You cant be more right. With 10 yrs of exprience and a masters in my field, I had to leave Toronto as all employers asked for registration. I was jobless for 5 mths and coming from a warm country had to purchase winter clothing etc.. all my parents savings were gone. Starting from scratch with education etc has been financially very draining, till date I have no savings, I find myself working day and night and exhausted. There is no family and friends and with covid you cannot travel. Health care is pathetic, dentists are a rip off. I got an apt with a specialist after 1.5 yrs! Taxes are beyond comprehension! I am so done here! I sold my car, took my parents savings and find myself much worst and was so much better back home!

the only positive thing I've found here is school. I came from Mexico City with a bachelor's degree in Law but decided to study Criminology at Seneca College, and I have to admit that the books are great, but the rest of my new Canadian life is awful: everything is expensive; I've got a minimum wage salary; the weather is extremely cold, etc. I think I will end moving back to my home country.

I like how y’all have created this video by not applying a negative undertone rather more of an informative approach to caution prospective movers of what potentially awaits them. All I would like to highlight is the fact that some people will experience all these points as negative aspects or maybe even one or two that might lead to the breaking point.\nIt all depends on where you come from and how life was in your “home” country.\nYou might come from a higher tax environment with non existent healthcare and education. From that perspective, 40% taxes might look better and the healthcare might be great or crap depending on what your health issues are. I personally haven’t had any struggles with most of these aspects - finding a great job was relatively easier, (key word - relatively) the healthcare system worked for me when I needed it to, I was mentally prepared for the high taxes, I culturally adapted to the point where people thought I was Canadian and didn’t realize I came in from a very different environment. I’m sure this cultural adaptation helped me with my job and made it easier to live here.\nAll in all, you can say I’ve had the “perfect” immigrant experience that most people would dream of. But what do i think really? Personally, I have come to realize that Canada at the moment does not fit into my personal goals and values and that is okay. Loneliness away from people you love can be tough. It just isn’t the same feeling making new friends and hanging out with coworkers who are much older than you are and in a different place in life. I’m very close to my family and friends who I’ve grown up with and are on the other side of the world. My parents are getting older and I want to spend as much time with them as possible. For that reason, I might consider being somewhere closer to them. I’d perhaps consider coming back here some day when I’ve got my own family and kids which I currently don’t have. To me, that’s a personal value high on the list. I guess my only takeaway from this video and advise to people looking at each of these points - take each one and compare it with your home country. If you think you’re better off in Canada, then move - it’s a great place! If not, think about it real hard and weigh out the pros and cons.

I lived everywhere in Canada except the Territories, Manitoba, and N.B., and I always come back to Quebec. It's NOT that it's better in everything. It's just that it's better in everything that counts for ME!!!\n- It's the CHEAPEST place to rent or own but has great wages and a high minimum. \n- Most of our cities are in the St-Lawrence valley. That means we have a LOT of local produce in-season. \n- We have a diversified economy. Less manufacturing and heavy stuff than Ontario, but LOTS of high-tech and knowledge-based jobs. With a HUGE service industry, bloated by the constant influx of tourists.\n- It's got the BEST quality of social life in the country. It's an all-year party and club season. \n- It's got FOUR real and distinct seasons.\n- It's almost as beautiful outside as BC. Until autumn and the colors, then it's better for a few weeks.\n- It's got the BEST social net in the country. \n- It's got the most beautiful women too. No question whatsoever about that one.\nAnd it's the SAFEST... That and being cheap to live in are the two main points. I'm bilingual, so I don't care about the French-only oddities, they are few and far between. It's 2021, not 1980. The Internet and Cable tv from the US changed EVERYTHING. ALL of the kids and young adults will answer you in English if you aren't acting like a jerk. So will almost anyone under 60.

I’d love to visit Atlantic Canada: all my friends here on the West Coast say it’s very nice. \nI loved living in Quebec and Montreal, but both cities are very cold in winter—and I don’t speak no french too good, hoste! \nI’m from Ontario. it probably was a beautiful place until white people got there. But it’s way too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. Most of my family has moved out to the West Coast. I guess they missed me.\nManitoba is very nice, but you’re right about cold winters and lots of mosquitoes in summer. Winnipeg is a fantastic city. The biggest city on the North American Plains.\nSouthwest Saskatchewan is absolutely beautiful. Nuff said.\nAlberta is one of my favourite provinces—just too bad about the goofy government they got there. I lived and worked there lots over the years. Many Albertans have moved out here to the West Coast to get away from the horrid politics there.\nBC is by far the best place to live. I used to live in Victoria—we might move back there—it’s my favourite city anywhere. Vancouver is a blast—but too big for me. I am from NYC and I always wanted to visit the Maritimes since I was in 3rd grade in 1987-88 when I saw them on a Atlas that I had ordered. In 2006 I got to fulfill that dream. I started in Halifax and I toured Cape Breton Island, Antigonish, the Acadian country and the Cabot Trial.\nMy tour guide a warm friendly former Lieutenant in the Canadian Army made the trip for me! We went to PEI and rode bikes on beautiful trials. We crossed the Confederation bridge stepped foot on New Brunswick and crossed right back to Halifax.

