austerity policies that have systematically gutted the post-secondary and other public sectors. The disparity between domestic and international tuition costs followed, a disparity that has been gradually increasing as universities find themselves in increasingly desperate financial situations - with limited sources of revenue. If direct government payments were increased to pre-1990 levels (and I would be willing to bet that most Canadians would approve of their tax dollars supporting education and training programs for Canadians), it would allow universities and colleges to manage their finances without disproportionate reliance on tuition - in particular international tuition. Bottom line - resuming adequate and equitable funding for post-secondary education must be front of mind while discussing the implications of lack of housing for international students. The point about cuts to public funding is underplayed and not well-contextualized in this CBC analysis - which just barrels on to band-aid fixes (like capping numbers or building more housing). The funding model itself needs to be fixed. Let's change the model from provincial to a provincial/federal hybrid funding model. And while we're at it, let's revise the funding model for healthcare. Why not do a sequel segment on that.
2024-01-20 0
Very clearly this is a deep issue. Yes the numbers are too high and the impacts on housing and services is undeniable, but that is a direct result of underfunding at a provincial level too. \nComplete mess.

?ɴᴛᴇʀɴᴀᴛɪᴏɴᴀʟ ?ᴛᴜᴅᴇɴᴛꜱ - They’re classified as Non-permanent Residents in Population Estimates for they’re to leave Canada after their studies! However, there’s the option to become permanent residents (around a third succeed) and the main reason is Canada’s low fertility rate (below the replacement level of 2.1)! Sadly, the program is being abused by some people which results in socio-economic issues (e.g. housing)!

To be honest I an frastrated with Trudeu Government, as a Canadian our jobs have been given to these international students, they are being used as cheap labour by big companies, resulting in Canadians losing their jobs, which is not fair. Housing is so expensive because of the international students.

if you earn less money then you don't pay that much tax for health care. I've never paid over 15% of my income for income tax and because I earn so little I don't pay monthly health care premiums they are just free. The reason I earn so little is because I have a 3yo and no options for childcare when his dad is working so I can only work when his dad is not working. As a result I get the maximum canadian childcare benefit (CCB). Although the main reason I haven't left canada yet besides family, is the clean drinking water, relatively clean air (I live in a rural area) and low levels of environmental diseases (malaria, hep B, dengue, zika, cholera, parasites etc). I keep trying to find a country that can offer clean drinking water and clean environment with decent climate and soil for growing food, and decent health care and work opportunities. If anyone has any suggestions for countries like this to research I'd love to hear them.

Shut down the foreign student programs and this will contribute to reducing the housing pressure. Less foreign students will result in reduced rents and allow post secondary to be more feasible for domestic students. Investing in domestic students in essential for Canada's long term growth as opposed to this short sited tactic of training foreign students who leave. Also, encourage domestic students into the trades as we already have too many with university educations. We need trades people more now than ever... the housing shortage is a great example of this.

I agree with all of what you said, of course it’s a result of still the 2008 crash people have not recovered then they were hit by COVID-19 then after COVID-19, both Canada and America have drained their money into the Ukraine war, after that now Canada is draining its reserve into the clash in the mid east, trying to walk in line with America again, but they have America have US dollar which is backed by most of the world even though America is suffering now they are now on 33 trillion deficit, and it is continuing, many economist, they say if it wouldn’t be, America are printing the dollar if it would’ve collapsed long time ago, America is involving itself around the world and that cost huge money but it is unfortunate that Canada it’s trying to follow with it which means higher taxes and higher cost in the trillions

Excellent explanation, it’s good that you and your husband are working together to minimize the coast, but oh my God how old are you? You look very young but still, you lived in so many places around the world from Germany to Indoneasia, and now, you are five years in Canada, but you look, of course, from the far east, so that’s another probably four country, oh my God, you lived everywhere in this world, I wonder how many languages you speak by now, good luck for you you are very good explainer, I love cold, lovely, snowy weather, but just enjoy it, but not to live in it. I am happy that I live in Florida, it is true you might not want to get into politic, or your program is not about politic, but it is politician, who makes the rules that affect everything, so one way or another we are a result of political decision

It's really strange to hear these topics. I remember in the 1980's people warning about universal healthcare that always results in wait times, in some instances very long wait times. Humans are a broken record: the same warnings, the same actions, the same unfortunate results.
