The real problem is government policies.. Yes we do need to help disadvantage Americans first but let's be fr its enough resources for the world to have Peace if we work together but the powers that be will always put us up against each other so we don't recognize who the real enemy is. This is unfair, I waited and spent a lot of money and followed the rules to migrate here from the Philippines. My relatives, who are nurses and teachers, wanted to migrate here to the US, too, but it's hard to do it. Yet they let these people who have no background check will be freeloader and can't speak English, yet they Government let them in. Why choose this kind of people instead of people who will contribute to the economy rather than freeloaders. I don't get it.

These people need to know we can't take care if the World. I hate this so much. I know it’s not these peoples fault that their countries aren’t helping them but America isn’t even helping its own people. Imagine how it feels to be from the US struggling and then these people come and somehow our country has the means to help them when they won’t not can’t won’t help their own. US immigration system is broken but it's still the best in western world if you are in engineering, mathematics and tech. I studied and worked in US, moved to India for personal reasons. I realized its difficult to adjust back in India, and US will never let me naturalize, so I moved to Canada. But Canada has hardly any jobs of its own, most of people in tech here work for American companies. In US, even an aerospace, biomedical, virology or genetic engineering person can find job in his/her field despite being on job visa, but in Canada its very tough. \nFew weeks back, I met an Uber driver who came to Canada 4+ years back, mechanical/automative engineer and was not able to find a job in his field despite no need for license with advance education and many years of relevant experience. He became Canadian citizen few weeks back, and guess what, he received 2 job offers in US and was moving to US on TN visa. \nI am myself working on something in Canada that is not my specialization. In US, I can get multiple messages from top government contractors for scientist/researcher positions, but I could not work for them as I don't have citizenship. In canada, despite being a PR, I know many experienced people who are forced to drive uber or do survival jobs.

As a first gen Chinese American, and to be fair to the US, please remember (1) US has a border with Mexico, which means illegal immigration is so much bigger than legal ones that it sucks up much of the government immigration resources. (2l when the US population is as small as Canada's today, US was not only letting in people from all over the world but also giving them free land (google the homestead acts).

The dream was, when I retire I was going to joint the snowbirds and flock south to Florida or Arizona. Winters for seniors in many parts of Canada are pretty rough. However since 2016 the US has gone so far off the rails, I have looked at other countries to warm up in the winter. I used to visit the US every two years, but now, I don't want to visit let alone live there. Canada is not perfect, but the overall quality of life is much better, the fear-factor of just about everything from Government, to gun-violence is just so ridiculous, I have given up on the US turning around any time soon.

Tyler, with complete respect you DON'T get why we generally have no interest in moving to the US. You constantly talk about 'you just have to find the right place to live'. True of anywhere, but here the choice would be about preferences and afordability, NOT to avoid gun violence or shunning because of political views.\nThere is no where in Canada I could move to where gun violence would be a big factor to consider (we have rough places, and gun violence, but STRICT gun laws). Let me give you some perspective. In 2019 the USA had 37,038 gun related deaths. (No other causes of death- JUST all gun death). In Canada, in 2019, our death by illegal means (which does include suicide, as it is illegal) was 5,874. (That is for ALL types of homicide, not just guns). And the government was shocked by the increase that year and tightened gun restrictions further.\nYou talk about having certain States more Red or Blue. We aren't bi- partisan, so our politics are a melting pot. You might have people you disagree with everywhere you go, but you will also always find an equal group who thinks similar (unless your an extremist). And even the people who think different will generally agree to dis- agree. There is next to nowhere in Canada where your political views would get you run out of town. \n\nYou are USED to thinking like an American. (Fair, your American; I think like a Canadian) Trust me, as a Canadian, there are aspects of the accepted American culture (your country's way of life) that is boarderline terrifying to people here.

Lack of affordable housing -- lack of housing in general -- is the main reason people already living here are being priced out and why so many refugees and immigrants cannot afford the cost when they move here. When these people come to Canada for a better life and/or to escape the suffering that they were living in, they cannot bring their homes with them. It is the government's responsibility at all levels to ensure that these newcomers have a place to go when they come here. A homeless shelter should not be the answer. Buy up office spaces and convert them (if safe to do so with whatever codes need to be met) into affordable housing units. For years we've been seeing hundreds of news articles about vacancies in office buildings being at all time highs, yet only a handful of them are being converted. 500,000 people a year entering a country where there isn't enough housing for them (let alone the people living here already) is irresponsible on the government's part. If this is your pledge, at least give these people a better life and not send them to shelters or onto the streets as soon as they arrive. If Canada is to truly be a safe haven for immigrants and refugees escaping their hardships, it's paramount that the government does what it can to make these people actually feel like their life will change for the better. I'm all for immigration since it helps the economy and knowing that Canada can put people in a better position for themselves and their families, but it's the lack of preparation from the governments that makes me question their pledge in this way.

I usually don’t post comments, but today I do. I saw Ukrainian and Russian soldiers dying in war from the YouTube channels, the situation they were in is nothing short of living hell, for them the flight cabin is something they would dream to be in and won’t fight for silly things. I’m an independent that usually votes Democrat, but the border should be a nonpartisan issue.\n\nAmerica is not like Europe.