My aunt and uncle are trying to move back to Haiti. Google Haiti and our safety issues. Yet my uncle and aunt are trying to go back. Honestly that tells me all I need to know. Not bashing Canada in any way. But my uncle was a qualified engineer and my aunt a nurse. They're native french speakers, good English speakers. They went back to school and did everything right, passing all the exams, only to be offered part time employment and no career progression whatsoever. They got passed on for promotions and raises. They're happy they offered a better life to their children, but as they age, they're trying to go back home to Haiti.

When you have your own country then why you need to move to any other country to live it sound so stupid to me. Only people who move to any other country should be refugees and once things got better they should go back to build their country.

Immigrated from Haiti to Montreal in 2001, I was 22. it was impossible getting work in what I studied but worked odd jobs for a few months. Then I went back to university and got a Masters. Husband went back to university as well and got an accounting degree. I have to say the diplomas worked. We ended getting good jobs in our field and now have very good careers. We have some Haitians friends and after years of effort they are all doing relatively well here in Montreal. So can’t complain work wise as long as you are patient, do what you have to do you should make it. For me the biggest drawbacks are the harsh climate and the difficulty to make Canadian friends but plenty of immigrants to befriend so. Also as an immigrant you need to adapt and a lot of people cannot adapt to a new country and want to have what they had back home here that is not realistic. Immigration is not for everyone. But no regrets.

Well put . I came to Canada at the age of 12 in 1992. After graduating in 2002 I was unable find a job in my field even entry level. I worked in cx service for another 5 years until i paid the little student loan I owed 15K. Then I made a way to move to USA. Took me 3 weeks to land a job in my field. I also got my masters. After 3 years in the USA came back to over priced Toronto to get married. Even as a nurse Toronto is unaffordable. Bills and more bills. Goal is to return to my native country, I already bought lands and is preparing. I got kids but I don't want them to stress. Education is everywhere.

I agree with all the points, but this situation is not only in Canada but everywhere. I will start from my home country India, Since graduation I was working as a part time teacher and I deadly love that profession. To qualify myself I did so many courses, internships, attended workshops, completed my B.Ed and M.Ed but everything went vain when I started searching a job. The amount of hardwork I did was not at all recognizable, salaries were so low but still I worked thinking may be later I will get an opportunity but to a disappointment it never happen. Later, I moved to UAE thinking maybe here atleast I will get what I expected, struggled for 5 months to get a job luckily I was on a family visa. I lowered my expectations, ready to work on the lowest salary but still I did no job. Finally I decided to go back to my home country but was still applying for the jobs thinking to not loose hope till the date of my flight and believe me the next day I got a call and got selected the same day with an average package not the lowest but still I was happy. So I think difficulties are everywhere it depends on how you are dealing with them and mostly being positive is the main key for success. Even I am deciding to immigrate Canada, have many friends their who are happy with their lives but it doesn't mean I should keep my hopes high but the best thing I can do is accepting whatever is coming to me and being grateful of whatever I have. (BTW teachers are underrated everywhere)

a lot can be said about your narrative. you failed to mention the age of immigration. That alone is THE single most important factor on the out come of the exercise . anyone over 40 should not immigrate. second the education and skill set you bring will be a major factor in the out come. Third there is systemic racism after a certain level which one can feel in very job. i strongly believe one should come to Canada, get top quality education and skill, work with top quality people/organizations which should not be more than 5-6 years, then go back home. the long term price of immigration is huge. This country needs hands to work and pay taxes so that their show should go on. A security guard watched as I was taken into a little office, had my purse contents dumped on the floor and was told I must have stolen something. I pointed out the teenagers who were blatantly stuffing things in cargo pants pockets. They ignored them. After pawing through my things I was told I could put the stuff back in my purse. I demanded the manager pick up everything and put it on his desk and then I'd put it in my purse. As I left the alarm rang again. We realized the Stone Mountain metal label on the front of my purse set off the alarm. He never apologized. I called the corporate office and was told he'd get a reprimand. I could have charged him with assault. Grabbing me and forcing me into his store and office against my will violated FL laws. I never set foot in that store again and warned everyone I met not to. It may have been a coincidence but the store was shut down within 6 months. Others of different races said that manager had harassed them, too.

I have experienced security guards walking back and forth between the aisles staring at me in London and other parts of England, much more so than in the US. I am black, and the weird thing is that some of the security guards have been black and dark-skinned like me. I got tired of it, and now when it happens I wave to them and say hello. Sometimes, when I'm feeling especially brave and frustrated, and when they walk close to me, I ask them if they're watching me and tell them, 'Don't worry. I don't steal.' It's satisfying to see the embarrassed and uncomfortable looks on their faces.

When I got my DNA results back I have DNA from China, Indonesia, Myanma, Thai, Khmer, Japan, Korea, Mongolia, Madagascar and Native American, basically I'm much more of global citizen, even I look Chinese and a Canadian citizen. My mother was German/Irish. My father was french/dutch. I tan quite well, enough time in the sun and I get Puerto Rican dark. I got my dad's curly hair. I spent 10 years on the south coast of of the US so when I moved back to Missouri I was quite dark, not really an issue on the cost as everyone is kinda dark lol Back in Missouri I got followed around stores, had my bags checked coming out of stores, had clears talk to me in slow broken English, and before I could open my mouth was told they didn't speak spanish. I have since lost my tan and all that with it. Stuff like that is a real wake up call.

Thai here. Used to study at US for 5 years. Got a job at a local mart owned by a couple of Thai elders. I was super liberal back then but after 4 - 5 months.... Turne out stereotyes exist for a reason. I don't like it but that's how it is. We didn't have enough staffs to keep eyes on every customers. And 95% of all the shoplifters are a certain specific race. \n\nThey don't even care about the cameras. Only way to prevent loss is keeping eyes on them and get the merchantdises back when they tried to fled.

This is very unscientific compared to other Marketplace investigations. i have had worse things done to me by hispanic security guard at Safeway. I am white. i refused to provide my receipt to guard who singled me out after this happened to me multiple times, see below. they detained me for 15 minutes. I called the Berkeley police. Instead of arresting them for false imprisonment Police told me I was banned from store and would be arrested if I return. I have video. Wonder if that would go viral? No, I’m white. Also accused of stealing by Asian american deli workers at Safewat in SF. I have video of that. In that case black security guard backed me up in my claim that I brought in the rye bread from outside that I asked my sandwich be made with. At another Safeway in SF the Eastern European deli manager got the black security guard to single me out to produce my receipt. I showed it to him. A few days later I saw a black man walk in that Safeway and go to the expensive cold drinks area, open a bottle and start drinking it. I alerted the store workers but they refused to ask him fir his receipt because they had not personally seen him steal it. I had nit stole anything but that did not prevent them from asking this white dude or accusing me falsely in 3 different Safeway stores.

What kind of computer system does Canada have. A stamp on a passport needs to be backed up by the same info in the system. I got caught on this same thing in Peru! Peru! Yes I paid an immigration officer for a stamp. But it wasn't in the system and they got me the next time I went through immigration!

I don't know if the computer test is as accurate as it could be. I know for myself when I took it presenting the e key as bad and black and the i key as good and white then reversing it once you got in a rhythem really messed me up. There were many words that I had a brainfart and had to refer back to the labels to remember the keys. I think if it was presented in the reverse order it would probably change my results.

My parents live in Ontario and they’re Muslim. It didn’t seem right how after 9/11 Muslims around the world were celebrating, including my uncles and cousins back home. I came to Christ in 2010 and I’m so blessed to be saved by grace. I’m so glad I have a choice to love God and not forced any more. I’m really worried for this lady Farzana, I’m sure she gets death threats by other Muslims. I experienced it myself when I told a Muslim man I no longer practiced Islam, and that I’m a believer in Christ. He was furious! I told my parents how I got away and even though they are devout Muslims, they realize how I am in danger and my Mom told me I shouldn’t tell other Muslims about my faith. I told her I wasn’t gonna deny Jesus. She worries about me but I told her, I know my destiny for a fact. I had a personal encounter with Jesus and there’s no way I can deny Him. My only prayer is my family will know Christ and one day we will be in heaven together. I’m looking forward to that day. I honestly don’t want to be here in this awful, world where there is so much hate. I want to be with my Savior soon. I don’t even care if I’m killed by a Jihadi. If that’s how God will show my parents how corrupt Islam is then so be it. I just want them to know Christ.
